Ratings from the 70's
NBC on the whole was a mess in the late 1970s and early 1980s. As we all know NBC didn't recover in primetime until The Cosby Show came along but it remained a mess in daytime despite supercouple Days, Santa Barbara Emmy run, Reilly Days.

Larry Hagman didn't look like a romantic leading man but he still got much younger (as in 20+ years) love interests.

You liked the era that resembled a modern day western as opposed to the era that was more corporate.

Knots Landing
Empire Valley started good in season 6 but became a mess in season 7. Season 5 Knots Landing got corporate with Lotus Point and action thriller/James Bond with Wolfbridge but those storylines worked as they gave us high emotional stakes character driven storytelling that impacted the whole canvas.

Y&R: Old Articles
I'd say one of the vixens, Jill or Lorie, or troublemaking promiscuous girl Nikki. Jill being all about the come up might not have been as drawn to a priest as he might have been to her. Lorie the daughter of the main upper class family adds the element of class differences. Nikki had already been involved with Paul but if she was drawn to his priest brother, Mary would not be having that.

I always had the feeling that Andrea Evans was considered a big get by CBS because of her popularity on One Life to Life. Maybe in 1983 to cash in on the miniseries? I wonder if Bill Bell used Andy to replace Steve in the brother-type role for Paul. Also in the Paul/Andy/Amy friend group were the Jackson brothers and later Nathan. Too bad that friend group got diminished when Ed Scott took over as EP (the Jackson brothers, Andy, Amy all left but Nathan remained and pretty much replaced Andy, and Lynne was brought on and pretty much replaced Amy.)

1979 was a turning point year in daytime: As the World Turns loses #1. Huge rise of ABC. Another World expands to 90 minutes. Love of Life new time slot which isolates it from the rest of the CBS soap line up and the show tanks.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
Beauty and the Beast was CBS new Friday 8 pm show in 1987/88, replacing Scarecrow and Mrs. King which was cancelled Spring 1987. Beauty and the Beast remained Friday 8 pm in 1988/89, but was moved to Wednesday 8 pm in 1989/90 in what would be its final season.

Dallas Discussion Thread
I suspect a face lift sometime in the early 1990s, between leaving Dallas and joining Melrose Place. Whatever Linda Gray has had done is not blatantly obvious and in your face, especially when compared to some of the other 1980s primetime soap actresses of her generation. I also think she has good health on her side, plus styling-wise she has always been up to date and age appropriate.

Watching the Dallas reunion videos from above. Linda Gray looks amazing and I cannot believe that she will be 83 in September. Joan Van Ark turned 80 on June 16. Holy difference in the looks.
