ARTICLE: ‘Promised Land’ Canceled After One Season by ABC
Following the cancellation of “Queens,” ABC has also decided against ordering a second season of “Promised Land,” a drama series that told the story of two Latin families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley. The series aired just five episodes since it premiered as a midseason replacement in January before it was pulled off the network’s schedule leaving its remaining episodes to air exclusively on Hulu. Over its first four airings, the series averaged a paltry 1.719 million viewers with a 0.19 rating in Adults 18-49 and a 0.30 rating in Adults 25-54, the two primary sales demos used to set primetime television advertising rates, according to Live+Same Day viewing figures released via ShowBuzzDaily. Factoring in delayed viewers (Live+7) over its first three episodes, the series average bumps up to just 2.9 million viewers and a 0.3 in Adults 18-49. Compared to ABC’s other dramas, “Promised Land” only performed better than “Queens” in Total Viewers while ranking last in the demo. Despite it being pulled by ABC, the show remained in production as it was allowed to complete its 10-episode order. The series starred John Ortiz as Joe Sandoval, Cecilia Suárez as Lettie Sandoval, Augusto Aguilera as Mateo, Christina Ochoa as Veronica Sandoval, Mariel Molino as Carmen Sandoval, Tonatiuh as Antonio Sandoval, Andres Velez as Carlos, Katya Martín as Juana and Rolando Chusan as Billy and Bellamy Young as Margaret Honeycroft. The show is written and executive produced by Matt Lopez. Adam Kolbrenner and Maggie Malina also serve as executive producers. Executive producer Michael Cuesta also directs. The series is produced by ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios. Note: The post ‘Promised Land’ Canceled After One Season by ABC appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: ‘Queens’ Canceled After One Season by ABC
ABC has decided against a second season for “Queens,” a freshman drama that follows a hip hop group who reunite decades after their ‘90s peak. The series starred Eve, Naturi Naughton, Nadine Velazquez and Brandy as women in their 40s who work to recapture their fame, fortune and swagger. Airing just 13 episodes, the show concluded its freshman season in February with an anemic 1.071 million viewers, a 0.20 rating in Adults 18-49 and a 0.29 rating in Adults 25-54, according to broadcast finals released by ShowBuzzDaily. In the demos, the series finale managed to top only repeat airings of dramas “Superman & Lois” and “Naomi” on The CW .In the show’s finale episode, entitled “2022,” the Queens prepared to be inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame but they couldn’t help notice the void Brianna’s (Eve) absence from the group had left. Meanwhile, Naomi (Brandy) was waylaid when an old beau questioned JoJo’s (Precious Way; “Days of our Lives”) paternity. Elsewhere, Valeria (Velazquez) got ready to embark on a solo tour and wondered if she really was ready to go at it alone. ARTICLE: DAYTIME EMMYS: NATAS Updates ‘Days of our Lives’ and ‘Beyond Salem’ Nomination Totals
EXCLUSIVE: Following an inquiry by Soap Opera Network, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) will be updating the Daytime Emmy nomination totals for “Days of our Lives” and its spinoff “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.” Previously, the organization announced that the mothership series had received 11 nominations while the spinoff series had three. The update will reflect that “DAYS” now has 12 nominations while “Beyond Salem” has four. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences In Thursday’s nominations announcement for “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” there was confusion regarding the combined nomination for the two shows in the Outstanding Casting category which lists the two as a single nominee (“Days of our Lives / Beyond Salem NBC | Peacock”) in literature. In the three other three categories in which the shows are competing against each other (Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, Writing Team and Directing Team) the two are listed separately. We’re told this was an administrative decision based on the rules for each category. Further, in categories where entrants were allowed to submit a full episode (e.g. Series, Writing, Directing), “Beyond Salem” was allowed to separately enter. However, in categories where entrants submit a reel consisting of highlighted scenes from the year, “DAYS” had the option to include material from “Beyond Salem” on the same reel because it’s the same production team. The option was extended to other craft categories but Casting was the only one where it received a nomination in such a format. In correcting the matter, it’s understood that only the total number of Emmy nominations received by the two shows will be updated but no changes will be made in the literature, and the number of nominees in the category will not be increased. Instead, should the category