“The Drew Barrymore Show” has been picked up for a third season which will air during the 2022-2023 television season, producer CBS Media Ventures announced today. Stations owned by CBS, Sinclair, Nexstar, Gray, Scripps, Tegna and Weigel were among those signing on for another season of the daytime talk show which is confirmed to reimagine the traditional daytime format with producing and distributing the show as two half-hour episodes that can seamlessly run together back-to-back or be split apart to air separately. “I am honored and grateful but I also want to take this show higher and continue to innovate and be a game changer in the daytime space,” said the show’s host, Drew Barrymore. “Rising to the occasion of finding people in the diverse way they watch is what I want to challenge myself with. Our show wants to be a bright spot not a blind spot and we just want to make people feel good. And I thank all the people who helped us get here.” Currently airing at 9:00 a.m. on most CBS stations, the show will shift to 9:30 a.m. for its third season which will follow new half-hour local newscasts which will air at 9:00 a.m. CBS Stations will also have the flexibility to air both half-hours of “Drew” on its duopoly stations in markets where the Company owns two stations (ie. CBS-owned WCBS and WLNY in New York). CBS currently offers a similar half-hour block format on Sundays for “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.” The public affairs program which currently ranks number one for the season among Total Viewers (ahead of rivals “Meet the Press” and “This Week”) airs nationally as a half-hour program with many CBS stations choosing not to air the second half-hour due to other scheduling commitments. First announced earlier this month, Tubi, the free-to-watch (no subscription necessary) ad-supported streaming service from FOX Entertainment, will release the film “Crushed” on Friday, April 1. The coming-of-age comedy stars “General Hospital” actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Spencer Cassadine), Bebe Wood (“Love, Victor”) and Brenna D’Amico (Disney’s Descendants) and follows the exploits of a high-achieving, high-strung high school girl named Kate (Wood), who, during the senior class trip, tries to get together with Jason (Chavez), the hottest guy in school after he likes her Instagram photo. Carrying out her totally crazy scheme to hook up with him before the senior class trip ends, things start to spiral when her obsession gets out of control. The movie also stars Valerie Azlynn (“Sullivan & Son”), Kylee Russell (“Zombies: Addison’s Monster Mystery”), Lisa Yamada (“All of Us Are Dead”), Meg Wright (“Jeepers Creepers III”) and Bailey Stender (“Pop Music High”). As previously reported, former “General Hospital” star Max Gail (ex-Mike Corbin) will be appearing in the Friday, April 1 episode of CBS’ “Magnum P.I.” The actor will portray Bob Braddock, a terminally ill veteran who bonds with Magnum (Jay Hernandez) while the investigator is volunteering at the No Veteran Dies Alone Program. In the episode, entitled “Remember Me Tomorrow,” Magnum hopes to reunite Bob with his estranged family. Meanwhile, Higgins (Perdita Weeks) finds herself in a complicated situation when 12-year-old Ella (Hala Finley) asks for help cracking a triple homicide that involves her mother. In a first look preview (shown below), watch as Bob gets into a disagreement with his nurse over the plant-based food she’s giving him to eat. He tells her, “Lady, I’m gonna be dead before this comes out the other end.” Enter Magnum, who, after knocking on Bob’s door, introduces himself as a rep from the We Honor Vets/No Veteran Dies Alone program. Well, it's been two years since they adopted that portion of the name since the show debuted exactly two years ago last week. The got rid of "Pandemic" in the title in June of 2020. So, maybe we'll see them drop the longer title by then, if we're lucky? Either way, looks like news and talk are taking a hit right now particularly the daytime shows. Cable is thriving.

IMO, "All My Children" had its ish together even though it took a minute to hit the root storylines. "One Life to Live" was a mess.

Unfortunately, they allegedly never made any money off of the shows because the blew through that $25 million they got from ABRY without ever receiving any additional funding from another source. Allegedly, that's why they sought to sue ABC because then they could recoup some of the money they had to pay ABC for licensing characters. Again, allegedly.

