ARTICLE: ‘Days of our Lives’ Head Writer Posts Query: “Tell me your job so I can tweet at you how you’re doing it wrong”
Just like every other daytime writer before him, “Days of our Lives” head writer Ron Carlivati faces numerous bouts of criticism (and sometimes praise) on a daily basis over the show’s storylines, particularly the current possession arc which is far from over. In response, Carlivati recently tweeted a query directed at socially savvy upset fans of the soap, telling them to “tell me your job so I can tweet at you how you’re doing it wrong.” Carlivati is referring to the daily tweets he receives from fans of the drama series who verbalize their displeasure over the way characters are written, where storylines are headed, and what they think they could do better, among other criticisms. His tweet has since garnered nearly 400 responses and has been retweeted over 100 times and liked by more than 1,100 accounts. Some of the responses included comments from those in the soap industry, including “General Hospital” alum William deVry (ex-Julian Jerome), former “DAYS” co-executive producer Greg Meng, composer and music supervisor RC Cates (“The Young and the Restless”), actor Greg Rikaart (Leo Starks, “DAYS”; Kevin Fisher, “Y&R”), and countless others. “Well… .I study lines, make choices, intentions, work on technique & perfecting choices that I think best reflects the character in that scenario. I fail 9 out of 10 times,” read deVry’s tweeted response. “They couldn’t give me “all the tea in China” to do your job! It’s the chocolate factory… speed ‘em up! The clock keeps ticking… while you live and breathe it 365 days a year! I’m worn out just stating this… and I’m in awe,” said Meng. “I usually have 12 tones to choose from. I’m expected to put them in an order that is pleasing to others,” noted Cates. “Haha!” said Rikaart who included the “skull and crossbones” emoji, referencing the metaphorical expression, “I’m dead.” One fan responded to Carlivati’s tweet, saying, “Excellent point well made. I’m a paralegal and I get told by clients I’m doing my job wrong all the damn time. It’s classless, demeaning, and usually stems from a lack of understanding. Just give people the space and the grace to do what they were trained to do.” Another said, “DAYS popularity has always been because it was the campy, supercouple, comic booky , action/adventure soap, since I watched as a young boy on the late 80s, the show has never been realistic , that’s part of its appeal, I’ve seen more grounded , realistic soaps.” Added another, “People are so ridiculous! They have no idea what it takes to try & make a long running show riveting 5 days a week without repeating story lines & with a limited cast of characters! The crazy talent & creative writers have a challenge every day. Just know most of us appreciate.” Check out more tweets from industry insiders below. ARTICLE: Joshua Benard Returning to ‘General Hospital’
Joshua Benard is returning to “General Hospital,” his father, Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos), recently announced. The younger Benard was last seen on the daytime drama series in 2018 playing a younger version of his father’s character in flashbacks. While details of his return have not been released, fans can look forward to seeing the younger Benard again on the Wednesday, March 16 episode. Joshua has been making a name for himself since his acting debut in 2017’s “The Ghost and the Whale,” which starred his father playing the role of Joseph Hawthorne, a bi-polar man shrouded in a mystery after he returns to the sleepy town of Bodega alone. When an acclaimed journalist comes to town, they must together try to uncover the truth of what happened to Hawthorne’s wife following her disappearance and his subsequent exoneration when it creates a divide around town, and moreover her bloodthirsty family. Joshua played a younger version of Joseph. More recently, Joshua had roles in the 2020 short “Boys of a Certain Age” and appeared in a 2021 episode of ABC’s “Station 19.” The younger Benard is an avid singer, pianist and guitar player, in addition to his burgeoning acting career. ARTICLE: ‘Y&R’s Eric Braeden Uncensored: Previous Regime Wanted to “Get Rid of Me”, Plus How Victor Takes Back Control
Eric Braeden has been portraying the iconic Victor Newman on “The Young and the Restless” for more than 42 years, garnering a Daytime Emmy Award for his portrayal in 1998 in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor. With that many years under his belt and eight nominations overall in the same category, along with countless other accolades, the daytime legend commands respect without uttering a word. In fact, Braeden went viral last August when Twitter user @chris_notcapn tweeted, “If you’re a millennial and know who this white man is, you spent a lot of time with your grandmother as a child.” So, it’s disheartening to learn that there was a time not too long ago in which Braeden could’ve stopped playing the character had the show’s previous regime gotten its way. Eric Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott (“The Young and the Restless”) Photo by Howard Wise/JPI Studios In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands now, Braeden told the publication, “What the last regime really wanted, to be frank with you, was to get rid of me and get rid of Melody [Thomas Scott, Nikki], if you want to know the truth.” The actor was speaking on how the Newman empire is one of the show’s cornerstones after he was asked “When are we going to see Victor be Victor?” In response, Braeden said, “The last regime introduced things that no one gave a damn about, okay? Let’s call a spade a spade. No one gave a damn about some of those storylines, no one, because they were not part of the history of that show! I hate to say it, but obviously, the Newman empire is one of the main cornerstones of the show.” It’s understood Braeden was referring to the Mal Young regime (former executive producer/head writer) which preceded the current team led by executive producer Anthony Morina and co-executive producer/head writer Josh Griffith. Asking for more information from Braeden, the actor said, “You must remember that people who come onto the show as new executive producers have their own egos, and they think