  1. I've been rewatching my James Stenbeck story DVD set and it's crazy to see how important Dee and Annie Stewart were and they just seemed to disappear. Emily and later Alison and Katie were our new Stewart girls, but I do think the show would've benefitted from trying to bring one of those characters back in the 90s.
  2. The way Ken Corday puts things is off putting, but I don't see a problem with him saying this isn't your mothers Days of Our Lives. ALL of these soaps need to evolve the storytelling. These soaps are most chaste than what we got in the 80s and 90s. Primetime, cable and streaming are giving us cutting age modern stories and these soaps are still giving us this dated mess we've seen time and time again, which is why the show is in the shape it is now. The troubling part of his interview is that he said we have to wait until February to see changes. The show is in AWFUL shape right now and has lost some key cast members. This isn't a good time to convince people to switch and PAY to watch the show. They're at a disadvantage because even if they revamp things in February, they're already so far into the season that it may not help in terms of a renewal on Peacock. They're going to have to really promote that time and hope the writers are up to the job. That is what's going to determine the long term future on Peacock.
  3. Based on the AOL streaming, I would guess Edge of Night and maybe they consider Texas an extension of AW. Very irritating to hear 5 different streaming services were interested and they turned them down. P&G is really our only hope since Disney is obviously not going to let anybody touch their soaps.
  4. I actually felt like Gabrielle looked fine in season 5. I loved that they finally integrated her into the girls group and she fit right in with Kelly and Donna. I don't think she looked or felt old and she handled the soapier drama well. Of course I think they dumped her due to her age, but I think it was more being ageist as opposed to it really being a thing.
  5. So wild hearing Roger say they were ready for monthly releases. It does seem like the rug was pulled from under them. They seemed to think everything was going well and for a while it seemed that way, but as always with soaps, something had to go wrong. The RetroTV thing really drives me crazy. Soap fans are the only group that don't have a streaming service devoted to them. You have stuff for game shows, wrestling, British tv, sitcoms, etc., but not soaps. Imagine how excited the community would be if that app had multiple soaps on it. I hope that even though P&G turned them down that they can find another company willing to license soaps to them.
  6. I have become so obsessed that I am falling behind on all of my other shows. I'm deep in 1990 (around the time of Sally/Clarke's wedding) and this year has been nonstop! I feel like the show has been good from the beginning, but lots of growing pains/slow periods, but it was good solid setup. Now it seems we're getting all of those payoffs. The storylines are being spread out amongst the cast, the supporting characters are good, we have comedy elements with Saul and Darla who are excellent and Sally has been a brilliant find. Watching these old episodes, it makes me sad they don't commit to a Darla/Saul and a character like Sally. Another thing that has surprised me is how much I'm enjoying the new Thorne. As a child I didn't care for him or Macy, but I think he's better than the original, has chemistry with everyone and the character feels more important with him in the role. I also liked how they handled the triangle with Donna and Macy, which felt more mature than Brooke/Ridge/Caroline. Up until now I don't feel they've used Stephanie to the best of their ability, but this year she is brilliant. I'm glad we're seeing her in a story as opposed to supporting her childrens storylines. This rivalry with Brooke is insanely good and their chemistry is undeniable. She also has great chemistry with Sally. As for new characters, I'm enjoying nuStorm, Felicia is fantastic and I can't believe she didn't last longer and Jake is showing potential. The one thing I don't like is how they swapped Kristen for Felicia. I feel like there was potential to keep her around and do a triangle with Storm.
  7. Why do you think Rena is out? I thought they were going with Quarter. As for Sheila, this story is just so insane. They took Sheila too far to where she needs to be written off. I don’t know how they’ll work their way out of it, if they keep her.
  8. There were quiet rumors for months that she was leaving the show. I don't think the show is invested in her and surely nobody expected her Emmy win. I hope she leaves and finds something better.
  9. Whether Colleen is right or not and of course I hope she's not, I don't think anybody is delusional to think we're going to see these soaps via streaming, dvd or reboots. We've heard of multiple people trying to license them and they refused. Hell, John James recently revealed he tried to license ATWT presumably for a reboot with his friend Chris Goutman. They turned him down and they turned RetroTV down, which wanted to add the P&G soaps to their streaming service with The Doctors. That is what I'm most sad about. Can you imagine how cool that would've been? I also think the app would've exploded with success potentially having so many soaps on it. If long forgotten The Doctors is doing well, adding more recognizable soaps like ATWT, GL and AW would've definitely been a draw for them.
  10. @VeeThank you for that backstory on season 8! I don't think it's good after about 10 episodes, but it's certainly better than season 7. I feel like I'm enjoying how they set up the post college life. I like the variety of the types of jobs everybody got and that they didn't act like these were all broke kids, considering it is Beverly Hills. I still think the show is boring, but it's watchable. I do think they could've benefitted from bringing Andrea back who could've filled a similar role to Carly, but with more connections to the cast. But I do enjoy Carly. I also like Noah, although he is a complete Dylan copy as the season has progressed. I can't wait to see him once Dylan returns. The biggest problems for me right now are Donna and Kelly. Kelly has kinda been going through the motions for a couple years and they don't seem to know what to do with her. She's stuck with Brandon, but they're boring together. Then with Donna, I just don't know that she is believable as the heroine everybody wants. She worked better as the good girl and comic relief who is the moral compass of the group. Making her the lead heroine/damsel in distress is out of Tori Spelling's range.
