Whether Colleen is right or not and of course I hope she's not, I don't think anybody is delusional to think we're going to see these soaps via streaming, dvd or reboots. We've heard of multiple people trying to license them and they refused. Hell, John James recently revealed he tried to license ATWT presumably for a reboot with his friend Chris Goutman. They turned him down and they turned RetroTV down, which wanted to add the P&G soaps to their streaming service with The Doctors. That is what I'm most sad about. Can you imagine how cool that would've been? I also think the app would've exploded with success potentially having so many soaps on it. If long forgotten The Doctors is doing well, adding more recognizable soaps like ATWT, GL and AW would've definitely been a draw for them.

Beverly Hills, 90210 Discussion Thread
@VeeThank you for that backstory on season 8! I don't think it's good after about 10 episodes, but it's certainly better than season 7. I feel like I'm enjoying how they set up the post college life. I like the variety of the types of jobs everybody got and that they didn't act like these were all broke kids, considering it is Beverly Hills. I still think the show is boring, but it's watchable. I do think they could've benefitted from bringing Andrea back who could've filled a similar role to Carly, but with more connections to the cast. But I do enjoy Carly. I also like Noah, although he is a complete Dylan copy as the season has progressed. I can't wait to see him once Dylan returns. The biggest problems for me right now are Donna and Kelly. Kelly has kinda been going through the motions for a couple years and they don't seem to know what to do with her. She's stuck with Brandon, but they're boring together. Then with Donna, I just don't know that she is believable as the heroine everybody wants. She worked better as the good girl and comic relief who is the moral compass of the group. Making her the lead heroine/damsel in distress is out of Tori Spelling's range.

Return to Eden
I just bought the dvd set which was around $20 and this is fabulous! I know the article above mention not having a budget that can compete with Dynasty, but the show looks just fine. I’ve watched the mini series and first episode of the series and it made the transition well. I was surprised at how quickly I got into it. It’s very Dynasty inspired which I’d heard. I do wish they could’ve gotten another couple years out of it though.

Thank you! I’ve never heard of this one!

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I feel like Marlo is doing too much, but without Marlo you wouldn't have a season. I feel like all six wives are good, but they have a serious chemistry problem. Something is missing. Kandi, Drew and Marlo are the only ones I feel are giving a well rounded story, as well as drama. Kenya's personal story doesn't exist so she depends on people like Marlo making trouble with her so she has something to do. Sanya is still new and struggling to find her footing and Sheree also has no personal storyline and limited drama. Sheree should've been developing She By Sheree the entire season. I feel like theres hope, but next season they need something to tie it together.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES Moves to Peacock From NBC on September 12
Would their episode counts be much different? RIght now the #1 actor for the year has 60 episodes out of 134 that have aired. As for the headwriter situation, I would be fine with giving Giddeons and Quan a go. I still don't understand how Jamey gets so much blame when Ron is the Headwriter and is doing the exact same things he did at GH and OLTL. He's not in a position to create the problems the show currently has. I base being okay with him as headwriter on Ambitions, which *was* good. It was a traditional soap, but modernized and all of the stories worked. I do think the show had some casting issues (Robin Givens being the worst), but the writing was good. I remember Susan Dansby tweeting certain story developments came from her, so I wouldn't mind him bringing her with him. The team of Jamey, Michele Val Jean and Susan Dansby was very strong on Ambitions. People hate him so they'll say anything, but those two ladies also had EP credit and were a key part of developing that series as well and their credentials are strong.

The guy who runs the Pop network has mentioned trying to buy it too and we know RetroTV tried to license the shows as well, but that didn't happen. Even if it was as simple as wanting to have ownership of the titles to do reboots/remakes, you can't convince me someone would've bought them, which is why this is so frustrating.

Y&R: Old Articles
Peacock has a cool "Collections" feature for things like WWE and Dateline with thousands of episodes. They could do something like that. Best Of: Decades, Best Weddings, Best Catfights, etc., but I wouldn't count out full episodes in order either. B&B, The Doctors and Dark Shadows have shown people are willing to watch that as well. I know I'm late, but I'm devastated by the news Colleen shared. That is an evil, spiteful move. As many have said, this material could've been donated or cheaply sold to another company if they just wanted it off their hands. We know many people wanted to buy or license their collection out. Why just throw it out? That's literally history.

