Forced Logout of All Users

Dear Members,

If you were logged into the SON Community at or before 3:03 p.m. ET today, May 3, please note that we forcibly logged everyone out of the site to continue our investigation into an issue that appears to be affecting a number of users, particularly our veterans. I have been spending days and nights investigating this issue and have reached out to tech support for assistance, but no resolution has been found yet. As a precaution, I was advised to log everyone out in the hope that it would be a solution. We are also investigating Cloudflare and its settings.

At present, we're told this is an end-user issue, not directly caused by the SON Community, as the Browser (E.g., Chrome) being used by some users is the primary issue, particularly since this matter is not affecting all users, and some of those impacted say they've been able to log in using a different browser altogether.

Regardless, I'm continuing to investigate, and I hope to have a resolution soon.

In the meantime, please make sure you are using the latest version of your preferred browser on both desktop and mobile. Older browsers can affect your ability to visit all kinds of websites, including the SON Community, even if the issue is not immediately visible. If you haven't updated your browser in the past six months or year, you are using an old browser.

Never experienced an issue staying logged in (in fact, I don't even log out). Hoping this doesn't begin to happen to me and that whoever this may be causing issues for is remedied.

I haven't been experiencing any issues, either.

@Errol , good luck in your investigation.

I haven't had issues either but after this forced logout, I noticed my name and mailbox/notifications are now on the left instead of the right. Not a problem, but freaked me out for a second thinking they were missing.

I'm one of the vets having issues. I was able to get on briefly earlier on Google Chrome when I posted the GH episode count. When I copy and pasted it from my document, it removed some of the asterisks, when I tried to add them back it would delete an asterisk either up or down sometimes going up multiple lines of text. It was also italize things randomly. After I posted, I realized I made an error and tried to edit but the board had logged me out and I couldn't get back in. The last several weeks I would notice I would be logged in when I came to the board but if I clicked on a topic I would notice I was logged out. I wasn't looking to post anything so I didn't worry about it then. I emptied my cache/cookies after this morning and that was when I could make my initial post. When I tried to login it just kept popping up with the login option over and over. I switched to Safari to make this post.

Thank you, @Errol for all the hard work you're doing to get this figured out! )

Thank you Errol. Just logged in again

It happened to me a few times. I would be logged in and when I would try and post something I would suddenly be logged out. It only happened to me on my phone though. It never happened on my laptop.

Thanks, Errol for your diligence.

I have experienced this for the past month or longer. What I figured out was that the forum software is automatically programmed to italicize anything between two asterisks, and simultaneously removing the asterisk punctuation marks. Even if the two asterisks are in separate sentences or paragraphs, it automatically assumes you are trying to italicize things. @Errol is there any way to make it stop doing that? As members posting episode counts usually use an asterisk at the beginning of any line that has the same rank as the actor in the above-line.

The only way I get around this currently, is do this
(must be done in this order)
first post the word/phrases I want to emphasize-but-not-italicize.
Then I put three spaces before and after the word.
Then I tack on "space, asterisk" AFTER the word/phrase I want to emphasize-but-not-italicize.
Then (and only then) I put "asterisk, space" BEFORE the word/phrase I want to emphasize-but-not-italicize.
Gotta do the AFTER, and then the BEFORE.

So the result is me emphasizing-but-not-italicizing the phrase "testing123" as follows:
* testing123 *
HOWEVER, that STILL doesn't work if I have another asterisk elsewhere (anywhere) within my same post. Because then it italicizes the whole segment of my post between asterisks.

This is definitely news to me, as I haven't experienced any issues. Then again, I am using Opera browser and cannot remember the last time I used Chrome.

Good luck with the investigation, I hope the reason for the issue surfaces soon.
