The death of “General Hospital” actress Lindsey Pearlman garnered international attention on Friday when it was announced her body had been found days after she was reported missing by her family to the Los Angeles Police Department. Now comes word that following an autopsy the coroner has “deferred, pending additional investigation” her cause of death. According to the LAPD, at around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, February 18, officers responded to a radio call for a death investigation at Franklin Avenue and North Sierra Bonita Avenue. The body was later confirmed to be that of Pearlman whose full name was Lindsey Erin Pearlman. “The cause of death will be determined by the coroner,” the department said in a statement at the time. Per Deadline, Sarah Ardalani, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, said of Pearlman, “She was examined by a physician and a cause of death was deferred.” She noted, “Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies. Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination.” It can take several weeks before any updates can be provided on the manner and time of death. In the meantime, the case remains open and is being investigated by the police. “The police found Lindsey. She’s gone. I’m broken,” read a message posted on Instagram by Pearlman’s husband, Vance Smith, on Friday, February 18. “I will share more later, but I wanted to [sic] thank you to everyone for their love and efforts and ask you to respect the privacy of her family at this time.” Smith’s Instagram account has since gone private. “Lindsey was a fierce animal advocate and a talented actress. Please consider a donation to @SanteDOr in her honor,” read a message on Twitter by Pearlman’s cousin, Savannah, who had been relentlessly seeking the public’s help in finding Lindsey. “Lindsey Pearlman was terrific on @GeneralHospital and we are saddened to hear of this tragedy. Our hearts go out to her family and friends,” said “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini. In addition to her recurring role on “General Hospital,” Pearlman’s other television credits included such shows as “Selena: The Series,” “American Housewife,” “The Purge,” “Chicago Justice” and “Empire,” among others. She also appeared as the lead in such films as “Signal to Noise” and “Pry Me Open.” In theatre, she appeared in numerous productions, including “Trevor,” “The Eight: Reindeer Monologues,” and “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.” According to her website, Pearlman was a graduate of The Second City Conservatory and had been an active member in the Chicago theater scene before relocating to Los Angeles for more on-camera opportunities. Meanwhile, in an interview with Digest, co-head writers Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor spoke with the magazine about what viewers can expect as the walls close in on Peter now that law enforcement and the people that love Maxie the most are all converging on their whereabouts in Switzerland. “He is desperate to stay even half a step ahead of them,” says Van Etten of Peter’s thinking. Kelsey Wang has been cast in the role of “Allie” on “The Young and the Restless.” The character is described as a mysterious, young professional who catches the eye of one of Genoa City’s eligible bachelors. Most recently appearing in the recurring role of “Daisy Kwan” on “General Hospital” as a “Dawn of Day” recruit alongside Kristina Davis (Lexi Ainsworth), Wang’s other credits include the Netflix series “Daredevil” and appearing in the pilot for the potential dual-language series “Journey to the East,” which ultimately did not get picked up. Similar to Sony Pictures Television Inc. and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. in December, “The Young and the Restless” executive producer Anthony Morina earlier this month formally submitted his legal response to a lawsuit filed by former background actress Briana Thomas who appeared on “The Young and the Restless” in 2018 and 2019 as a barista. Courtesy of Sony Pictures Television Thomas is suing Morina, Sony and CBS, for wrongful termination. She alleges that during the time Morina had been the show’s supervising producer he sexually harassed her on a number of occasions, stating he would cozy up to her and give her compliments about her looks, often telling her she could “really be something” on the show. After rebuffing him and his advances, including his offer of a “private acting lesson,” Thomas alleges she was subsequently fired from the show. As Sony did before him, Morina’s filing notes he is “answering for himself and no others,” in response to the “unverified” Complaint for Damages (“Complaint”) filed by Plaintiff Briana Thomas (“Plaintiff”). Morina (“Defendant”) provided three instances for General Denial, including: Pursuant to California Code of Civil Procedure Section 431.30(d), Defendant denies, generally and specifically, each and every allegation contained in Plaintiff’s Complaint and each and every cause of action therein. Defendant further denies that Plaintiff has sustained any injury, damage or loss by reason of any act or omission on the part of Defendant, and specifically denies that Plaintiff suffered any of the damages alleged in the Complaint.Defendant further denies that Plaintiff is entitled to any