Fox News calls Olbermann 'over the line'

PASADENA, Calif. - Fox News Channel chairman and CEO Roger Ailes responded to Keith Olbermann's latest critical volley against Bill O'Reilly on Monday, saying the MSNBC host's behavior "is over the line."

Ailes, appearing at the summer meeting of the Television Critics Association, said Olbermann takes shots at Fox's O'Reilly because it boosts his ratings.

"Clearly he has no viewers except those he gets when he attacks Fox News, and particularly has made himself committed to continuing to attack Bill," Ailes said.

Olbermann opened his Saturday session at the critics' meeting by whipping out a mask of O'Reilly and giving a Nazi salute.

"I really think that's over the line," Ailes said.

During his "Countdown" show on MSNBC, Olbermann regularly tweaks O'Reilly. Olbermann has named O'Reilly his "Worst Person in the World" at least 15 times. The nightly "award" is Olbermann's way of criticizing what he deems bad behavior.

O'Reilly has referred to Olbermann — although not by name — as a "notorious smear merchant" and pointed out the low ratings for "Countdown."

"The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox is No. 1 in the cable TV news ratings. Olbermann generally runs third in the same time slot.

Also Monday, Ailes said Fox will mark its 10th anniversary with a "Thank You America" tour this fall. Shows fronted by O'Reilly, Shepard Smith, Greta Van Susteren, Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes, and Neil Cavuto will do live versions of their shows from 10 cities around the country, including Boston, Chicago, Dallas and San Diego.

Well I for one love Keith Olbermann, and hate Bill O'Rielly and Fox News Channel with a passion. So you go Keith, tell it like it is!

Amazingly, those phone sex calls don't even rate to the massive sex scandal between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky, the infamous blue, "soiled" dress and all those taped conversations. Yet, many liberals would support Clinton in that instance, and crucify O'Reilly for VASTLY minor indiscretions, in comparison. Why is that?

Yes exactly. While it may be wrong, what Clinton did was not the first time a U.S. President did the same thing. But it really didn't affect his running the country. He was a pretty good President. We were a lot better off in this country from 1993-2001 with Bill Clinton than we have been since 2001 with Bush.

Just look at the all the idiotic things he has gotten us involved in during the last 5 1/2 years. There have been so many it would take all night to list them. If Bush and the Republicans are so great, honest and popular...then why have they been abandoning their own President and why has Bush's approval rating been hovering below 35 percent? And why did it take him 5 1/2 years to talk to the NAACP?

Many things have gone downhill in this country since 2001, and we have a shi*load more to worry about these days than who the President is having sexual relations with.

I agree, but I think private matters such as that are irrelevant. It obviously pales in comparison because getting a BJ from an intern doesn't affect the country. I mean, I could bring up the fact that Bush was a drunk and did cocaine, but I think how he runs the country (or doesn't run it) and how he's wasting billions of American dollars and thousands of lives on an unnecessary war are more important.

I don't exactly appreciate being called an "ass licker," in a derogatory way. I only brought up Clinton to compare liberals/conservatives, NOT presidents. Once again, the libs miss the point.