  11. I just bought the dvd set which was around $20 and this is fabulous! I know the article above mention not having a budget that can compete with Dynasty, but the show looks just fine. I’ve watched the mini series and first episode of the series and it made the transition well. I was surprised at how quickly I got into it. It’s very Dynasty inspired which I’d heard. I do wish they could’ve gotten another couple years out of it though.
  12. Thank you! I’ve never heard of this one!
  13. I feel like Marlo is doing too much, but without Marlo you wouldn't have a season. I feel like all six wives are good, but they have a serious chemistry problem. Something is missing. Kandi, Drew and Marlo are the only ones I feel are giving a well rounded story, as well as drama. Kenya's personal story doesn't exist so she depends on people like Marlo making trouble with her so she has something to do. Sanya is still new and struggling to find her footing and Sheree also has no personal storyline and limited drama. Sheree should've been developing She By Sheree the entire season. I feel like theres hope, but next season they need something to tie it together.
  14. I don't think anybody wants it to be true, but I feel like Colleen wouldn't have said it without knowing something. I take the whole wiping to suggest they just threw it away, not necessarily that they wiped each tape. Hopefully it's not true, but we have no way of really knowing.
  15. Actually, a couple years ago there was talk of them doing a streaming platform, but it wouldn't have included the soap stuff.
  16. Would their episode counts be much different? RIght now the #1 actor for the year has 60 episodes out of 134 that have aired. As for the headwriter situation, I would be fine with giving Giddeons and Quan a go. I still don't understand how Jamey gets so much blame when Ron is the Headwriter and is doing the exact same things he did at GH and OLTL. He's not in a position to create the problems the show currently has. I base being okay with him as headwriter on Ambitions, which *was* good. It was a traditional soap, but modernized and all of the stories worked. I do think the show had some casting issues (Robin Givens being the worst), but the writing was good. I remember Susan Dansby tweeting certain story developments came from her, so I wouldn't mind him bringing her with him. The team of Jamey, Michele Val Jean and Susan Dansby was very strong on Ambitions. People hate him so they'll say anything, but those two ladies also had EP credit and were a key part of developing that series as well and their credentials are strong.
  17. The guy who runs the Pop network has mentioned trying to buy it too and we know RetroTV tried to license the shows as well, but that didn't happen. Even if it was as simple as wanting to have ownership of the titles to do reboots/remakes, you can't convince me someone would've bought them, which is why this is so frustrating.
  18. Peacock has a cool "Collections" feature for things like WWE and Dateline with thousands of episodes. They could do something like that. Best Of: Decades, Best Weddings, Best Catfights, etc., but I wouldn't count out full episodes in order either. B&B, The Doctors and Dark Shadows have shown people are willing to watch that as well. 19. I know I'm late, but I'm devastated by the news Colleen shared. That is an evil, spiteful move. As many have said, this material could've been donated or cheaply sold to another company if they just wanted it off their hands. We know many people wanted to buy or license their collection out. Why just throw it out? That's literally history.
  20. It's sad that the fans and Digest did more to celebrate her milestone than the show. She's barely been appearing and she's a supporting character in her own story. It's insane. I wish we knew the full story. Her popularity cannot be denied, she's still young and gorgeous, she's a strong actress with range and she's connected to everybody. Writing story for her should be easy, but they refuse to do it. It's so odd that she only seems to be employed because they can't deal with the fallout of firing her.
  21. I wouldn't mind him being a Dylan recast. Yes Paul is off screen, but Nikki is around and they could reunite him with Sharon. Additionally, you could always bring back Heather if you wanted more of a connection for him and Christine is here and there.
  22. I have mixed feelings about how I think this will work out, but I'm glad they made the jump so we don't have to keep wondering when the axe will strike. We knew it was going to happen sooner or later, so at least they're attempting something before outright canceling the show. Now on one hand I DO think there is a chance Days can extend it's life with this move. Peacock is a new service and as the initial article said, they've struggled with subscriptions when their very few hit shows end. Having something that airs year round could be helpful to them. If they can get the budget where it makes sense for them, they can make this work. Does anybody happen to know Days' yearly budget? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it's similar to what they (and other streamers) pay for an 8 episode limited series. Another interesting element is the potential for past episodes. Whether it be full years, Best Of's or whatever, I think that's going to be valuable to the future of the show as well. Look how successful Dark Shadows is on streaming and The Doctors has clearly done well enough that the company is still investing in the show, improving the app and attempting to aquire other soaps. B&B is also averaging around 10,000 hits per episode on YouTube. All this goes to show that there is value in old episoes. Now long term I do think Days is going to have to drastically improve it's writing to last on a streaming service. I'm sure they'll get a variety of ages to subscribe, but it's going to lean Under 40, so they have to modernize the storytelling a bit. I feel for them if the rest of the year is as rough as it has been. Before they get back into production they need to plan a big relaunch an refresh in terms of story.
  23. I've been subscribed to Peacock from day one just because I wanted to watch Days commercial free. Then I noticed their original programming is really strong so I've stuck around. I actually haven't watched Days in a few months, but I'm hopeful they do add classic episodes
  24. Knots was always able to go with the times and I'm sure if they had the money they could've kept the show interesting and the ratings good enough to sustain itself. I mean look at how many similar shows the network tried to launch once Knots went off the air. The cul-de-sac and Sumner Group made it easy to bring in new characters. As long as they had Karen, Mack, Gary and Greg around they would've been fine.
