  1. The fifth season of “Cobra Kai” on Netflix launches Friday, September 9 and it will include “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Sean Kanan who reprises his role as Mike Barns, a role he originated in “The Karate Kid Part III” which was released in 1989. “So excited to FINALLY announce that Mike Barnes will be a part of season 5!” wrote Kanan on Twitter following the announcement first reported by Deadline. He added, “@healdrules @jonhurwitz & @McSchlossberg wrote me an awesome story. Can’t wait for you all to see it!” In addition to his starring role as Deacon Sharpe on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and his upcoming return as Mike Barnes in “Cobra Kai,” Kanan can also be seen in “Studio City” which recently released its second season on Amazon earlier this year. Check out a pic of Kanan from an upcoming episode below. 2. During the week of August 1-5, 2022, every daytime broadcast series saw week to week losses among Total Viewers except for “TODAY 3rd Hour” (2.022 million) and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (1.512 million). “Days of our Lives” (1.666 million) and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.576 million) saw the smallest week to week drops, down just -4,000 and -6,000 viewers, respectively. Compared to the same week last year, only “The Young and the Restless” (3.312 million), “The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.028 million) and “The View” (2.245 million) declined among Total Viewers. Meanwhile, NBC’s continued coverage of the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games preempted its lineup one year earlier. Elsewhere, this week marks two years since “General Hospital” (2.102 million) returned to originals after the pandemic shutdown in early 2020, making it the second soap to resume airing all-new episodes since returning to production in July 2020. The soap is up +195,000 viewers over the same period in 2020 and up another +4,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. Despite airing repeats all week, both half hours of “The Price is Right” (3.651 million / 4.207 million) and “Let’s Make a Deal” (2.250 million / 2.650 million), and “The Talk” (1.429 million), each saw year to year increases. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of August 1-5, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted on Thursday. 3. Last week, ABC’s “The View” officially announced frequent guest co-host Ana Navarro and communication strategist Alyssa Farah Griffin as the show’s newest co-hosts, joining moderator Whoopi Goldberg and co-hosts Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines on the panel for Season 26. Navarro will now appear on the show at least two days a week, filling in for Behar and Goldberg, who are off on those days. Farah Griffin takes over the conservative seat last held by Meghan McCain who vacated the series ahead of the show’s 25th season. ”We promised to take a little time to fill the seat and we have found the right match and a welcome addition to the show with Alyssa,” said the show’s executive producer Brian Teta. “She is willing to share her unique political experience and brings a strong conservative perspective while holding her own in tough debates with her co-hosts and guests on both sides of the aisle.” “Ana has made an indelible impact on ‘The View’ since the first time she joined us at the table,” Teta continued. “She is a strong independent thinker with savvy insight, not to mention that she is whip-smart and fiercely funny. We are very happy to officially welcome her as a co-host.” Appearing 29 times throughout Season 25, Farah Griffin previously served as a spokesperson for the president, vice president and secretary of defense from 2017-2020, making her the only person ever to hold each of those positions. An alumnus of Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service and the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Farah Griffin was the recipient of the Secretary of Homeland Security’s Award for Distinguished Public Service and serves on the board of the American Conservation Coalition. She will continue in her role as a political commentator for CNN. “I couldn’t be more honored and thrilled to join the ladies of ‘The View,’” said Farah Griffin. “The show paved the way for women speaking up and speaking out on TV. At a time when our country is so divided, often on partisan lines, I’m honored to represent the conservative perspective. I hope to model what is too often lost by our elected leaders: learning from others, disagreeing respectfully, and focusing on finding real solutions for our country.” Joining as a contributor to the show in 2015 during Season 19, Navarro became a guest co-host in November 2018 as part of Season 22. Until Season 26, Navarro had previously appeared on the show on Fridays when Goldberg had the day off. She’ll now also appear on Mondays when Behar has the day off. The Republican political strategist and commentator was the National Hispanic co-chair for John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and has advised numerous federal and state campaigns in Florida and nationally. Despite her increased appearance on “The View,” Navarro will continue as a political commentator for both CNN and Telemundo. Navarro was born in Nicaragua and immigrated