I give more grace to other soaps on this because of said factors (it's decades of decisions that the current head writers have little control over), but when you have a clean slate and then it's down to choices because it's not done out of necessity. It just feels like taking all the wrong lessons from soaps.

Totally agree.

You would imagine that at least 2 years of story was mapped out before anything was written (subject to tweaks as things went along)

Some of the decisions made like the ages of characters, occupations chosen, no sets for certain characters etc were made from the get go and seem poorly thought out.

A firefighter? Politician who doesn't seem to work? No staff for rich characters?

To be honest, one of the biggest appeals for me with a new soap was that I wouldn't have to continuously bend the space/time continuum in my head to make some sort of sense of the timeline, but alas.

There are named housed staff for the Duprees but we almost never see them (if at all yet). I really can't fault them for that at present with the way soap budgets are now. It's not like the lux '80s or '90s for Y&R.

No we have never seen staff at the Duprees. Rowena has been mentioned.

I will fault them in that we have seen Mona and Laura working for Nicole and they seem to be able to have under 5's eg Maitre D last week that welcomed Leslie at the Country Club and nurses, doctors, delivery people  etc

We would only have to see Rowena occasionally but it would add to the 'realism'

On thing I meant to discuss but forgot to is if Bill is going to go homophobic on Chelsea. Realistically not every family member is going to be accepting and the show should reflect that.

I was curious about that as well especially given Chelsea made a big show of introducing Madison to literally everyone in her family as her girlfriend EXCEPT for Bill.

Speaking for myself, I came out to my family in the early 80s and no one cared at all. Not my Dad, Mom, siblings, Grandparents, no one. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I do realize I am lucky.

My point is, it's not unrealistic for family members just embrace their gay family members.

Personally, I'm hoping Bill doesn't make a big deal out of it.

I think that is what Chelsea is worried about but remember Bill told Hayley he wouldn't care if their fake baby was gay. I will say, I did find it amusing that Chelsea referred to Madison as her friend. At least in my experience, that is so common in the Black community so I enjoyed seeing them put a spin on that.

Bill doesnt come across homophobic and I think Chelsea's feelings are all in her head. He's so loving of her and considering she iced him out and now almost died, I cant see him rejecting her bc she's bi. I hope they dont go that route. Its such a dated story cliche that I dont feel would be true to Bill's character

I hope the kidnapper isn't Alison. Seems too obvious. One thing this show has done well is good twists. Please don't fail me now. lol.

Liking Martin/Samantha scenes but they seem like older brother/younger sister.

Chelsea cant reach her phone but of course she's too dumb to use the blankets or pillow on the bed to knock it over

Whelp, it was Alison, shocker haha. I hope she's chained up for a while though. I hope she isn't saved and Alison thrown in jail by Friday.
