I've been saying for awhile that the show is being run and written by a group of people letting their feminist fantasies/wet dreams come into play.  Basically an overcorrection of past soaps where the women were under written... but the problem is that there are very few likable female characters on this show.

There definitely is a man shortage on this show. Look no further than the main family. Six Dupree women and only two Dupree men. And if, and  I do mean IF, Leslie is unmasked as a Dupree, then that will make two more women connected to the family. Eight Dupree women vs. two Dupree men.

First of all, I *welcome* a woman's viewpoint on a soap.  That's *not* a negative.  I know you have been saying you view it that way, but I just don't understand why you say that.

Second of all, a feminist viewpoint is not a wet dream/ fantasy.  Feminism isn't female dominance.  Feminism is wanting women to have equal space, viewpoint, importance, power, and influence.

Third of all, yes this soap shows more of the women's point of view and more women characters than the point of view of the mail characters.  As a woman viewer, I find that refreshing after decades of the opposite.  I don't think it's an "overcorrection".

So, basically what’s been going in nearly every single daily/weekly/monthly discussion thread on SON since I first got here as a wee eighth grader 20+ years ago lol

There's a lot of likeable women on this show:

Anita, Dani, Vanessa, Shanice, Kat(to some not me), Eva(to some not all), etc a lot more than the men

BTG was designed as a show primarily about wealthy Black characters living in a wealthy Black neighborhood -- but it's also a soap, which means that all the characters are just as flawed as characters on any other show.

Many (but not all) of the characters have both strengths and weaknesses, which I appreciate.

Many of the Duprees are written to have a conscious or unconscious snobbery.  Anita can be snooty and entitled, and yet sometimes wise and compassionate -- and I think she's written to have that complexity -- she's not supposed to be the perfect human. Kat and Dani seem intentionally snobbish.  Naomi is ridiculously behaving like the rich savior, but apparently doesn't realize how entitled she's being.  Nicole seems to be the most level-headed of the Duprees, but I'm sure we'll see flaws at some point.

Okay, if Leslie was always meant to be Barbara's child, what was the purpose of having her come between Nicole and Ted? Like they could have brought her in from the beginning, trying to get revenge on Anita from the start. Revealing that to the audience early on, as she slowly wiggles her way into Fairmont, seems more dramatic to me, and now she will become Anita's rival, and that leaves Nicole with nothing. Their interactions were always lukewarm to me anyway, but I feel this plot point doesn't do Nicole any favors. She continues to get the short end of the stick when it comes to story planning.

Nicole throwing herself a party with Dani and Vanessa; this is fantastic!!

  • I am loving the First Wives Club vibes at Nicole's home. It is giving me everything I need.

I liked it as well.

A feint. I get why they did it, it makes her seem like less of an existential threat than she will turn out to be.

Peaches could be a stepmother or foster mother to Leslie, which means she could be only a few years older than Leslie.    They said that Leslie stole Peaches' man, another indication that the characters of Peaches and Leslie might be somewhat close in age.

okay I'm rewatching today's episode and see part of a scene I'd missed on first watch.  Peaches said she took in Dana/Leslie at birth.  Barbara didn't want to be a mother, and Peaches did.   So Peaches is intended to be at least 18-20 years older than Dana/Leslie.

Ted tells Andre:  I've been busy with my kids…especially Eva, she needs me the most.

No mention of Martin.   We've seen very few Ted/Martin scenes in the past 6 months, with either Ted.

As for the $50,000 from Ted, Eva has brought that up and cracked that she spent it all on wigs, but still no explanation of where it actually went.

I assume some of that went to debts??  Though obviously not the debts she's getting a phone call for (if they want her to give at least $10000 right now) and... yeah I don't get it.

Yeah, that's really frustrating...

Anita said she wished that Barbara's family was in the audience and it turns out that someone from her family was, lol.

Derek is paralyzed and Ashley starts playing her flaky games giving Derek false hope. No one is worth getting into an accident over, but Ashley is the last person to fly over some handlebars grieving over.

Nicole trying to turn up was like watching Viki Lord trying to do the Wobble.
