  2. It’s been a year since CBS announced that former NBC News veteran Natalie Morales would be joining “The Talk” as the show’s new moderator, and now comes word that Morales will be expanding her role at the network to include correspondent at CBS News while still retaining her duties at “The Talk.” “Natalie is one of the best in the business and a welcome addition to CBS News,” said Neeraj Khemlani, president and co-head of CBS News and Stations, in announcing Morales’ additional role. “She has excelled at the highest levels – from network morning shows to longform storytelling – and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her on our team. She will be doing stories for ‘48 Hours,’ ‘CBS Mornings,’ ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ and others. She knows how to get to the heart of a tough story with compassion and grace.” Prior to joining CBS, Morales was the west coast anchor of “Today,” a correspondent for “Dateline NBC” and the anchor of “Behind Closed Doors with Natalie Morales,” a series presented by Reelz. She had previously served as host of “Access,” co-host of “Access Live” and was news anchor of “Today,” where she co-hosted the third hour. She joined “Today” in 2006 as a national correspondent, reporting for all of NBC News’ platforms including “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” and MSNBC. “It’s a privilege to contribute to the CBS News programs and I’m hoping to tell the stories that matter and to talk about issues many of us face,” said Morales. “’48 Hours’ pioneered true crime television and I’m looking forward to working with the great team of producers and correspondents to bring the best stories to CBS viewers on Saturday nights.” Now in its 35th season, ‘48 Hours’ is one of the most successful true crime docuseries in television history and has been the #1 non-sports broadcast on Saturday nights for 15 consecutive seasons. “Natalie is a high-profile reporter with a familiar voice that viewers trust. She’s also known for her exclusive, unsparing interviews of notorious criminals including Clark Rockefeller and Drew Peterson,” said Judy Tygard, executive producer of 48 HOURS. “We’ve watched her work for years and we’re excited to have her reporting for us.” During her two decades of reporting for NBC News she covered many major national and international breaking news events, including such stories as the 2017 Route 91 Harvest Festival mass shooting, the Boston Marathon bombing, the rescue of Chilean miners in 2010 and the 2009 presidential inauguration. In August 2008, Morales had the exclusive jailhouse interview with the infamous Clark Rockefeller. Her other notable reports include Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the death of Pope John Paul II in 2005 and the election of Pope Francis in 2013. She also reported on the royal wedding in 2011 and the birth of Prince George in 2013. Morales’ work has been honored with three Daytime Emmy Awards as part of “Today’s” recognition as best morning news program. She’s also earned a Robert F. Kennedy Award, three Gracie Awards and a National Headliner Award. On the Monday, October 3 broadcast of “The Talk,” Morales further discussed her expanded role with her fellow co-hosts, saying, “In addition to being one of ‘The Talk’ co-hosts here, I have something that you know I love doing. I’m also going to be a correspondent for CBS news.” She adds, “I love telling stories. I’m passionate about telling long form interviews, investigative reporting, true crime so this is a new opportunity. It gives me a chance to do all of that. I’m going to be working a lot with ’48 Hours,’ in fact I’m shooting my very first story today… I’ve missed reporting. ‘CBS Mornings’ and ‘CBS Sunday Mornings’ are my favorite programs, so I’m so excited to be able to contribute and to be part of this team.” On her first story for “48 Hours,” Morales teases, “This one is kind of top secret. I will just say there is an incredible conclusion and it’s taken decades… It was a cold case. It’s going to be a really good one and it’s something that finally was just resolved… it’s a big one.” Watch a clip of her discussing her new role at CBS News below. “48 Hours” airs Saturdays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. “The Talk” airs weekdays at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT on CBS. 3. With both sides standing their ground, The Walt Disney Company and the DISH Network Corporation failed to reach a new carriage agreement that impacts DISH TV and Sling TV customers. As of October 1, 2022, Disney’s media networks, including the ABC-owned stations, the Disney Channels, ESPN Networks, FX Networks, Freeform and National Geographic, are unavailable on DISH TV and Sling TV in what is called a channel blackout. ABC stations impacted by the blackout include stations in such big markets as Chicago, IL (WLS), Fresno, CA (KFSN), Houston, TX (KTRK), Los Angeles, CA (KABC), New York, NY (WABC), Philadelphia, PA (WPVI) and San Francisco, CA (KGO). In a statement (via Deadline), Disney said, “After months of negotiating in good faith, DISH has declined to reach a fair, market-based agreement with us for continued distribution of our networks. As a result, their DISH and Sling TV subscribers