result in a win, the statue will be engraved as “Days of our Lives / Beyond Salem NBC | Peacock.” The inclusion of “Beyond Salem” in any category marks the first time since 2014 that there are more than four daytime dramas competing, specifically in the category of Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. In fact, for the first time ever, a television series will be vying against its spinoff in the category, NATAS noted in yesterday’s release. The last spinoff series to receive a nomination in the category was “Port Charles,” a spinoff of “General Hospital,” in 2003. “GH” was not nominated that year while “As The World Turns” took home the gold. Outside of the aforementioned categories, “Days of our Lives” was honored with eight other nominations, including seven in the acting categories and a nomination for Live Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. Actor John Aniston who has portrayed the iconic role of Victor Kiriakis on the NBC series since 1985 will be the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Photo by Chris Haston/NBC Stars Eric Martsolf and James Reynolds are nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor. In 2014, Martsolf won a Daytime Emmy for his portrayal of Brady Black on the soap but in the Supporting Actor category. He previously received a nomination in 2019 in the same category. Meanwhile, in 2018, Reynolds won in the Lead Actor category for his portrayal of Abe Carver. He was previously nominated for the role in 2004 and 2017 but in the category of Supporting Actor. He received his first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination in 1991 for his portrayal of Henry Marshall on the NBC soap “Generations.” Receiving her fifth Daytime Emmy nomination overall, Arianne Zucker and co-star Marci Miller are nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress. Zucker was previously nominated in the Lead Actress category in 2014 and 2020 for her portrayal of Nicole Walker. She also received nominations in 2010 and 2013 but in the Supporting Actress category. Miller was previously nominated in the Lead Actress category in 2018 and 2019, respectively, for her portrayal of Abigail Deveraux DiMera. This is her third nomination overall. Stacy Haiduk received her second-ever Daytime Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress for her portrayal as Kirsten DiMera on the soap. She was previously nominated in 2017 in the same category for her portrayal of Patty Williams on “The Young and the Restless.” Lindsay Arnold received her first-ever Daytime Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series. She joined the series in 2020 as Allie Horton, daughter of Samantha Brady DiMera (Alison Sweeney) and Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo). Despite appearing in multiple daytime dramas throughout his career, including “All My Children,” “As The World Turns” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” this year marks the first time ever actor Michael Lowry is nominated for playing a role on a broadcast series. He’s up for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series for his portrayal of Dr. Clay Snyder. In 2017, he received a nomination in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Digital Daytime Drama Series for his role as Jordan Bradford in “Tainted Dreams.” Note: The post NATAS to Update ‘Days of our Lives’ and ‘Beyond Salem’ Daytime Emmy Nomination Totals appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: DAYTIME EMMYS: African American Nominees in Lead Categories, Five Shows Nominated for Drama
With today’s nominations announcement for “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” there were a couple of notable details pointed out by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the organization behind the Daytime Emmy Awards. For the first time since 2012, there were African American nominees in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series: Actor and Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series: Actress categories, and for the first time since 2014, there were five nominees in the category of Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. James Reynolds is nominated for his performance as Abe Carver on “Days of our Lives.” He previously won the award in 2018 in the same category after four nominations. Meanwhile, Mishael Morgan is nominated for her performance as Amanda Sinclair on “The Young and the Restless.” She was previously nominated in 2018 and 2019 in the Supporting Actress category and for her previous role as Hilary Curtis on the daytime drama series. The last time there were two African American nominees in the lead acting categories was in 2012 when “All My Children” stars Darnell Williams and Debbi Morgan were up for their portrayals as Jesse Hubbard and Angela Hubbard, respectively. Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer, “General Hospital”) and Heather Tom (Katie Logan, “The Bold and the Beautiful”) won that year. Courtesy of CBS Joining perennial Outstanding Daytime Drama Series nominees this year is Peacock’s “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem,” marking the first time since 2014 that more than four shows were nominated in the category. The five-episode series spinoff of “Days of our Lives” was recently renewed for a second season which debuts in July on the streaming service. Also nominated in the category this year are “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of our Lives,” “General Hospital” and “The Young and the Restless.” This year marks the first time in history that a television series (“Days of our Lives”) will be vying against its spinoff (“Beyond Salem”) in the category of Outstanding Daytime Drama Series. “Port Charles,” a spinoff of “General Hospital,” was the last expansion series to be nominated in this category in 2003. “General Hospital” was not nominated, however. “As The World Turns” won the award that year. “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” will be broadcast live on Friday, June 24 at 9:00 p.m. ET (delayed PT) on CBS from the Pasadena Civic Center in Los Angeles. ARTICLE: Nominations Announced for ‘The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards’
So, the Emmys officially notes that DAYS: Beyond Salem has three nominations but that is incorrect. Technically, it's four. For whatever reason, Casting is listed for DAYS and Beyond Salem as the same nomination since the casting team was the same. However, the writing and directing team for Beyond Salem was the same for DAYS as well and they got separate noms. Also, in some portions of the release they indicate the categories as Outstanding ___ in a Daytime Drama Series while in others they list it as Outstanding ___ in a Drama Series. In fact, they say Best Daytime Drama when noting the DOOL/Beyond Salem head-to-head nomination. I call that sloppiness.

ARTICLE: ‘The Flight Attendant’ Star Kaley Cuoco Announces She’s Dating Soap Alum Tom Pelphrey
In a series of photos posted to Instagram and her Instagram stories, “The Big Bang Theory” and “The Flight Attendant” star Kaley Cuoco announced that she is dating former “Guiding Light” and “Ozark” star Tom Pelphrey. In the caption of her post, Cuoco says, “The sun breaks through the clouds, rays of gold slipping into my eyes and heart, rays of yellow to break the grey.” She included a heart emoji along with an evergreen tree, paw prints, and a reference to being dizzy as she referenced a new relationship with Pelphrey, and living life surrounded by nature and her dog. Pelphrey also posted about the relationship, using a quote from January 2004 by Noah’s Wall, which states, “But nothing can save you. Not your friends, not the best Fred Astaire musical you’ve ever seen- the grace of it, not your mother’s beauty, not a line from a letter you find at the bottom of a drawer, not a magazine or the next day. Nothing can save you. And you stand in the moonlight and a sweetness comes off the top of the trees, and the fence around the yard seals you off from the dark and you can’t breathe. It is all so familiar and possible. It is too simple that there is this much good in the world and you don’t know how to have it. And it makes you wonder when it was you lost your place. Then you catch a breeze, so warm and ripe, it makes you hope that someone will come who also cannot save you, but who will think you are worth saving.” In an Instagram story, Cuoco posted a selfie of herself and Pelphrey in what appears to be their bed. She captioned the post with “this man” while tagging Pelphrey in the post. Pelphrey is best known to soap fans for his role as Jonathan Randall on “Guiding Light” from 2003-2009, and as Mick Dante on “As The World Turns” from 2009-2010. He played Ben Davis in the third season of the Netflix series “Ozark.” Cuoco can currently be seen as Cassie Bowden in the HBO Max series “The Flight Attendant.” She previously portrayed Penny Hofstadter in the sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” from 2007-2019. ARTICLE: Steve Burton Announces Separation from Wife
We don't know if this possibly caused the separation, so we don't know. It sounds harsh but what he said is exactly what was necessary. Had it been announced they were separated and then she revealed she was pregnant, things would be different. It happened to opposite way, however. His kids are his family. His wife's kid is not, despite their kids having a new half sibling (from the mother's side).

ARTICLE: Steve Burton Announces Separation from Wife
I disagree. She announced she was expecting her fourth child on social media. As the father of their three other children, people automatically started congratulating him on social media, and possibly through texts/phone calls. He had to clear up that it wasn't his child. It sounds crazy but he did exactly what had to be done. Asking for privacy is also understandable. He's just saying don't ask me to say anything further and respect his right to not saying anything more than necessary.

