Y&R: November 2026 Discussion Thread

Y&R just won the "Costume Design / Styling" Emmy for episode 13273, which aired Dec. 15, 2025 US (12/12/25 CDN). This was the Abbott Communications launch party which had had a theme for specific era in time.

It was filmed Oct. 27, 2025, so while the cast was all dressed up, they did a BTS Thriller dance. I think we said that BTS dancing was the most interesting thing on Y&R we discussed that month!

Just thought I'd repost last year's dancing to launch this new month.

Jamey & Dan were at the Emmys but there’s still no interview? New material is starting next week. Not even a little tease?

It used to be an event when a new HW team arrived and we always had an intro interview but its hit or miss now. I hate that. I'd love to see what their thoughts are coming into the show.

Now that my internet wants to work...

My feeling is Jamey/Dan won’t be afforded the same leeway and power Griffith had, and TPTB are keeping a tight lid on things to not give the public perception that the show is in a creatively bankrupt state. After all, ratings technically aren’t bad for whatever reason.

Just feels like they’re not going for any hype with this writing regime change - probably because if things don’t pan out, they would want to dump Jamey/Dan much quicker than they were able to with Griffith.

I’m so excited to potentially start watching again. God I want it to be good.

I was so excited about a new writing team, but the closer we get to the start of the regime change, the less hopeful I am.

As you guys know, I'm generally pessimistic, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I know we haven't heard much about the future, but we have heard about a couple cast changes, and those don't encourage me.

I think Josh's last months have been as bad as his last few years, and I don't see any new team influence on story direction. I don't see anything about a youth movement. I don't see any sign that Matt Clark is leaving for good.

How much leeway will Jamey and Dan be given? I don't agree they'll be on a short leash. That has never been this so show's way, and besides, we already know viewers don't desert Y&R when stories go bad.

The show does look better. I will say that. Still, too many scenes take place in bars or restaurants.

This cast, though, is tired.

We have good actors who are stuck in relationships that are bad or boring, and their business stories are a disaster. Kids are missing all over the place.

It's all so bad -- or at least my attitude is -- that I'm wondering if anything can be done to save it.

As long as viewership stays over 3M, I don't think CBS will care.

I'm keeping expectations low. I just don't see anyone being able to overcome the structural budget issues. All a good writer can do is write more interesting conversations at the bar. They need a producer who will rip up the entire production model and it's not going to happen.

I wish they’d bring back that little room at NE where people would meet for coffee, it had a sink and a table etc. it’s where Dru and Carmen infamously fought. Sharon and Phyllis had a lot of run ins there as well. I’m thinking it was around 2006-2008ish? I wonder when that set was last used.

Characters on Y&R talk about Fairmont Crest as if it were a city. But it's really just a gated community out in the suburbs near Washington DC. There is no airport in Fairmont Crest, so I assume they will be flying into Washington, but perhaps some city in Maryland. It is just a little strange to hear people get so excited about visiting a neighborhood. Most people would probably refer to the nearest city, rather than a neighborhood. But I realize all this is all because on Beyond the Gates, typically characters refer to their location as the DMV or Fairmont Crest, and they rarely refer to a city. That makes sense on Beyond the Gates, but out of context on another soap opera, it does sound awkward. It's not a big deal, really. But worth mentioning. No need to tell me it's just a soap.

Could it be that Fairmont Crest is more of a suburb? I think of it like Real Housewives of Potomac where Potomac is the setting but they primarily film in DC.

I was more hopeful but the closer we get to their start, the less optimistic I am. Last week was a chore to watch and I feel like we should be seeing some influence this close to the switch over. It also worries me we don't have an interview with Jamey and Dan. I'm still going to sample it but I am feeling like we could end up with more of the same.
