  1. Due to recent scheduling conflicts, the weekly Daytime Broadcast ratings reports have been delayed. Regular postings will return today, Tuesday, July 26. In the meantime, we continue to post the previous week’s ratings. Here are the numbers for the week of July 4-8, 2022. With the Independence Day (Monday, July 4) holiday falling on a weekday, nearly every daytime broadcast series was coded as a special with the exception of “The Price is Right,” “Let’s Make a Deal,” “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” which had the date included in their weekly averages. In the case of “Deal,” ratings for each half hour were combined into a one-hour show. Here’s a breakdown of how daytime broadcast performed in the key sales demos on Independence Day, sorted by Women 25-54 rating. In fact, the second half-hour was also up +19,000 viewers over the year ago week. After attracting its lowest overall audience since the week of August 17-21, 2020, “General Hospital” (2.060 million) had the second largest week to week gain among Total Viewers, up +154,000 from the previous week. 2. On the Tuesday, July 26 episode of “The Talk,” co-host Natalie Morales announced that beginning next month she will be joining “The Young and the Restless” in the recurring role of Talia Morgan, an investigative reporter looking into Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). Her first airdate is set for Wednesday, August 17. “I have some exciting news to share!” said Morales as she began making the surprise announcement. “Starting next month I have a little role; well it’s a recurring role on the CBS Daytime drama ‘The Young and the Restless.’ I am playing investigative reporter Talia Morgan, yes, and I’m investigating Diane Jenkins, played by Susan Walters. You know she’s the one who faked her own death. She’s returned recently to Genoa City after just being gone for 10 years. It’s going to be a lot of fun.” When asked by fellow co-host Sheryl Underwood who she’ll be playing opposite on the soap, Morales noted that in addition to Walters she’ll also share scenes with Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers), among others. “I’m having so much fun. These ladies are incredible,” said Morales of the experience thus far. Of the current co-hosts of “The Talk,” Morales joins Underwood and Akbar Gbajabiamila who have also appeared on CBS daytime dramas. Underwood, a big fan of daytime soap operas, most recently appeared on “The Bold and the Beautiful” as Emmy, a role she first portrayed in 2016; and she also had two roles on “Y&R” from 2012 and 2013. Earlier this year, Gbajabiamila appeared in two episodes of “B&B” as Max, a Forrester Creations executive. In addition to “Y&R,” Morales has also appeared in episodes of several television shows and movies, although this will be the first time since 2011’s “Los Herederos del Monte” in which she’ll be playing someone other than herself. Check out Morales’ full announcement in the clip below. 3. Due to recent scheduling conflicts, the weekly Daytime Broadcast ratings reports have been delayed. We will be getting back on schedule with postings on Tuesday afternoons (Wednesdays/Thursdays when considering holiday weeks) beginning next week. In the meantime, here are the Daytime Broadcast ratings for the week of June 27-July 1, 2022 with the weeks of July 4-8, 2022 and July 11-15, 2022 soon to follow. For the week, “The Young and the Restless” (3.300 million) and the second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.656 million) saw the most significant week to week gains, up +252,000 and +200,000 viewers, respectively. The first half hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” was down a mere -3,000 viewers. Meanwhile, compared to the same week last year, except for “Days of our Lives” (1.585 million) and “The Talk” (1.399 million), all the other daytime broadcast shows were down with rerun ridden “The Price is Right” (3.688 million / 4.210 million) and “Let’s Make a Deal” falling the most year to year. “General Hospital” (1.906 million) saw its least-watched week among Total Viewers of the 2021-2022 television season and its lowest week overall since the week of August 17-21, 2020. The show’s numbers fell primarily due to the Friday, July 1 broadcast which attracted the second lowest demos across daytime broadcast for the day, behind only “The Talk” (0.13 rating in Women 18-49; 0.23 rating in Women 25-54). In fact, lead-in “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.493 million) managed to outperform the drama series in both Women 18-49 (0.20 vs 0.16 rating) and Women 25-54 (0.30 vs 0.26 rating) for the day. 4. The second chapter of “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” debuted with the first of five all-new episodes on Monday, July 11, and with today’s release of the show’s fifth and final episode of the season, multi-Emmy Award-winning composers D. Brent Nelson and Ken Corday have unveiled a 44-minute score soundtrack in support of the popular daytime spinoff series which is available now across all digital platforms, including Apple Music. Corday is the executive producer of “Beyond Salem” and the parent series “Days of our Lives.” Released by Corday Productions, Inc., the album was recorded at Eastwood Scoring Stage on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, CA where Nelson and Corday gathered a 44-piece live string orchestra and a harpist, a unique feat for a daytime series as most programs in the daypart don’t use an orchestra for music used in