I don't care about Jan or her struggle hair.

Every time I see Jan I wish it was Kassie DePaiva playing the character and I think of what could be with her in the role.

Just now watching Wed-Fri.

Too bad Doug is dead. It would have nice to see him interact with kids.

I'm expecting Donnell to be the one who figures out the truth about Doug's death.

Too low key of a character for Kassie to play.

I was hoping that Eva would offer to do her hair for free in exchange of agreeing to talk to Leslie

I stepped away from BTG temporarily because I needed a break from Leslie whom I don't enjoy at all. For me she's not "love-to-hate". For me, I just want her gone
(I realize that's just me, and I know others enjoy her and that's fine.)
But I had planned to return to BTG eventually.

But then, meanwhile, my own life (real life) has become very very busy the past month, with no end in sight.  All I've had time for is watching clips of Monica's death and funeral on GH.  I couldn't do that *and* BTG right now, as I'm just too busy.  (busy in a good way).

I am glad to have devoted the past year and a half to regularly posting about it (on the behind-the-scenes thread before it started airing; and then posting daily once it began airing).  I have supported BTG as best I can.   And I take advantage of the sales at my local grocery store for Tide!

I was following BTG recaps and spoilers for a while but now I can't even keep up with that. However, I am enjoying reading this thread daily and still read all the posts, even if I don't exactly know anymore what scenes have just aired.

I don't know when/if I can come back to BTG regularly.  But I do still appreciate it!  and really appreciate everyone's posts!

I liked Jan's hair being put up on Friday's episode.. it was the best she's looked.

While I don't think Mona is class betrayal, I do think she's the type that makes work her whole life because she doesn't seem to have anything else in her life other than being a surrogate mom to Laura (the first week did hint at a backstory for Mona.. me thinks she gave up a child), church, and her Have Not get togethers.

I think Mona thinks of her job and Nicole/Duprees like a family, but they would fire her in a heartbeat if they were looking to cut staff/expenses.

The first week of the soap did seem to give little nuggets of story that could be told down the line...

- Mona's speech about not marrying nor having kids, looking at Laura as a surrogate mom (either Laura was her child, or perhaps she reminds her of the baby she gave up).

- Jan being a single mom, mentioned Ashley's dad wasn't the best of people, etc.

- Hayley mentioning she was an orphan.. and Dani taking her into the family hence why her stealing Bill was the ultimate betrayal to Dani/Naomi.

Will their backstories get more exposure down the line... or will they end up like Victoria Winters.. who never found out who she was.  TBD.

Since it's been on my mind...

I know a few of us have been mentioning that we have observe that a shift has slowly started to be going on in the show/writing. It's been on my mind in terms of figuring it out. It's probably my inner writer at play. The last few weeks, for me, has been giving what Late April was giving so I think the writers are shifting into what stories are going to make up November Sweeps. What appears to be standing out for me...

While I've been mixed feelings about the lack of one of the main A stories (which as I mentioned has always been from Week 1...Dani/Bill/Hayley, the SilkPress storyline, and Martin's Secret), it would seem over the last few weeks a forerunner has subtly emerged from my doubts. And that would be Dani/Bill/Hayley. And what has surprised me about that has been the fact that, in spite of all my issues with it over the summer, it really has emerged as one of my favorite storylines. It could be because it's been giving me late 90s Marlena/John/Kristen from DAYS (without a twin or secret room...YET) and that has made all the difference. The last time I made a mention about the development of the stories, I mentioned that Dani and Bill have been developed so well through the use of separate storylines so that once their story converged, the audience felt like they knew the characters more. And Karla and Timon have great chemistry. But I can say the same for Karla and Sean. The fact that what started as a nice B, but well-developed IMHO plot with Dani and Andre has turned into another layer and new direction for Dani/Bill/Hayley has been superb. Regardless of my worries for Dani/Andre, they have won me back over and continue to come across organically as they deal with their next issue...Dani's family and a pressed Bill.

I've been waiting for the drama to come when Bill felt a way about his ex-wife with someone else. And IT...IS...GIVING!!!! lol. That man is pressssssssssssed. So pressed he's hired an investigator (sidenote...could this be a way to get more into Andre's backstory...specifically how his parents died hmmm...foreshadowing?), got into it with Andre, threatened divorce on his NEW wife (after 7 months to boot hehe), and making out with his EX wife. Not to mention having performance anxiety. lol. Messy. Fun. Soap! I'm only sad that it is only now that Hayley has been getting development through her friendship with Caroline. Though to be fair, I've always mentioned that Hayley has almost always felt like a spoiler to Dani/Bill for me which might be why she has not been developed as much as the two of them. THEY are the story. She's just another obstacle to keep them apart. Speaking of...we still have the baby lie...waiting in the wings. I have picked on this show for going back to this well so soon, but I have to give credit where it's due...it is showing it got legs.

