Finally caught up. I was really torn by Friday's episode.

Naomi and Jacob were way too invested on who performed this surgery on June being she's someone they barely know. Also, this is a hospital in the DMV, a densely populated area with well-staffed hospitals. There's only one qualified doctor in all of the DMV? Oh no, not that doctor! Only Dr. McBride will do? It was strange.

Can we stop making the Casino a meeting point. First, Eva and Mona crossing paths and now Dani/Pamela/Doug/Joey. These folks don't seem like they just hit up the casino on a random Tuesday. Especially, one that is supposed to be some shady, seedy backroom. They need to end this casino stuff and repurpose that set.

Ted and Dana read sooooo differently this episode. Why was Ted out here inviting this woman that just blew up his life, clearly is unhinged, and took 50k to a birthday dinner???? Did I miss something? His reaction towards Dana also did not seem angry or in disgust like the previous Ted. It didn't feel right.

Whatever Bill was doing with his eyes when at OG's with Smitty.

The Good:

Anita getting some story is great. Love to have her doing more.

Leslie is wild. She really just had Eva to hold onto Ted-ddy. Calling her daughter a whole souvenir and not giving 2 about her birthday. Although, I'm wondering if Eva's real birthday is actually earlier and that's why Dana/Lesile is so nonchalant about this date. She gave Eva a cupcake some time back and I'm wondering if that's to tie to this idea that Kat and Eva are twins.

Smitty is growing on me. He's got something to do.

I didn't love some bigger things in this episode, but there were some small things that really were so nice to see. Loved seeing Dani calling Doug over to join them. It really gave off this feeling that they know each other well and it was a bit playful like you would do with a friend. Similarly, I liked how Kat and Naomi and Jacob played off each other. "I was actually asking my hubsand." It gave off authentic family banter vibes.

Kat is still a privileged elitist. She hated Eva on sight because Eva didn’t bow her head to her immediately and continued to treat Eva like a stain on her overpriced shoes. I’d love to know if Laura kissed her ass and kissed the ring properly and knew her place below Kat in the general hierarchy.

While Eva has been deserving of most of the consequences she’s been reaping, the Dupree women can take several hundred seats with the way they behave towards others. The hypocrisy and posturing irks me more than anything else and it’s the same thing that irks me about all other prominent soap families who can do no wrong in their own eyes.

I’m not really rooting for any of these assholes except maybe Eva (who is by default the smallest [!@#$%^&*] on this show), but I’m rooting against the Dupree family (except Nicole - she’s awesome) in general and I’m not sure that’s the goal of the showrunners.

Yes! I'm not at your point of not rooting for the Duprees, but they really need to tone down the self-righteousness. Some of the things coming out of these ladies' mouths is out of pocket considering all the skeletons in their own family's closet.

Kat is a spoiled brat princess and Silk Press Sheila called her out on it.

Silk Press Sheila is someone not to mess with. I was actually scared for Kat when she was alone with Silk Press Sheila and recording their conversation.

Kat may be a privileged elitist but that's not entirely true.  Kat first met Eva when Eva was snooping at Nicole's desk, so Kat's first impression of Eva wasn't very good.  Plus, Kat's instinct to not trust Eva was 100% right.  Kat's attitude toward Eva had nothing to do with Eva not "bowing" down to Kat, and her feelings toward her half-sister is very justified......minus the making fun of Eva's clothes of course.

But she can still be a priveliged elitist. She might have the same attitude to anyone from 'the wrong side of the tracks' whether they had an agenda or not.

Nicole seems to be an outlier in her family. Her parents, kids and sister seem to think themselves above reproach.

TBF, I don't think we've seen her interact enough with the "have-nots" to know if she is or isn't. It's possible, but I don't think you can say that from her interactions with Eva and Silkpress.

Well before the craziness starts, I just wanted to say that off of this week's promo...I love that show so far stays playing all the beats. And just when you think they forgot about something or someone mentions a loose end here...it circles back around. I love the attention to those plot details. So far.

) Anyways... I did really feel disgusted by Eurovision this year and I doubt I'll watch this horrific musical torture in the future. My ears and my psyche will not survive.
    • Regarding the mobster storyline: The scripts, the cardroom set, and the writing for Joey -- are all terrible. They seem to be writing a realistic depiction of compulsive gambling as an addiction, showing that it pops into his head all the time -- it has become hardwired into his brain.  The APA (American Psychological Association) describes compulsive gambling as having a similar effect on the physical brain as drug and alcohol addiction. https://www.apa.org/monitor/2023/07/how-gambling-affects-the-brain I think Jason Graham (Doug) is doing an adequate job playing Doug as a compulsive gambler, with the thoughts/urges coming into his head all the time, and being unable to stop. However, the cardroom set is awful and the mobster storyline is a bad cliché, so it's all so uninteresting to watch. I think Mr. Graham is doing the best he can with the crap they gave him to work with. If anyone reading or watching has a gambling issue, check out Gamblers Anonymous.  They have many types of meetings -- in-person, online, video, audio, etc.  They also have resources for friends/family of compulsive gamblers.
    • Today was painful (especially for Philip).  I still feel for Xander. He was clear he was happy sharing and working with Philip. It's just one more betrayal from someone he loved. Going back to last year when he found out about Victor and Fiona, then Alex and Philip. He forgave and tried. Then Philip went behind his back again. He's been walking on the edge for weeks. This is a man who was abused, neglected and has never had any therapy for his horrific past. He has zero coping skills because he's never learned them. I hate this but I refuse to hate Xander
    • Lucy Coe wasn't even this big of a whore.
    • Kate being the one that Alex called was a nice surprise. The cut to her looking all sheek made me instantly get excited for her to get back into business mode. And the Jack reference from when she first came to town (on-screen) was inserted naturally which is always welcome. When they were talking about how much sex sells, I almost got the impression they were sizing each other up in a May/December type of way.  All the Philip stuff was gruesome. I'm happy the show isn't shying away from Xander's ugliness. I love them both, and it just makes me intrigued for the aftermath for it all to be taken seriously. I cheered when Philip spat out at that Sarah knew the truth. I'm on tenterhooks for their eventual confrontation. I was surprised that Kate wasn't a little vicious towards Sarah for Xander's obvious behavior, but maybe that's still to come. How wonderfully entangled is it that both Philip and Shawn/Steve stopped each other from getting the drug. Both equally at fault. Who/what will ultimately save Bo? And with everything going on, is a Salem where it's looking likely that EJ is about to own the hospital imminent?