episodes. Having pre-recorded woodwinds and prominent percussion, the majority of the project was recorded in an unprecedented four hours, including the main title track “The Quiet Storm,” making it the duo’s most ambitious endeavor to date. “There are places in our show where a cinematic approach enhances the storytelling in a BIG way,” explained Nelson in a statement. “Yes, we are absolutely pushing the envelope in terms of putting music to picture in our genre… And sure, we could settle for a string section half this size. But why? 44 strings sound AMAZING, especially on the Eastwood Stage at Warner Bros. It’s very exciting and so much more fun doing it this way. There’s a sense of tradition and magic happening as the cues are being performed. For me, this is it. This is the thing.” Courtesy of Corday Productions, Inc. To highlight the big moments on screen, Nelson and Corday pulled out all the musical stops to help bring the storyline to life. Since 2012, the two have been incorporating live string orchestras on “DAYS,” and they wanted to go even bigger for this series. “This score for ‘Beyond Salem’ as with the mothership, ‘Days of our Lives,’ is always meant to enhance the story and in doing so only serves as a frame for the big picture,” said Corday. “There are times when the music is played in scenes without dialogue and in those moments the composers have an amazing opportunity to enhance the story in a much more direct way. It has always been my greatest pleasure and creative outlet to have been able to score ‘Days of our Lives’ since 1979. ‘Beyond Salem’ has given us an opportunity to raise the bar and somewhat change the game of composing Daytime Drama.” For more than 18 years, Corday and Nelson have worked together in scoring “DAYS,” winning multiple Emmy Awards for their work, which has blended a complex palette of music styles, including traditional piano/string writing, and acoustic guitar cues, full-blown string orchestra, and smaller orchestra ensembles. Even live choirs have been incorporated into the signature of popular storylines. They have also written and produced all the original set-specific source music, ranging from country, jazz, roadhouse blues, coffee shop acoustic, solo blues piano, dance club, strip lounge and industrial, among others. Additionally, working with local singers/songwriters/lyricists have helped curate a rather large catalog of original songs, many of which have been used on “DAYS” in place of expensive licensed songs. Three have been Emmy-nominated for “Best Original Song.” All five episodes of “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” Chapter 2 are now available to watch exclusively on Peacock. 5. As has been the case on multiple occasions in recent weeks, the daytime soaps will once again be preempted all or in part on Tuesday, July 12 due to ongoing coverage of the Congressional Committee Hearings over the January 6th Capitol Assault. “The Young and the Restless” will air the first half of an all-new episode before CBS News breaks in at 1:00 p.m. ET with a special report to be hosted by “CBS Evening News” Anchor and Managing Editor Norah O’Donnell. She’ll be joined by chief political analyst John Dickerson, senior investigative correspondent Catherine Herridge, chief election & campaign correspondent Robert Costa, chief national affairs and justice correspondent Jeff Pegues, and congressional correspondents Scott MacFarlane and Nikole Killion. The full episode of “Y&R” will air in its entirety in markets not impacted by the hearings and will be made available to watch without interruption via CBS On Demand and Paramount+. “The Bold and the Beautiful” is expected to be preempted nationally with today’s scheduled episode to air tomorrow, July 13. All episodes will therefore be pushed by a day. “The Talk” is likely to be preempted on the East Coast with today’s scheduled all-new episode available to air in markets not impacted by the hearings. The full episode will be made available on CBS On Demand and Paramount+. In markets that air “Let’s Make a Deal” after “The Talk,” the game show will be available to watch in its entirety via CBS On Demand and Paramount+. The series is currently airing a combination of reruns and all-new episodes as its season is wrapping up. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “General Hospital” are also likely to be interrupted due to today’s hearings. Like “The Talk,” “GMA3” will be preempted on the East Coast due to ABC News coverage with today’s scheduled all-new episode available to air in markets not impacted by the hearings. The full episode will be available via ABC On Demand and Hulu. “General Hospital” will be preempted nationally with today’s scheduled episode to air tomorrow, July 13. 