General Hospital: August 2022 Discussion Thread
It's sad that the fans and Digest did more to celebrate her milestone than the show. She's barely been appearing and she's a supporting character in her own story. It's insane. I wish we knew the full story. Her popularity cannot be denied, she's still young and gorgeous, she's a strong actress with range and she's connected to everybody. Writing story for her should be easy, but they refuse to do it. It's so odd that she only seems to be employed because they can't deal with the fallout of firing her.

Y&R: Former OLTL actor joins the show
I wouldn't mind him being a Dylan recast. Yes Paul is off screen, but Nikki is around and they could reunite him with Sharon. Additionally, you could always bring back Heather if you wanted more of a connection for him and Christine is here and there.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES Moves to Peacock From NBC on September 12
I have mixed feelings about how I think this will work out, but I'm glad they made the jump so we don't have to keep wondering when the axe will strike. We knew it was going to happen sooner or later, so at least they're attempting something before outright canceling the show. Now on one hand I DO think there is a chance Days can extend it's life with this move. Peacock is a new service and as the initial article said, they've struggled with subscriptions when their very few hit shows end. Having something that airs year round could be helpful to them. If they can get the budget where it makes sense for them, they can make this work. Does anybody happen to know Days' yearly budget? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's similar to what they (and other streamers) pay for an 8 episode limited series. Another interesting element is the potential for past episodes. Whether it be full years, Best Of's or whatever, I think that's going to be valuable to the future of the show as well. Look how successful Dark Shadows is on streaming and The Doctors has clearly done well enough that the company is still investing in the show, improving the app and attempting to aquire other soaps. B&B is also averaging around 10,000 hits per episode on YouTube. All this goes to show that there is value in old episoes. Now long term I do think Days is going to have to drastically improve it's writing to last on a streaming service. I'm sure they'll get a variety of ages to subscribe, but it's going to lean Under 40, so they have to modernize the storytelling a bit. I feel for them if the rest of the year is as rough as it has been. Before they get back into production they need to plan a big relaunch an refresh in terms of story.

Will you pay $1.99 for Peacock? Update!!! Blockbuster sale!!! Peacock at just $1.99 a month!!
I've been subscribed to Peacock from day one just because I wanted to watch Days commercial free. Then I noticed their original programming is really strong so I've stuck around. I actually haven't watched Days in a few months, but I'm hopeful they do add classic episodes

Knots Landing
Knots was always able to go with the times and I'm sure if they had the money they could've kept the show interesting and the ratings good enough to sustain itself. I mean look at how many similar shows the network tried to launch once Knots went off the air. The cul-de-sac and Sumner Group made it easy to bring in new characters. As long as they had Karen, Mack, Gary and Greg around they would've been fine.

Beverly Hills, 90210 Discussion Thread
The college years had her out here BAD! Just one nightmare of a hairstyle after another. I'm happy to report she looks absolutely beautiful with the longer red hair in season 8. In fact, season 8 is a drastic improvement over the previous season. It helps that there was really no storyline in season 7, so they could easily start fresh. I'm three episodes in and Noah is a great new addition and Hilary Swank's Carly isn't bad. I appreciate that they didn't try and do Clare Jr. like they did with the Andrea clones for Brandon. She has decent chemistry with Steve so I can't complain. Getting out of college really has helped the characters. They had just outgrown those type of storylines, so it's nice to see them working and trying to figure out the next step of their life. The group also seems more connected this season and not separated off into their own stories. You have Noah interacting with Valerie, then he switches over to Kelly and Brandon. Then you have Valerie all over the canvas with Steve, then Noah, Kelly and even Donna who she rarely interacted with. Brandon is also more likable with everything not going perfectly for him out of the gate. I hope they can keep it up as we lead into season 9. So far it's seeming like a successful soft reboot.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
She's been so picky with what projects she takes and this is what she picked? I mean, good for her, but I wish it was something I had interest in watching. Her rumored return is said to already be wrapped up. I think it would just be a quick in and out thing.

