That much was apparent by Sheri Anderson's response in the recent Michael Fairman interview when he asked about the lack of new blood in soap HW'ing positions. She made a fair point about needing experience to handle the demands of the job, but her dismissal of giving new talent a shot was also a classic case of a Boomer preserving the status quo, IMO.

This is the longest period of time that I remember the show announcing the exit of a Head Writer (or Executive Producer, but the former in this case) and not having a replacement named, even if temporary.

I feel like CBS/Sony might have a replacement in mind already; they're just needing to iron out some contractual stuff first.

If CBS/Sony were serious about hiring someone from primetime, then I would love to see someone like John Tinker ("St. Elsewhere," "L.A. Law") or Joseph Dougherty ("thirtysomething," "Pretty Little Liars") land the gig. Shows like "St. Elsewhere" and "thirtysomething" might be passé in primetime, but they wouldn't be passé in daytime!

Otherwise, if they are looking outside of daytime to fill JG's spot, then we're liable to get someone from one of Taylor Sheridan's 528 shows, in which case, I'm moving to New Hampshire to work on a tofu farm.

As I've said before, I think just about anyone from primetime or just outside daytime would be a step up and worth a shot at this point. I'll take new blood of any type! But what the show really needs (and likely won't get) is a writer of color to service its very loyal audience.

I agree. Especially about Y&R needing (but probably not getting) a (head) writer of color. (Unless that writer is Jamey Giddens. My people have suffered enough.)

Of course, writing a daytime drama that airs five days a week, 52-or-so weeks a year is a much different beast than writing and producing a primetime series that airs only once a week (and only so many weeks per year), so whoever they conned into taking the gig would need a Co-HW or Story Consultant to help them adjust to the rigors of soaps. My advice? If you can't convince Kay Alden to come back one more time, then ask Nancy Curlee, with the understanding that she wouldn't have to do all the heavy lifting and that she'd be free to bow out once everyone agreed that he/she/they has gotten the hang of it.

I can't even remember if Sheridan allows writers on his shows. He gets mad enough when talking about this that his poser cowboy hat almost falls off.

Taylor Sheridan is a journeyman actor turned producer who is the "genius" behind such inexplicable* hit shows as "Yellowstone" (and its' 4000 prequels and spinoffs), "Mayor of Kingstown," "Tulsa King," "Landman" and "The Madison," starring Michelle Pfeiffer. (He's also the only thing that's keeping Paramount + from being folded into the Petco app).

As a writer/producer/showrunner, Sheridan's philosophy is for his shows to have as little plot as possible, so he can focus more on characters. Which would be admirable, if his characters weren't two-dimensional and racist as hell. Subsequently, whenever I've caught a few moments of any of his shows in the past, I didn't feel I was watching a drama series so much as I was watching a recruitment video for the right-wing militia.

(I say "inexplicable," but I think it's obvious why his shows are so beloved. coughMAGAcough)

The only show of Taylor Sheridan's I've seen is "Lioness" and it's pretty much what Khan said -- it feels like a racist recruitment for right-wing militia. Don't know why Zoë Saldaña, Morgan Freeman, and Nicole Kidman are doing it. I guess it pays well. It's about a CIA team, I started watching it because the premise is this team is led by women so I was imagining Xena or Anna Devane type things. And also Thad Luckinbill (Y&R's J.T.Hellstrom) is in it. But it's about off-the-books CIA/NSA covert ops where the women are directed to do amoral killing of foreigners. Luckinbill's character is one of the amoral kill-everything team members. The show is really really bad. Well acted, horrible stories.

Because, as miserable as most of Taylor Sheridan's shows are, they're still watched by millions of people (who are too stupid to live); and even an audience made up of knucle-draggin', cousin-lovin' trailer park dwellers is still an audience.

But to think: if the producers of "Sons of Anarchy," on which Sheridan had a recurring role, had agreed to give him a pay raise, he might not have decided to quit acting; and thus, we might've been spared from his writing and producing b.s. (Thanks for nothing, Kurt Sutter).