relief against Defendant on any ground whatsoever, and denies that Plaintiff is entitled to damages against Defendant in any amount. In her 22-page lawsuit filed in August 2021, Thomas claims that Morina once complained about having to attend sexual harassment training sessions in the wake of CBS’ investigation into sexual harassment allegations brought against then CEO Les Moonves. Morina reportedly called the training sessions “bullshit” and that some “bitches” had “their panties in a bunch” and “didn’t know how to take a compliment.” The suit also claims that Morina once referred to a Black actress with short hair, saying, “[she] has a hot body, but it is too bad her head looked like a Chia Pet.” “I’m the reason why you have a job,” Morina allegedly told Thomas at one point as he offered her “private acting lessons,” Deadline reported. “I am doing you a favor. I like you. Do you understand what I’m saying?” Representing Thomas in her lawsuit is Carney Shegerian of Shegerian & Associates, the same lawyer who filed a lawsuit accusing Mike Richards, the now former host and executive producer of “Jeopardy!” While he was overseeing things at “The Price is Right,” Richards was accused of discriminating against a pregnant model. He denied the allegations. Thomas is seeking several forms of damages, including “unpaid wages, premium pay and statutory penalties” and fees. On February 15, a hearing was held to show cause for dismissal of any unserved defendants. Thomas filed requesting defendant GEP Cenex, LLC be dismissed “without prejudice.” The court granted the request without waiving court fees or other costs. A jury trial has been set for March 2023. Despite my love and passion for ABC, I'd have to go with CBS for this one reason: Only network with more than one soap still on the air. However, considering that at the time of their cancellations, All My Children and One Life to Live were 41 and 43, respectively, and GH was already 48, ABC ultimately had the best success with soaps based on overall length of its three shows. CBS previously held the mantle, again, during the time of As The World Turns and Guiding Light being on the lineup.

CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” is reportedly in the midst of recasting the role of Summer Newman, last played by Hunter King (“Life in Pieces,” “Hollywood Heights”) on the daytime drama series. According to a report by Michael Maloney, the soap has issued a casting call for the character who is described as “a dynamic, attractive woman in her Late 20’s–savvy, fun-loving, and refined, from a powerful and rich family.” This is a contract role with producing studio Sony Pictures Television and has the potential for a three-year deal. Since exiting the role of Summer, King reportedly has gone back to school. In an October 2021 interview with Soap Opera Digest, King told the magazine, “I’m taking an accelerated math class that’s only six weeks long, but next quarter, I’ll be taking a lot more classes. As of right now, my major will be psychology. And hopefully, I’ll be working that in with acting, but I’m in the pursuit of learning as much as I can and constantly growing as a person.” She noted, “Depression is something I’ve struggled with for years, so I’m passionate about finding ways to not only help myself but others in that way. That would be extremely rewarding for me. I also went to Europe for a while and I’m also auditioning but I feel like I’m at a weird crossroads in my life of, ‘What do I want to do next?’ I’m just taking it day by day of exploring what options are out there for me. I have a lot of things brewing, so it’s about finding out which one is the most interesting to me.” Despite the potential recasting of Summer, it doesn’t appear as though the show has plans to recast her beau, Kyle Abbott, last played by actor Michael Mealor. According to Maloney, there is currently no word yet on whether Kyle will be returning with Summer either played by Mealor or someone new. Born in 2006 (on-screen), Summer is the daughter of Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford). In spite of the methods used by rival Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) to get her a lucrative fashion job in Milan, Italy, Summer moved across the world upon realizing she couldn’t pass up her “dream job.” Even still, she missed Kyle who was growing closer to the son he didn’t know he had until Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) reappeared in his life. On the show, it was explained that Kyle and Tara had an affair some years earlier which produced the child who Tara named Harrison. Previously, Tara had passed Harrison off as the son of Ashland Locke (now played by Robert Newman). When it was revealed that Tara had been working in cahoots with Sally to keep Summer at bay, and following Tara’s arrest for embezzlement, Kyle abruptly ran off to Italy to be with Summer. The two have since declared their love for each other and have built a life for themselves, and Harrison, in Europe as husband and wife, appearing only on the rarest of occasions, including Ashland’s October 2021 Tuscan wedding to Summer’s aunt, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle). King most recently appeared as Summer in a special episode of the soap which centered on the life of the character’s father, the