  1. “Falcon Crest” actor William Moses and “Star Trek: The Next Generation” star Denise Crosby are joining the cast of “General Hospital,” reports Soap Opera Digest. Photo by Ricky Middlesworth/ABC The duo will portray Jeff and Carolyn Webber, Elizabeth’s (Rebecca Herbst) parents, who’ve been missing from the canvas for an extended period. In the case of Liz’s mother, Carolyn has never appeared on the show but has been mentioned from time to time. Richard Dean Anderson played the role of Jeff from 1976-1981. Moses is making his daytime debut on the ABC series, although he does have a prior connection to the soap via his older brother, Rick Moses, who appeared as a hit man named Hutch in 1980 during the Luke and Laura “Left-Handed Boy” storyline. Also in 1980, Crosby appeared as Lisa Davis on “Days of our Lives.” The actress has appeared in numerous shows since her breakout role as Lt. Tasha Yar in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” including her reprising the character in voice form in several “Star Trek” themed video games. She recently played the Secretary of the Navy in an episode of “NCIS” and had a recurring role as Faye Richardson during the final season of “Suits.” In addition to “Falcon Crest,” Moses’ credits include “The Love Boat,” “Melrose Place,” “Fame L.A.,” “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” and more recently “How to Get Away with Murder,” among others. No first air date was announced at press time. Note: The post William Moses and Denise Crosby Join ‘General Hospital’ as Elizabeth’s Parents appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 2. When Sean Kanan returned to “The Bold and the Beautiful” last year as Deacon Sharpe, many wondered how long the character would be able to stick around, considering he’d been in prison for some time as a result of his prior dealings with the Forresters and the Logans. With Deacon entangled with Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown), who is currently on the run from the Los Angeles Police Department for shooting Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn (Tanner Nolan), who is Sheila’s biological son, it would appear Deacon’s aiding and abetting of Sheila would make his days numbered on the soap. You’d be wrong, however, as it turns out the show has long-term plans for the character now that Kanan has signed a new deal with the drama series. In an interview with Daytime Confidential, Kanan reveals that he has signed a new two-year contract with the Bell-Phillip Television Productions-produced soap, keeping him on the show through at least season 37 of the series. “I like to stay busy and do a lot of different things. I’m having a blast working on ‘The Bold and the Beautiful,'” said Kanan to the outlet, adding, “It’s just been a really wonderful, special time in my life right now. It’s a lot of abundance.” In addition to “The Bold and the Beautiful,” Kanan recently reprised his role as Mike Barnes from “The Karate Kid III” during the current fifth season of the Netflix series “Cobra Kai.” In getting to play the character again, Kanan says, “It’s amazing and humbling to me that a role I played 34 years ago still has relevance and interest in the hearts of fans. So, I’m incredibly flattered and I’m so fortunate.” He adds, “… I got the opportunity to play the character of a much more, emotionally diverse and multi-dimensional guy than he was in ‘The Karate Kid III.’ That was one of the things that I spoke to the creators about. I told them I’d obviously love to come back, but there are two prerequisites that I’d like to put on the table. He would be a much more evolved character, because he’s 30 plus years down the road. He’s had all that life experience and opportunity to change one-way or the other. The other is that we inject some humor into it. One of the greatest things about Cobra Kai is the humor. I definitely have a pretty strong comedic background that I wanted to bring that to it. They graciously checked both of the boxes.” Photo by Curtis Bonds Baker/Netflix Should the show’s creators include the Mike Barnes character in season six, Kanan would be interested in returning. “Absolutely! Of course! Are you kidding me? I had a blast! It was definitely one of the top three best work experiences I’ve ever had. It was just so much fun, and I would do it again in a heartbeat,” Kanan notes. Outside of acting, Kanan is an accomplished author who, in late November/early December, is set to release his fourth book, “Way of the Cobra: Welcome to the Kumite,” which picks up where “Way of the Cobra” left off but functions as a standalone book. “The logline is defeating your greatest opponent. The greatest opponent, of course, is you. What that requires is a metaphoric death. Every day, you’re killing the person you were yesterday to re-emerge as a better and stronger version of yourself the next day,” says Kanan, explaining the book’s message. He adds, “The ability to constantly evolve and improve is the essence of ‘Welcome to the Kumite.’ Kumite refers to two things. It’s a form of training to prepare for an adversary in Japanese Karate. It’s also an epic battle. It was made most famous from the movie Bloodsport with Jean-Claude Van Damme, when he won the Kumite. So, I thought that was an interesting title to use.” For more from Kanan, including his recent cross-over appearance on “The Young and the Restless” working alongside Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman), and his additional thoughts on “The Karate Kid III” and “Cobra Kai,” make sure to check out his interview with Daytime Confidential, here. 3. Congratulations to “The Young and the Restless” star Rory Gibson (Noah Newman), who this weekend got engaged to Alicia Ruelas, his girlfriend of over ten years. The happy event took place at Mākena Beach in Maui, Hawaii. “AHHHH! I’m going to be future Mrs. Gibson I’m in shock!!!” wrote Ruelas on Instagram, alongside several photos of the couple, including a close up shot of the diamond engagement ring on her finger. For his part, Gibson posted the “heart on fire” and the “ring” emojis to reflect his feelings. Across both Instagram accounts, the happy couple’s news has received more than 3,000 likes since being posted on Sunday afternoon. Check out the couple’s photos below. 4. Yes, that’s how it’s supposed to have looked all this time but I didn’t know the setting for it until I was searching settings for the primetime forum and came across it. The option was to have post stats under the first post (which is how we always had it) or on the side bar.
  5. I played around with some settings a few months back which clearly impacted the Primetime forum in particular. I think I figured out what I did and I believe it’s since been corrected. If not, let me know. Separately, to help combat the threads in the network/streaming forums vs threads that aren’t, how would you (or anyone else) suggest fixing this? I have an idea, but I’m open to hearing other opinions. Not going to happen. The last time we had that feature was when it was directly offered by Invision. It stopped working after awhile and I don’t believe it’s a feature within the software anymore outside of maybe a third party provider. Coupled with no ability to to moderate discussion there’s no chance that feature will return. I agree with this which is probably why it’s not implemented on the forums currently (it’s been awhile). I saw that the software provider does have a feature like a like/dislike button on their own forums so I presume there’s a setting for this somewhere in our system but a like/dislike feature I agree would likely cause more disruption than be meaningful in any way. Considering YouTube was forced to get rid of their own dislike feature in the sense that the public doesn’t see the ratio themselves I can only imagine how some would use it here. To be clear, I don’t think anyone use in negatively out of spite but the response from others might not be as thrilling.
  6. When referencing ratings, I think we should be careful in distinguishing Household rating vs demo rating. When I see 5.0 and above used to reference the 1980s figures for some shows, I immediately think it’s households but in reality it is Adults 18-49. But that’s not stated. Just a thought.
  7. Dear Members, Over the next several weeks, we will be making slight changes to the SON Community with much of the changes taking place behind the scenes, more from a technical standpoint than anything else — nothing to do with staffing. There will also be a design change that will impact how you view the message boards. First and foremost, we are currently in the process of transitioning to a new service provider who will be better equipped to handle the massive amount of data we’ve accumulated since 2005, our most current iteration of the SON Community. Our new provider will also be able to provide a more hands on approach on matters that I myself can no longer handle, outside of moderation. This means they’ll be able to correct bugs/glitches in real time and directly implement new features that enhance the user experience instead of us having to wait for the next software update. This will help relieve a lot of the burden off myself in handling those matters and will allow me to better engage with users directly, which is something I quite enjoy. Note: Members will be notified at least one week in advance of when the service provider change will take place. In terms of design, plans call for the SON Community to better align itself with the design of the Soap Opera Network website while still maintaining its own unique style. Our current software provider will remain so there will not be any changes requiring users to do anything on their end. Additionally, there will be no significant changes made to the individual forums in terms of topics, categories, etc. Any alterations made is being done to enhance, not distract or confuse. To help during the transition period, we welcome feedback from our members on what you all would like to see added to the SON Community. This can be a design feature, a nice add-on, a new forum, etc. We will consider any/all options and try our best to accommodate what we can, if possible. Regards, - Errol
  8. There’s no evidence of that being true. Don’t believe what you’re reading on Twitter because the only source saying that is sketchy. Thanks. Clearly, I misunderstood a part of it and it seems like they don’t want monthly subscribers. They want to lock in the annual people so they can juice their numbers to Wall Street.