to the United States in 1980 when she was just eight years old. Ana Navarro, Sara Haines, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin (“The View”) Photo by Lou Rocco/ABC “‘The View’ is an institution and incomparable platform for women of different backgrounds to share their opinions and insights,” said Navarro. “It’s been a long courtship, but we’re finally making it official. I love being on the show, and I love living in Miami. I’m happy I will be able to do both. Thank you to ABC News, ‘The View’ family and our loyal viewers for their continued support.” Created by Barbara Walters, “The View” currently ranks as one of daytime television’s most-watched and highest-rated programs, broadcast and syndication alike, often tying or beating the likes of “Dr. Phil,” “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna,” among others. Season 26 of “The View” launches in September on ABC. 4. With “The View” wrapping its 25th season last week, the ABC News program reportedly signed co-host Sunny Hostin to a new multi-year deal that would keep her on the daytime talk show through at least the show’s 28th season. Joining “The View” as a co-host in 2016, Variety reports that Hostin’s deal will also include her continuing to appear in special projects for ABC, such as “Soul of a Nation,” and providing commentary on the network’s other flagship news programs like “20/20,” “Good Morning America” and “Nightline.” Hostin joined ABC News as a legal correspondent and analyst in 2016, just a few months before being named a co-host of “The View.” She previously made television appearances on CNN, CourtTV and FOX News, among others. Signing Hostin ensures “The View” will have its ducks in a row during critical news cycles, particularly the 2024 presidential election. Last September, Whoopi Goldberg signed a new multi-year deal, keeping her on the show through Season 28. Joy Behar also signed a new deal in May that will keep her on the show through Season 28. Created by Barbara Walters, “The View” currently ranks as one of daytime television’s most-watched and highest-rated programs, broadcast and syndication alike, often tying or beating the likes of “Dr. Phil,” “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” “TODAY 3rd Hour” and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna,” among others. Season 26 of “The View” launches in September on ABC. Note: The post Sunny Hostin Signs Multi-Year Deal to Continue as Co-Host of ‘The View’ appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 5. Maya oversees Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem for Peacock. Lia oversees Days of our Lives for Corday Productions. Without saying too much, I will just reiterate that there are other people involved in this situation that weren't before. That doesn't mean the current team isn't involved at all though.
  6. All 14,000 episodes will not be available on Peacock when it moves to the platform exclusively next month. I don't care how WSJ or FOX News wrote their article, that's not what NBC said in their PR and that's not what they are saying behind the scenes right now. According to NBC, "For the first time ever, all new episodes of the 58-time Emmy Award-winning drama will debut on Peacock daily with the show’s robust library already available to stream for Peacock Premium subscribers." They go on to say, "The historic move to Peacock creates the ultimate destination for daytime fans to access the library, new episodes and Peacock Original 'Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem' in one place." This means fans will have access to the library of episodes already on the platform, all new episodes released by Peacock starting September 12, plus the two seasons of "Beyond Salem" as long as they are a premium subscriber to the service. Deals are still being made and discussed behind the scenes, and news will be released very soon to clarify things, but I'm told as of right now nothing is changing right now except the show will no longer be available on NBC or NBC On Demand for those viewers who watched it that way. I'll have more on this later today. Also, regarding 14,000 episodes: It's mentioned in the "About Days of our Lives" section of the PR. Some interns writing for FOX/WSJ decided to misinterpret that to mean that 14,000 episodes of the show are currently available on Peacock. Not the case at all, obviously. ABOUT “DAYS OF OUR LIVES” “Days of Our Lives,” a consistent favorite among fans and critics alike, aired it’s 14,000th episode in 2020 and remains NBC’s longest-running series. The show has garnered 58 Emmy Awards, including most recently 2018’s Outstanding Daytime Drama, and 372 nominations, as well as multiple People’s Choice Awards, GLAAD Media Awards, and Prism Awards. The show’s success stems from its consistent commitment to excellence in writing and storytelling – supported by a diverse ensemble of performers – and an uncanny knack for anticipating viewer interests. With its mix of classic genre traditions and groundbreaking narratives reflecting modern life, “Days of Our Lives” remains a perennial favorite among viewers of all ages. “Days of Our Lives” is produced by Corday Productions Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ken Corday is executive producer with co-executive producer Albert Alarr. Ron Carlivati is the head writer.
