  1. With the success of “Days of our Lives” spinoffs, “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” and “Days of our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas,” for Peacock it’s not surprising that the other soaps are might want to hone in on something similar for their respective streaming homes. In an interview with executive producer and head writer Bradley Bell, TV Insider recently sat down with “The Bold and the Beautiful” mastermind questioning whether fans might see more of the Forresters and the Spencers outside of the daily broadcasts on CBS. Turns out, that possibility could become reality in the near future. “Yes. We’ve had conversations with CBS and Paramount+,” Bell revealed to the publication while discussing the show’s 35th-anniversary episode, which will air tomorrow, March 25 (after a national preemption today). “That’s something we’ve been considering. We’re not in production just yet. I’m sure the day will come when we do something specifically for streaming.” With “B&B” airing a standalone episode dedicated to Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and five of her most memorable loves, it wouldn’t be too hard for the soap to come up with something that could stretch into a five-episode limited series or two-hour movie for Paramount+, as “DAYS” did for Peacock, and it would be the perfect vehicle for the soap to gain even more international recognition as it continues its reign as the world’s most-watched daily serial. 2. With word that “The Young and the Restless” is currently in the process of recasting the role of Summer Newman (last played by Hunter King) while nothing was made of a recast of Kyle Abbott, it was widely expected that actor Michael Mealor would soon be reprising the role. Turns out the actor has not only returned to the daytime drama series but he’s back on contract, too! According to the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands tomorrow, the actor is back just in time for the big reveal that his character’s not so dead after all mother, Diane Jenkins, is not only alive but she’s being played by Susan Walters once more. Walters played the part from 2001-2004, and briefly returned in early 2010. Meanwhile, Kyle last appeared on “Y&R” just a few episodes back via a Zoom call with his father, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), wherein he learned that his half brother Keemo had died and the family was only just learning of the news while also gaining a new Abbott member via Keemo’s daughter, Allie (Kelsey Wang). “Of course, I’ll always be back when they call,” Mealor said to Digest last year, citing his love for the show and working with the people he’s worked alongside all these years. Making his “Y&R” debut in 2018, Mealor most recently appeared in an episode of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” for FXX. An official on-screen return date had not been revealed at press time. 3. If you tuned into the last couple of minutes of “The Young and the Restless” on Wednesday, March 23, you would have either been shocked or questioning the relevance of the scene as “Taylor Jensen” walked in, appearing as the potential buyer of Allie’s (Kelsey Wang) house. Depending on how long you’ve been watching the daytime drama series your eyes probably popped out seeing someone that looked very familiar or you didn’t think too much of what was happening. Either way, the entrance will have rippling effects on what’s to come in Genoa City in the weeks and months ahead. First things first: “Taylor Jensen” is really Diane Jenkins in disguise. The character last appeared on the soap in 2011 as played by Maura West (now appearing as Ava Jerome on “General Hospital”). Ironically, at the time Diane was embroiled in the center of a murder mystery arc for which she was the victim, making her return to the canvas with Susan Walters reprising the role very mysterious. When Walters was asked about that in an interview with TV Insider she said, “‘Yeah. Wasn’t me who died.” So does that mean the show will be ignoring that story altogether? We’ll soon find out as the story progresses. Note: Walters played the part from 2001-2004 and briefly returned in early 2010 before West took over later that year. Leading up to the big reveal, the soap shared a promo last week that told viewers to “brace yourself” as a woman is shown texting Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman). Now revealed to be Diane, Walters says her return to the soap was a surprise. “You know how voice texts can mispronounce words? I got one that said, ‘Hey, this is Tony Morina from ‘Wine Art’—not ‘Y&R.’ I didn’t pay much attention to it as Tony [‘Y&R’s executive producer] wasn’t there 20 years ago when I joined, but we had met since,” recalls Walters to TV Insider of the initial call she received asking her to reprise the role. “At first I ignored it, but then I listened to the message. I told Tony later, ‘What if I hadn’t listened to that message?!’ He said, ‘Well, we would have reached out to you again.’” Photo by Sonja Flemming/CBS Thankfully that didn’t happen and now Diane is here to stay! Check out the promo below as the soap briefly recaps Diane’s bad girl history, particularly in her dealings with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford). 4. Considering his character has been name-dropped by both Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) in recent episodes of “General Hospital,” albeit for different reasons, it’s only right that Damian Spinelli made an actual on-screen appearance on the soap, right? Well, just before appearing at last weekend’s “General Hospital Convention” in Burbank, actor Bradford Anderson revealed he’ll soon be back in Port Charles after spending a couple of days at the show’s Prospect Studios. In a photo shared on Instagram, Anderson appears outside of the show’s studio with the caption, “A lovely few days at Prospect Studios.” No additional information about his return was revealed in the post. Since the show has quickly inserted actors into scenes in the past, depending on the storyline, Anderson should appear on-screen as early as April. But don’t be surprised if it happens sooner. Anderson has been portraying Spinelli on “GH” off and on since 2006. In between appearances, the actor has guest-starred on episodes of “Homeland,” “Minority Report,” “Castle,” and “NCIS: Los Angeles,” among others. He’s currently co-hosting the “Stone Cold and the Jackal” and “That’s Awesome” podcasts alongside “GH” alum Steve Burton (ex-Jason Morgan). Bell and the late Lee Phillip Bell, the CBS soap remains the most-watched U.S.-produced daytime drama series in the world and is daytime’s second most-watched soap opera in the United States only behind parent series “The Young and the Restless,” which was also created by the aforementioned Bells. Additionally, the show has won 100 Daytime Emmy Awards out of 306 nominations and has shot episodes in 14 cities across 11 international countries. “[Thirty-Five] years ago, I would have never imagined what was in store,” said Bell of the show’s longevity. “Since our premiere in 1987, it’s been a fantastic journey and incredible experience for all of us. We would not be here if not for the invaluable support of CBS and our millions of fans around the globe for their loyalty and support.” On Thursday, March 24, the soap will air a special standalone episode dedicated to Brooke Logan (original cast member Katherine Kelly Lang) and five of her true loves. Fan favorites and former cast members Jack Wagner, who played Nick Marone from 2003 to 2012, and Winsor Harmon, who played Thorne Forrester from 1996 to 2016, return for this can’t-miss episode. Original cast member John McCook (Eric Forrester), and veteran cast members Don Diamont (Bill Spencer) and Thorsten Kaye (Ridge Forrester) are also featured. Watch the 35th Anniversary promo below. 11. We’re officially at the halfway mark of the 2021-2022 TV season as ratings for the week of March 14-18, 2022 represents the 26th week of the 52-week season. Some shows are doing better than others while some others might want to consider their options for next season. You can determine which ones we’re talking about in the comments below. For the week, every daytime broadcast series was down week-to-week among Total Viewers with “General Hospital” (2.177 million) losing the least amount, down -21,000 viewers while the first half-hour of “The Price is Right” (3.566 million) lost the most, down -451,000 viewers. The second half-hour (4.216 million) lost down -340,000 viewers. Compared to the same week in 2020 when viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19, the first half-hour is down -1.254 million viewers while the second half-hour is down -1.349 million viewers. Only “The Young and the Restless” (3.402 million) managed to maintain viewership somewhat on par with 2020 figures, down -43,000 viewers compared to 2020. In fact, week to week, “Y&R” is only down -39,000 viewers. After beating “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.665 million) in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating one week earlier, “The Talk” (1.376 million) fell back to last place, falling the most week to week in both demos. More specifically, in Women 25-54 rating, “The Talk” tied both “GH” and “Y&R” in week to week losses, each down -0.05. Only “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.847 million) saw a week to week increase in both demos (up +0.01) while the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.809 million) and “The View” (2.276 million) were also up slightly in Women 18-49, “GMA3” was the only other show up week to week in Women 25-54 rating. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of March 14-18, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2020. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon. Note: Year to Year comparisons are currently unavailable due to a gap in data received by Soap Opera Network one year earlier. Comparisons to 2021 figures will return in a few weeks. Households and Total Viewers for “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” were unavailable at press time which skews the rankings in those categories. Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know” which was later rebranded to its current iteration, effective March 2020. “The Talk” was not rated by Nielsen during the comparable week in 2020. 12. The CW has given an early renewal to seven of its scripted series for next season, joining already renewed unscripted fare “Penn & Teller: Fool Us,” “Masters of Illusion” and “World’s Funniest Animals” on the network’s 2022-2023 broadcast schedule. Returning next season is “Walker” (season three), “All American” (season five), “The Flash” (season nine), “Superman & Lois” (season three), “Nancy Drew” (season four), “Riverdale” (season seven) and “Kung Fu” (season three). “As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond,” said Mark Pedowitz, Chairman and CEO, The CW Network, in announcing the renewals. “These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially-engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint.” The network is expected to announce additional renewals and series orders over the next two months as it gears up to reveal its new lineup to advertisers in May. 13. First appearing on The CW’s “All American” in the show’s March 14 episode, entitled “Liberation,” “One Life to Live” alum Kamar de los Reyes (ex-Antonio Vega) is set to continue in a recurring capacity on the drama series about a gifted high school football star who changes schools to become a state champion at Beverly Hills High. “All American” Courtesy of The CW First reported by TheWrap, de los Reyes is playing Coach Mr. Montes, a smart, confident, and unpredictable Coastal California football coach who develops a unique relationship with Asher Adams (Cody Christian) that ends up challenging both of them. The name “Coach Mr. Montes” refers to how JJ Parker (Hunter Clowdus) distinguishes Montes from his wife (played by Alexandra Barreto) who is also named Coach Montes. Thus, he refers to her as Coach Mrs. Montes and the other as Coach Mr. Montes. Asher notes to JJ, “You know, you could just call them both ‘Coach Montes,’ right?” Thus far, Asher, who wants to become a student football coach, has been receiving tips from Mr. Tontes but unfortunately found himself without a job on the team as there were no openings available except for the role of laundry boy. Not wanting to pass up an opportunity when it presents itself, Asher quickly accepted as he told Mr. Montes, “I’d be a fool not to do whatever it takes to learn from the best, which you are.” Look for de los Reyes to appear in four episodes of what remains of the show’s current fourth season. Since last appearing on “One Life to Live” in 2009, de los Reyes has made a name for himself in Hollywood, starring in “Sleepy Hollow” for FOX in 2017, and appearing on a number of shows including “MacGyver,” “SEAL Team,” “Castle,” “Pretty Little Liars,” “Shooter” and “Blue Bloods,” among a multitude of others. More recently, the actor had a multi-episode guest arc on “The Rookie.” He also voiced Raul Menendez in the “Call of Duty: Black Ops” video game series. 16. “The Bold and the Beautiful” original cast member Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan) and co-stars Don Diamont (Bill Spencer) and Jack Wagner (Nick Marone) appeared on the Monday, March 21 episode of “The Talk” to discuss the daytime soap and the celebration of its 35th anniversary. The pair sat with co-hosts Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, Sheryl Underwood and guest co-host Margaret Cho and revealed what fans can expect later this week when the soap airs a special anniversary episode. Fans also got a glimpse at Lang’s audition tape, learned how Diamont’s characters on “B&B” and “The Young and the Restless” got named, and how Wagner responded to being back at the Television City studio where the daytime drama tapes. First things first: While original cast member John McCook (Eric Forrester) was a no-show despite being scheduled to appear, it turns out he’s the reason Lang got the job as Brooke Logan. “I credit John McCook for getting me that part, honestly,” said Lang of her audition test opposite McCook. “I was so lucky to be able to do that screen test with him. He made me so comfortable and so confident.” While Diamont has been on “B&B” for a number of years playing Dollar Bill Spencer, he actually got his soaps playing Brad Carlton on “The Young and the Restless.” He shared, “I played Brad on ‘Y&R’ and [the late] Bill Bell [co-creator of ‘B&B’ and ‘Y&R’] named my character after his son Brad [Bell; ‘B&B’ executive producer and head writer]. And now Brad hired me to play Bill on ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ 13 years ago. So my entire adult life I have worked for the Bells.” Returning to the “B&B” set for the first time since 2012, Wagner said of the experience, “I was actually pretty blindsided just by driving to CBS because I was on the show for 8 or 9 years.
