  1. From what it sounds like..the Sydney show has descended onto S4 NY (yet there were some funny scenes like Ramona interviewing assistants and luann trying to teach her daughter to drive)...and OC season 11 toxicity (maybe Kelly from OC should move to sydney...shed fit in perfectly) In order for a ftanchise to work especially a new one...you need to know and care for the cast members...and yes...they need to not interact as much at first until we know them first...then interact and see the conflicts arise. I rememebr heaes ago, they tried to do a real housewives of chixago...but Andy cohen said no one interesting was found. From what i recall...they auditioned groups of 5 or 6 close friends together. However, if i were casting for my home city...how to gwnerate organic conflict is to cast women from the city and the suburbs (there is a huge suburb vs city debate)...sort of how on NY...Alex living in brooklyn and trying to social climb was such an organic conflict.
  2. To be honest...Im glad he left GL. If he hadnt...we wouldnt have had the 4 muskateers, nor would we have had Billy/Vanessa..Alexandra, Fletcher, H.B, India, Harley, Frank, Nadine...and thats just off the top of my head. To me, Marland wasnt a great fit on GL. He was decent...but a lot of his stories the first year or so were due to the dobson material.
  3. To me..Lily was more mature and fiesty when she was married to Damian. They used to have great maritql fights...both were passionate and fiery together. When Lily was with Holden...she alwayd turned into a needy stepford wife. While Bryne didnt like the business/corporate vibe Lily got when HR was playing Lily...she actually was pretty good when playing business atories. Lily/Holden worked better in the 80s..and both characters outgrew each other...yet fans didnt outgrow them. Supercouples saved soaps in the 80s..yet are killing them one by one since the 2000s. Supercouples are in the mold of a romance novel...they ride off in the sunset....they arent meant to be sustained long term together for years and years.
  4. Phaedra is a lawyer so no surprise she gets away with her stunts. Porsha shouldve been fired a long time ago. She's a meaner version of gretchen of OC fame. I like that RHOBH is 'boring'. I like one franchise not to go too far into the gutter. Doritt needs to understand that not everyone is open and warm....some people are guarded and take time to warm to othersm. Erika has a strong friendship with Eileen..as well as one developing with Kyle. Im more like Erika....I dont call just anyone a friend...it takes time for me to develop a friendship...but once that friendship is developed...I cherish it. Dorit reminds me of someone i used to be friends eith...open and eager to call anyone a friend...yet easily gets their feelings hurt if the other person doesnt respond to them as quickly. Plus..Dorit is one of those types that is nice to your face yet talks smack about you to others when you arent around..same as with this previous friend of mine.
  5. I lived in chicago and it was on at the 11:30 am (central time) slot...and it beat young and the restless. In Chicago..ABC news and daytime ranked #1 with NBC a close 2nd...and CBS was in last...daytime that is. Growing up...none of my friends mothers watched CBS..it was either ABC or NBC. With regards to the show..Dinah lee was a fascinating character...there was just something rootable about her. She came on originally as a nanny with designs on Jack..and due to jessica collins...the character became more then just a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Plus, she and peluso's Ava made good buddies. The recast was a good actress..but she just wasnt Dinah Lee...and even the actress Elizabeth mitchell admitted she wasnt right for the part. I liked Peluso as Ava much better then Roya. Roya's take on Ava was too much like Erica Kane...and there is only one Erica..imho. I liked Trisha and was one of the few that bought her as a recast for Martha bryne on ATWT since Trisha in the 80s had the same function on this show that Martha Bryne's Lily had on ATWT. Its interesting to see how Lily progressed on ATWT because i think he would have tried something like that with Trisha. Stacey was the good girl that was always a loser in love...and she came across to me like a punching bag. I did like how her and Ava's history wasnt ignored...but brought up on occasion up to Stacey's murder in 1995. Was Jack and lily circa 1983 to 1984 a better pairing then him and Stacey down the line? Shame by 1986, Lorna didnt have much to do..at least in the few episodes ive seen.
  6. The only post Reva return story that wasnt too bad was the brief time she was married to Buzz and working in the diner. They both knew they were platonic with occasional rompa in the hay....but that was cut short to restart the Annie/josh/reva triangle. What was funny was that before annie went crazy...it wasnt all pro reva/josh. There was a 50/50 divide between the two couples...but sadly Annie going crazy to make reva the winner was the start of a trend of lipsided triangles where one was the clear victor. The show assumed the brief rise in ratinga in 1997 was due to Reva...it wasnt...it was the stoey and mostly Annie.
  7. I could see her more as a modern day Claudia...then either Amanda or fallon (katie cassidy). If she were to be cast..that is.
  8. RHONY needs a little housecleaning, or at least getting rid if carole and Sonja or ramona. I liked teresa's brief spinoff show better when she was in jail...and you saw her family.
  9. I think when the Justine story came out..it contradicted some of the backstory established. There was a confrontation between Spencer and Carl after Carl was revealed as Ryan's father where he said he was thankful that Ryan inherited his mothers goodness and none of carl's negative traits. Plus..the show tried to establish that Carl wad obsessed with Rachel for years due to her resembling Justine...when the truth was that Carl came to town because of Felicia and Donna....and had an axe to grind against Mac...nothing to do with Rachel. It was poorly planned..and resulted in ryan gettinf killed...and Vicky eventually reuniting with her sisters rapist Jake. 1995 to 1999 werw horrible years with some redeeming elements.
  10. And priginally alexis was going to be a more subdued passive aggressive villiamess...but Joan Collins pushed for her to be the female JR Ewing.