they can rewrite it, they can redo it all. What they don’t understand is that [Co-Creator/Former Head Writer] Bill Bell was a brilliant man who laid a very sound foundation, and if you want to veer away from that foundation, it will begin to flounder. That’s all I’m going to say.” While being asked about retirement again, which Braeden previously stated was something he’s not interested in doing, saying to PEOPLE last year, “I intend to stay as long as I can. I love my life. I love my colleagues. I love my family and friends. So do I see myself retiring anytime soon? Hell no!” He told Digest, “The notion of retirement makes me fall asleep [laughs]. No, keep on going! Keep on going, man, keep on going and fighting. I can’t do it. I’m too restless. I’m young and restless! I couldn’t do that. I would have to find something new that would absorb me. Beyond that, I love my job. I love to communicate with people.” Braeden joined TikTok in November, posting 11 videos thus far and garnering nearly a quarter of a million followers. Two of his videos have since amassed 2.9 million and 2.5 million views, respectively. When asked about people getting to see a more lighthearted side of him on the platform, Braeden said, “If there’s one thing that we fortunately have on our show, and that I enjoy very much, it’s that we laugh a lot about this stuff. What people don’t understand is that you have a lot of dialogue to learn, and that process is its own world. I love to laugh.” Note: The post ‘Y&R’s Eric Braeden Uncensored: Previous Regime Wanted to “Get Rid of Me”, Plus How Victor Takes Back Control appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: Soap Vet Vincent Irizarry In Recovery Following Emergency Surgery
On Friday, March 11, actor Vincent Irizarry (“All My Children,” “Days of our Lives,” et al) underwent emergency surgery to reduce the fluid flowing to his brain after an altercation in December left him with a head concussion after he intervened in a domestic matter between two strangers. In a post on Instagram, girlfriend Yvonne Glisson revealed that after leaving a restaurant/bar Irizarry “witnessed a man being volatile to his wife in the parking lot. He went right over to intervene and calm the man down and instead was then violently hit to the ground himself, suffering multiple bruises and a serious head gash and concussion resulting in fluid to his brain. The man then proceeded to beat his wife unconscious. Vincent was rushed to the ER and had to be treated for his head wound, injuries and tests run. Unfortunately, that fluid has increased substantially over the last 3 months.” In a follow-up post shared hours after his surgery, Glisson gave an update on Irizarry’s status, saying, “Vincent’s surgeon performed the procedure early this am skillfully but finding a bit more than he expected. But he has been watched and tested all day and thankfully fluid has not increased again. They will keep him there and be watching for that or any complications and observing his condition before sending him home. Otherwise, Vincent has been awake all day talking, eating and being his ever-charming self even with his head bandaged and tubes coming out all over him! On behalf of Vincent, Thank you for all the love and well wishes. It is not overlooked or taken for granted. He is as always grateful.” Filmed prior to his surgery, Irizarry will be a featured guest on the Youtube series “MB: State of Mind,” hosted by “General Hospital” star Maurice Benard. The episode will be released Sunday afternoon on the platform. Watch a clip below of Benard wishing his friend well during his recovery period while also teasing what’s to come in their conversation on “State of Mind.” Note: The post Soap Vet Vincent Irizarry In Recovery Following Emergency Surgery appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: ‘General Hospital’ and ‘Passions’ Star Lindsay Hartley On Her Fateful Journey from Soaps to Becoming a Directing Maven
Nearly 23 years since making her daytime debut as Theresa Lopez Fitzgerald on “Passions,” Lindsay Hartley has emerged as a powerhouse actress with subsequent roles on “Days of our Lives,” “All My Children,” and most recently, “General Hospital,” among others. It’s her role as director, however, where she’s getting to shine. With seven directing credits already under her belt in just two years, and many more in development, Hartley barely has a moment to breathe before she’s jet-setting from city to city, taking on the next thriller, whether it be about a dysfunctional family, romance gone awry, or teens being teens without adult supervision. Her most recent experience was the release of “Romeo and Juliet Killers” for streaming service Tubi where she showed how ambitious and daring she could take words from the page to the screen. Inspired by real-life events, the movie stars Kelly Sullivan (“General Hospital,” “The Young and the Restless”) playing the role of Joanne, a mother trying to protect her underage daughter, Tylar (Leigha Sinnott), from the much older boyfriend, Boston (Zachary Roozen), who seems to have knowingly had no issue being intimate with a girl not of legal age. Deciding to get rid of the person stopping her from being with the man she loves, Tylar concocts a plan to kill her mother with Boston playing a key role. It’s forbidden love, twisted desire, and a dangerous obsession all rolled into one. WATCH “ROMEO AND JULIET KILLERS” ON TUBI Tylar Witt and Steven Colver (aka “Boston”), dubbed “Romeo and Juliet” by the media in 2009 for their unsuccessful plan to commit suicide before eventually being captured by police, were eventually convicted for the killing of Joanne Witt and were later sentenced to 15 and 25 years, respectively. So, what part of the movie actually happened in real life versus the fictionalized version? You’d be surprised to learn that most of it actually took place with the exception of one little detail. “One of the main things that were kind of fabricated was the neighbor. There was a neighbor in real life that talked to Tylar, and Tylar kind of alluded to the mom and their problems and stuff but there was no next-door neighbor that was best friends with the mom,” admits Hartley, who also noted, “The other change was that Tylar was really 14. We adjusted that more for filming purposes.” Courtesy