have lost access to our unrivaled portfolio of live sports and news plus kids, family and general entertainment programming from the ABC Owned Television Stations, the ESPN networks, the Disney-branded channels, Freeform, the FX networks, the National Geographic channels and BabyTV.” Disney further notes, “The rates and terms we are seeking reflect the marketplace and have been the foundation for numerous successful deals with pay TV providers of all types and sizes across the country. We’re committed to reaching a fair resolution, and we urge DISH to work with us in order to minimize the disruption to their customers.” In a statement released by DISH, the company says Disney “declined DISH’s offer for a contract extension, walked away from the negotiation table and refused to keep its programming accessible for millions of DISH and SLING customers across the United States.” Further, they point out, “The removal of these channels will also have an oversized impact on rural consumers who rely on satellite television as a primary means of entertainment.” “Disney has exploited its market position to increase fees without regard for the public viewing experience,” said Brian Neylon, executive vice president and group president, DISH TV. “Clearly, Disney insists on prioritizing greed above American viewers, especially sports fans and families with children who watch their content.” Pointing out Disney’s push to prioritize its Disney+ and ESPN+ brands over its linear broadcast and cable networks, DISH says, “Disney is more interested in becoming a monopolistic power than providing its programming to viewers under fair terms. Disney plans to spend billions on its direct-to-consumer streaming services such as Disney+ and ESPN+ — platforms not included for DISH and SLING customers.” “We will continue to negotiate to provide the best value for our customers. We want to provide customers with fair rates, reliable service and the freedom of choice to pay for the channels they watch most,” added Gary Schanman, executive vice president and group president, SLING TV. “Disney is an important long-term partner for us, and we hope they will be reasonable in their demands so we can reach a fair agreement and bring our customers’ channels back as quickly as possible.” DISH TV and SLING TV customers can visit dishpromise.com or slingpromise.com for more information. A prolonged dispute between the companies could have a long-term negative impact on such high-profile shows as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Monday Night Football,” “General Hospital,” “The View,” among others, who count on viewers to set ad rates for the just started 2022-2023 television season. 6. Mishael is on recurring status. The show treats its contract and recurring stars the same in terms of marketing and promotion, hence why Greg Rikaart is also part of the photo shoot even though he’s on contract at “Days of our Lives.”
  7. In addressing recent exit rumors, actress Mishael Morgan posted a message on her Instagram stories timeline early this evening which sets the record straight about her status as Amanda Sinclair on “The Young and the Restless.” “Okay, guys. So, I just wrapped from my last scenes back at ‘Y&R’ and I just wanted to let the cat out of the bag a little bit,” Morgan starts off saying. “A lot of people have noticed that my name is not on the main credits anymore, and I wanted everybody to know that it was my decision. I decided actually back in December that I wanted to take a bit of a step back from the show.” Explaining her reasons, Morgan notes, “I just feel like at this point in my life, and at the point in my career, I wanted to mix things up a little bit. But ‘Y&R’ will always be home, and I have so appreciated this safe place to land that they’ve given me so I know that I can be back. They are like family to me, and coming back just reminds me of that.” As for the fans, Morgan shares her appreciation, saying, “I’m so appreciative of you guys and all the fans who have supported me along this ‘Y&R’ journey.” As for what’s next, she makes it clear that she’s not leaving the show per se. “I’m still on it! I’m still going to be on recurring, so you’ll still catch me in Genoa City.” In closing, Morgan conveyed her love and thanks to all. “I love you guys so much. Thank you guys for being a part of this. Keep looking out for new things.” Photo by @mishaelmorgan/Instagram Note: The post Mishael Morgan Addresses Exit Rumors, Reveals Decision to Go Recurring at ‘The Young and the Restless’ appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 8. Eagle-eyed viewers have been discussing the potential exit of Daytime Emmy Award winner Mishel Morgan from “The Young and the Restless” for weeks, primarily due to her name not appearing in the contract cast list shown during the end credits segment at the end of select episodes — the last time Morgan was credited as a contract cast member was the August 4 episode while her character last appeared on-screen on the August 5 episode. Earlier this month, Morgan seemingly put exit rumors to bed when she responded to multiple worried fans on Twitter, saying, “Don’t worry, I’ll be back on screen very soon.” However, a recent post by