ARTICLE: ‘The Villains of Valley View’ Premieres Low on Disney Channel
The new Disney Channel original series co-starring “General Hospital” actor James Patrick Stuart as a father whose family has to uproot their lives and change identities when his daughter, Havoc/Amy (Isabella Pappas), stands up to the head of the League of Villains premiered to low numbers on Friday, June 3. Entitled “The Villains of Valley View,” an average of just 295,000 viewers tuned in across the show’s two-episode premiere while in Adults 18-49 the show averaged a mere 0.07 rating. Overall, the comedy ranked 70th and 83rd, respectively, in the cable ratings among Total Day figures released by Nielsen (via ShowBuzzDaily), sorted by Adults 18-49. The first episode averaged 309,000 viewers and a 0.07 rating in the demo at 8:00 p.m. followed by the second episode with 281,000 viewers and a 0.06 rating. Following “The Villains of Valley View” was the two-episode premiere of “Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion,” which follows Mexican American teen Violet Rodriguez (Scarlett Estevez) who is chosen by a magical luchador mask that transforms her into the superhero Ultra Violet, a superhero fighting crime alongside her luchador uncle, Cruz (J.R. Villarreal), also known as Black Scorpion. The new series ranked 102nd and 129th in Total Day cable rankings, averaging just 253,000 episodes over its two episodes with a 0.05 and a 0.04 rating, respectively, in Adults 18-49. The first episode averaged 269,000 viewers and the second episode averaged 236,000 viewers. The success of either show won’t necessarily be determined by their ratings performance on the linear network, particularly as their core demo is teens/tweens, but by how they perform when episodes become available to stream on Disney+ (date to be determined). ARTICLE: Ingo Rademacher Seeks to Quash Subpoena from ABC in Wrongful Termination Lawsuit, Jury Trial Set for February 2023
According to court documents obtained by Soap Opera Network, former “General Hospital” star Ingo Rademacher is seeking to quash a subpoena from American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. (ABC) that was issued to the Protection of the Educational Rights of Kids (PERK) organization “on the grounds that the category of requested documents violate privacy rights and are irrelevant to this action.” In a declaration submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court on May 26, 2022, attorney Scott J. Street of JW/ Howard Attorneys, Ltd, the attorneys of record for plaintiff Rademacher, stated that on April 22, 2022, the law firm was served with a notice and copy of defendant ABC’s business records subpoena issued to the “non-party” organization. “PERK, Ingo and myself have had discussions about this case – more specifically, in preparing for the litigation of this case. All discussions occurred with me or at my direction,” Street said in his declaration. “These discussions and documents provided to PERK, if any, were private and confidential and are protected from disclosure by the attorney-client privilege and work product doctrine. Our firm is serving ABC with written objections to the subpoena on that basis.” In the request to quash it stated, “it is not hard to appreciate that ABC’s subpoena – seeking confidential communications and attorney work product between Ingo, Ingo’s counsel and a speculated litigation funder – does nothing to prove Ingo’s claims or ABC’s defenses. The subpoena is merely ABC’s campaign of intimidation to harass and pressure Ingo to drop the case against them. As an ill-fated means of garnering litigation leverage in this action, ABC has set about to intentionally harass every single person that Ingo may have spoken to in the last five years to destroy Ingo’s character and ascertain how someone could afford to bring such a case against ABC. Apparently, ABC hopes to resolve this action by intimidating Ingo and asserting its power as the ‘big-pocket’ litigator that can crush Ingo’s ability to litigate this case.” The motion further states, “ABC refused to mediate this case – a fact which evidences the true nature of this subpoena. It cannot allege it is seeking financial information for purposes of settlement, in part because its wholly irrelevant, but also because that is a ruse evidenced by ABC’s own actions. ABC is not entitled to sensitive, private information that is irrelevant to Ingo’s allegations concerning privacy rights and unlawful discrimination, though a subpoena or otherwise. ABC is also not entitled to know whether any person or entity is financing this litigation, if at all. It is apparent that the information is designed solely to harass as it has no relevancy to this action. The subpoena should be quashed.” A hearing is set for Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. or as soon thereafter. According to a memorandum of points and authorities included in the motion regarding his reasoning behind his decision to sue ABC, “[Rademacher] filed this action alleging violations of his privacy rights, unlawful religious and medical condition discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination” following ABC’s decision in summer 2021 to order anybody working on a television show it produced to get a Covid-19 vaccination. “That meant, Ingo, as a cast member of the ABC-produced soap opera, ‘General Hospital,’ which he had been a cast member for 25 years, was