of Tubi Being that the movie does include bits of nudity, including full-frontal nudity shots of Sinnott, it’s quite understandable. In fact, Roozen also had shown some skin, albeit from the backend. “We got that cute little butt showing in there,” Hartley comments with a laugh, referring to an intense scene in which Boston is forceful with another character as she tries to exit the house. “We needed it there to have that shock and awe factor,” Hartley points out. “Zach was so lovely. He really came prepared, he had done all the research so if you needed anything answered he knew it. He was such a team player, very open, and just comfortable with the fact that we had to show his butt. And so, it was kind of a big deal especially with Leigha as well. Asking them to trust me to expose themselves like that.” Speaking of her young leads, Hartley sounds like a proud momma. “I think they crushed it and Kelly crushed it as well. Everybody was very committed to doing the best they could to make the story as believable and as insanely realistic as it was,” she says. Courtesy of Tubi Talking more about Kelly Sullivan and her performance as a mother who can’t seem to control her daughter and is faced with allowing a stranger to live in their house as it seems to be the only thing making her daughter happy, Hartley says of Sullivan’s portrayal, “I’m blown away by her. I was talking to someone else about Kelly’s performance and I’ll say this again… that scene where she goes into the bedroom and rips everything down and then she puts the picture frame to console herself, to her chest, the microphone is on her chest and I have the headphones on because I’m listening and I just hear her heartbeat like beating super fast. I’ve never heard an actor’s heartbeat before like that, like really constant. I’m like, ‘Jesus!’ She was extraordinary and such a lovely person, on top of all of it. Just ready to go, a team player, and it just makes my life so much easier.” The overall cast were team players, too, Hartley quickly points out. “That’s what’s so special about this gang too, is that everybody came asking questions even if they didn’t know the story, were fully knowledgeable or they knew how to get the information and they were ready to go to dive into a little something different than Lifetime,” she says. As for the mindset the mother must have had, allowing her daughter to do the things she did, Hartley contemplates, saying, “There is some kind of bizarre truth to understanding where the mom was coming from. I mean, yes, Tylar was out of control, probably needed medication and some severe help like a therapist and stuff. We know she wasn’t a sane human – she killed her mother – and had severe anger issues, and she needed help. [With that said], there are people that are super afraid of losing what they love and are blinded by incidences. Their guilt and shame takes over and then they don’t see the real image in front of them because their filters are messed up.” Referring to a flashback scene in which Joanne attempts to discipline Tylar that eventually leads to her temporarily losing custody of her daughter when CPS gets involved, Hartley thinks Joanne chose to “avoid or justify her daughter’s actions because of what happened at that young age that mom’s not thinking clearly. It just escalates into creating this monster that ultimately, the daughter decides to kill to make her own life easier.” After Tylar and Boston commit the heinous act there’s a scene in which we see Tylar sleeping next to her mother’s corpse, which might be proof that we’re dealing with a psychopath. “It’s like that same moment before when they were fighting,” Hartley recalls. “This girl, she’s so lost. In a weird way, I don’t know if you can say you can understand, but she was very, very deeply messed up. Clearly, very troubled. She was doing what everybody does in circumstances when you’re searching for options, trying to find the right path except her answers were insane, deadly, and she needed to be locked up. Her thought process was the same it’s just her choices were out of control and unrealistic and deadly.” Unfortunately for Boston, he doesn’t realize he was being manipulated the whole time, that is until the police tell him that no, he would not have been facing a felony charge for his relationship with Tylar. He would have only faced misdemeanor charges. The whole time he was being told the opposite by Tylar which is how she justified them killing her mom. It seems like Google was not his friend. “He was blinded by her, I guess,” says Hartley of what she thinks might have been going through the real Boston’s head at the time. “In the case, they investigated and people would speak up on Culver’s behalf and they said he wasn’t a bad kid. It was her, she had all the bad history. ‘Could you be so in love with somebody?’” Hartley ponders. “I mean, I guess, it does happen a lot.” Also being manipulated was the mother who allowed Boston to live in her house just to please her underage daughter. “I think that also shows how desperate the mom was to make her daughter happy that she wasn’t thinking straight. It all kind of weirdly makes sense, her choices,” says Hartley. Directing her first movie in 2020 with the release of “Mommy Is a Murderer,” Hartley has some people to thank for giving her first directing gig. “I have a give a shoutout to Eric Woods and Stan Spry from Cartel who produced this with Tubi,” starts Hartley. “When I decided that I wanted to try directing I went to Eric, kind of meeting with him a couple of years ago, and he said ‘Yeah, you can direct ‘Forgotten Adduction’ which is also called ‘Mommy is a Murder.’ So he gave me my first chance. He believed in me first and he brought me back for this one. I always tell him ‘Thank you,’ because he helped get me in there and then I obviously had to work my ass off, and you do, you have to work really, really hard. It’s a new occupation. I’m now acting, I’m now writing, and now I’m directing. So it’s a new part in the entertainment field that I have to hope does well so that people trust me with their films, and I love it.” Although she’s spending most of her time behind the camera, don’t expect Hartley to give up acting anytime soon. “I definitely have not forgotten about acting. I did a little stint in December as an actress. The producer then asked me to do another little thing for a thriller, and then I did another thing for this romance movie,” she says. “They’ll throw me in for a little bit part, so I have done the acting and the directing at the same time, but the parts are small. I did stuff on ‘General Hospital’ for a brief bit, so I will try to sprinkle in the acting as well but I’m very busy right now directing.” While it’s been more than a decade since she last played Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald on “Passions” and had to say one of the most overused words over the show’s nine-year run, “fate,” and equally overused phrase “I’m going to marry Ethan,” which some fans like myself found quite annoying, no one was probably more annoyed than Hartley herself, albeit in a not very serious way. “You?! I literally had to say I’m going to marry Ethan Crane for nine and a half years straight. Like, almost daily. ‘I’m going to marry him, I’m going to marry him, I’m going to marry Ethan Crane…,’ and then thank God, I married him though. Jesus! [laughs]” One thing that no one seemed to have ever asked Hartley in regards to Ethan and Theresa’s relationship, even dating back to before they even met on-screen, was why did she want him? Was there something Theresa knew that the rest of us didn’t? You know what we mean… Eric Martsolf, Lindsay Hartley (“Passions”) Photo by Brian Lowe/JPI Studios “What was the reason? Why? You know, What was the reason? That is such a good point!” a surprised Hartley says. “No one’s ever asked me, like, ‘Why do you think Theresa was all about Ethan?’ [laughs hysterically]. Yeah, they had no relationship. Oh, my God! I never even thought once to ask because she didn’t [know him]. She never developed a relationship with him. She just fixated on him.” As for “Passions” itself, Hartley has nothing but fond memories of the show and the fans that grew up watching it, and would even love to see it rebooted for a new generation of fans, especially with what is going on in the world right now. “James Reilly created a great show. It couldn’t have had a better tone,” says Hartley speaking fondly of the show’s late creator and head writer. “The world actually needs ‘Passions’ today, honestly, to laugh at. To have fun. Not be taken so seriously. To experience this extreme world which is hell and heaven and the actors wearing outfits for like 30 days in real life and saying the same stuff, and having the nights go on for like a month. It was fun. We even had a witch on our show.” Lindsay Hartley, Eric Martsolf (“Passions”) Photo by Paul Skipper/JPI Studios Speaking directly to the “Passions” fans still out there, Hartley wants you to know this: “Thank you for sticking with me and still caring about ‘Passions’ after all this time, and still supporting daytime because I’m a huge fan of daytime and also shout out to Tubi for them trusting me with this project as well.” With more directing projects in the works, including a new steamy romance thriller, Hartley was in early preparation for a trip to Boston for yet another thriller. “It’s adrenaline. I think a lot of it, realistically, is when you are doing a soap you learn how to work really hard and you wrap your day and you go home, especially in the beginning. You have to memorize all that dialogue at night so it’s kind of like the same thing,” Hartley says of how she’s able to jump in and out of projects without missing a beat. “Your workday doesn’t end when you walk offset. I have to go home, I have to look at the next day, make sure I know what I’m filming, the shots, all that kind stuff. Right now I’m looking at auditions for the next movie, looking at re-writes, looking at locations, because I’m doubling up since I start quickly on the next one and then I might be having one as soon as I come back too. I’m just waiting for the final call.” Here’s a fun fact you probably didn’t know about Hartley: “I always wanted to be a teacher. It was something I was thinking about doing [growing up]. I love kids and I love people learning, and I do love learning. I’m a big fan of ‘the more information the better.’” WATCH “ROMEO AND JULIET KILLERS” ON TUBI “Romeo and Juliet Killers” is currently streaming on Tubi, which is available on all your favorite devices, including the web, most Smart TVs, mobile and tablet devices. ARTICLE: Amanda Setton Talks Brook Lynn’s Return to ‘General Hospital’: Where She’s Been, What’s Next
With the Peter August (Wes Ramsey) storyline coming to a close last month on “General Hospital,” Brook Lynn Quartermaine decided soon afterward to leave town so that she could get her thoughts together after returning Bailey Louise to her biological mom, Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms). Now, back in Port Charles starting with today’s episode, Brook Lynn’s portrayer, Amanda Setton, spoke with Soap Opera Network about where her character went, what’s going through her head now, and what’s next between Brook Lynn and Chase (Josh Swickard), among other hot button topics. Joining the cast of “General Hospital” in 2019, Setton is no stranger to the soap world. She portrayed the recurring role of Penelope Shafai on The CW’s “Gossip Girl” from 2008-2012, while in between she portrayed Kimberly Andrews on “One Life to Live.” Since then, she’s starred in such primetime shows as “The Mindy Project” and “The Crazy Ones,” playing opposite the late Robin Williams and former “All My Children” actress Sarah Michelle Gellar. She’s also played a role in the original “Sex and the City” movie, and appeared in the films “That Thing with the Cat,” “Black Dog, Red Dog,” and “Birth of a Poet,” among others. However, her character on “General Hospital,” that’s who she calls the “spicy one.” “I absolutely love playing Brook Lynn,” says an excited Setton. “It has been such a joy and a real gift, and she’s really fun. She’s dynamic. She’s intense. She’s a firecracker and that’s really fun to play.” While fun wouldn’t be the best word to use to describe recent events, Setton does enjoy playing the character’s comedic side. “Obviously the last couple of months it’s been pretty dire and serious, but I do think that [the writers] sort of picked up that I try to play the comedy. I try to bring that into Brook Lynn [because] there’s really heightened