  1. Happy 75th anniversary to Sunset Boulevard - one of the best screenplays ever written and Gloria Swanson delivers one of the best cinematic performances in history that didn’t win the Academy Award.
  2. Per Variety: Hulu App to Be Phased Out as Disney Is ‘Fully Integrating’ Service Into Disney+
  3. Sometimes you shouldn’t revisit things, and I honestly think this was one of those cases. Even in the original series, I was never convinced that MPK was nothing more than an overhyped buffoon. In fact, I think the best season were when Darren Star was still there (the first 3 seasons). The latter 3 seasons were a mess and lacked the zest of the initial seasons, IMO.
  4. Yes, I’m sorry you had to go through any grief @mikelyons - this is all supposed to be fun message board discussion fodder.
  5. If JFP is listed on official scripts as a producer for upcoming episodes then she’ll be credited on screen. I think they maybe wanted to keep her discreet until the cover was blown and now they have to credit her for the work she’s doing. @Errol - I know you had previously said it was a non-producing role so possible things changed or the show is just finally crediting for work she’s been doing for a while?
  6. It’s not that surprising if JFP is working in the booth - the directors direct in there and rely on the staff and supporting producers in the booth to facilitate much of that work.
  7. Yawn and a total waste. Leslie/Monica deserved better than a reconned relative played by a Friend of Frank.
  8. RIP, what an original and truly dedicated performer she always was (even when TBTB lost interest in Lisa). She’s simply unforgettable in the context of American daytime soap opera and I will always cherish my memories of watching her.
  9. I think I just chocked on my own vomit for being tagged with that pic @Soapsuds
  10. It’s really bad - he’s doing [bad] sketch comedy acting for what’s supposed to be serious and dramatic. He just doesn’t know any better. This is where an on-set acting coach really helps, which soaps probably can’t afford anymore. For example, Lisa Brown continued to be the acting coach for the younger actors on GL for years after she last played Nola.
  11. I don’t need a retconned relative for Monica to pop up. Who the hell cares and, sadly, what are they really going to write for an elderly woman anyway? They couldn’t even write for Monica for years, even when Leslie was capable and willing to work. We’re lucky we get as much of Jane Elliott as we do and she’s the one carrying the flame for the Quartermaine’s. Speaking of, I am sure these lazy and banal writers couldn’t resist putting Slezak’s character (whoever she ends up being) in some sort of convoluted rivalry or antagonistic dynamic with Tracy.
  12. That’s another studio in Culver City, CA. The official Sony Pictures Studio address is: 10202 West Washington Boulevard Culver City, CA 90232. It has a lot of room and is very state of the art. Tours are done for the public on that studio lot because it’s rich in history having been the former MGM lot where much of their classic library was also produced. Sony houses most of their TV production on that lot, so whenever Y&R’s TV City lease is up, they’ll probably want it housed there unless they want to pay to lease another space (Sony is notoriously cheap so I think their own lot would probably produce more efficiencies). But definitely a few years away to your point. It will likely be donated to some type of museum for preservation and to be viewed by the public. It obviously holds a lot of historical value and weight.
  13. My guess is Sony is in control of the Y&R move and they’ll want that show produced on their own studio lot, Sony Pictures Studios, in Culver City, CA (which is the former MGM studio lot where The Wizard of Oz and Gone With The Wind amongst many others in the classic MGM library were largely filmed). Both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, fellow Sony productions, have used studios on that lot since the 90’s.
  14. Funny thing is Beyonce is the real world celebrity that’s been most often mentioned in dialogue on this show. I’m just about waiting for an episode where some characters attend a tour stop on the Cowboy Carter tour.
  15. Where were all these outraged people when DAYS refused to write for SSH for years? It’s just an increasingly irrelevant piece of metal, folks. I’m glad she seems to be taking it in stride.
  16. These nominations are based on like one reel, not a body of work for the entire year. Because daytime soaps are on 5 days a week, the process doesn’t necessarily get to capture actors who consistently delivered the best performances day after day in that eligibility period. Those who got nominated had reels that worked in isolation for some reason, and yeah, probably friends in the industry as the actors help select and vote for their fellow actors.
  17. Jon Lindstrom is awful, not believable at all as a big bad gangster and has absolutely no chemistry with anyone. And sorry, I also have yet to see any improvement with Brandon Claybon. The way he recites lines and his movement choices feel very unnatural to me and as if he lacks confidence in what he’s doing. I about choked on my bottle of water when pushing 40 year old Samantha complained about missing out on a sleepover. This girl continues to be totally jarring. I think the lighting has also been adjusted. It’s a lot less bright and has a bit more depth.
  18. I don’t think Jen Jacob has the charisma or skill to succeed in this medium. I’ll happily eat crow if they turn her into a villainess and she succeeds, but I just don’t see it in her. Right now, she’s the equivalent of me staring into a white wall hoping it turns into something more interesting, but knowing she probably doesn’t have that capability.
  19. Laura is awful. It kinda makes me glad she’s basically been reduced to a B-tiered character and an afterthought, for the most part, these days. If being a Sonny apologist is all they care for her to do, then keep writing her as an irrelevant spare part. Even with Lulu back and Lucky’s recent botched return and exit, Laura has felt so irrelevant and inconsistent as a character for such a long time. I wonder if this is all by design by FV though.
  20. Peacock Bumps Off Murder, She Wrote
  21. I don' think this is 100% true - For example, I can watch multiple GL episodes from the 70's (the stuff written by the Dobson's at least) and feel some sort of stakes at various degrees with multiple stories running together. I do not get a similar feeling with BTG. BTG, by contrast, feel very muted. You can argue its faster paced than other soaps, but the payoff for a lot of key scenes and storylines feels rather lackluster. It feels very aimless at times. There is no fire to most of these stories that makes me feel like I need to watch every episode. As I said before, I want this show to succeed, but almost 6 months in, I do need them to analyze some things and pivot in new directions.
  22. It's coming up on 6 months, it's time for the show to reassess some things and pivot. If they can't admit that some things just aren't working, then they'll be following the other soaps and produce a show in denial. I am interested in seeing how this summer pans out. I do think they need to work on making sure the momentum is kept up and ensuring some of these stories have better and higher stakes. The story execution issues are what is really hampering my viewing experience with this show at the moment. It took a year for Generations to feel like it was going anywhere. That was because former AMC EP, Jorn Winther, came in and totally revitalized the show. There was some promise form the start, but Sally Sussman Morina (as proven multiple times) is just not a good/exciting writer. When Winther came in, suddenly the show had some fire, there was some recastings, and Sussman Morina was forced to up her game (as much as she could at least). NBC canceled the show just when it felt like things had started to really gel.