After a steep fall one week earlier, both half hours of “The Price is Right” bounced back during the week of March 21-25, 2022 to hit five-week highs in Total Viewers, Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating (since the week of February 21-25, 2022). Leading the pack was the second half-hour of the game show (4.677 million) followed by the first half-hour (4.105 million) in second place. “The Young and the Restless” (3.403 million) gained just 1,000 viewers week to week to place third while the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” placed fourth with 2.887 million viewers. Rounding out the top five, placing fifth, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.736 million) fell the hardest of any daytime broadcast series week to week in Total Viewers, down -111,000. Tying “TODAY 3rd Hour” in Women 18-49 the previous week, “Y&R” held sole possession of the third place position in the demo (0.39 rating, +0.02) and also placed third in Women 25-54 (0.61 rating, -0.01). Ranking seventh in Women 18-49 (0.31 rating, -0.04) and sixth in Women 25-54 (0.47, -0.10), “B&B” again fell the most week to week in both demographics. “The View” (0.29, -0.01) was the only other daytime broadcast series to fall week to week in Women 18-49. Other shows falling in Women 25-54 week to week were “Y&R” (0.61, -0.01), “General Hospital” (0.42, -0.04), “The View” (0.37, -0.04) and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (0.30, -0.05). “The Talk” again ranked last among all daytime broadcast series in Women 18-49 rating, up +0.01 week to week (0.22 vs 0.21) while “GMA3” ranked last in Women 25-54 rating. “The Talk” gained viewers week to week, up +40,000 viewers while “GMA3” was down, losing -85,000 viewers week to week. “Days of our Lives” beat “The View” in Women 25-54, placing 10th in the demo with the talk show falling to 11th place. “DAYS” was up +0.01 in the demo and also gained +9,000 viewers week to week (1.623 million vs 1.614 million). Viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs in 2020 during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19. That being said, all shows are also down significantly compared to their 2019 figures with the exception of “GH” among Total Viewers. During the comparable week in 2019, “GH” averaged 2.288 million viewers, a difference of just 171,000 viewers. Note: Year to Year comparisons are currently unavailable due to a gap in data received by Soap Opera Network one year earlier. Demographic comparisons to 2021 figures will return next week and Total Viewers and Households will return in a few weeks. Roman Polanski may have been expelled by the Academy in 2018 but he was awarded an Oscar in 2003. He had already fled the country after pleading guilty to rape of a minor in the 1970s. He also had other accusations against him from that period.