stakes and important stuff going on, so it’s good to bring some light-heartedness.” It becomes easier to do play when you have a great scene partner, notes Setton of Kirsten Storms who plays Maxie. “I love the dynamic that they’ve created between Brook Lynn and Maxie,” Setton says, referring to the show’s writing team. Eden McCoy, Kirsten Storms and Amanda Setton (“General Hospital”) Photo by Scott Kirkland/ABC “I love working with Kirsten; she’s the best,” notes Setton of her off-screen friendship with Storms. “On set, they call us Lucy and Ethel, and we love it cause we’ve become really good friends off-camera as well and so we love spending time together and playing off each other, bringing that sort of spunky, funny, shenanigan energy to our scenes.” In addition to Storms, Setton also has built behind-the-scenes friendships with much of the show’s cast, including on-screen father Wally Kurth (Ned Ashton Quartermaine), on-screen stepmom Lisa LoCicero (Olivia Quartermaine) and on-screen love interest Josh Swickard (Harrison Chase). “I’m so lucky I get to work with the best cast and the best people,” she says of her co-stars. “I just have gotten to work with the very best and I happen to be close to all of them off-camera as well. So, it’s just been a really fun environment.” Photo by Scott Kirkland/ABC Previewing where Brook Lynn’s been and what’s to come upon her return, Setton tells us, “[Brook Lynn] goes to Bensonhurst to visit her mom. Basically, Brook Lynn’s got to get out of dodge. This really hit her hard and you’ll see when she returns just how hard it’s hit her. She’s really devastated at the loss of this baby.” Breaking down Brook Lynn’s emotional state, she shares, “This baby really gave her a home, forced her to create a home, gave her a sense of purpose, and also opened up a side of Brook Lynn’s heart and kind nature that I don’t even think she really knew was there. And the vulnerability that I think has come out of Brook Lynn as a result of having Bailey has been quite powerful and really beautiful, and I think it shocked her. It was too much. She needed to go away for a minute, collect herself, go see her mom, go see her cousins, go back to the old neighborhood and she ultimately does return to Port Charles because she knows that’s really where she belongs, probably for more reasons than one. I’m sure Chase is a part of that, but there’s still a lot of confusion and angst, questioning it and all of that upon her return.” Amanda Setton, Josh Swickard (“General Hospital”) Photo by Valerie Durant/ABC Speaking of Chase, the couple shared their first kiss under the stairs at General Hospital. So we wondered where things might be going from there. “Josh and I are really good friends. We have a really great dynamic on screen that just works,” Setton explains of her chemistry between herself and Swickard. “There’s an angst that the writers have written that is really fun as an actor to play because you have to sort of harness all of this energy that’s just there and hold it in, hold it back, and all of the emotions come out of that force. I hope that’s what people are seeing.” As for Swickard himself, she says he’s an absolute professional. “He’s always prepared, really great energy. He’s a wonderful scene partner, a very generous actor and also really funny. So, we happen to have a lot of fun which is always great.” When Chase stepped up, pretending to be Bailey’s father even though he knew he wasn’t, and kept Brook Lynn’s secret after learning Bailey’s true parentage, it became clear that the two might have a future together. So will they or won’t they go there? “Josh and I talk about how there are romantic comedy elements,” Setton says of their characters. “It’s just, again, like this push and this pull like they keep missing each other… our feelings keep missing each other. We have all these misunderstandings and this communication, and so, as a viewer, I’m sure it’s very frustrating because you’re like, ‘Just tell her. Just tell her!’ For us to play it, it’s just a lot of these pregnant pauses and these moments of energy that are building, which is again, really fun to play.” Photo by Todd Wawrychuk/ABC While things seem to be moving along well for Chase and Brook Lynn, let’s not forget the elephant in the room: Brook Lynn’s lie to Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and where things stand between the two now that the real truth is out. Will Valentin ever forgive her? Is there a triangle brewing? “I don’t think that is going to happen, but you never know,” Setton says of where things might go between Chase/Brook Lynn/Valentin. “That’s always possible and I’m always open to it because I love working with James. We have a ball!” She adds, “I will say that I think that Valentin has been so painfully hurt by Brook Lynn but now has come to see the truth and, you know, I think he, like everybody else, is just in awe of her courage and strength to do what she did by keeping that baby and pretending it hers to keep Bailey safe. Again, that’s unclear how things move forward. I think at this point, the gratitude is just, ‘Oh, great. Brook Lynn and Valentin are in a better place.’ He knows the truth. It’s out there now. Everybody sees the truth, and maybe on some level, maybe one day they’ll connect on the loss of Bailey because he had to lose her as his daughter and now she’s had to lose her as hers.” Speaking of which, fans at one point were worried Brook Lynn’s attachment with Bailey would lead to her deciding not to give the baby back to Maxie. While that isn’t happening, Setton says, “That doesn’t seem organic… I know we’re talking about a soap opera, but I do feel like the direction of Brook Lynn is where everything’s been two feet on the ground. I think she cares… this sort of love and kindness that has come out of her, that’s shocked her, that’s shocked everybody around her for Bailey and for Maxie. I don’t think she would threaten that or damage that. I think she truly loves this baby and knows Bailey really deserves to be with her mother. I think Brook Lynn’s just mourning and grieving the fact that it’s not her. Circling back to Brook Lynn’s time, well, in Brooklyn, we wondered what the character’s mother has been up to since we last saw her. “That’s not really clear,” Settons laughs. “I can share with you what’s in my head. She’s my music manager, she’s in Brooklyn doing her own thing, still in the music business, but yeah, there’s no real information [on that].” No conversation could end without at least learning some things about a person you previously didn’t know, so here are five favorite things about Amanda Setton. ARTICLE: ‘The Nick Cannon Show’ Officially Canceled, Host Addressed the Matter On Air This Morning – VIDEO