co-star Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers) has rejuvenated conversations about Morgan possibly leaving the soap. In an Instagram post shared yesterday, September 28, Stafford dedicated a heartfelt message to Morgan: “My super amazing EMMY winning friend! I have had so much fun with you the past 3 years. I love the friendship we created on screen. And the friendship we created off screen. “SO many amazing things are happening for you and I am beyond excited! The future is yours! This is the beginning of so much greatness. I love the scenes we shot today. I love you girl. You are special. Never forget that. Go get um!” Stafford closed her post with a “heart” emoji along with a photo of the two standing side by side during a break from a taping. Morgan’s most recent post on her own Instagram page, published last week, was a short clip of herself moving to the song “Come Check This” by FETISH while in her dressing room at the Television City studio where “Y&R” is taped. She captioned the video with “Ready for my close up!” The clip was liked by nearly 3,000 accounts, including the “Y&R” handle and some of her co-stars. Per its policy, “The Young and the Restless” does not comment on the status of actor contracts. Mishael Morgan is the first African American actress to win a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Drama Series: Actress. During an appearance on “The Talk” shortly after winning the award, the actress spoke of the meaning of the historic achievement. “It means that my hard work has paid off,” she added, noting, “And I feel like, when I was a kid, my dad always told me, you need to be ten times better because you’re black, just to be seen as equal. And I hope this step forward shows that we can be equal. We’re getting to a place where more of us can just be our best, and that’s enough.” Stafford’s post currently stands at just over 3,000 likes, including from fellow cast mates and the show’s casting associate. 10. The January 6th Committee announced on Tuesday that due to the potential impact of Hurricane Ian on the Florida coast that they will be postponing the Wednesday, September 28 hearing which would have preempted “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “The Talk,” “General Hospital” and “GMA3: What You Need to Know.” “In light of Hurricane Ian bearing down on parts of Florida, we have decided to postpone tomorrow’s proceedings. We’re praying for the safety of all those in the storm’s path,” read a statement on the committee’s Twitter page. A new date for the hearings has not been set but will be announced soon. “The 1/6 hearings have shown that Trump knew his effort to overturn the election was illegal & unconstitutional. He did it anyway,” said outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney, a committee member, while speaking on the Electoral Count Act, a bill that’ll clarify the Vice President’s role and the electoral process in certifying future elections. “Trump’s conduct was illegal under existing law and would be under our new bill, too. 14. With this week kicking off the show’s 50th season, premiering Friday, September 30 on CBS and Paramount+, “The Young and the Restless” has unveiled a new on-air promo look. “The Young and the Restless” Courtesy of CBS Utilizing a gold number “50” next to the iconic red colored “YR” paint stroke, the show’s brand new design removes the red backdrop design the show had used since November 2020 and replaces it with a cloudy white backdrop highlighted by Genoa City high rises in the foreground. Further reflecting the design change are updates to the show’s official social media handles (@YRInsider @YandR_CBS on Twitter; @theyoungandtherestless on Facebook; @youngandrestlesscbs on Instagram) which were updated on Monday, September 26, with a simple “YR50” for the avatar and a “YR50” background which notesthe show is available with new episodes airing weekdays on both CBS and Paramount+. A “CBS Original” bug is placed above the icon. In the first on-air teaser clip using the new design, the show displaced their regular weekly storyline highlights with one featuring classic moments of mostly current characters from episodes past as the show excites fans with the phrase, “Giving You Whatcha Like for 50 Years.” Clips shown in the promo include a romantic moment from the early days of Jack (Peter Bergman) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford); the iconic cake fight between Katherine (the late Jeanne Cooper) and Jill (Jess Walton); another romantic moment, this time between Michael (Christian Le Blanc) and Lauren (Tracey Bergman) in the park; the smiling face of Malcolm (Shemar Moore); a memorable night between Sharon (Sharon Case) and Nicholas (Joshua Morrow); one of Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) weddings; and the decisive moment Jack threw an office chair outside his Jabot high-rise office. Concluding the promo are recent scenes featuring catty moments and several additional bouts of romance on display between characters. Future promos will continue the on-air look but will feature sneak peeks at the week’s upcoming episodes, as has been done in the past. Check out this week’s promo below. 15. I don’t believe it was a racist comment. His point was the origin story for the character is very explicit in where Bond comes from. It has nothing to do with race directly. Can writers ignore the origin story and race swap? Sure, but why should they? I’m of the opinion that fictional characters shouldn’t be race swapped just to appease people who think it doesn’t matter. For instance, if it’s not okay to race swap a Black or Asian character without backlash, why race swap a White character other than because you can? I generally don’t talk politics or get into topics like this, but this is just my personal opinion and does not reflect the opinion(s) of others or the direct opinion of Soap Opera Network and its associated properties.