  9. In September, Peacock offered a considerable discount on its Premium with ads plan in the hopes of driving up subscriptions. Earlier this week, the service quietly brought back the limited time offer, but only for those who sign up for the annual plan which goes for $19.99 for one year, down from the regular price of $49.99. The offer is valid only through Saturday, November 19, 2022. New subscribers will be able to enjoy access to next day episodes of some of their favorite NBC and Bravo shows, including the “Chicago,” “Law & Order,” “Real Housewives” and “Below Deck” franchises, along with Peacock originals “Days of our Lives,” “A Friend of the Family” and “Vampire Academy,” among others. Additionally, recent box office draws like “Jurassic World: Dominion,” “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “Beast” are available on Peacock, with all three at the top of the trending charts. This weekend, “Halloween Ends,” the final chapter in the “Halloween” franchise, opens wide in theaters and Peacock is the only place outside of the multiplex where horror fans can currently enjoy the film from the comfort of their own home. The Michael Myers movie is expected to take in an estimated $43 million at this weekend’s box office, a slight drop from the performance of 2021’s “Halloween Kills.” To take advantage of the special price offering, sign up via PeacockTV.com no later than Saturday, November 19, 2022. Once the deal is gone, it’s gone (unless they bring it back again, of course!) Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article indicated Peacock was also offering a discounted $1.99 a month subscription like it did in September. That’s incorrect. This time, Peacock is only offering a discount off of its premium (with ads) plan for those who subscribe to the service for one year. 10. (Note: Due to travel over the next couple of weeks, the daytime broadcast ratings will be posted on Wednesdays or Thursdays) During the week of October 3-7, 2022, the third full week of the 2022-2023 daytime broadcast television season, CBS soaps “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.897 million) and “The Young and the Restless” (3.297 million) rebounded, with the latter up from one week earlier and the former posting its best performance among Total Viewers since the week of August 8-12, 2022. The same can be said for “The Price is Right” (3.774 million / 4.293 million), which also had its best performance among viewers since the same week in August. Compared to the same week last year, however, the CBS shows were down, with the second half-hour of “Price” losing the most, down -333,000 viewers. Also losing viewers was “NBC News Daily” (1.069 million) which had the most significant week-to-week drop, down -243,000 viewers, marking its first week-to-week decrease since its mid-September launch. The news program was also off -550,000 viewers from the performance of “Days of our Lives” compared to the same week last year and down -644,000 from the soap opera’s performance in 2020. Further, after dropping the gap between it and “The Talk” (1.357 million) to just under 50,000 viewers last week, the gap widened to +288,000 viewers in favor of CBS’ talk show. In the key sales demos, “NBC News Daily” managed to beat “The Talk” in Women 25-54 viewers (107,000 vs. 104,000) while “The Talk” fended off “NBC News Daily” in Women 18-49 viewers (169,000 vs. 145,000). “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (1.544 million) had its best performance against “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (1.546 million) in quite a while, with just 2,000 viewers separating the two among Total Viewers. Meanwhile, “The View” (2.222 million) had its best performance this season among Total Viewers, continuing to rank as the highest-rated and most-watched show season to date among daytime broadcast/syndicated talk shows and news programs. “General Hospital” (2.119 million) was down year to year and week to week among Total Viewers but saw an increase over its comparable performance in 2020, gaining +96,000 viewers. Only two other daytime broadcast shows also saw increases compared to 2020, including “Y&R” (+219,000 viewers) and “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” (+35,000 viewers). What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of October 3-7, 2022 in Women 18-49 rating, Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance in 2021 and 2020, respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including their daily performance in the demos, will be posted on Thursday. 