  1. The two biggest stunt castings in the peak years were Lana Turner and Gina Lollobrigida. There was still more story that could have been told with Jacqueline but Francesca was more plot device than fully developed character.
  2. So we could've gotten a Nathan/Amy/Dru triangle. The Barber sisters were another Bill Bell educated professional with a troublemaking sibling. He also dusted off the intros of the Reed sisters: new doctor in town that has a troublemaking younger sister.
  3. Katherine/Marge got JC her second Lead Actress Emmy nomination, but it was one of those second/third tier storylines that Bill Bell gave to the main females in 1989 that were not named Cricket or Cassandra. The Jackson brothers were gone in that cast purge during the EP change from H. Wesley Kenney to Ed Scott. Do you think there was storyline potential with them in the years before the arrivals of the Barber sisters and Winters brothers? I think Jazz could have been a restaurant/bar/nightclub owner and Tyrone could have been another lawyer in town besides Mitchell Sherman and Michael Crawford.
  4. In the main cast or the guest stars? I'm no expert, but is California wine country associated with vast wealth and jet setters?
  5. I didn't spot SF in the intro of the B&B contingent, but I think that's her at 1:19:32 and it sounds like her at 1:20:17.
  6. Whiteface Tyrone would not fly today and I don't know how Bill Bell got away with it. That storyline was part of the mob angle during the H. Wesley Kenney years. Action/adventure was the 1980s trend Y&R got wrong, those storylines didn't suit Y&R.
  7. Gina Lollobrigida was 57 in 1984 and she looked pretty good for her age. It was either good Italian genetics or good Italian doctors. Ratings for Gina Lollobrigida episodes and how they compared to the rest of the primetime soaps and 1984/85 two rookie hits. November 9, 1984: The Intruder, rating 21.1, 8th for the week. Finished ahead of Knots Landing (November 8: Ipso Facto, rating 19.4). Dallas (November 9: Homecoming, rating 26.2) was #1, Dynasty (November 7: The Verdict, rating 25.7) was 2nd, and The Cosby Show (November 8: Play it Again, Vanessa (episode 8 ), rating 21.2) was 7th. The Cosby Show was a repeat on November 29. No Murder, She Wrote on December 2. December 7, 1984: Going Once, Going Twice; rating 20.7, 12th for the week. Finished ahead of Knots Landing (December 6: We Come Together, rating 20.2). 8. Angelica Nero was literally straight out of a James Bond movie 🤣. Granted one that's not part of the official series, but that's neither here nor there for this thread.
  9. @Khan I spotted Jaime Lyn Bauer in a Season 10 episode. CBS had so much of their own daytime talent that could have worked on their primetime soaps when the primetime soaps were at the height of their popularity but for whatever reason they ended up casting mostly former ABC/NBC daytime actors.
  10. @yrfan1983 You're at the home stretch. Episode 12 is a game changer.
  11. Of the CBS primetime soaps, I think Knots Landing ended up casting the most former daytime stars as either part of the main cast or in short runs.
  12. Today (May 8 ) marks 10 years since Jeanne Cooper passed away. Y&R has not been the same without its grande dame. RIP.
  13. Baby Girl nation came through!
  14. The last 10 episodes of season 6 was to me the peak of Knots Landing and a highlight of those episodes was Ava Gardner's arc. Ratings for Ava Gardner episodes and how they compared to the rest of the primetime soaps and 1984/85 two rookie hits. February 28, 1985: The Deluge, rating 20.3, 13th for the week. 15. Yikes! The last time I looked through a SOD, the issue wasn't even 100 pages and the paper quality was flimsy. If we're keeping it real SOD hasn't really been relevant for the better part of the last 25 years. I'll forever maintain that the internet made the soap press obsolete.

  17. @Khan Welcome back 🤗 How would Josh Griffith explain Matt Clark being alive?
  18. Shemar knows his baby girls are calling him to come home to Y&R.
  19. Bill Bell wrote three real-life pregnancies into Y&R storylines: MTS twice and TB.
  20. Diva demands? Lana Turner arc on Falcon Crest was quite the contrast to Ava Gardner arc on Knots Landing. I posted some links in the Knots Landing thread about Ava's arc and it seemed she was well-liked by the cast plus she admitted to taking the part for money so really wasn't in a position to throw any diva demands. In between Lana and Ava there was Dorothy McGuire on Y&R and while I haven't come across many articles about Dorothy's arc on Y&R, I got the impression she was also well-liked by the cast members she interacted with.
  21. Episode 12 has a great scene that paves the way for some big events in season 2. Was it planned that
  22. 1997 SOD Awards. Y&R's best showing of the 1990s. Still no luck finding the Y&R wins from the 1989 SOD Awards, their best showing of the 1980s.
  23. Do not give Josh Griffith ideas.
  24. Nikki falls off the wagon then phones Katherine for support and recaps her past with Victor.