required to receive a Covid-19 shot to continue working on the show or request a religious exemption,” the suit says. “Although ABC claimed to grant exemptions for sincerely held religious objections to the shot, it refused to accept Ingo’s request – without explanation. ABC then terminated Ingo’s contract to perform.” In November 2021, it was announced that Rademacher would be exiting his role as Jasper “Jax” Jacks on the ABC drama after failing to comply with the company’s vaccine mandate for employees. He last appeared on the soap on Monday, November 22, 2021, when the character departed Port Charles for Australia on important business. A jury trial is currently on the docket for Monday, February 27, 2023. Congratulations are in order for former “All My Children” and “Days of our Lives” actress turned reality TV starlet Chrishell Stause who won the Best Reality Star award at the 2022 “MTV Movie & TV Awards” which aired Sunday, June 5 on MTV. Her Netflix series, “Selling Sunset,” won Best Docu-Reality Show. In her acceptance speech, Stause thanked the show’s executive producer, Adam DiVello, Netflix, the show’s cast and MTV, among others. She said, “[Without] the whole cast I wouldn’t be standing here… you can’t do a reality show without every single person that makes it work, so, thank you guys so much! And just really quick, I knew about this nomination before I had said anything about my sexuality – I’m not trying to get really deep with you guys, but the fact that this was voted on after means so much to me because I wasn’t sure, you know, how that was going to go, and I thank you guys so much. I appreciate it.” In early May, Stause revealed she’s dating G Flip, a non-binary Australian singer. Calling them “an extremely talented musician,” Stause stated, “I recently have been spending a lot of time with someone that’s very important to me. Their name is G Flip. They’re nonbinary, so they go by they/them.” Prior to her relationship with G Flip, Stause had been dating her “Selling Sunset” boss/co-star Jason Oppenheim and had been married to former “This Is Us” and “The Young and the Restless” actor Justin Hartley. “I. AM. SO. HONORED!!!” Stause later said on Twitter after winning her award. “Truly thank you to everyone that voted and thank you so much @MTV & @netflix.” To watch Stause’s acceptance speech, click the play button below. ARTICLE: Josh Kelly Reveals How a Text Exchange with ‘General Hospital’ EP Frank Valentini Led to a Contract Role
Josh Kelly made his “General Hospital” debut as Cody Bell at the tail end of the Wednesday, June 1 episode of the daytime drama series when the character parachuted into the Metro Court Hotel pool, making a memorable impression on Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud). So how did the former “Midnight, Texas” star land himself a gig in Port Charles? Similar to co-star Cameron Mathison who joined the soap last year as a recast Drew Cain, a text exchange with the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, who previously oversaw production at “One Life to Live” where Kelly moonlighted as Cutter Wentworth from 2010-2011, made things a little easier for the actor. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands now, Kelly told the publication that he began thinking about a return to daytime soaps after hearing from a friend who had auditioned for a character on the soap last year. “He was like, ‘Dude, you should go in for this role,’” Kelly remembers of the conversation without naming the friend or the character they auditioned for. “And I was like, ‘You know what? I miss working regularly.” Thus, he decided to reach out to Valentini after realizing he wanted a more steady gig that would keep him in the Los Angeles area where he resides. “I’ve had to go to Memphis or Albuquerque or Atlanta [to film on location] and I love traveling, but my home is in Los Angeles and I’ve never gotten to work here,” Kelly says. “I also missed being part of a little acting troupe family. So I actually texted [Executive Producer] Frank Valentini. I was like, ‘Hey, why am I not on ‘GH?’” Recalling their exchange, Kelly notes, “He was like, ‘Are you serious? You’d have to do a contract.’ And I was like, ‘Let’s do it!’ They were like, ‘We’re going to come up with a cool character for you’ – and they did!’” Referencing Valentini’s enthusiasm for working with him again, Kelly says, “It meant a lot to me. I’d always felt like I wanted to do more [in daytime]. ‘One Life to Live’ was canceled kind of right when I was getting my legs underneath me and getting into my stride. So this, in a weird way, feels like I’m fulfilling my original contract. Frank and I, we’ve kept in touch and I’ve actually visited the set of ‘GH’ a couple of times because I’ve had some friends working there, and I did some work on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and they shoot at the same lot. Whenever I’m over there, I always send him a text message and I’d come in and we’d talk, but the timing [to possibly join ‘GH’] has never been right. And now the timing seems kind of perfect.” Despite acting on “GH” for the first time, Kelly has personally known or is friends with a number of the show’s cast, including Michael Easton (Finn) and Roger Howarth (Austin) who Kelly worked alongside during their time together at “OLTL,” and he’s worked with both Tanisha Harper (Jordan) and Sofia Mattsson (Sasha) in other TV projects. Additionally, he has mutual friends with Chad Duell (Michael) and he shared a meal years ago with Kirsten Storms (Maxie), just to name a few. Beyond that, Kelly has also been a fan of the show since childhood when his sister would force him into watching the soap before he could eventually watch his favorite “Batman” cartoon. He also noted that when his father was in the Navy, his squadron was “addicted to the Luke and Laura saga.” Overall, Kelly is appreciative of what it means to be working on the legacy series. “I always like to think about what ‘little kid Josh’ would think in the moment,” he states. “It keeps me very happy on long days or times like last night, when I was late to a premiere for a movie I was in because I was working on ‘General freakin’ Hospital!’ ‘Little kid Josh’ wouldn’t be upset about that, and so ‘big kid Josh’ wasn’t, either!” For more from Kelly’s interview with Digest, pick up the latest issue, on newsstands now. In addition to his role on “GH,” and his previous role as Cutter Wentworth on both the ABC version of “One Life to Live” and the short-lived 2013 online reboot, Kelly has also starred as Jeremy Caner in the Lifetime drama “UnREAL.” More recently, Kelly appeared in the dramas “What/If,” “Army Wives” and cross-over episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Station 19.” He also starred opposite Emilie Ullerup in the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries original movie “Christmas Bells Are Ringing.” Note: The post Josh Kelly Reveals How a Text Exchange with ‘General Hospital’ EP Frank Valentini Led to a Contract Role appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: Tanner Novlan to Guest on ‘BOLD Live’ (UPDATED)
Now that Finn has been revealed to be very much alive after viewers of “The Bold and the Beautiful” were initially led to believe that the character had died following his being shot by his biological mother, Sheila (Kimberlin Brown), portrayer Tanner Novlan will be on hand to discuss his return to the soap during the Wednesday, June 8 broadcast of “BOLD Live" airing at 2:00 p.m. ET/11:00 a.m. PT on YouTube. The episode was originally scheduled to air live on Friday, June 3. Hosted by the soap’s supervising producer Casey Kasprzyk, the weekly YouTube series which regularly airs every Friday at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT is the only official talk show that gives fans of “The Bold and the Beautiful” the opportunity to consistently interact with their favorite actors by way of picking up the phone, dialing a number and talking to them live on air. The show airs live from Television City in Los Angeles where “B&B” tapes. In early April, Finn was shot after he came upon Sheila as she was preparing to shoot his wife, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), who herself was confronting Sheila over her involvement in breaking Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) sobriety. Begging for her life, Steffy didn’t have time to mourn her presumed-dead husband as Sheila also shot her, leaving the couple laying in a pool of their own blood in an alleyway. Steffy has since recovered and Sheila is in jail pending trial. Except for Finn’s adopted mother, Li (Naomi Matsuda), and those she trusts, it’s not yet known, particularly by Steffy, that Finn is still alive. Steffy recently made plans to leave town in order to clear her mind following recent events. To set yourself a reminder to tune in to “BOLD Live,” click here. The rerun was included in the show’s weekly average. With several preemptions impacting its airing schedule due to ongoing NBC News coverage from Uvalde, Texas, “Days of our Lives” (1.593 million) saw the biggest week-to-week drop of any daytime broadcast series, down -164,000 viewers, and fell behind both “GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “The Talk” in Total Viewers. Comparable 2020 figures for “General Hospital” will return in August as the show aired reruns for most of the summer that year and was not rated (NR) by Nielsen. Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know.” The current iteration was rebranded effective June 2020. ARTICLE: Daytime Broadcast Ratings for the Week of May 16-20, 2022
“The Price is Right” (3.881 million / 4.409 million), the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.771 million) and “Days of our Lives” (1.757 million) were the standout performers for the week of May 16-20, 2022, according to newly released figures from Nielsen as they were the only daytime broadcast shows to see improvement among Total Viewers week to week. Overall, with the exception of “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” whose numbers were not available among Total Viewers at press time, almost every daytime broadcast series was up year to year in the category and were mostly stable year to year in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating. For the week, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.181 million) fell down to earth a bit from the prior week’s season-high, but the series still managed to attract its third-largest audience for the 2021-2022 television season and the third-largest overall since the week of April 20-24, 2020, the final week of originals aired pre-pandemic. The soap tied for second place in Women 18-49 with the first half-hour of “The Price is Right,” “The Young and the Restless” (3.503 million) and “TODAY 3rd Hour,” each