11. After the September 28 hearing was postponed as a precaution leading up to Hurricane Ian, the January 6th Committee announced last week that the rescheduled hearing will now occur today, October 13, beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT. As a result, “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “General Hospital,” “GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “The Talk” will be preempted. Episodes of the daytime soaps will be pushed forward by a day, meaning that today’s previously scheduled episodes will now air tomorrow, October 14. Additionally, with Emma Samms reportedly set to reprise her role as Holly Sutton on “GH,” with her first air date originally set for Wednesday, October 19, the actress will instead return to the show on Thursday, October 20, barring any additional preemptions. As has been chiefly the case since the daytime portion of the hearings began in June, “The Young and the Restless” will air an all-new episode for its first half-hour before the network transitions to a CBS News special report at 1:00 p.m. ET, anchored by “CBS Evening News” anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell. Joining O’Donnell on CBS will be chief political analyst and senior national correspondent John Dickerson, chief election and campaign correspondent Robert Costa, chief national affairs and justice correspondent Jeff Pegues, senior White House and political correspondent Ed O’Keefe, senior investigative correspondent Catherine Herridge and congressional correspondent Scott MacFarlane. In addition to the broadcast and cable networks, the hearing will also be available to stream across social media, including YouTube. 12. I think it was a mistake. Based on wording it sounds like they meant to say “Very glad she’s back on the canvas…” but it seems like they did the @ symbol and typed the letter V. When you do that your name appears as the first V option.
  13. Thanks for the heads up. Proves one thing, Peacock is still desperate for subscribers and that the deal worked somehwat in getting people to subscribe to the service. But can it survive off of additional paying subscribers who paid reduced a price? For instance, instead of say two million subscribers paying $4.99 a month ($9.980 million), you’re only getting two million subscribers paying $1.99 ($3.980 million). That’s a six million dollar PER MONTH loss they’ll have to make up from somewhere. They were created exclusively for Peacock, so no. I believe the Peacock only (produced after move to Peacock) episodes of Days of our Lives will also be expiring, unless there is an adjustment to the current contract that allows episodes produced post-Peacock move to stay on the service longer. Should Peacock renew the show for an additional season, or longer, that contract should provide longer streaming rights.
  14. They are only able to provide one year of DAYS on streaming, per its license agreement with Corday/Sony. Hence, expiring episodes.
  15. LOL. I have a long memory since I got here early enough. I forget what that other message board was called that preceded SON, but there was another spinoff board from it that was run by rivals of @Toups and Alyssa (lol) that didn’t survive, obviously. It was yet another soap opera spoiler heavy site (message board) — but those don’t last, btw. Once sources dry up, what else do you got? That’s why SON has lasted as long as it has because we’re more than spoilers as you noted above. Because of the kinds of discussions happening on the SON Community, I feel comfortable delving into some outside of the box stories for the site because I know y’all will actually read them or find them of interest. Other soap opera sites I find are boxed in because they don’t have that audience. Every single contributor to the SON Community discussion forums I value because collectively we’re all made smarter by the knowledge brought to a conversation that would otherwise be an A or B conversation. We drag it from A-Z, leaving no crumbs on the floor. We have our fun. We have our disagreements. We have our griveances and we have our bickering. But as long as @Toups and I are around, we’ll still have @Soap Opera Network. Thanks! I’ve definitely mellowed out from my early 20s. I thought that to be taken seriously you had to be commanding. You had to be a virtual dictator. Anyone who is still around and worked with me, @Toups especially, knows how I used to be. I now know I stressed myself out for no reason as I didn’t need to be any of that while still being able to get things done. Sadly, some people have come and gone knowing me that way and we no longer talk but that’s okay. You learn to grow and you meet new people as you do. Ultimately, had I stayed that way I doubt SON would have outlived the lifespans of some long gone soaps (outlived Santa Barbara, Loving, The City, Generations, Ryan’s Hope, Port Charles, Passions, Sunset Beach, etc). We’re actually a long running soap in our own right, if you think about it. Hahaha.
