That would actually be a smart thing to do. They could say that David faked his death because he had gotten into trouble or something. It would be nice for David to finally meet his son. They could even bring back Scotty and have him finally meet his brother. I haven't seen any of Gregg Marx's work, but I'm sure he still has a lot of appeal

I think it was more their way of educating people about how anybody could get it, regardless of anything. On AW, they even had it written in that Dawn was a virgin.

That's what I've been saying. Paul/Will/Sonny would have been a fresh twist on a typical soap triangle. There could have been so many different dynamics to explore and it all would have been, for the most part, completely original. If I was writing and/or producing, I would've tried to get CS back the moment that I heard his series was being cancelled. The triangle still could have been playing out to this day.
