I absolutely adore Jess Walton, but if she can't come back full-time, I think LK could be an interesting take on the character. I would love to have Jill, the only original character, back full-time.

  • Obviously, Josh Griffith has never met anyone who has survived a sexual assault; because, if he had, we wouldn't be forced to watch him and try and redeem a creep like Matt Clark just to give Roger Ho

I’m seriously hoping that now that Sally McDonald is the sole EP, she micromanages the sh!t out of Josh Griffith and makes his working life hell, thus forcing him to quit or have another nervous break

I want to think my post put something out in the universe this week to lead us here, 😂

Admittedly, I am biased as I'm a big fan of hers. I thought Lauren Koslow did very, very well as Jill.

She did not play Kate Roberts. Nor did she play Margo Lynley or Lindsay Wells. It was interesting to see her take on the character.

I agree; and given her recent interview, it seems like she was very intent on being sure she portrayed Jill and knew Jill's backstory since the last time she was on Y&R as Lindsay.

I love Jess Walton. I mean, I really LOVE her, and she's been aa perfect Jill.

That being said, I'm OK with a replacement if she doesn't want to work more often. This show really needs Jill on the canvas.

I took a closer look at Y&R full current cast and it’s shocking how many characters can go and literally no one would care.

Chelsea, Adam, Claire, Holden, Daniel, Tessa, Sally, Sienna, Patty, Matt

Make room for Charlie, Mattie, Faith, Reed, Katie, Johnny etc.

For returns bring back Chance, Hilary

Renegotiate the contacts for Nikki, Victor, Jack or honestly just drop them to recurring.

Phyllis, Nick, Sharon, Victoria can continue to have stories but don’t need to be front burner anymore.

Maybe then we could get back to having a healthy amount of sets again.

From that list, I'd keep Adam (for the time being - but you better step the hell up, Grossman!) and add Abby, Audra, Billy, Cane, Devon, Esther (yes, Esther), Lily, Mariah, Michael (eventually), Nate, Noah, Phyllis and Stephanie. (There are several other names I won't add to this list - not on the boards, anyway - because doing so would cause riots).

I actually wouldn't write anyone off... (I would very much like to write Sharon off though because I think she's completely played out and there's no coming back, but even I would try to avoid that temptation...). This is a case where maybe the low guarantees and number of recurring characters help... new writers can come in and just start mixing things up, start writing for those who are underutilized and slow fade others if you can't figure out what to do with them... and if something sparks, just keep writing. Other than a handful of vets, they're not stuck with contract players that have to be on all the time.

Subjectively I agree with some of these "lists of characters that suck and nothing would change if they disappeared" but many of the actors don't suck, the fault is 100% on the writing so it could change.

I see where you're coming from, @BoldRestless , but could we agree, at least, that Matty Jane need to go and NOW, lol?

Lord, yes! 🤣

I was referring more to the boring pointless characters, not the offensive cartoonish ones like Patty and Matt.

I think the only addition that has worked in the past few years has been Audra. They really should slowly build a family around her and get into her backstory. She had the potential to be the young vixen the show reallllllly needed, but they've dropped the ball.

Adam and Chelsea seem kinda redundant.

I'm just going to say it....I think Phyllis is beyond played out. I like Daniel, but I'm not sure where he'd fit in. I also liked Lucy and thought she'd be a great one to build a teen story around.

Matt, Sienna, and Patty are no-brainers.

I wish the show would write for Marian and Tessa, but they've let them wither away.

Devon seems a bit played out, but I'd find a way to keep him around. Ever since they made him super rich, he hasn't had much to do. What if he lost it all somehow?

We reallllly need more characters that AREN'T Newmans.

I love Eric B, but he's 85. At some point, the show has to think about what the future will be story-wise if he's unable to do the show at some point. That being said, I wish they could give Victor a story that taps into something emotional for him...not just the Jack-hate or breaking up with Nikki every few years...or being a jackass to his family.

I like Michael and Lauren, but they've been given scraps. Brining Fen back full-time would give them something to do and beef up that generation.

At this point, I also wonder how many actors who are listed as contract are really recurring.

Lauren did a great job as Jill. There was something of Jess in her speech patterns and mannerisms. I wonder if she watched some tapes of Jess?

Seeing Victor trying to summon some emotion about Nikki left me cold. He treats her like garbage. I hope she doesn't go running back to him as a result of this.

As for Phyllis overhearing Kyle and Jack at CL. Really? Although with no other customers ,it's probably easy to hear other people clearly.

Why doesn't Jack call the police????

There is no way that Bryton is on contract. Melissa made her recurring status public, but yes there are a few others that are obviously recurring. And to have Devon/Abby recurring is the best place for them. Devon the billionaire and Katherine's grandson was the nail in the coffin for him and the show has never invested in Abby as Victor and Ashley's daughter.

Plus Devon is boring as hell.

Audra needs to stay and be upgraded. Maybe be given a sibling who knows secrets from her past.

Phyllis is played out and needs to be reset in some way.

The next generation is badly needed to ease the current set into more supporting roles.

-- So Nikki is in surgery and Victoria, Nick, and Claire GO TO CRIMSON LIGHTS?? Are you kidding me with this?? This show never fails to suck.

-- "The country's top neurosurgeon" was contacted and brought in within a few hours. That's how powerful the Newmans are! 😂

-- Victor sitting in a chair talking to Stephanie. Deadly. Claire talking to Holden in the park. Deadly. Billy having the same argument with Cane and same resentment with Jill that we've seen 1000 times. Deadly.

That's where I am. I don't know how ANY of these actors could do any more with the way their characters are written. It's all so, so bad that I just can't blame any of them.

Well I'm going to let my bias show and claim Stafford could do LESS.

Gotta make sure he signs up for CarShield to protect the Ferrari he bought Nikki last year, in case he doesn't make it. 😉