7. The week of June 20-24, 2022 was another brutal one for daytime broadcast with further losses among Total Viewers for most shows, particularly “The Young and the Restless” (3.048 million) and “Days of our Lives” (1.535 million), caused by numerous preemptions as a result of ongoing news coverage of the January 6th Committee hearings on the 2021 Capitol Assault. Daytime’s top drama lost the most viewers week to week, down -225,000 viewers, and was also down year to year for the first time in ages. Compared to the same week last year, the soap had the second-largest viewership drop among all daytime broadcast shows with a dip of -220,000. The second half-hour of “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.456 million) managed to also lose viewers week to week, down -112,000 viewers, and had the biggest overall loss across daytime broadcast year to year, down -267,000 viewers. Despite remaining under three million viewers for the second consecutive week, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.918 million) actually gained viewers over the prior week, up +171,000 viewers, and was one of few shows to see an uptick year to year, up +42,000 viewers. In fact, the soap is also up compared to its rerun-filled week in 2020, gaining +1.364 million viewers, making it one of only two daytime broadcast shows to be up week to week, year to year, and up from its performance in 2020. Further, there were just 130,000 viewers separating third place “Y&R” and fourth place “B&B” among Total Viewers (3.048 million vs 2.918 million). “General Hospital” (2.060 million) aired just three episodes for the week which included the show’s 15,000th episode. The soap was down -87,000 viewers week to week and down -216,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. Meanwhile, “The View” (2.199 million) saw a small drop in viewers week to week, down -11,000 viewers, and another -63,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. “Days of our Lives” lost -188,000 viewers week to week, the first full week in which the show aired five episodes after being preempted for sports coverage the two prior weeks. The soap was up slightly from its series low last year, gaining +46,000 viewers year to year. “The Talk” (1.458 million) remains ahead of “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna (1.336 million) in Total Viewers, and has seen overall increases week to week (+69,000 viewers), year to year (+176,000 viewers) and over its performance in 2020 (+143,000 viewers), making it the only other daytime broadcast series to see an uptick in viewers in the aforementioned categories. Despite the increases, however, the show’s viewership remains on the low side. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of June 20-24, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. 12. Peacock Releases Key Art + Official Trailer For ‘Days Of Our Lives: Beyond Salem’ Chapter 2 Peacock has released the official trailer and key art for "Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem" Chapter 2. The five-episode series begins streaming Monday, July 11 with daily drops through Friday, July 15.
  13. Peacock is ready to unveil the next chapter of the “Days of our Lives” spinoff series “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.” The streaming service today released the official trailer and key art for the show’s five-episode second season which drops daily beginning Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15. In the minute-long trailer, we stumble upon Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and John Black (Drake Hogestyn) tied up in a room planning their escape which likely takes place later in the plot as we’re then shown scenes of Steve appearing alongside Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) as they pay a visit to their children in Seattle, including Stephanie and Joey (Abigail Klein and Tanner Stine), and Tripp (Lucas Adams) who Steve had from a prior encounter with Ava (Tamara Braun). Earlier this month on the parent series, Tripp left Salem with plans to connect with his siblings. Meanwhile, for the first time in two years, Hope Williams Brady (Kristian Alfonso) is reunited with her daughter, Ciara (Victoria Konefal), and for the first time ever is introduced to her grandchild, Beauregard “Bo” Brady Weston. Also shown is Harris Michaels (Steve Burton) who has been MIA for more than 34 years but somehow pops in with ties to Hope while appearing in several disguises, including as a Naval officer, a pizza delivery man, a police officer, and a secret government spy. Ciara is later heard asking Hope who is at the door when we’re shown a stern-faced Harris standing opposite a stunned Hope. Their encounter is set to take place in Montreal. Leaving Salem in November 2018 after learning Will (Chandler Massey) still had feelings for Sonny (then played by Freddie Smith), Paul (Christopher Sean) is back in San Francisco and this time it looks like he’ll be finding love again. Appearing in a fitness gym locker room, Andrew Donovan (Colton Little) is seen asking Paul, “How are you on frequent flier miles?” Andrew is the eldest son of Kimberly and Shane Donovan and hasn’t been seen or heard from since at least 1997. Paul is the son of John Black from a prior relationship with Tori Narita. Look for John to travel to San Francisco to see his son. With the next chapter promising old favorites and brand new faces, the globe-trotting adventure jumps from Montreal to Monte Carlo and to Hong Kong, among other popular destinations, as viewers are pushed even further beyond Salem where the past and present collide for the ultimate “Days of our Lives” event. The trailer includes an appearance by Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) who wonders what his “fancy face” is up to when Hope is shown pulling out a top secret folder with the ISA logo on the front. Bo died a few years ago but recently appeared as an Angel to help save Tripp’s life after the young man had sacrificed himself to help rid the town of the Devil. Also shown is Angela (Loretta Devine), an angel who interacts with Bo and is none too pleased with his recent actions. Gabi and Li (Camila Banus and Remington Hoffman) get busy on the top floor of a high-rise tower while Kristen (Eileen Davidson) is shown being her normal sneaky