  16. This summer, Netflix released a romantic comedy about a young woman who loses her job the same day she catches her boyfriend cheating on her. Hoping to start things over, Sofia (Riley Dandy) meets a dashing Spanish chef who might be the missing ingredient to her beating heart. The movie is called “That’s Amor” and features soapers Gregory Zarian (“Venice: The Series”) and Bryan Craig (“General Hospital”). While Craig plays the cheating boyfriend, Zarian’s David and his partner Todd (Paul Witten) help guide audiences into a world of Spanish dishes that establish the scene for romance between Sofia and Matias (Isaac Gonzalez Rossi). In an interview with Soap Opera Network, Zarian talks about what it was like working on the movie, whether we might see more of our cooking characters, and reveals that “Venice: The Series” is coming back for a seventh season, albeit the latter portion was discussed off-camera, post-interview (sorry) In its first two weeks of release, the film debuted in ninth place among Netflix’s Global Top 10 list, ranking in 36 countries, with 10.470 million hours viewed. In week two, the movie shot to fourth place in the Global Top 10 list, ranking in 70 countries, with 17.420 million hours viewed. Since then, the film has been a consistent daily pick for Netflix users. The movie cast includes Daniel Edward More, Arlene Tur, Kimberly Drummond, Christina Moore, Rose Portillo, Suleka Mathew, John Ducey and Nancy Lenehan. Shaun Paul Piccinino directed the film from a script by John Ducey. Watch our conversation with Zarian below. Note: Apologies for my audio. I’m generally a fast talker and my audio couldn’t even keep up at times. Also, the darkness (besides skin tone) is due to poor lighting on the day of filming. One of the lights wasn’t working as it should. All bugs have since been fixed going forward. 17. Yes, they will. They were supposed to be preempted on September 28 (B&B/GH) but then it got canceled so they aired as expected. This means Emma Samms won't air until Thursday, October 20 now. TV listing sites need more advance notice to update their schedules. They'll probably have the updated hearing scheduled by maybe Monday or Tuesday in their systems.
  18. Happy you did, too! That goes for everyone!
  19. The only other female I can thin of is Venus (aka: @Queen_Nubia). We weren’t really strong on female representation, oddly, considering soaps is a female driven business. I avoid the archives to the point I forget they exist. Too much evidence of what an asshole I used to be. If anyone still thinks I am one, okay…but I used to be far worse, lol. We can change. Hahaha. In my world, sex, fine…18. Everything else? 21 If you can die for your country you should be able to drink and do stupid stuff while going out with a literal bang. That is a tramatizing gif. The liquid inside does look quite chill though.
  20. She and I had a disagreement about something inappropriate she did. She decided to leave shortly after. There were some great mods in the past. Not sure who you’re referring to though. The most recent mods were @Scotty and @Angela Oddly it’s been able to have sex and go to war for three years now, yet only now it can drink and gamble too. Stupid American laws. Lol.
  21. Long story. The current iteration of the message boards was launched on September 11, 2005 (unfortunate date). The original birthday of the SON Community was October 8, 2001, as launched by @Toups and Alyssa via ezBoard. The community became its own .com in November 2002. We’ve honored the original launch date as SON’s birthday. Fun fact: While at least two websites were created by some of SON’s original users (won’t name them) after internal matters resulted in an unofficial split, SON itself was created from another message board with its own dramatic history (prior to my tenure and @Toups wasn’t part of the drama, to be clear). Ultimately, SON remains the largest and most active community following that situation. I joined the original SON (ezBoard) in April 2002. Became a moderator in August 2002 and admin in October 2002. I, along with Toups have run the community together since early 2003 (around March or so) following Alyssa’s departure. Never met her to be clear.