@TaoboiI got to enjoy the early years with original music on SOAPnet, but the dvds aren’t horrible. They keep most of the music performances on in at least. Btw, I just realized season 7 is one of the Jason Priestley EP seasons because that’s when he turned down Spice Girls for The Cardigans because he didn’t think people would remember the Spice Girls lol. Im going to post season 8 thoughts. I feel it can’t be any worse and I’m at least ready for something different with them being out of college. I’m also glad my girl Donna got out of that short blonde hair phase. That look did not suit her at all.

Beverly Hills, 90210 Discussion Thread
I just finished season 7, which was a struggle and unfortunately I hear season 8 isn;t much better. When I originally watched the show it was when season 9 and 10 were airing originally, so that is the first version of the show I know. Then through reruns I've seen the first 6 seasons many times, but never watched 7 or 8 and haven't seen the last two seasons since they originally aired. I regret being so hard on season 6 because in retrospect it wasn't bad. All of the new characters worked and the storylines were over the top, but at least kept you interested. In season 7 there is a lack of energy and direction and it seems like the show doesn't know what it wants to be. I wonder if this is when Jason Priestley took over as EP. The biggest problem with the season is that none of the new characters work. Brandon is given another season long love interest who is another play on the Andrea/Susan type, but this one has no personality and they don't really develop a purpose for her beyond Brandon having someone on his arm. Donna and Kelly similarly had dead end love interests that went nowhere. There are hints of interesting story for Val involving her past and her parents, but it doesn't really go anywhere. Clare and Steve are the C-tier comedic relief, only used for support to the main characters. Their biggest story was their parents becoming a couple, but that also went nowhere. I notice this season tried to scale back the Melrose Place soapiness, but it just became dreary and dull. It feels like they were beyond the college days and any scenes involving that felt tired. There was an influx of self contained episodes, which felt weird considering the show had become a full on soap. The only things that showed potential were Kelly's new sister Joy, who of course was never seen after season 7. She would've been a good replacement for Clare. I also liked that we got some focus on Donna and Kelly's parents, but again, it's not enough to truly get invested in. I know Hilary Swank was not well liked on the show, but I'm hopeful that season 8 is an improvement over this. I hope that there are more long term stories and maybe being out of college will inspire them to do something fresh with these characters.

Knots Landing
I got to see Nope yesterday and Donna did have a fun little part and she looked great! Jordan Peele's movies don't feature many speaking parts, but you can tell great care is given to each actor cast so your attention is grabbed during each scene. At first I didn't understand the purpose of her scene, but as the film goes on it made perfect sense.

Knots Landing
After my recent rewatch, I have a newfound respect for Kristian’s work on Falcon Crest, but Peter’s character on Knots was a dud. I do think there was potential there though. They could’ve moved him from Paige to Olivia instead of Harold. I also liked how they included Michael. I feel like they could’ve built up a spin off but there wasn’t enough room for all those young characters on Knots.

Knots Landing
There was a season where Paige, Michael and Peter Reckell's character went to Mexico and it was meant to lead to a summer spin-off starring those characters. The spin-off was canceled so they wrapped the story up on the main show.

Knots Landing
As important as Devane was, I think the show could've continued had he left. I could see Nicollette wanting to bolt as well and the story was definitely set up in a way where that would make sense. The one thing I do hate is that due to JVA's early exit, a very interesting story with Val and Sumner was ended too soon. The few scenes we got between them (which was incredibly rare) were among the best in the series history. Had she stayed that story could've gone so many places, even potentially a romantic angle. They reminded me of how Val would've interacted with JR at that point in her life, without all of the hatred of course.

Knots Landing
I just read what you posted and I don't think that is a far out idea at all. I was confused when the show came back and didn't take advantage of the current climate crisis considering they were in the oil business. The problem with Dallas as opposed to Knots is that the show just didn't know how to move with the times. As long as JR was there, they felt it was enough. The family and the stories never grew or evolved, it was just the same stuff in a repetitive cycle. That's why with Knots I give them props, even when their changes didn't work. At least they tried and were mostly successful. When I recently did a re-watch, I was stunned at how strong that post shutdown season 13 through the finale run was. Even with losing Joan Van Ark! They kept trying until the very end and if money weren't an issue, it would've been a show like Grey's Anatomy that went for 20+ years.