self. Look for Joey and Tripp to place their bets when their encounter with Wendy Shin (Victoria Grace) goes from catching a mystery person off guard to them putting all their cards on the table for some fun and games. Lastly, Harris can be seen holding his own mystery person at gunpoint on the open seas. With a mix of sex, gambling and heaven, John and Steve prepare to take on the big bad villain when Steve proclaims, “Now, let’s get to work.” And so begins another chapter of “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.” Watch the official trailer below. As shown in the official key art below with the “B” and “H” weddings rings, the overall plot will center on Bo and Hope and their decades-long relationship in a tale filled with larger-than-life romance, jaw-dropping twists, and high-stakes drama that all connects back to a memorable plot that originated on “Days of our Lives” long ago. Check out the official key art below. Courtesy of Peacock For more information on how to stream “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem,” or to register/subscribe in advance, visit PeacockTV.com. 14. Winning the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series: Actress during Friday’s telecast of “The 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” the first-ever by a Black actress, “The Young and the Restless” star Mishael Morgan appeared on the Monday, June 27 episode of “The Talk” to discuss her historic win, saying “it’s been incredible” since taking home the coveted statue. Speaking with the show’s hosts, Morgan noted her win “means everything,” adding, “It means that my hard work has paid off. And I feel like, when I was a kid, my dad always told me, you need to be 10 times better because you’re black, just to be seen as equal. And I hope this step forward shows that we can be equal. We’re getting to a place where more of us can just be our best and that’s enough.” When asked by Sheryl Underwood if she ever believed as a little girl that she’d be holding such an award, Morgan said, “When I was a little girl I was an immigrant, and that means that you need to pick a job and a dream that is stable, and I was going to be an attorney…and God intervened and I decided to become an actor and I didn’t understand why, and then, I really truly think it’s because storytellers, they have a way impacting and changing, influencing a world so much faster.” Following her big night, Morgan shared how she celebrated her win, telling Akbar Gbajabiamila, “A lot of alcohol was involved…had a little after party and a lot of pizza back the hotel room with a bunch of friends.” Morgan’s appearance on the talk show concluded with a champagne toast by the show’s hosts celebrating her win. 15. As has been the case in recent weeks, fans of “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “General Hospital” should expect their favorite soaps to be preempted all or in part on Tuesday, June 28 due to a previously unscheduled January 6th Committee hearing. “The Young and the Restless” is likely to air the first half of an all-new episode before CBS News breaks in with live coverage at 1:00 p.m. ET., similar to what was done on Thursday, June 16. The unscheduled hearing comes as Congress is out of session and the committee had indicated they would be on a break until the legislative branch returned. Additionally, it’s being reported that the hearing will allow the committee to “present recently obtained evidence and receive witness testimony.” No other specific details have been made available, however, it’s been noted by other outlets that after last week’s report that documentarian Alex Holder had exclusive footage for his Discovery+ docuseries “Unprecedented,” which includes unique access to former President Donald Trump and his immediate family during the Capitol Assault, the committee will screen portions of the documentary to determine its value in its investigation. A trailer for the documentary can be seen below. According to CBS, Norah O’Donnell (“CBS Evening News”) will once again anchor the network’s coverage which will be aired nationally beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET and on CBS News Streaming. Joining O’Donnell for the coverage are chief political analyst John Dickerson, chief election & campaign correspondent Robert Costa, chief national affairs and justice correspondent Jeff Pegues, congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane and political correspondent Caitlin Huey-Burns. Considering “Days of our Lives” airs at noon in some major markets, including New York’s WNBC, an all-new episode of the daytime drama series is expected to air without interruption. In time zones impacted by NBC News coverage of the hearings, viewers will be able to watch the episode in its entirety on Peacock or NBC On Demand. Meanwhile, the June 16 preemption of “B&B” and “GH” left their respective networks to slot a repeat episode for time zones not impacted by CBS News or ABC News coverage. Another preemption occurred on Tuesday, June 21 for both shows which resulted in episodes being pushed to the next day. Only “GH” was preempted on Thursday, June 23 despite the committee moving that day’s hearing to 3:00 p.m. ET — in many major markets, including New York’s WABC, the soap airs at that time. “The Talk” is expected to air an all-new episode in time zones not impacted by preemptions. For markets where the talk show isn’t shown, viewers can watch the episode in its entirety on the CBS App, Paramount+ and CBS On Demand. 