  7. The Talk videos aren't ads. The ads before and after the clips are. Video ads pay well and help cover the upkeep for the site. I just inserted the Talk clips to ensure ads showed up with video. Soon I'll be replacing them with SON original videos.
  8. Hearing more and more about how shocked everyone is about the news, hence the near radio silence. Right now I'm told things will remain status quo but to expect announcements on changes in the next 2-3 weeks as we get closer to the shift. Things are still being worked out behind the scenes despite NBC's shock announcement. Days of our Lives will remain eligible for Daytime Emmys in all categories despite the move to Peacock. As an aside, now I know why Peacock advertises on SON so much even though I myself don't use the service often. Last time I watched anything on it (and not on my computer to be clear) was several months ago when I wanted to see what happened on Manifest.
  9. Expect major announcements in the next 2-3 weeks re: DAYS move. There will be more known on the move very soon.
  10. I don't watch any soap live on TV unless I come across it if I left the TV running in the background. I mostly watch the shows online through streaming websites or apps on TV/phone. Watch at my own pace and decide which episodes.
  11. From my investigation thus far, it looks like a whole new group of people are overseeing this move to Peacock. Cast was blind sided when they found out today.
  12. There's one bright side. At least DAYS isn't being replaced by a fifth hour of The Today Show even though it is still another news hour. With NBC giving its stations the option to carry "NBC News Daily" or air local news.
  13. True. Very true. Not so bad being that it's on a Wednesday, but enough where people were actually blind sided by this. And for how soon the change is happening. There's not even time to "celebrate" the show in terms of how long it aired on NBC. Usually when a show moves from one network (or service in this case) to another, they get to have some kind of celebration for the time they were on the original platform before moving on. Key word is usually.
  14. Here's what I know thus far...releasing this at the end of business on any day of the week ain't the best time to make "good news" announcements.
  15. So I barely had time to sit in my chair before the news got officially announced. Been on the phone with some peeps. Trying to find out more details beyond what NBC announced. ‘Days Of Our Lives’ Making The Shift From NBC To Peacock Starting September 12 "Days of our Lives" to end its historic run on NBC with a move to streaming service Peacock, becoming the first daytime broadcast series to do so. The soap will be replaced by "NBC News Daily" or local news on NBC stastions.
  16. Beginning Monday, September 12, “Days of our Lives” will conclude its broadcast television run on NBC and will move exclusively to streaming service Peacock, it was announced today. The series will be replaced by “NBC News Daily” in the soap’s former network timeslot. In making the announcement, the network noted that the flagship series will debut with all-new episodes that will be released daily on Peacock as part of the services premium plan. Previously, the soap had been available to stream without a paid subscription since joining the platform in mid-2020. It became a Peacock exclusive for streaming purposes in July 2021. The soap now joins the spinoff series “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem” for what is being billed as the ultimate destination for daytime fans. Since its debut on November 8, 1965, “Days of our Lives” has wracked up 58 Emmy Awards, including its most recent win for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series in 2018, and has received 372 nominations overall. The soap has aired more than 14,000 episodes and had been NBC’s longest-running series. Ken Corday is the executive producer and Albert Alarr is the co-executive producer. Ron Carlivati is the head writer. With “NBC News Daily,” the network is offering stations a first-of-its-kind, live in most markets mid-day news, an hourlong program anchored by NBC News’ team of journalists, including Kate Snow, Aaron Gilchrist, Vicky Nguyen and Morgan Radford that’ll provide viewers with up-to-the-minute national and international news. NBC stations will also have the option to add local news instead, should they decide to go that route. “NBC News Daily” will also be streamed simultaneously on NBC News NOW and Peacock. “This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement with viewers,” said Mark Lazarus, Chairman, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “With a large percentage of the ‘Days of our Lives’ audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers.” NBC-owned stations will announce their specific daytime schedule soon. 17. Ahead of the show’s fourth season finale airing later this month, Freeform has given a green light to a fifth season of drama series “Good Trouble.” The announcement came during Tuesday’s virtual TCA press tour session. “Freeform is evolving with young adults because we are not about an age — Freeform is an attitude,” said the network’s president Tara Duncan during opening remarks. “Series like ‘Good Trouble’ — which I am happy to announce today is being picked up for its fifth season — and our flagship series ‘Grown-ish’ and more recently ‘Cruel Summer,’ ‘Single Drunk Female,’ ‘Everything’s Trash’ and ‘The Come Up,’ our newest series which we are paneling today.” “Good