  17. The 2022-2023 broadcast television season officially kicked off on Monday, September 19 with the return of all-new episodes of some of television’s most-watched and most-social programming, including “The Voice,” “NCIS,” “9-1-1,” “FBI: Most Wanted,” “Abbott Elementary,” and “Law & Order: SVU,” to name a few. So, when do/did the daytime soaps have their season premieres? Let’s find out! Note: There’s some spoilers ahead. Daytime soaps haven’t traditionally gone by “seasons” as they are the only genre to air new episodes every weekday all year round with limited exceptions. However, in recent years, the broadcast networks have quietly promoted new seasons of each series similar to their primetime counterparts. As an example, CBS recently noted new seasons of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Price is Right” and “The Young and the Restless” would premiere this month. The game shows launched their recent seasons on Monday, September 19, and the two soaps premiere their new seasons this week. Although the idea makes sense for “Let’s Make a Deal” and “The Price is Right” since the two take lengthy breaks from taping and can air reruns throughout the summer without lapsed viewers realizing they’ve potentially already seen an episode, the network’s daytime soaps aren’t able to take breaks, even on some major holidays, since they tape roughly 250 all-new episodes year round and must air said episodes in chronological order. The Bold and the Beautiful Sean Kanan, Melody Thomas Scott and Kimberlin Brown (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) Photo by Howard Wise/JPI Studios With reruns not faring too well in the ratings, daytime soaps don’t have to share schedule space with other programs outside of extraordinary events such as breaking news or sports coverage. Thus, when “The Bold and the Beautiful” launches Season 36 on Monday, September 26, it would appear as just another episode to viewers of the L.A.-based soap since they only had the weekend to wait to find out what happens next. On the other hand, fans of primetime shows will have had to wait months between seasons to answer such queries. To entice viewers behind the idea of premiere week for their dramas, CBS is kicking off “B&B’s” new season with a crossover episode featuring Melody Thomas Scott appearing as her Nikki Newman character from “The Young and the Restless” as she meets up with her old friend Eric Forrester (John McCook). While the two catch up and discuss an original Forrester design that’s to be worn by Nikki’s granddaughter, Summer (Alison Lanier), Nikki’s real reason for being in town is to meet up with Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) with the hope she’ll get what she needs to take down Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). In addition to McCook and Kanan, look for Scott to share scenes with Annika Noelle (Hope Logan) and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy Forrester). There’s also a certain someone lurking in the shadows during Nikki’s meeting with Deacon that’ll make the crossover event the more enticing for longtime viewers of both dramas. The show will air its 9000th episode in April 2023. The Young and the Restless “The Young and the Restless” Courtesy of CBS On Friday, September 30, “The Young and the Restless” kicks off its 50th season with Nikki back in town from her Los Angeles visit with the information she learned from Deacon, hoping it helps her and Phyllis’ planand Diane encounters a surprise visitor. Meanwhile, Victor (Eric Braeden) has sound advice to share with his daughter, Victoria (Amelia Henle). The show will build off its classic storylines all season long, with the return of several fan favorites intertwined with intrigue and family drama featuring the show’s iconic characters. Former “One Life to Live” actor Trevor St. John (ex-Victor Lord, Jr./ex-Todd Manning) makes his debut as a yet-to-be-named character. He debuts Wednesday, September 28. In March 2023, the daytime drama series will air a special 50th-anniversary episode. Days of our Lives “Days of our Lives” suddenly moved to streaming service Peacock after 57 seasons on broadcast network NBC. With the show filming nearly eight months ahead, there wasn’t much time to promote the move, but the new season still kicked off on schedule (Monday, September 19) with big revelations, particularly in the “Who Killed Abigail?” storyline — it was explained that Clyde Weston (James Read) had done the deed. On Tuesday, September 27, viewers will find out what happened the night she was killed when Chad (Billy