16. Coverage of the House Select Committee’s public hearings on the January 6th Capitol Assault led to nearly every daytime broadcast series losing viewers week to week and year to year during the week of June 13-17, 2022. The only exception was “Days of our Lives” (1.723 million) which managed to grow in total audience over the prior week and the year ago. “The Young and the Restless” (3.273 million) and “The Talk” (1.389 million) were the only other daytime broadcast shows to see an increase year to year, albeit the latter series could still use a substantial bump in viewership despite recently getting a pick up for a 13th season by CBS. “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.747 million) and “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.246 million / 2.568 million) saw substantial losses week to week with the former down -315,000 over its performance one week earlier while the latter was down -209,000 viewers for its first half-hour and down -294,000 viewers week to week for its second half-hour. Overall, “B&B” was down a mere -44,000 viewers over the same week last year while “Deal” was down -122,000 and -188,000, respectively. “General Hospital” (2.147 million) saw a small drop week to week and year to year in Total Viewers. The show was retitled on Thursday, June 16 for the same reason. The show’s weekly average is based on three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday).“The Young and the Restless” aired a repeat on Monday, June 13 which was joined in progress following CBS News coverage of the January 6th Committee hearings. Notes: Viewing levels were hitting multi-year highs in 2020 during the initial shutdown of the country due to COVID-19. “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless” began their months-long era of classic episodes which continued through late July 2020 and early August 2020, respectively. 17. Yup. I did. I added up the cost of air fare, hotel, rental car and gas, and it didn't make sense at all. I'm happy I did it this way (even though I arrived the day of the Emmys) because I had always wanted to do a cross country drive and there were things I wanted to bring with me that I couldn't bring on a plane, or, if I could, I'd be afraid they'd break or steal it such as camera equipment and stuff like that. Gas prices are okay if you don't go anywhere. LOL. Just staying in the hotel for now. We'll see where things go in a few days. The cheapest gas I saw was $4.49 and the most expensive was $5.18. Now that I'm in LA, I do see where it's maybe $6.39 and higher. I paid $6.99 at the last rest stop I went to after arriving in CA.
  18. It's accurate, sadly. Mostly due to news coverage so it's not such a big deal. We'll get a clearer picture of how the show is doing starting the week of June 27 since there shouldn't be anymore preemptions that I'm currently aware of. As for Daytime Broadcast Ratings, yes, they got delayed on my end. They should be up later today, however. I drove cross country from NY to LA so there wouldn't be any feasible way for me to post articles and drive, LOL. Not legally, anyway. Look for SON's coverage of the Emmys to come out starting today and throughout the upcoming week. Got some great stuff coming.
  19. Sony Pictures Television, producer of “The Young and the Restless,” has signed actor Peter Bergman to a new five-year contract which will keep him in Genoa City as the character Jack Abbott, a role he has played on the daytime drama series since 1989. According to Deadline, which first reported the news, Bergman’s deal is a rare one as soaps typically hand out one to four-year contracts while Bergman’s is for five. In fact, Bergman is now signed on for a period longer than the show itself. In January 2020, CBS renewed the soap for an additional four years which will keep the series on the network through the 2023-2024 television season – it’s expected that the show will receive another significant renewal deal before the current one expires as the show remains the most-watched daily scripted series on American television and the most-watched daytime drama series overall. The soap has remained number one for 34 years. Receiving 24 Daytime Emmy Award nominations throughout his career in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance In A Drama Series: Actor, including last night’s presentation, Bergman won in 1991, 1992, and 2002 for his portrayal of Jack Abbott on “Y&R.” He received his first nomination in 1983 for his portrayal as Dr. Cliff Warner on “All My Children” (1979-1989). In addition to “Y&R,” Bergman has played himself or Jack Abbott on other television shows, including “The Nanny,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The King of Queens.” In 2015, he played a dual role for the first time on “Y&R,” appearing as Jack and Marco Annicelli who was hired by Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) to take over the real Jack’s life. 20. Well I'm of the impression the 15,000th show will be preempted again and instead air on Wednesday, June 22. Even noted that in my article on it. ABC (for now) is insisting it'll be the 21st. Other than the 15,000th show, I expect that on Thursday ABC will air GH at its regular 2:00 p.m. slot so not an official preemption except for those markets airing the show at it 3:00 p.m. like NY. It'll probably air overnight, or just be made available on Hulu and ABC On Demand without a login required. https://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2022/06/general-hospital-preemption-shifts-episodes