Trouble” follows the residents of Downtown Los Angeles’ The Coterie as they juggle career, love and the 20-something growing pains at a time in your life where your friends are your family. “General Hospital” alum Bryan Craig joined the cast during season four as a series regular, playing the role of Joaquin, an independent investigative journalist with a mysterious background. Created by Joanna Johnson (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg, the series, a spinoff of “The Fosters,” stars Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez, Tommy Martinez, Emma Hunton, Sherry Cola, Zuri Adele, Beau Mirchoff, Josh Pence and Priscilla Quintana along with the aforementioned Craig. Johnson serves as showrunner and executive producer. Christine Sacani, Greg Gugliotta, Jennifer Lopez, Benny Medina, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez also executive produce. So far this season, “Good Trouble” ranks among the year’s top 10 ad-supported cable dramas among Women 18-34, a core sales demographic for the network. 18. “One Life to Live” alum Trevor St. John (ex-Todd Manning/Victor Lord, Jr.) is joining the cast of “The Young and the Restless.” According to Deadline, which first reported the news, St. John begins taping this month and will first air sometime later this fall on the drama series. No additional details have been released, particularly regarding who he’ll be playing on the soap or the actors/characters he’ll be interacting with. Since “One Life to Live” concluded its ABC run in 2012, and its brief online reboot in 2013, St. John has gone on to appear in episodes of “The Client List,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “The Mentalist,” “CSI: Cyber” and “The Fosters,” among many other shows. He starred in multiple episodes of the “Youthful Daze” web series and The CW’s “Roswell, New Mexico.” More recently he appeared in ABC’s “Promised Land.” Set to premiere its 50th season in September, “The Young and the Restless” remains daytime broadcast’s most-watched scripted series. 19. During the week of July 25-31, 2022, every daytime broadcast series saw significant gains over the same week last year with “The Price is Right” (3.785 million / 4.362 million) leading the pack, gaining +235,000 and +331,000, respectively, for each half hour. In fact, the game show which aired reruns on four of the five-day broadcast week was also up week to week, gaining +109,000 and +141,000 viewers, respectively. “The Bold and the Beautiful” (3.174 million) was the standout performer for the week, tying for number one in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating. The series tied for number one in Women 25-54 with the second half-hour of “The Price is Right,” each with a 0.7 rating, respectively, and beat out lead-in “The Young and the Restless” (3.464 million) in the demo. The two soap operas did, however, tie for number one in Women 18-49 with both half hours of “The Price is Right,” each with a 0.4 rating. “The View” (2.309 million) had a good week, gaining +85,000 viewers week to week and +120,000 viewers over the same week last year. Meanwhile, “General Hospital” (2.135 million) was down week to week, losing -17,000 viewers while seeing a year to year gain of +63,000. “Days of our Lives” (1.670 million), “TODAY 3rd Hour” (1.985 million) and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (1.432 million) did not air during the same week last year due to NBC’s coverage of the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic games. What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of July 25-31, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. 20. The reunion between Steffy and Finn (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood and Tanner Novlan) is just getting underway this week on “The Bold and the Beautiful” but the week leading up to the event saw the daytime drama series attract its best overall audience in more than two months and tying for number one in both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, respectively. In fact, the half-hour series beat lead-in “The Young and the Restless” outright in Women 25-54 (0.7/9 rating/share vs 0.6/10 rating/share). During the week of July 25-31, 2022, “B&B” continued to rank fourth in Total Viewers, averaging 3.174 million viewers, an increase of +153,000 viewers week to week which was also the largest for any daytime broadcast series and the soap’s best showing since the week of May 16-20, 2022. In Women 25-54, the series tied the second half-hour of “The Price is Right” to rank first among daytime broadcast, each with a 0.7 rating. “B&B” surged week to week in the demo, up +0.2, while the game show was flat week to week. In Women 18-49, the soap garnered a 0.4 rating and was up +0.1 week to week. The series tied for first place with both half hours of “The Price is Right” and “The Young and the Restless,” the latter of which also saw a week to week increase of +0.1 in the demo. Both half hours of the game show were flat week to week. Overall, “The Bold and the Beautiful” was up +260,000 viewers over the same week last year and up +1.1 million viewers over the comparable week in 2020 when the soap aired its first full week of original episodes that didn’t include a recap show following its return to production during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. A full look at daytime broadcast for the week of July 25-31, 2022 will be posted shortly. 21. Monte Carlo appears in scenes through at least Wednesday, August 3 or Thursday, August 4.