After reports surfaced late last night that his daytime talk show was being canceled after just six months on the air, actor/comedian/personality Nick Cannon addressed the topic on this morning’s final live episode as part of the “Rumor Report” segment which features radio host Angela Yee from “The Breakfast Club” discussing the latest happenings in Hollywood. Nick Cannon, Angela Yee (“The Nick Cannon Show”) Photo by Jocelyn Prescod/Debmar-Mercury Asking Cannon to comment on the matter, Yee noted that various reasons have been cited for the show’s cancellation including low ratings (the show is averaging a mere 0.4 rating in syndication households) and the upcoming fall launch of “The Jennifer Hudson” which has already been cleared to air across the FOX Television Stations group which make up the primary stations for “The Nick Cannon Show.” “This is show business,” Cannon told Yee and his audience. “We know the biggest word in that is ‘business,’ and this is a business. As a businessman, I know that as much fun as we have on the show business is the thing that makes this whole thing tick and operate. Honestly, I show up each and every day bright and early to give you a show, but I’m also a businessman and you understand when there’s certain platforms… this has been a dream come true for me. To be able to do this for you each and every day, but my business mind… I want to expand and elevate in a way so I’m gonna still be here. I’m still gonna do this.” Indicating “we ain’t going nowhere,” Cannon alluded to taking his audience elsewhere. “It’s about broadening my audience and really tapping into my audience in a big way. What this has shown me over the last six months is together you guys have really become my family and this is the best working crew.” In a statement released this morning, producing studio Debmar-Mercury confirmed the show’s cancellation, with Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, co-presidents of the company, saying, “It’s never easy to cancel a production with clear potential but, after a great deal of deliberation and examining various options, we have made the difficult business decision to end production on Nick Cannon.” They added, “We plan to offer viewers original episodes of the daytime talk show through the remainder of this season. Our thanks go to the very talented Nick Cannon and our wonderful production team, and we wish Nick continued success with his many hit ventures.” Reportedly, today’s final taping of the “The Nick Cannon Show” was originally set to be the last before a planned five-week hiatus due to the busy schedule of the talk show host who would be off filming episodes of both “The Masked Singer” and “Wild ‘N Out.” The daytime talk show’s crew instead will receive several weeks’ pay as part of a severance package as they seek new work opportunities. The show is said to have enough episodes already shot that will keep on the air with originals through its May series finale. Watch Cannon address his show’s cancellation below. ARTICLE: ‘The Good Dish’ Canceled Less Than Two Months Since Debut in National Syndication, Other Options Being Explored
Preparing for the launch of “Sherri” and “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” it looks like the FOX Television Stations group is cleaning house following the cancellations of “The Wendy Williams Show” and the reported cancellation of “Nick Cannon Show.” Now comes word that the station group has also decided against moving forward with “The Good Dish” which replaced “The Dr. Oz Show” on the core FOX stations. From Sony Pictures Television which also produced “Dr. Oz,” “The Good Dish” combined “good food, good friends and good dish” with the premise that fun could be had in the kitchen without even having to do the dishes (what?). The show was hosted by resident foodies Daphne Oz, Gail Simmons and Jamika Passoa as they shared easy-to-recreate recipes, simple shortcuts, money-saving tips, must-have trends, and effortless how-tos. “It’s all about having confidence and fun in the kitchen… and in life!” read the tag. According to Deadline, SPT is looking to shop the series with cable or streaming as a likely option. The studio declined to comment on the show’s cancellation by the FOX group, however. Launched in mid-January with a 90% clearance rate, including on top stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and Dallas, “The Good Dish” was a last-minute replacement for “Dr. Oz” following Dr. Mehmet Oz’s decision to run for a Senate seat in Pennsylvania. Despite his show being previously renewed through the 2022-2023 television season, which would have marked his 14th season on the air, election laws in the United States bar a political candidate from using a national platform during election season based on equal–time rules which caused the show’s early demise. The medical talk show launched in September 2009 after Oz made multiple appearances on the then long-running Oprah Winfrey-hosted talk show, “Oprah.” In the ratings, “The Good Dish” never gained any traction, most recently tying the 0.4 household rating of the reportedly canceled “Nick Cannon Show,” according to data released by TVNewsCheck for the week of February 21-25, 2022, the most recent week in which ratings are available for syndicated television. Among all of the daytime syndicated talk shows, “Good Dish” barely performed higher than last-place finishers “The Real” (0.3 HH rating), “The Doctors” (0.2 HH rating) and reruns of the years ago canceled “Jerry Springer” (0.3 HH rating). ARTICLE: REPORT: Nick Cannon’s Talk Show Canceled After Just One Season