ARTICLE: Sharon Osbourne Reveals “Why I Was Fired from The Talk” and Shares Intimate Details from Behind the Scenes at CBS
Appearing last week on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” the new talk series hosted by Piers Morgan on the rebranded TalkTV in the U.K., Sharon Osbourne sat down with Morgan to discuss her ouster from the CBS talk show last year. In their conversation, Morgan noted that Osbourne never said she agreed with what he said around the time, specifically his comments in reference to Meghan Markle and her appearance with husband Prince Harry on an Oprah Winfrey special that shed light on alleged racism within the Royal family. “My whole point was that you are a journalist and a celebrity, so, therefore, you’re paid to give your opinion – the same as I was paid to give my opinion. That’s why we’re there. And freedom of speech,” Osbourne told Morgan. After she was asked if she ever thought that within days of her supporting Morgan that she would have thought she’d be out of a job after working at “The Talk” for 10 years, Osbourne corrected Morgan, saying, “I was actually in my 11th year. I never thought in my wildest dreams that my career, after 50 years, would have ended that way. Did I want my legacy to be I was fired because accused of being a racist?” Asked if the experience ever scared her, Osbourne shared, “I don’t scare easily, you know that, but some of the comments that were coming through on my social media was so horrific about cutting my throat, my husband’s, even the dogs – they wanted to kill my dogs – and then they started on Ozzy, on his site and then my kids, and I just thought, ‘This is just insanity.’” She added, “I went back to CBS and I said, ‘Not only can I not earn a living but now I have to have 24-hour security because of you,’ and they go like, ‘So, what?’” Osbourne further told Morgan that as a result of the dustup with her co-hosts on the daytime talk show, the phone stopped ringing in terms of endorsements, charities she was involved with, and other job prospects and opportunities. “The phone never rang. That was it. You are untouchable,” she said of what happened. Morgan then brought up “Cancel Culture” and how there are those who doubt its existence. “What makes me so mad is I’m in a blessed situation that no matter what happens to my career my husband will always take care of me, but what happens to a person that, you know, say I didn’t have a husband but then I had kids to bring up, right. What happens to people like that who are canceled or fired because they’ve used the wrong term or something’s taken out of context and they’re fired. To the average person, what happens to that person?” Photo by Monty Brinton/CBS As for whether or not she’s kept in touch with Sheryl Underwood, who remains on the CBS panel even today, particularly whether Osbourne ever apologized to Underwood, Osbourne said she reached out to Underwood but didn’t receive any direct acknowledgment from her. “I sent her three texts of apologies and she never got back, and then she went onto national TV and said that I hadn’t apologized. So, what I did was, I actually on my social media printed the texts, and then she said, ‘Well that’s not an apology because I want it in a phone call and she never called me.’” Morgan was aghast, wondering what she ever had to apologize for, saying the experience was incredibly tough for Osbourne but thankfully she had her family to support her. “It was tough for me and it did affect me mentally,” said Osbourne. “It honestly did because after everything that I’ve felt, all my dreams I had achieved. Everything that I’ve wanted to do I had achieved and did I want my legacy for my family to be, ‘Oh, well, your nana was on television but everybody said she was a racist so she never went on television again. And that kind of ate me up. I must have cried for three months.” Courtesy of TalkTV Osbourne then revealed that the show’s creator, former executive producer, and co-host Sara Gilbert helped her get through it by telling Osbourne she needed help and that she needed to go somewhere, recommending somewhere (not revealed in conversation), and “then I was doing therapy and ketamine treatment.” Morgan asked Osbourne if she was ever suicidal at any point after things went down, to which Osbourne stated, “I didn’t want to give CBS the satisfaction.” Osbourne is now co-hosting a U.K. version of a show aptly titled “The Talk” on TalkTV but recently had to fly back to Los Angeles to take care of her husband, Ozzy, who was recently diagnosed with COVID-19.
