  1. Eden's rape is one of the most, if not THE most, disturbing soap storylines I've ever seen. But MW certainly rose to the challenge, and more than deserved the Emmy she won in 1989.
  2. Speaking of which, the lady who captions the reruns of TD said on FB that Ariane Munker filled in for Jennifer Houlton as Greta Powers in December 1973. AM did many soaps in the 70s and 80s...GL, ATWT, AW, RH. Her last soap role to date was in the early 90s, replacing Patsy Pease as Kimberly Brady on DAYS (under the name Ariana Chase).
  3. Speaking of Mark Valley, he is featured in the current FX series Feud: Bette & Joan. He plays Gary Merrill, the one-time husband of Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon). It's been nearly 20 (!!) years since he left DAYS. When the announcement was made in mid-1997 that he would be leaving the show, I didn't imagine he would have the career he has now. Mainstream audiences may not know his name, but they know his face and voice. My sister was so disappointed when he left DAYS (and the part was dreadfully and woefully miscast with Steve Wilder...what were they thinking???)...she had such a crush on him!
  4. Adam Storke's (Ryder) real-life mother, Angela Thornton, played a small but pivotal role on The Doctors in 1972 and 1973 as a psychiatric patient of Dr. John Morrison (Patrick Horgan). I'll try to get a screen cap of her up here. There is a definite resemblance between mother and son.
  5. Great actress but sorely miscast. Thankfully, she soon landed on DAYS as a new character and would be able to truly shine.
  6. Cliff has spent most of his time lately offscreen, so I'm surprised that they bothered to bring him back at all!
  7. Yes. David Elliott, the "current" Billy, joined the show in the summer of 1972 and stayed until 1977. Then he relocated to Hollywood, where he landed a role in Jaws 2.
  8. Those are great!! Thanks!!
  9. I didn’t even recognize him!
  10. Does anyone remember a character on LIAMST named Cathy Loomis? She was involved with Paul Michael Glaser's doctor character. Cathy was played by an actress who would play another Cathy on TD...Holly Peters.
  11. 20 years already? I was a junior in high school then. I feel old now. 😨😂
  12. According to Barbara Morgenroth, the final HW of The Doctors, soap newcomer Hillary Bailey (Smith) was cast as a nurse named Kit over three future movie stars in 1982...Holly Hunter, Ellen Barkin and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Ms. Morgenroth and her senior line producer wanted Holly Hunter for another role, but NBC decided they wanted a man to play the role. That man was Jamey Sheridan, later of L&O: CI fame. Ms. Morgenroth joined TD's FB fan group not long ago and revealed all of this.
  13. I can see why Mona became the show's main villainess for most of the rest of its run. Meg Mundy was the Bette Davis/Joan Crawford of TD. God bless her; she made it all the way to age 101. Barbara Morgenroth, the show's final HW, joined the show's fan group on Facebook and regaled us with all sorts of behind the scenes stories. She and her senior line producer fought NBC over their choice for the newly created role of a nurse named Kit - a newcomer named Hillary Bailey (later Smith). This fresh face beat out some future movie stars for the role - Holly Hunter, Ellen Barkin and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Kit was to have a brother and she started to mention him. They had already cast him but the show was cancelled before he could appear. The actor who was cast but never seen? Roscoe Born. Barbara Morgenroth later joined the writing team of OLTL and created the role of Mitch Laurence for Mr. Born. She also said they wanted to keep Alec Baldwin but NBC demanded that he be killed off - but he took it in stride. She's still surprised that he is now the darling of NBC, in 30 Rock, where it all began for him. I wrote to a slew of former TD actors during my absence from here, and these are the following who autographed the screencaps I sent - Anna Stuart (Toni), Eileen Kearney (Greta, 1970-71), Gracie Harrison (Greta, 1980-81), Lori-Nan Engler (Greta, 1981-82), Marc Alaimo (Frank, who haunted Maggie in 1971-72), Holly Peters (Nurse Cathy Ryker #3), Josef Sommer (Dave Davis, 1973), Jeramie Rain (Sam, the dippy redheaded desk nurse who was Richard Dreyfuss' first wife and the mother of his children), David Pendleton (Temp Hank Iverson, 1972) and Marie Thomas Foster (Lauri James). I will try to have them posted here one way or the other soon.
  14. Thanks! It's good to be back. I'm glad that I wrote to Sada Thompson before her passing. This was right after the first/second season DVD set had been released, and she wrote back saying how happy she was that the show was being enjoyed again. She and James Broderick were letter perfect as the heads of the Lawrence family. I wonder why Gary Frank never got more acting work after the show. Dinah Manoff was a guest star on the show at one point and acted with Kristy McNichol, a decade or so before being cast as sisters on "Empty Nest". I really wish Sony would sign over the rights to this show on Shout!, who are well-known for picking up shows on DVD whose season by season releases are stalled. Sony is one of the worst, if not THE worst, when it comes to consistently releasing seasons of shows on DVD in a timely manner,
  15. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Hopefully, Maeve is still out there singing "Danny Boy". 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
  16. Why can't Sony release the rest of the series on DVD by on demand? I'd love to see the rest of the series.
  17. David Pendleton (AMC, EDGE, OLTL) subbed for Palmer Deane as Dr. Hank Iverson on The Doctors in the summer of 1972 for two episodes. He did a fine job, and I would have liked to see him stick around - maybe as Hank's brother.
  18. TV One REALLY should do an Unsung Hollywood episode of this little soap that had such a short run. I've never seen any episodes, but the premise intrigues me - not to mention that many people who were or would become famous were on this show - Jim Reynolds, Kristoff St. John, Viveca Fox, Richard Roundtree, Kelly Rutherford, Jonelle Allen, and even Smokey Robinson (as an actual character, not as himself). I'm sure the cast and the behind-the-scenes folks would have plenty to say about not just what happened during the show's brief run, but long-term story ideas had they not been cancelled.
  19. It's good to be back!!!
  20. Here is Rita McLaughlin in a 1976 ad for Playtex. Not long after that, she met and wed Rev. Norman Walter. Marsha Clark (later of GL fame) was their witness, as they eloped. The ad is around the 4:15 mark:
  21. I agree with others who have said this show had one clunky title. It sounds like a self-help book by Dr. Ruth. LOL
  22. Donnie Melvin also played an orphan boy named Danny on The Doctors from 1967-68. Danny was eventually adopted by psychiatrist Dr. Bill Winters (James Noble, later of Benson fame) and his wife, Ruth (Ann Whiteside). Speaking of TD, Michael Kearney (who had also played Petey Dunbar on TSS) is the older brother of Eileen Kearney (the first regular actress to play Greta Powers) and Mark Kearney (who originated the role of Billy Allison Aldrich). Michael also played a couple of minor roles on TD himself.
  23. As far as I can remember, Loving/The City always aired here in Cleveland for its entire run. It aired at 12:30 pm, immediately after the local noon news.
  24. I have to agree with that! ☺