with a 0.4 rating. In Women 25-54, the drama series tied for second place with its sister soap and the first half-hour of the CBS game show, each with a 0.7 rating, the same as last week. Compared to the same week last year, “The Bold and the Beautiful” was up +529,000 viewers, the most of any daytime broadcast series among Total Viewers. Compared to its performance in 2020 when it aired its fourth week of classic episodes (reruns), the soap is up +1.455 million viewers, again the most of any daytime broadcast series. “The Young and the Restless” gained viewers compared to the same week last year, up +286,000 viewers and gained +1.379 million viewers over its comparable fourth week of classic episodes (reruns) in 2020. “General Hospital” (2.244 million) topped “The View” (2.193 million) among Total Viewers for the first time since the week of September 20-24, 2021, the first full week of the 2021-2022 television season, making it ABC’s most-watched daytime series for the week. Compared to the same week last year, the daytime drama was up +145,000 viewers and was up +74,000 viewers over its performance in 2020, which marked the show’s final week of pre-pandemic originals. “The View,” however, was down year to year (-95,000 viewers) and was the only daytime broadcast series to experience year to year losses. “Days of our Lives” was not only up week to week in Total Viewers (+11,000), the show was up +144,000 viewers over its performance during the same week last year. Noteworthy is how the show performed in Households. While it’s held a 1.2 for several weeks, its “6” share in the category is one the highest the show has experienced all season. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of May 16-20, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted soon. Notes: Viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs in 2020 during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19. “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” began their months-long era of classic episodes which continued through late July 2020 and early August 2020, respectively. Comparable 2020 figures for “GMA3: What Need to Know” are based on the performance of “Pandemic: What You Need to Know.” The current iteration was rebranded effective June 2020. ARTICLE: ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Hits Yet Another New Season High in Total Viewers, New Best Since Pre-Pandemic Originals
For the third time in six weeks, CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” hit yet another new season-high in Total Viewers during the week of May 9-13, 2022 according to newly released figures from Nielsen Media Research and marking the show’s most-watched week overall since the week of April 20-24, 2020, the final week of pre-pandemic originals. The half-hour drama series averaged 3.320 million viewers, up +212,000 viewers week to week and up +515,000 viewers over the comparable week last year (week of May 10-14, 2021). In fact, just 205,000 viewers separated the soap from its lead-in, “The Young and the Restless” (3.525 million), marking the smallest gap between the two shows among viewers since at least the week of October 5-9, 2020. Among Women 25-54, “B&B” ranked first for the week with a 0.7 rating, tied with the second half-hour of “The Price is Right” (4.393 million) and “Y&R.” The soap tied for second place in Women 18-49 with a 0.4 rating, tied with the first half-hour of “The Price is Right” (3.842 million), “Y&R,” “TODAY 3rd Hour” (1.974 million) and “General Hospital” (2.268 million). Powering the soap was the revelation by others that Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) was behind the shooting death of her son, Finn (Tanner Novlan), and the attempted murder of her daughter-in-law, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) – Sheila shot both after they learned she was behind the switcheroo that led Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) into breaking her sobriety as Sheila placed a non-alcoholic beverage label over an alcohol-infused bottle of champagne. Up +1.523 million viewers over its comparable week’s performance in 2020 (week of May 11-15, 2020), when it aired its third consecutive week of classic episodes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic production shutdown, “B&B” remains one of only three daytime broadcast shows to see similar or improved numbers over its Total Viewers performance prior to or during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Y&R” and “General Hospital” (2.268 million) were the other two series to see their numbers grow or stabilize during the same period. Check back soon for a full look at how daytime broadcast performed during the week of May 9-13, 2022. ARTICLE: INTERVIEW: Chandler Massey Gets to the ‘Heart of the Matter’
Agreed. There wasn't a need for some loving boyfriend and son situation outside of the convenience of why she didn't take Henry's calls the night he died. I still don't get why Henry can drive but couldn't have the concept of him calling 911 as a solution during his time of need. I understand that it's due to his not being able to adapt well to strangers but the same strangers would be the people he'd meet at the hospital, so... I understand the reasoning for script purposes but I don't get it from my perspective. I guess I just have to "get" that Henry's thought process isn't like my own due to the intellectual disability.