aforementioned Nicholas Newman (Morrow). The Christmas-themed episode aired on December 24, 2021, and saw King appearing as Summer via an 0n-screen call with her dad. Since January, King has been filming the upcoming thriller “Give Me Your Eyes” (working title), playing Jael Jones. Set for release later this year, the movie is about a woman (King) who volunteers for a video chat app that connects sighted individuals with visually impaired users. Her good service becomes a nightmare when Alejandra (Elyfer Torres), a mysterious, young blind woman, wakes her with a chilling late-night call: “There’s somebody in my house, I need your help.” In an isolated location where the police are not an option, Jael must remotely guide Alejandra as she flees a pair of hooded assassins … while unraveling the secrets of Alejandra’s dark past and increasingly violent nature. Soap alum Victoria Rowell (“The Young and the Restless”) has signed on for a recurring role on the CBS drama series “Good Sam,” which stars Sophia Bush (“One Tree Hill”) as Dr. Sam Griffith, a gifted heart surgeon who excels in her new leadership role as chief of surgery after her renowned boss/father, Dr. Rob “Griff” Griffith (played by Jason Isaacs), falls into a coma. According to Deadline, Rowell is set to play Tina Kingsley, a high-powered, sophisticated, chairwoman of the hospital board with the kind of power that does not assert itself. Alienated from her son Malcolm (Edwin Hodge), Tina possesses a strong will to take what’s in her sights, even when it means navigating complicated relationships from her past. Her son also happens to be romantically involved with Sam which, with the presence of Tina, can only cause more drama in all of their lives. In 2015, Rowell sued CBS and Sony Pictures Television (producer of “The Young and the Restless”) over allegations of retaliation, claiming she was “impoverished and blackballed because she had chosen to speak out against the discrimination and injustice that she had endured and witnessed happen to other African Americans” during her time working on the daytime drama series before opting to leave in 2007. Her character on the series, Drucilla Winters, was killed off and hasn’t been seen or heard from ever since. In April 2019, Rowell appeared as herself in a special tribute episode aired in the soap’s timeslot that was dedicated to the life of the late Kristoff St. John who passed months earlier. She appeared alongside former co-stars Christel Khalil, Bryton James and Shemar Moore on the set of the soap and on a special edition of “The Talk.” Watch a clip of Rowell talking about her friend and former on-screen love interest below. I happen to have loved that opening for One Life to Live. That was the only opening I knew of when I first started watching the show way back in the 90s. Dun, dun, dun, dun...dun, dun, dun, dun dun, dun dun, dun, dun, dun, dun...dun..............lol

There is no rule that something can't be posted more than once. However, if Toups or I determine that it would be best for a topic (in this case) to be merged we will do so. In the case of an individual post, there is no harm in someone else posting something similar. That person might not have seen the earlier post because there's no expectation that you have to read every post before you comment on something. Additionally, a person can have a perspective on something that differs from the poster who may have posted the same thing earlier. No harm. No foul.

The problem with the show when excluding any production or writing issues (namely Eve leaving even if for valid reasons), is time slot and distribution. Unlike cable which can rerun a series ad nauseam , including repeating the same episode minutes after its conclusion, broadcast networks only get to air a show once with the hope you tuned in. When they eventually get to showing a repeat it's several weeks later and by that point you are either hooked or you aren't. As for time slot, ABC has notoriously slotted most of its dramas for 10:00 p.m. which doesn't given them much room to find an audience since they have no compatible lead-in. It's either Bachelor/Bachelorette/Dancing with the Stars on Mondays or a load of crap sitcoms on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Only Thursday has any dramas airing before 10:00 p.m. That is pathetic. With NBC and CBS thriving with their Wolf Entertainment blocks (FBI Tuesday, Chicago Wednesday, Law & Order Thursday), you'd think ABC would get their head in the game at some point and think about airing drama earlier and dumping the mostly low-rated comedy blocks. CBS did for their Monday comedies and now has NCIS and NCIS:Hawai'i from 9-10. Not the greatest success but much more successful than ABC does on any other night, at least in viewers. The success of All American can solely be placed on viewers finding it on Netflix after its first season concluded on The CW. Anyone who watches that show and doesn't follow TV like we do more often than not thinks it is a Netflix original. The few times its ratings have grown is simply because of a lack of patience for the full season to drop on Netflix and some of its viewers finally woke up to the truth. Had it not dropped on Netflix I highly doubt it would still be on the air today much less getting a spinoff that's set to debut on Monday on The CW.