Flynn) confronts his wife’s killer. General Hospital The Hook (“General Hospital”) Courtesy of ABC Before segueing into its 60th season (September 12), “General Hospital” kicked off a new serial killer storyline, the show’s first since 2013 when Stephen Clay (Michael Easton, currently appearing as Hamilton Finn) terrorized Port Charles. With two victims under their belt, one of whom died last week, a third victim of “The Hook” will be attacked this week, leaving many in Port Charles questioning everything. The following week, yet another victim will be attacked. In April 2023, the daytime drama series will air a special 60th-anniversary episode. What follows is a recap of the season premiere dates for the four daytime soaps: “General Hospital” (ABC) – Season 60 (Monday, September 12)“Days of our Lives” (Peacock) – Season 58 (Monday, September 19)“The Bold and the Beautiful” (CBS) – Season 36 (Monday, September 26)“The Young and the Restless” (CBS) – Season 50 (Friday, September 30) Note: The post Premiere Dates for Daytime Soaps (2022-2023 Season) appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 18. On the Friday, September 23 episode of “The Talk,” co-host Amanda Kloots announced that throughout the show’s 13th season, fans can expect to see exclusive sneak peek clips from upcoming episodes of CBS daytime dramas “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “The Young and the Restless.” The first clip provided was a look at the Monday, September 26 season premiere episode of “The Bold and the Beautiful,” wherein Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) from “The Young and the Restless” heads to Los Angeles to meet up with her old friend Eric Forrester (John McCook) and the two discuss an original Forrester design to be worn by Nikki’s granddaughter, Summer (Alison Lanier). Also in the scene are Hope Logan (Annika Noelle) and Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). When asked by Steffy if she planned to stay in L.A. for a few more days before heading back to Genoa City, Nikki notes she would be heading back soon, but not before making a quick stop first — a meeting with Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) to discuss Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters). It’s understood that most sneak peek clips shared on “The Talk” will be played during episodes primarily featuring actors from the daytime dramas, both of which this season celebrate several milestones. “Y&R” is entering its 50th season, airing a special anniversary episode in March 2023, and “B&B” will air its 9000th episode in April 2023. 20. When “Bold Live” suddenly had to cancel its Friday, September 16 episode with “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Annika Noelle (Hope Logan) scheduled to appear as a guest, it was reportedly due to a conflict with Noelle’s production schedule at the soap opera. Simultaneously, the “B&B” Twitter page announced that her appearance on the popular podcast series would be postponed to a date yet to be determined. On Friday, September 23, we learned that “Bold Live” won’t return with all-new episodes until at least Friday, October 7. Although no official reason was given for the long gap between episodes, the “B&B” Twitter page did note that more details would be shared next week, likely announcing who would be the next guest on the upcoming episode. Hosted by the soap opera’s co-supervising producer, Casey Kasprzyk, “Bold Live” airs live every Friday on YouTube and is the only official talk show that gives fans of “The Bold and the Beautiful” an opportunity to consistently interact with their favorite stars from the world’s most watched daily series by way of picking up the phone, dialing a number and talking to them live on air. Fans can also take part as video guests when available. The show is produced from Television City in Los Angeles, where “B&B” tapes. Recent episodes have featured Sean Kanan (Deacon Sharpe) as a guest and Kasprzyk taking fans on a virtual tour of the “B&B” production studio, where he provides behind-the-scenes stories about Television City and where the show shoots their outdoor scenes when not leaving the lot. 22. It looks like Peacock’s much-hyped reboot of “Queer As Folk” will be one and done. The streaming service has opted not to order a second season of the Stephen Dunn-created series, which premiered in June. Only eight episodes of the series were produced. Starring Devin Way, Fin Argus, Jesse James Keitel, CG, John Sibilly and Ryan O’Connell, who also serves as a writer and co-executive producer, “Queer as Folk” was a vibrant reimagining of the groundbreaking British series of the same name created by Russell T. Davis, who himself also served as an executive producer on the new series. The show follows a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy. Guest stars included Kim Cattrall, Juliette Lewis, Ed Begley Jr., Nyle DiMarco and Chris Renfro, among others. Word of the show’s cancellation came from Dunn, who shared the news on Instagram on Friday night. “It’s a rare gift in these times, and in this country, to be able to make a show as fearless and unapologetic as ‘Queer As Folk’. This experience changed our lives forever and we’re so grateful to have found this incredible