Daytime newcomer Michael Blake Kruse has joined the cast of “General Hospital” in the newly created role of Rory, a rep for the soap has confirmed to Soap Opera Network. Rory is a new recruit at the Port Charles Police Department (PCPD). While a first airdate has not been announced, Kruse recently revealed on his website that he begins a “recurring role in a long-runny, Emmy award-winning television series” in March. Reportedly, Kruse is on contract with the soap, however, the show does not comment on actor contracts. In addition to “GH,” Kruse’s other acting credits include a guest-starring role on “Grey’s Anatomy” for ABC and appearances in episodes of “Criminal Minds” for CBS and “Strange Angel” for CBS All Access (now Paramount+), among others. He’s also had a supporting role in several Lifetime movies, including “Dead in the Water,” “The Ugly Christmas Sweater” and “Christmas Harmony.” The actor/model has appeared in several commercial and print spots for Lexus, Amazon, Sony Playstation, McDonald’s and EA Sports, among a multitude of other brands. He also did voice work for the Netflix series “Control Z.” He recently wrapped filming on an unknown studio film. “I’m low on the totem pole and out of the loop but I believe this was my last day working on this film,” said Kruse on Instagram last week. “It took nearly 15 years before actually landing a role on a studio feature. All of my terrible auditions were worth this experience. I pray my work serves this project – and makes the cut. Tabyana Ali made her daytime debut on the Friday, March 25 episode of “General Hospital” as Trina Robinson. She replaced Sydney Mikayla in the role and is appearing on contract with the soap. In her first scenes, Ali interacted with Brook Kerr who plays Trina’s mom, Portia, and Réal Andrews who plays Trina’s dad, Marcus Taggert. Moments before Trina appeared on screen as played by Ali, Portia and Taggert were discussing the recent Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Cameron (William Lipton) drama and whether it was a “sex tape” or “revenge porn.” In reality, they were most concerned about their daughter being accused by Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) of being the one to not only film the video itself but to also have been the one to share it on social media. The accusation has caused a rift between Trina and her friends. Cameron and Josslyn have since filed a police report on the matter with the hope that the person responsible gets caught. Considering Esme is the one behind everything, it’s only a matter of time before she gets found out, or, if she covered her tracks right, the wrong person will take the fall from a legal perspective, too. In follow-up scenes, Trina walks into class at PCU (Port Charles University) where Josslyn and Cameron had been conversing. After exchanging a few words, the group hugs it out before Cameron leaves to give Trina and Josslyn some time alone to talk. During their conversation, Josslyn reassures Trina that she doesn’t blame her for anything and they both know that Esme is behind everything. While she’s not sure if Esme intended to film her and Cameron having sex, Josslyn is sure that Esme ultimately wanted to draw a wedge between her and Trina. Sadly, by the episode’s end, Trina and Josslyn are interrupted by Commissioner Ashford (Tanisha Ashford) who tells Trina she’d like to have her come in for questioning over the tape after she received a tip that could place Trina as the culprit. In an Instagram story, Ali was asked what it was like shooting her first scenes with Kerr and Andrews. She said, “It was amazing! They honestly made it so easy for me! I always enjoy working with them.” Asked if she was nervous at all, Ali said, “Of course! “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Sean Kanan (Deacon Sharpe) will be the keynote speaker at the 2nd Annual “Oneness” of Lawrence County, Pennsylvania event that promotes and celebrates diversity and unity. The theme for this year’s event is “You Can Get There From Here!” which references residents who were born, raised and educated in Lawrence County. This includes Kanan who was a former Neshannock Township resident before relocating to Los Angeles. “The theme is directed toward our children,” said event organizer Michele Perelman, who is working with multiple community leaders in putting together the event. “It is a concept to not only recognize Lawrence County residents who have grown up and been educated here, but also who have gone on to other areas to do great things while still recognizing their hometown roots, or who have stayed here to plant roots and help our community.” In addition to Kanan, New Castle resident Shawn Anderson, Jr. will be there as a guest speaker. They will be among the inaugural group to be recognized. That wouldn’t work since the show is available to such a large international audience. One of the big selling points to international buyers is the show being a half hour. It’s easy to slide into slots. This is why any new soap or reboot has to be a half hour with the amount of episodes it would need to produce each year. Any “exclusive to Paramount+” content would be exclusive to another buyer internationally as well for their streamers.

After being pushed back due to a preemption late last month, the 35th anniversary episode of “The Bold and the Beautiful” has been pushed back again after CBS News broke in with coverage of President Biden’s press conference. “B&B” had aired just under two minutes of the special episode before a countdown clock appeared on-screen informing viewers of the special report. Due to the preemption, a repeat will air on the West Coast in place of today’s original episode. The 35th anniversary episode will instead air in full tomorrow, March 25, barring any further last-minute schedule changes. President Biden appeared at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium during the NATO summit and discussed the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The special standalone episode is dedicated to Brooke Logan (original cast member Katherine Kelly Lang) and five of her true loves. Fan favorites and former cast members Jack Wagner, who played Nick Marone from 2003 to 2012, and Winsor Harmon, who played Thorne Forrester from 1996 to 2016, return for this can’t-miss episode.