  22. For the first time since their characters parted ways on “The Bold and the Beautiful” after being shot by Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) in an alleyway, actors Jacqueline MacInnes Wood and Tanner Novlan reunited on-screen during the Friday, July 29 episode of CBS’ “The Talk.” The pair discussed Steffy and Finn’s emotional reunion that will air next week on the daytime drama series in scenes that were shot on-location from Monte Carlo during last month’s annual TV Festival. They also shared insight into their personal lives as both Wood and Novlan’s families recently expanded. Teasing what’s to come on the soap, Wood told the co-hosts, “Steffy is heartbroken. She’s grieving. She has to try to move on with her life and try to heal. She can’t be in Los Angeles anymore…just everything reminds her of Finn and she has to raise their son on her own, so yeah, she is truly broken so she decides to go away, go to Monte Carlo… beautiful place, and just try to move on the best way she can.” Meanwhile, Novlan points out, “It’s nice to see that Steffy is kinda mourning because usually she kinda takes off with another man, so I think Finn’s like, ‘I gotta get to Steffy in a hurry, you know what I mean? We got a reputation around here!’ [sternly said in a joking manner], but no, their love is so deep and so connected, and I think they have a really mature relationship and he’s doing everything he can to get back to his family.” Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, Tanner Novlan (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) Photo by Sean Smith/CBS When Sheryl Underwood pointed out how much she was looking forward to the reunion between the characters, which will likely include music and slow-motion reactions, among other things, Novlan promised her, saying, “It’s gonna be epic.” He added, “This’ll be one of the ones that I think they play the reels and the highlights over the years. It’s so good.” Chiming in, Wood revealed, “It’s romantic, it’s passionate and raw too. There will be real emotions so the SINN fans will be so excited to see how we reunite.” “I got to meet a prince!” Novlan said when asked about the experience of being in Monte Carlo. “I’m from a small town. I was a little nervous. I didn’t know what to do. Do you bow? I don’t know… [they were like] ‘No, you just shake his hand. It’s fine. He’s normal.’ He was cool.” As for shooting scenes in Monte Carlo, Wood said, “It’s incredible, it’s so amazing that we get to film there, and the 35th anniversary was just such a moment for us especially when we haven’t been back in years, but to know that the show has been on for 35 years and we all got to celebrate. It’s really, really special.” Welcoming her third child in May, Wood shared that the experience has been amazing. “I guess you could say I’m dancing in the chaos right now because technically it’s like three under three, but I just tell myself to enjoy this moment because it goes by so quickly and just to appreciate the little achievements. I think we all try to get everything done all in one day and we’re so hard on ourselves, and if I can get three laps around my kitchen island and get dishes done, laundry…yes, great!” For Novlan, his second child came in early June. “Our little guy came a little early. He surprised us seven weeks early which was pretty crazy at our house. He’s happy, he’s healthy and very grateful. He had to stay in the NICU for five weeks and so much gratitude to the nurses and the doctors and those kinds of people when you really need them, they’re there…it blew me away. All through his rehab at the NICU was wonderful but now he’s home with us, and he’s beefing up and he’s healthy.” Natalie Morales noted to Novlan that he and his newborn son, Jones, are birthday twins as they were both born on June 6 and that she really liked the name. Novlan shared that he and his wife Kayla Ewell named their son after the title character in Indiana Jones. “A little nod to Indiana Jones… my wife’s a big Indie fan.” Check out Wood and Novlan’s appearance on “The Talk” below.