new family. But today we received the disappointing news that we’re not getting a second season,” Dunn posted alongside a photo of the show’s cast. “We know how much it’s meant to the fans and while we’re heartbroken we won’t get to make more episodes, we wanna thank everyone for watching and falling in love with Brodie, Mingus, Ruthie, Noah, Shar, Julian, Daddius, Bussey, Marvin, Judy and Brenda. We’re so grateful for the chance to honor our community and are so proud of this show.” In addition to creating and EP’ing the show, Dunn also directed at least three episodes of the series, including the pilot episode. Additional executive producers include Jaclyn Moore, Lee Eisenberg, Emily Brecht, Nicola Schindler and Louise Pedersen on behalf of All3 Media International, which distributes the format and the original British series produced by Red Productions for Channel 4. The show was produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Check out a trailer of the show’s first and only season below. 23. After a 12-year absence, actor Roark Critchlow is back in Salem, reprising his role as Dr. Mike Horton on “Days of our Lives.” His first air date is set for Tuesday, October 4. Critchlow’s return was first revealed earlier this month when Peacock released a fall trailer teasing what’s to come on the drama series, which recently moved to the streaming service after spending more than 56 years on NBC. Critchlow joined the cast of the series in 1994 and remained a full-time cast member until 1999. He reprised the role again in 2010 for a few episodes to honor the late Frances Reid, who played Alice Horton, Mike’s grandmother. Details about the actor’s return up to that point had been kept under wraps. Now, in an interview with Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands news, Critchlow is speaking out about his return to the series, including who he shares his first scenes with, why he’s back in town, and how his return to the canvas came to be. First things first: Critchlow will first appear on-screen alongside Susan Seaforth Hayes and Bill Hayes (Julie and Doug Williams). His visit will be a short one. “I was nervous. You get back in there and you just feel … it’s not like a heavy weight, but it’s a heritage,” says Critchlow of working with the legendary actors. “To be able to work with people who have been at it as well and as long as they have? We actually had a couple of lovely scenes. It was like the people that you knew from 20 years ago or whatever. It was not just the characters going, “Oh, hi. Hey, Mike, you’re back. It’s good to see you, too.’ It was so genuine, because they were both coming from a human place. It wasn’t just the actors and the characters. It really enjoyed those scenes.” As for how his return came to be, Critchlow credits the writers for thinking of him as the offer came as a surprise. “I’m not really sure how it evolved,” he tells Digest. “They just contacted my agent. He was like, ‘Hey. They’ve got a couple of episodes. Do you want to go?’ I was like, ‘Hell, yeah. That sounds good.'” In addition to the Hayes, Critchlow also worked alongside Cady McClain and Matthew Ashford. The former plays a recast Jennifer Horton, Critchlow’s on-screen sister, and the latter plays Jack Deveraux, Jennifer’s husband. During Critchlow’s initial time on the soap, another actor played the part of Jack, the actor points out. “When I was on it, it was Mark Valley [ex-Jack]. That was actually kind of fun, because he and I shared a whole bunch of stories. Now we’re both in the same spot in our careers.” Meanwhile, working with McClain for the first time became natural for Critchlow despite another actress playing his character’s sister during his initial run. “She and I dropped in really easily, I felt,” said Critchlow of his experience. “It was a very nice, natural care for each other. It wasn’t difficult, that’s for sure. Obviously, Missy [Reeves, ex-Jennifer] is a super-duper person. But you don’t compare people. Cady and I chatted. We got on good. In terms of story, I thought we pulled it off nicely as being people who’ve known each other their whole lives.” During his return to the Los Angeles area for taping, Critchlow was able to spend time catching up with friends, his kids and his ex-wife, Maria, as he primarily spends most of his days in Canada, more specifically Summerland, British Columbia, where his parents live and where he went to high school. “I came back because mom and day are getting older,” Critchlow tells Digest. “I thought, ‘I’ll come back home, take a break and gather myself.” Since his initial departure from the soap in 1999, Critchlow has gone on to star in such shows as “V” and the original “Pretty Little Liars” series. He’s also appeared in episodes of “Drop Dead Diva,” “NCIS,” “Supernatural,” “UnREAL,” and “Arrow,” among others. He reunited with former “Days of our Lives” co-star Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady) in the 2016 TV movie “Murder, She Baked: A Peach Cobbler Mystery.” He can next be seen in the Christmas TV movie, “My Favorite Christmas Tree.” For more on Critchlow’s return to “Days of our Lives,” make sure to pick up your copy of the October 3, 2022 issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now.
