Every soap has had its bad writing moments. As much as we hound we hound Thudley and Josh Griffith these days, nothing yet has been as bad as the Maryanne Caruthers storyline on GL, which upended 67 years of GL history for some very, very ridiculous mystery plot. January 5, 2004 was for me the darkest day in GL history.

LOL honestly the entire run of Sunset Beach is better than anything the other soaps gave us since 2004 🤣🤣

Haha it’s funny you mentioned Sheila avoiding Jack…it was awkward enough for Ashley and Jack to discuss “that strange stuff with Sheila Carter” when talking Lauren in 1993 but a throwback and realization the Abbott’s had just dealt with Lisa yet Lester’s Jack quipping he never wished to “see that pile of hair again” was too epic, considering Jack set that set of events in motion. I can only imagine the smarmy comments TL Jack would have had about Sheila 🤣 But I will definitely check that episode out… I remember the vivid shift of Sheila’s story the jacuzzi fight on B&B brought as it closed one chapter and opened up the second chapter brought. I don’t why the 1995-98 stuff got so ignored and retconned over the years.

@YRfan23 Thanks I found it! I had mentioned Blade/Mari Jo vibes earlier but honestly the scenes gave me Phyllis/Peter and/or Phyllis/Brian vibes instead. As in I could see Sheila is actually knocked up by John Silva and parading her son as being Scott’s son with no one the wiser that it is John Silvia’s. In a flip side comparison after rewatching in the vault too the initial Mari Jo introduction in April 1994 is a spooky and ominous one but the show lost focus on it.

Anyone or @YRfan23 recall the exact date of this? I wanted to see this again and thought I remembered but when looking in the vault it wasn’t the episode I thought it was.

LOL that was actually that was the 300th episode and I know what you mean. Hagman was 57 but looked a bit older, probably from all the hard and heavy drinking he was doing during the show’s run. Of course the styling during the later years of the show did no one any favors, especially for Duffy and Gray. Linda looked so much younger on Melrose a few years later than she did as Sue Ellen during the 88-89 season and her appearance in the finale, while Duffy looked refreshed by the time Step by Step premiered.

Yuck. Maybe with Kent now going to be around strictly at Y&R all the time Griffith will finally crack under pressure?

At @kalbir one of the final 1991 episodes of Dallas was titled “90265” as a reference to 90210 as well as being Malibu’s zip code when Bobby was searching for Susan Lucci’s character 🤣 My parents watched til the bitter end though as did I 🙃 I feel like the plot of the 1996 JR Returns movie would have sufficed for the series finale. I consider that movie to be the end of the show anyways and the 2012 series as non-canon 😏

Dallas ended 33 years ago today. I still find it dumb the producers actually thought there was going to be another season, just like what happened to their former colleague Paulsen at Dynasty just two years earlier, especially being like #58 in the ratings. At at least over at Falcon Crest (and later Knots) they saw the writing on the wall and wrapped everything up to a more or less a satisfying conclusion. I had some actual 91-‘92 season materialized it would have been about Michelle getting her revenge, maybe?

Indeed I was glad to see Lily get nasty with Heather as well hopefully we’ll see some more of this. Haha Lily snatching Billy away from whatever it is he has with Chelsea would be doing him a huge favor to avoid falling into the dark void of nothingness that is Chelsea. It seems to me the show is starting to revisit some pairings that actually worked. First we got Adam and Sally back together, then we’ve had MM Kyle and AL Summer sharing a lot of scenes lately, and now Billy and Lily again. Maybe Nate & Audra can be next?

Oh definitely agree about Lily with a vengeance, although I almost would have also like to see Lily not let go of Daniel that easily. CK and the Graz still had it after all these years. I laughed at her being uncharacteristically nasty to Mamie as well lol. This is a side of Lily we need to see more often haha. It seems now the show is poised to revisit Lily and Billy, bringing this whole C-W business full circle it appears. Here’s to hoping for a half-decent May sweeps. Things come in threes, Y&R got good news in March about the 4-year renewal, Steve Kent’s departure in April, so what’s in store for us in May? 😏

NOPE!!! Lol this after Abby finally meeting one of Ashley’s alters and looking at Ashley strange. As for who is in control of Chancellor-Winters….let May sleeps begin @Taoboi 😴😴😴 Abby also needs to stop rummaging through Stephanie Forrester’s pantsuit collection. 😂 Christopher Cousins’ creep psychiatrist reminds me of Michael Knight’s creep doctor character from several years back.

FINALLY that conversation between Michael and Lauren addresses the recent Sheila story developments on B&B. At least they didn’t mention toes 🤣

Now Thudley is probably hard work on his next catchphrase. If I had to take a wild guess, Steffy will buy her dear cousin The Vine a pair of dark sunglasses as a gift. These sunglasses make it pretty dark, so dark that the Vine accidentally hugs and kisses Finn at Il Giardino thinking the Finn is Liam. So all we’re hear about is “dark sunglasses” for weeks and months.

Lol Josh Griffith has had a pretty mixed bag on May Sweeps during this tenure, let’s review: May 2019: Mixed bag. Adam’s return started out promising but then we got some whip lash and the story was rushed with Adam getting shot so quickly. GT Phyllis’ downfall was insulting before her exit. May 2020: The best one, especially when that episode from 1981 aired. Oh wait 😉 May 2021: I have zero recollection of what May sweeps was for Y&R this year, probably that nonsense of Sally getting Summer her dream job but that being a very bad thing to do 🙄 God, 2021 was terrible. May 2022: Okay this wasn’t too bad as the show felt like it was trying something in a new direction . Diane was back, Ashland was his bad self, we had the Teriah wedding, Rey was dead, we had Imani inviting Nate to take a shower with her (in Elena’s fantasy unfortunately). But eventually JG became rudderless again. May 2023: Depressing as hell. Dead babies, dead cats, bombs strapped onto teenagers, Phyllis pretending to be dead. Obviously JG was going through something personal right as the writers strike began.

Well, knowing JG in charge, it’s definitely going to be:

RIP another daytime legend and Y&R icon gone, right after Meg Bennett’s passing. 💔 I so wish Y&R had brought back Dina wayyyy earlier than it did, and just not for weird stuff like Audrey North either. That’s such a legendary set of scenes to myself…BD getting announced she’s back as Jill, we get a hint that Mamie is in love with John, Jill actually standing up for Mamie in a rare moment, and the best moment being Dina just cooling telling a day drinking Jill reminds her of a “mutual friend” they have in common to Jill’s sheer horror and disgust.

My memory is fuzzy on the details…I tried to look back but came up with nothing it may not have been John after all. I did like John Silva with Jill although I had so wanted that Ryan/Jill one night stand earlier that year. Also at the time I didn’t realize it at the time but Jill shacking up with her lawyer is a bit of a rehash of Jill and Michael Crawford a decade beforehand. Maybe John Silva should have been tested with Nikki?

That’s interesting I vaguely recall watching that now a while back. A scrapped precursor to Blade and Mari Jo perhaps? Didn’t John Silva and Lynne go out on a date together in like 1998/1999 together or something or am I’m misremembering that?
