Put out the "bat signal"! 😂🗣️ P&G doesn't seem to care about the show, but if more of these ATWT alum had their own YT channels, like Ms. Bruder, I doubt they'd be pulled down and the fans would really enjoy. The only question is whether it would be worth their time to upload, particularly if the episodes are not yet digitized. I doubt they'd have trouble finding volunteers to do it though. Some of these alums (who have depressing follower counts on Twitter) could really build their social media presence off the strength of that. Could you imagine? I mean, there are Y&R fans having livestreams of bootleg episodes...just imagine if a Melanie Smith hosted a livestream of one of her biggest episodes? That would be such fun! It'll never happen, but still fun to imagine.

Can Ms. Bruder Debrovnik upload some more episodes, please? I like when the actors upload episodes, especially when the show had compelling material. I wish more ATWT alums would upload episodes. I wonder how many have episodes in their personal collections?

Correction: I have read that DeJoy is being investigated by the Justice Department. I'm still trying to get used to having a Justice Department that is doing actual investigative work, rather than going after perceived "enemies" and carrying out grudges.

So, DeJoy is being investigated by the FBI? Why doesn't he just resign already? Hasn't the grift gave him enough cash already? I don't see how the Post Master General position could actually protect him from prosecution, he's not POTUS.

Really astute assertion. The movies did it too, during that time. A lot. I am never sure who was following whom, but clearly there was a huge market for it in the 1980s. You can also look at most 80s movies and see that same standard for the teen ingenue play out similarly. Even when you had the supposed outcast, a la Sixteen Candles, the viewer was always supposed to look at Molly Ringwald's character as if she were the ideal and everyone in the movie who disparaged her was just out of their minds. According to Hughes's POV (and the viewer, by proxy), Andy was the ideal and everyone else was just too stupid to regard her as such. Molly Ringwald and Jennifer Connelly personified the teen ingenue of the 80s. I also agree with your assertion of Phillip and I definitely believe that scrutiny of a girl/woman character was/is far more intense than the men. The list is long if things a male character can do/get away with that a woman character couldn't. This is probably the reason why so many women in soaps are reluctant to take on characterizations where they come out looking like the 'heavy' or the villain.

I also get the sense that Sinema just isn't that smart. In other words, a perfect fit for the current crop of GOP.

As someone else mentioned upthread, Phillip Chancellor (Thom Bierdz) was definitely supposed to be dead in a car crash (similar to his father before him) but was brought back with that ridiculous storyline, involving Cane years ago. FWIW, I highly doubt Bill Bell Sr. would have brought the character back had he still been around to write the show. I believe Phillip was likely supposed to stay dead, although one can never say never--plenty of headwriters end up breaking their own rules.

I was talking about soaps, in general. Dark Shadows was before my time but many people claim that to be the first storyline of that kind. There seemed to be quite a few in the 80s and 90s. It probably became a trope sometime around then. I wasn't speaking specifically about Y&R, which is why I said genre, but speaking of Y&R, wasn't Adam declared dead at least once?

When I mentioned laughing at some point, one of the moments that caused unintentional laughter was when one of the moderators asked Garcia why she quit in the middle of the pandemic and the look on Garcia's face. She collected herself to answer but she was so taken aback by the line of questioning and I have to say, the bluntness of the question caught me off-guard. Eric Adams was also a police officer, which may or may not be a liability in NYC. He did start talking about police brutality over 20 years ago, which didn't endear him to the PBA back then, so he founded an organization with other Black police officers that focused on community relations and anti-brutality/violence and now that NYC has had an uptick in some violent acts, he seems to be getting more attention recently. Ray McGuire seemed surprisingly unflappable and unrushed in his delivery of answers. Maya Wiley was often chided for going over her allotted time, but she did mostly get out there, what she wanted to say. It was kind of weird how Scott Stringer was answering other candidate"s questions, he really wanted to get his ideas out there, whether he had been asked or not.

Did anyone try to tune in to the NYC Democratic Primary debate for mayor? All I could do was laugh, what a clusterf*CK! 20 second soundbytes for critical questions. I wonder if people will notice that Andrew Yang only seems to be speaking in platitudes, nothing specific, very little that speaks to a personal investment in the city he wants to run. At the very least the majority of the candidates on the stage seem to have a stake (or at least express that they do) in the city.

Is this show still on the air? The only time it seems to trend is when someone gets fired.

A couple weeks ago, I was watching an episode with Andrew Kavovit and Ashley Crow and there was a scene where Barbara encouraged Paul to talk to Beatrice McKechnie to cheer her up since she knows how much Beatrice likes him and I could not help thinking what a relief they never brought Beatrice back in the show's final decade because surely some dimwit would have Paul sleeping with Beatrice.🙄 A reminder of how off the rails the show had gone.

Unfortunately, it seems like the fans, the Emmys were often too fixated on emotive OTT characterizations. Characters who had split and multiple personalities. The understated and the subtle never got the accolades. Byrne winning an Emmy probably meant more pressure from the execs to dig in even more with Lily. Kathryn Hays, despite being consistently excellent was consistently overlooked for her nuanced performances. In what direction do you think P&G would nudge characters to be written in? Also let's not pretend that there wasn't a fandom for Lily and Holden. Their fans were likely sending piles of letters to the studio wanting more of them. Do you actually believe that wouldn't influence P&G? Do you actually believe P&G left Maryland completely to his own devices? That's not how it works. That's not how any of it works.

With a genre known for claiming that a death didn't happen if there was no body (and sometimes even with one), I don't know how anyone can assume anything.

She's so entitled for no reason. Her disposition sucks. Kei desperately needed that win and I am glad that he got it. I'm still dubious about the Olympics but I think this puts him on the cusp of qualification.

I remember when a lot of soap fans that hated Sharon insisted that she and Victor had "consummated" the marriage by sleeping together, though it was never shown or discussed onscreen. I was like "Nope, didn't happen if it didn't show up onscreen"😂. Now unfortunately, it seems like most of the events take place offscreen on these soaps now. Interesting though, that Y&R wanted to court controversy with the storyline but also wanted an escape hatch by not showing a physical relationship between former father and daughter-in-law onscreen. They knew that garbage was bad.

I'd trade all of those listed above for a reboot of ADW tbh. It's easily the most relevant and impactful. Bryton expressed the hope that something could be done with Family Matters and from what I have read everyone else in the cast is also on board. I just don't think there are any takers, in terms of production and distribution outfits. When you look at budget for many of these shows, the shows with minority majority casts were always expected to do more with less. Living Single, a frontrunner and inspiration for Friends, had a much smaller budget, less promotion and smaller salaries despite having Kim Fields and Queen Latifah who were well-known entities by then. So, if the actors don't want to return because the "money's funny", then I don't blame them. They got screwed before, they're not up for that again. How Insecure ends will be even more of a litmus test, in terms of whether the industry really has evolved or not. I have to amend what I said about FM, there don't seem to be takers so far

Is she Hilary/Amanda's sister? I could see it of she were. I tried to watch about 20 minutes or so today and besides being bored, I can see what some of you who have been describing the dialogue as stilted really mean because the dialogue just lagged and I could see the actors trying to bring it to life.