Nick Cannon’s foray into the daytime talk show world might soon be coming to an end just six months after the show’s debut, according to published reports. The New York Post and The Sun are both reporting that Canon’s chatfest is being canceled after just one season with a Jennifer Hudson hosted talk show becoming his replacement. Last week it was announced that the FOX Television Stations group, which makes up the bulk of Cannon’s stations across the country, had picked up Hudson’s show for a fall 2022 launch. With mixed reviews and paltry ratings, the show’s demise isn’t surprising. According to TVNewsCheck, “Nick Cannon” continued to average a 0.4 rating in syndicated households during the most recent week in which ratings data is available (week of February 21-25, 2022), barely above last-place finishers “The Real” (0.3 HH rating), “The Doctors” (0.2 HH rating) and reruns of “Jerry Springer” (0.3 HH rating). “You can’t survive with those ratings. That’s Bethenny Frankle and Kris Jenner talk show rating territory- it didn’t end well for their shows either,” a source is quoted as saying to The Sun. The 0.4 rating is in line with the talk show’s performance since its September debut. While reps for Cannon and production company Debmar-Mercury issued a “No Comment” to both The Sun and The New York Post, it’s understood that staff has yet to be officially informed of the show’s cancellation even though there’s been writing on the wall for some time with the show’s season-long struggle ratings. In fact, the Post indicates some staff was “already looking for new jobs because the outlook seemed bleak.” One reason being cited for the talk show’s less than stellar performance is the absence of Wendy Williams whose own talk show was canceled last month, albeit for different reasons. “He was relying on Wendy to give his new show a huge lead-in audience,” an unnamed source told The Sun. “His new show follows her- and it’s the same producers. The pressure is on him to get ratings- and without a huge lead-in, he’s dead.” While an official announcement has yet to be made, it’s understood that the show will finish out the remainder of its first season which is set to conclude later this year. ARTICLE: ‘General Hospital’ Alum Briana Nicole Henry Announces Birth of First Child
Former “General Hospital” star Briana Nicole Henry (ex-Jordan Ashford) and husband Kris Bowers welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Coda, on Monday, February 28, the couple announced yesterday. Sharing an image of herself still visibly pregnant followed by another image of a faceless Coda, Henry said on Instagram, “You have introduced me to my favorite version of myself. Thanks for making the journey here with me little one. Welcome my Coda, I love you endlessly.” Henry also posted a message to her husband which said, “Thank you for reminding me of my power throughout this entire process. I love you. Lucky us.” The message was followed by a quote by Yrsa Daley Ward which read, “Now, what better mirror than a daughter? What better light-bouncing, persistent, challenging call back into your own body? What better rage against the fear of existing and ending, than the ever-running practice of love and vulnerability? What more pertinent affirmation, what more blessed reminder of the things I came into the world knowing, and somehow lost along the way? Love is always asking for things, making space for more. What an invitation to strength, by way of intentional tenderness.” In his message to his wife, Bowers said, “Thank you for making us a family.” He followed it up with another quote by Daley Ward which read, “If anyone were to ask about my greatest, most exceptional work, it would be the work of becoming, the long, tremendous work of getting here. And staying here. All I can be for sure is here. And true. And my greatest reason for being here is you.” He used the hashtag “International Women’s Day” in his post which was celebrated worldwide yesterday. Several of Henry’s former “General Hospital” co-stars congratulated the couple including Finola Hughes, Josh Swickard, William Lipton, Tamara Braun, Paulina Lule, Emme Rylan, Laura Wright, Briana Lane, Marcus Coloma and many more. Also commenting were actors from other daytime soaps. Henry exited the role of Jordan Ashford on “General Hospital” in September 2021. ARTICLE: Daytime Broadcast Ratings for the Week of February 28-March 4, 2022
This week marks the final week in which we’ll be able to compare the full performance of daytime broadcast during the same time last year as figures were unavailable to Soap Opera Network throughout much of March 2021 and a portion of April 2021. Regardless, we will still be able to provide a look at each show’s performance during the comparable weeks in 2020 until we sync things back up in a few weeks. That being said, despite no sports interruptions or breaking news in play most daytime broadcast shows either lost viewers week to week or held steady during the week of February 28-March 4, 2022. “The Young and the Restless” was the only series to see any growth among Total Viewers after falling to a season low one week earlier. The soap gained +191,000 viewers week to week and another +122,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. In fact, the soap jumped from fifth place last week in Women 18-49 to place third this week, albeit with the same rating it had one week earlier (0.39). In Women 25-54, the daytime series moved up from third place to rank second among the 13 daytime broadcast shows. Week to week the show was down slightly in the demo (0.64 rating vs 0.66 rating). Seeing significant erosion week to week in Total Viewers, the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” fell to fourth place, edging “The Bold and the Beautiful” by 78,000 viewers. Compared to the same week last year, both half hours of the game show and the two half hours of “The Price is Right” were down by as little as -274,000 viewers year to year to as high as -472,000 viewers. The losses weren’t as significant for either series when compared to their 2020 figures. Gaining viewers over its performance in 2021 (+11,000) and 2020 (+33,000), respectively, “General Hospital” (2.199 million viewers) was the only daytime broadcast series to increase week to week in Women 18-49 rating (+0.02) while remaining flat in Women 25-54 (0.53 rating). Returning from a two-week hiatus one week earlier, “Days of our Lives” lost another -110,000 viewers, with just 1.629 million viewers tuning in. The last time the show attracted an audience this low was during the week of November 1-5, 2021. The soap also fell to 12th place among viewers and Women 18-49 rating, while barely holding off “GMA3: What You Need to Know” in Women 25-54 to rank 11th. The soap was down year to year in Total Viewers (-54,000) and down a heftier -267,000 viewers over its performance in 2020. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of February 28-March 4, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon. Note: Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke” which was later canceled, effective March 2020. ARTICLE: ‘Ordinary Joe’ Canceled After Just One Season by NBC