Meanwhile, the other major story going on has been the Doug/Vanessa/Joey storyline. It took a turn with Doug's death. And I've been enjoying the fallout. And the introduction of Doug's son has been a nice shift and does give the audience someone to root for (in case you are anti-Vanessa). And watching Joey trying to wiggle through it all is again giving shades of late 90s DAYS for me with all the near-misses while keeping a secret (or two) from characters I care about. I guess there was a lot of praise for AC. And...I missed it. But I like that the casting was on point on looks. And I feel he can act. So that's good enough for me, and I can't wait to see where it goes. This storyline was the strongest of the B storylines, and I love that it finally has been allowed to have its time in the sun, even if mileage varies.

Another B plot having its moment has been Kat vs Eva. This last week has been fun for them. And that rivalry has a way to go. But all of this over Tomas...who can't even be trusted? Yeeeah no. I need their rivalry back in other arenas like it was at the start. That said...it keeps the A story of SilkPress alive since she's really fallen into C Plot Land with her tale of moving behind the gates to work on that tacky house.

I love that over the last few weeks, they have been playing Martin and Smitty working to get back together. You're a soap and you are not having a couple fight to get back together?? Shame! But with them, they have been showing it. For better or for worse. It's surprising how they have come such a long way that you can root for them and shake your head or even just go ugh. Them sleeping together...only for it to resolve NOTHING was realistic. As was Martin's speech and moving out. And now they are trying for inroads. And I like that as they are working on getting closer...hints of Kenny's murder as well as the initial Crooked Cop storyline with Marcel has been popping back up in dialogue. I don't feel that is a coincidence. So...I am expecting some turn for them. I like that when the other shoe drops, I will be rooting for them and there will be some great acting.

In terms of the current C plots...

I am liking what has been started with Naomi and Jacob. I've liked them since Week 1 as the good guys/hero couple because every soap needs one. Naomi's fierce stance on her family. Jacob's observant skills. And now...Naomi's pregnant and does not want kids while Jacob wants a big family coming from one himself. Some realistic drama to allow us to get to know them more as characters and give them an issue between them? YES, PLEASE.

Don't hate me. But I'm liking the Dark Derek storyline. And how it has been playing out like a soap storyline. Derek realizing he has some feeling in his legs. Him not telling anyone. Shanice figuring it out cuz that's her job, but can't say anything. Jacob figuring it out cuz that's also what he does, but Derek using Friend code on him. And the fact that when anyone tries to mention it, a darkness pops up on Derek's face that was not there before with his 'dumb jock with a dream' face and acting he's been giving so far. Ashley is being set up for a big fall...and well...well-deserved, but surprisingly invested in watching.

Too early to tell how I feel about June/Ted/SilkPress. Since the writers play Ted's straight man to wacky women often.

And because I can't say it enough...CAN WE SEE NICOLE'S P.O.V? Such wasted opportunities and as my favorite character...even when she annoys...I just need more.

Side-note...don't hate me...but I've been liking Dani. Her quotes. Her hair. Her fashion. Karla Mosley has found her character and has been playing her to the hilt for me. I realized through the stuff with Andre how much I enjoy her. And her speech to Bill about why she would be for Andre...great acting from Karla...and I felt that to my soul. THAT's her throughline.

It sounds like this coming week is going to be building on a lot of this so I can't wait. I guess they have found a rhythm again. And I'm hoping like this past April that means they will find their momentum again.

I appreciate reading your thoughts, @Taoboi

Caught up. My thoughts: this felt like table setting going into sweeps.

It was a lot of people talking about their feelings and a lot of declarations of who loves who and who wants what from whom.

Awww thank you for this. It had been on my mind since we were discussing it briefly in the thread a few days ago and I wanted to put that out there. It is just surprisingly how the A stories have shifted for me in the last 3 months.

You better enjoy your life. ;) Good to hear. I've been so busy with life so I rarely am at home to watch it live myself so I completely understand. Same for SPS. From main villainess to C plot in 3 months.

But I expect some November Sweeps comments. 😜

Awww Monica's funeral...so well-done...and that montage (with AT Emily) I cried.

Not Victoria Winters...lol.

One thing that was clear when they repeated the first week like most of the first month...it was heavy with foreshadowing. So I wouldn't be surprised if those plot threads you mentioned will play a role in the future.

I was one of the few here that theorized that Mona might be Hayley's mother after that speech. And I'm still waiting to see if that will come into play. Moreso now that we are all waiting to know the connection between Hayley and Randy. And then I felt Dani telling Bill who she thought Hayley was last week was foreshadowing because Dani already was saying that Hayley was faking a pregnancy...and that turned out to be right. If Dani is right again, then the writers are going to have to reveal Hayley's backstory. Is it because Hayley is an orphan...OR is Hayley letting everyone THINK she's an orphan when she's really related to Randy and they have an unknown (for now) backstory with Bill that Bill don't know about aka revenge?
