Are there any actual fans of this Chancellor-Winters “business” story? It’s completely unwatchable. Not even having Jill and Mamie making appearances can save this story from being a sinking stinker. Amen!

Question about Monday’s episode, why was Abby dressed in an ugly green pantsuit straight out of 1987? 😅 I’m a few episodes behind due to work playing catch-up now but I will I think the most of the cast is doing their best with the lackluster material given. The whole Harrison kidnapping story should be a bit more riveting but JG’s writing is so low energy. Still I appreciate AL, MTS, AH, etc still trying to give it their best at it. LOL you beat me to the punch!

SFT/Y&R/SB/GH: RIP Meg Bennett
RIP indeed, very sad to see this. Another daytime name gone 😢 Was she still married to Guza? I was happy to see to her work and later guest appearances as Julia. I never heard much of her writing work outside of Bell allowing Bennett to do so and still appear as Julia at the same time.

BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
Given this announcement came out of nowhere (at least for me) I wouldn’t be surprised if she did or at least have some outlines. My second purely speculative uneducated guess would be maybe either February and/or first week of March 2025 (at least before March Madness)? Let TPIR reruns/extras warm the spot.

Melrose Place reboot in the works
Hahaha my first thoughts exactly Carl!!! That said, I’ll be watching if this comes to fruition! 😃 The total Dynasty reboot did well enough to get a following and last 5 seasons, I wonder why they aren’t trying to go that route instead of a continuation like the doomed 2009 series.

Despite the campiness of the three Ashleys ED continues to kill it along with the rest of the cast with the intervention of Ashley. Abbott drama > Newman drama BTW where is Abby in all of this? 😅 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Aww Audra in love 🥰 I like how despite telling Sally she feels like she’s losing control, she’s actually completely in control still lol. And unlike that 1:30PM soap, I like how Audra isn’t being shamed for turning down Tucker’s proposal. Meant to comment on some of yesterday’s stuff…Summer still isn’t wrong about her distrust of Claire. I liked Cole & Victoria revisited the Neil history but shame we can’t have flashbacks, but the kiss was a nice touch. Lily vs Daniel/Heather could be interesting if JG wasn’t writing it. Glad to hear this!

100% to all of this! The way Claire told Summer “she was better” wasn’t that person anymore reminded me of the days when Kevin was shoved down all throats and we were constantly reminded that he was a “good redeemed” person, not accountable for his past behavior 🤢🤮

Y&R April 2024 Discussion Thread
April 8th: Okay I didn’t notice they were using the term “40th anniversary” in onscreen dialogue until today….😂😂 Why not just say “date of our original anniversary” “big anniversary” or heck just say 50th anniversary as a nod to the 50th anniversary last year (and for the sake of some semblance of plausibility after all the SOARSing!) At classic Nikki drinking lol. Nikki had the chance to do the right thing and just tell Victor that she stopped and bought a bottle of booze. She is watched closely by the security team, so how in hell was she able to buy that bottle on the way home from Society? The bottle is small so she likely bought more than one. Then again, as previously mentioned Victor’s security team appears to be completely incompetent and inept. 🤣 Okay finally Chance & Summer getting actual romantic scenes and having natural conversations, something that has been lacking IMO for the pairing. The conversation about their kids was nice. And as I mentioned before I don’t think Summer should feel like a jerk not trusting Claire, it just makes her cautious and safeguarding herself from a potential threat, especially given all Summer seen and done herself and everything Claire has done too. The highlight of today was Audra and the cuckoo Ash personality. Kudos for ED and ZS playing the story as straight as possible, especially ZS expressing Audra’s horror as realIzing Ashley is off her rockers. I liked the younger Ash persona was disgusted by the martini, and ED is giving it all for this story especially with the facial expressions, letting us know by her look that Ashley had taken control back from Ash. The ending was pretty absurd and over the top Days style campy 🙈 Are we sure this isn’t some unused story JG had intended to write at Days when he was there.

One of AL’s strengths as Summer is her ability to actually be dynamic and three dimensional. And actually having Summer giving warmth but being cautious and confused is natural so it’s interesting but knowing the history of this show… Haha it’s funny in the last 2 years since AL took over Summer has become one of my favorite characters minus when JG unsuccessfully tried to regress her for storyline purposes. I’m glad AL is in the role these days because HK was nothing but a mopey wet rag who always whined and cried all the time.

Tank Jobs and Sabotage
That’s too bad because the original series with Rita Moreno along with Jean Marsh as the female antagonist was pretty good from later the reruns I watched. I think though there was already BTS issues between Jane Fonda and ABC about the show’s direction so Fonda quit and the show revamped, people didn’t like it and it collapsed. It later resurfaced in syndication with Sally Struthers taking over Rita Moreno’s role and ran a couple years that I watched but was just average compared to the original. Looking at ABC’s 1983-84 schedule I think this is where, as @kalbir has mentioned before, ABC’s mid-80’s mess era began. Sure Dynasty and Hote were hot, MNF and movies helped out, and shows like Benson, Webster and Fall Guy filled some gaps but the rest of the schedule wasn’t looking too hot at all.

The Originals and the Imitators
One of the oldest examples I immediately thought of was I Married Joan, NBC’s answer to I Love Lucy. While not as memorable as Lucy, and the opening line about Joan Davis being “America’s Queen of Comedy” suspect, I found the show to be good fun and several episodes are downright hilarious thanks to Joan Davis’ own slapstick abilities. Unfortunately I recall Davis had to quit due to poor health, and died a few years later. Her daughter, who played the sister on the show also died a few years later. Jim Backus, who played Davis’ husband later gained bigger fame as the Millionaire in Gilligan’s Island. In the early 90’s ABC and CBS tried hard to get their own Simpsons like shows going especially with CBS and Family Dog but the attempts were all DOA.

Murder, She Wrote
So true, I just watched three episodes in a row from 1994 last night after talking about this missing era and I definitely felt so engrossed and comforted by what I watched.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Thanks for the the tag and sharing @DRW50 this is an era of GL I know so murky about myself so it’s nice to see something like this surface from then. I reckon had GL continued to use the Selby Flats/LA setting we possibly would have seen a better diverse representation of LA that B&B has ever given us, at least depending who was in charge of the show that is.

Soaps that lost their original/core families
Thinking about it, it does fascinate me that ATWT somehow how managed to keep the Hughes and the Lowell/Stewart families as part of its core for its entire run. Same with B&B with the Forresters and Logans and Days with the Hortons. But that’s obviously not true for every soap. We all know AW lost the Matthews and later Frame clans by the shows end sans Josie to much negative impact, while Y&R got rid of the Brooks and Fosters sans Jill to surprisingly positive impact. What are some other examples of a whole core family eventually disappearing from a soap? I know Days wiped out the Andersons and forgettable families like the Scofields came and gone. B&B of course shamefully got rid of the Spectras.

Primetime Soaps
Multiple attempts for a soap set in Malibu ie 2000 Malibu Rd, Hotel Malibu, Malibu Shores etc occurred in the 90s but they all just failed to takeoff. I was thinking it sounded similar to Knots. Maybe it’s just me but I can’t picture Atherton as a leading man here, mainly because of his goofy/obnoxious villain roles in a lot of movies he did afterwards. The whole thing is up on YouTube, but like I said I couldn’t make it pass the ridiculous opening credits and song 😂