“Ordinary Joe,” NBC’s primetime drama about what life would be like depending on the choices one makes, will not be returning for a second season, reports Deadline. The series concluded its 13-episode first season on January 24 with only 1.4 million viewers tuning in and a 0.2 rating in Adults 18-49, the primary sales demo that sets advertising rates for primetime television. For the season, the show was NBC’s lowest-rated drama. Following a man named Joe Kimbreau (James Wolk) who’s forced to decide what to do with his life following his college graduation, “Ordinary Joe” told three parallel storylines that diverged from that point forward as Joe and the people around him deal with different careers, relationships and family lives, showing the unexpected ways that things change – and stay the same. But when it comes down to it, there is no “right” choice; no matter what happens, Joe’s life is always messy, exciting, tough, unpredictable … and beautiful. The series also starred Natalie Martinez, Elizabeth Lail and Charlie Barnett. Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner wrote and executive produced the series along with executive producers Matt Reeves, Adam Kassan, Rafi Crohn, Howard Klein. Adam Davidson directed and executive produced the pilot episode. “Just got official word that there will be no season two of #OrdinaryJoe,” Lerner tweeted following the news of the show’s cancellation. “Couldn’t be more proud of the writers, actors, the directors and the uber talented craftsmen and women who all came together as a family and made a truly beautiful show. Thank you all.” Watch a trailer for the series below. “Ordinary Joe” is produced by 20th Television, Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, 6th & Idaho, 3 Arts. On the Monday, March 14 episode of “The Young and the Restless” (originally scheduled to air on Friday, March 11 before an earlier preemption shifted things), Ashland Locke might find his marriage to Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) upended when his father-in-law, Victor, (Eric Braeden), presents the Newman heiress with evidence that could prove Ashland is faking his life-threatening lung cancer. In an interview featured in the current issue of TV Guide Magazine, on newsstands now, Robert Newman who portrays Ashland told the publication, “I’m not quite sure who the good guys are and who the bad guys are,” referring to the battle between his character and Victor Newman. “It’s like a fast-moving speed chess game that these two are playing, where Ashland is just trying to stay one move ahead.” Thanks to Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc), Victor is able to provide Victoria with the evidence he needs to prove Ashland has been lying to everyone which could change how Victoria feels about her husband. “In my view, Ashland’s love for Victoria is real,” Newman says, referring to his character’s feelings for Victoria. “He’s figuring out how to protect his part of the business, but I personally think he’s petrified of losing her.” In a promo for this week’s episodes, Victor is shown telling Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) that Ashland is a fraud and he needs Nate’s help in not allowing Ashland to further damage Victoria. Then, referring to her father, Victoria tells Ashland, “I’m going to fight him with everything that I’ve got.” Later, Victor yells at Victor, telling him, “You have finally crossed the line… there is no coming back from this!” Watch the promo for “The Young and the Restless” below. General Hospital March 2022 Discussion Thread
Frank and his knack for budgeting is definitely the reason. The budget is also pretty good considering the economics of running a soap. Considering the set was used for three purposes, and can be used for future purposes, it's a great idea to have it where characters can socialize with each other. The team at GH is solid despite gripes about the writing and the bloated cast.

ARTICLE: Sydney Mikayla to Exit ‘General Hospital’ as Trina Robinson, Role Recast with Daytime Newcomer Tabyana Ali
After requesting to be placed on recurring status last fall, “General Hospital” actress Sydney Mikayla has now decided to leave the daytime drama series completely in order to concentrate full-time on her academics. Her last airdate is set for Thursday, March 17 with her role as Trina Robinson being recast with daytime newcomer Tabyana Ali who will make her debut later this month. “Sydney asked to leave in order to focus on college. We love her and are sad to see her go, but of course support her decision and wish her the best,” said Frank Valentini, the show’s executive producer, in a statement to Soap Opera Digest. As for Ali, Valentini says, “We’re excited to welcome Tabyana Ali and see what she’ll do with the role of Trina.” “I have loved working on ‘General Hospital,’ but I feel like this is the right time to dive in and enjoy my college experience to the fullest,” said Mikayla to Digest. “The cast has become family and bringing the character of Trina to life has been one of the best experiences of my career thus far. Thank you to Frank and the entire team for believing in me and giving me this wonderful opportunity. I will miss working with everyone every day, but I am excited to see what is to come for the show.” Last May, Mikayla announced she had decided to attend the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) after receiving offers from the likes of Howard University, LMU, Pace University, and Texas State University, among others. In total, Mikayla received 14 acceptance letters from the colleges and universities she applied to. Mikayla joined the cast of “General Hospital” in June 2017.