  11. I figure 1969 was just when the alice/Steve/rachel story was at its peak...and maybe the awards were for the year before...when that particular story was gaining momentum.
  12. So I get that the network mandated that Ryan and Greenlee were to be a couple...but it takes a talented writer to make that mandate make sense. I think of all the headwriters that were forced to follow that mandate...Lorrain Broderick did the best job with writing to that. All other writers wrote it as if the two were destined to be together...but lorraine wrote the coupling in a way that made sense. To show that they both had lost a spouse (the loves of their life) and that they each knew ehat the other was feeling. And having both Gillian and Leo return for brief cameos...and seeing how much Ryan and greenlee missed them really drove that point across. This is the best example of how to make a mandate from the network make sense...imho
  13. Grant Show is perfect...masculine, still sexy, and can be both nice yet sinister.
  14. Been watching the early episodes (when Roy Winsor was still story consultant)..and I like that its a traditional soap...with some christian overtures...which I hear became more then overtures as the show continued. Whats interesting is an article from 1984 announcing the show being cancelled..with the reason being low ratings and a lack of advertising revenue. Also, the reason for this was due to a huge drop in stations carrying the show...hence the drop in ratings and revenue. Guess even cable soaps/shows had affialiate issues as well. It also shows that the 80s killed more soaps not due to people being disinterested...but cause of a lack of access to the shows. http://www.nytimes.com/1984/08/23/arts/christian-broadcast-network-cancels-its-cable-soap-opera.html
  15. Reva from 1983 to 1985...and 1989 through 1990 were her best years...when she wasnt being shoved down everyones throats. She was fromt burning...yet other characters had a chance to shine. I liked the Bridget/julie/kat trio of the early 90s. It was the last time the show truly had younger characters with decent talent (outside the brief time Joie Lenz played Michelle).
  16. Didnt the hughes set stop being shown once the show moved studios? I know the kitchen was shown for awhile...but I missed the living room/entry way. Of all the sets to aurvive to the end...the Snyder set was an eye sore and should have been trashed.
  17. I do agree Kim and Brandi were kept on longer then they should of...but theyre gone now (at least Brandi is)..with Kim only back for guest appearances. Carleton was too toxic and Joyce was too intelligent and normal (by housewife standards) for the show. Though I would have had Carleton on the OC just to see how vicki and tamra wpuld have reacted to her especially seeing Vicki go all spastic. I recall once when ramona was a guest on bethannys talk show..Ramona described Carleton as the scaryblady who cast spells on people so i think Ramona reacting to carleton would have been funny lol
  18. Production needs to stop scripting....this LVP and Erika both being on dancing with the stars could be a fun back and forth. Erika is snarky and season 6 proved that they were able to banter. Erika seems like someone that doesnt care about petty stuff...or as much as anyone else. You could see how much she didnt care about Dorit and pantygate. Eileen...im cutting some slack to because of being in grief. I think cause ive been in grief for about a yeae...sometimes you shut down, come across as cold...but some people dont like expressing grief with tears. I do think her beef with lVP was due to grief..imho. BH knows when to cut loose those toxic people eventually...unlike OC and NJ
  19. LVP should take the high road...but at the same time, Rinna did do a number on her last season...so I cant blame her for feeling a little vindicated that Rinna is looking like a liar. Can rinna vs Kim be put to bed already? Eileen's expressions were a high light..and you could tell even in her talking heads that she was struggling to put a positive spin to Rinna lol Some people on Twitter are saying this season of BH is boring...but I disagree. Its finally gotten the balance between the old and current version down at least in the 1st part of the season...then thr second half of the season becomes too much about feuds/storylines with little focus on their indivisual day to day activities. Im hoping when season 8 films..that it falls during Erika's Dancing with the star stint...especially with LVP being on there before..could be fun to see how Erika does....and flashbacks to when LVP did it before...with some British shade from LVP especially of Erika does better then her lol
  20. Watching season 1 and surprised at different the show is. It really is like the Waltons, but with vineyards. I laugh that the late Earl hamner sidnt want the show to turn into another Dallas..yet is does just that in the 2nd season. Seeing the first few episodes, im not thinking Julia's change into a psycho makes perfect sense. The foundation was being laid out.
  21. Amanda was an underwritten character, which was proven once Oxenberg was fired and recast with that horrid recast. In essence, Oxenberg has a certain charisma then helped make Amanda more then what the writers provided. Dynasty, Falcoln Crest, and Dallas pretty much ended in the 80s even though two of them lasted into 1990 and 1991. Knots Landing made a pretty good transition into the 90s..and had the budget not gotten slashed so badly...the show could have had a 15th season (since CBS wanted to renew it). The 90s was back to the basics..hence why KL did well in the early 90s
  22. Marland was good with plot and community...but a lot of his characters were dull. His ATWT was decent, but kind of boring.
  23. Ugh at kelly...guess OC is the show with the trashy housewives. I guess Erika has sealed her pitch for material for season 8 of the housewife show...since BH usually films in the summer/early fall.
  24. The only time Bliss had any sort of putpose was when she sided eith her mother over her father..and was cold and bitchy to her future step mother Frankie. She could have been the free spirit..anti money and more a free spirited hippie that shunned all that the Colby family offered.
  25. The problem with all the franchises is this need for a storyline. This is why reality shows have become so scripted..because real life isnt a storyline..its about vignettes..or one off scenes that dont lead anywhere. With that said, BH needs women with interesting lives.