On Tuesday, February 15, ABC aired what was likely the series finale episode of first season drama “Queens.” The episode averaged an anemic 1.071 million viewers, a 0.20 rating in Adults 18-49 and a 0.29 rating in Adults 25-54, according to broadcast finals released by ShowBuzzDaily. For the night, “Queens” just managed to top repeat airings of dramas “Superman & Lois” and “Naomi” on The CW. In December, when ABC last highlighted the show’s ratings performance to the press, it was noted that after 35 days of delayed multiplatform viewing the premiere episode of “Queens” grew nearly five times over its initial Live+Same Day rating in Adults 18-49, a jump of +361% (1.66 rating vs. 0.36 rating). In Total Viewers, the series debut more than tripled its initial Live+Same Day average, up +211% (5.6 million vs. 1.8 million). Sadly, the early numbers couldn’t be duplicated with subsequent episodes and the show concluded what is likely its only season as one of the lowest-rated shows on broadcast television, again only beating programming aired on The CW. Following a hip hop group who reunite decades after their ‘90s peak, “Queens” starred Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez and Brandy as women in their 40s who work to recapture their fame, fortune and swagger. In the show’s finale episode, entitled “2022,” the Queens prepared to be inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame but they couldn’t help notice the void Brianna’s (Eve) absence from the group had left. After four weeks of less than desirable ratings on Monday nights at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, ABC has opted to pull primetime soap “Promised Land” off of its primetime schedule following the show’s final broadcast airing on Monday, February 21 which will be the show’s fifth episode overall. Thereafter, the show’s remaining episodes will release weekly, exclusively on Hulu starting Tuesday, March 1, reports TVLine. Regular time slot occupant “The Good Doctor” will be returning earlier than planned (originally sometime in the spring), debuting the second half of its fifth season on Monday, February 28. Over four airings, “Promised Land” averaged just 1.719 million viewers, a 0.19 rating in Adults 18-49 and a 0.30 rating in Adults 25-54, the two primary sales demos used to set primetime television advertising rates, according to figures available via ShowBuzzDaily. Factoring in delayed viewers (Live+7) over its first three episodes, the series average bumps up to just 2.9 million viewers and a 0.3 in Adults 18-49. Compared to ABC’s other dramas, “Promised Land” only performed better than “Queens” in Total Viewers while ranking last in the demo. Currently still in production as it has been allowed to complete its initial 10-episode order, “Promised Land” isn’t technically canceled. Should the streaming numbers be good enough to warrant a second season, the majority-owned and Disney-operated platform could continue with the show as an original series for the service. Note: A breakdown of the show’s overall ratings performance had not been released by ABC at press time. Typically, the network waits until full data from its Multiplatform+35 Day assessment is available before determining the success or failure of a series. Clearly, the linear ratings for “Promised Land” warranted a much quicker response. “Promised Land” follows two Latin families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley. Actress, model and fashion designer Helena Mattsson (“The Rookie,” “Mistresses”) will temporarily step into the role of Sasha Gilmore on “General Hospital” beginning Thursday, February 17. Mattsson is the real-life sister of the character’s regular portrayer, actress Sofia Mattsson. “I thought she was joking at first. But of course I said yes!” said Helena, speaking to Soap Opera Digest in its next issue, on sale Friday, of Sofia asking her to fill in. During her sister’s absence, Helena got to mix it up with the character’s on-screen love interest, Brando Corbin, played by Johnny Wactor. “He’s such a sweet guy. And very talented. He definitely put me at ease,” Helena said of their working together. “Such a blast jumping in on my sisters show for the day,” Helena said in a post on Instagram in late January while standing next to a poster of her sister in the hallway at the Prospect Studios in Hollywood where the soap opera films. The Friday, February 18 episode of VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race” will feature the ladies putting the pedal to the metal when they compete in this week’s Maxi Challenge, starring in the original drag race soap opera, “The Daytona Wind,” which will be directed by the reality show’s host and star RuPaul Charles himself. The winner of the challenge often receives a tip prize of $5,000, among other prizes, and the two who didn’t perform the best are left to lipsynch for their lives as they fight to stay in the competition for another week. Daytime broadcast game shows and talk shows took a beating during the week of February 7-11, 2022, seemingly impacted by NBC’s coverage of the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing. No show was hit more than “The View” which, coupled with moderator Whoopi Goldberg’s first and only full week suspension, hit a new season low in Total Viewers, Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating. “The Bold and the Beautiful” was the only daytime broadcast series to show improvement week to week in Total Viewers, gaining +23,000 viewers over its performance during the week of January 31-February 4, 2022. In addition, the half-hour soap along with “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “The Talk” were the only other daytime broadcast shows to gain week to week in Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating. All other shows were either flat or down. “The Bold and the Beautiful” tied for fifth place with the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” in Women 18-49 (both with a 0.36 rating) and tied for fourth place with “TODAY 3rd Hour” in Women 25-54 (both 0.61 rating), nipping at the heels of “The Young and the Restless” in both demos. Compared to the same week last year, only “General Hospital” and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” saw improvement in Women 18-49 rating while every daytime broadcast show saw a decline year to year in Women 25-54 rating. Similarly, “General Hospital” and “GMA3” were the only daytime broadcast shows up compared to their were up over their 2020 numbers among Total Viewers, up +63,000 and up +93,000, respectively.
