Today was nice, but yeah, Sonny was not necessary. Bro, it doesn't matter how many donations and contributions you make; you're still gonna burn for all eternity

And while I did like the tributes and the historical references, we've all seen the first episode; April 1st, 1963 was clearly not the day that General Hospital opened.

Don't get me wrong, I really like today's special anniversary episode. But I do find it utterly bizarre how it's in a time continuum of its own, with no connection to yesterday's episode. We get Anna on the phone to Robin, but it's just to tell her about the new Cardiac Center at GH and not about the fact that Robin's daughter was arrested yesterday. And no one mentions that GH's head nurse was just in a serious car accident or that Sonny's brother and Alexis' ex-husband is currently fighting for his life in the ER.

Agreed.

On another note, I just got caught up watching my recordings from last week. I'm still reeling that over the fact that Kristina cut those brake lines.

The entire hour was a mix of something genuine and touching, followed by some nonsense and even disgusting scene with Sonny.

That photo of Monica is a fail. It's too small and doesn't look impressive enough on that plaque or for that wall.

That new atrium set we've been hearing about for days wasn't that special to me, either.

I hate to be a downer, but those historical references were marred every time they pretended that GH opened on April 1, 1963. One mention was enough. Every one beyond that was an eye roll.

Utterly and completely bizarre. It was essentially a standalone episode That could have been aired whenever. That didn't work for me at all.

I disagree. I think there is method to Frank's madness. At least where the Davis women are concerned. Not giving some blanket approval, no way.

Did you happen to notice in the promotional material, Genie talked about working with Maurice. Another time she remarked on her favorite thing about this past year & of course it was JJ.

The first thing struck me as written by PR & I rolled my eyes.

Second thing, totally Genie, so genuine, authentic.

Surreal. Why do they continue to prop this man?

Strongly agree. This interrupted the last couple of episodes which were strong. I got caught up so I could actually watch and read all the comments same day but this ep kind of wasn't worth it? First of all I thought they were going to finally acknowledge Monica's death. This whole episode about her being honored and not being around to see it was kind of unsettling, especially after all the recent focus on the Quartermaine crypt.

I honestly found Emma's speech the other day about what Edward and Alan meant to her to be far more moving because it was organic to the story, and nu Emma needs to be nominated for whatever that new Emmy award is for newcomers. Today's ep felt like a series of random vignettes.

It's really beyond the pale. And even worse was Lucky handwaving it away because Kristina is his work buddy. Guessing that will change now that it turned out to be his precious Elizabeth in the car. He used to be a cop! Kristina needs to go to jail, not an institution. I can't wait for Molly's righteous anger when this comes out. How could Kristina do this to Alexis!?

I don't think either character has ever been well served, although Molly still has a shot. Kristina needs a long break.

I don't know who came up with this idea. Frank's been there a long time now and they've never claimed this before, have they? Where is "the historian"?

I used to say that the Sonny shoehorning is just the show's obsessions, but after reading Genie Francis' effusive praise for Maurice as an actor, I've realized a lot of people there really must believe this [!@#$%^&*].

I liked today's episode.  Sonny being in it was fine, but I would have liked it more if Jason was the silent benefactor for Monica's wing.    Or even Lesley, but I doubt she has that cash flow.

I wish instead of talking about Robin's speech, Stone's performance at the Nurse's Ball, Maxie's hospital stay, etc they used actual flashbacks.  I know the budget is tight, but you probably could have cut the nurses gushing about Deception products out and done some flashbacks instead. Although this is the one time a year Amy and Deanna? get airtime.

    • Agree that this was a great week that brought some much-needed payoff to storylines that have been building for months. I'm just not sure about the comparison with Guza. I think if he were writing the show right now, the big sweeps event would be probably something like Daniel Goddard's Environmental Physics professor setting off a bomb at the Nurses' Ball and the rest of the cast getting caught in the carnage.

    • I don’t know either But having some random junkie extra be a part of John’s death, and Orpheus still being alive doesn’t feel right  I have no problem with the age gap, but I admit I do kind of side eye the high school element. I mean, when they hooked up 21 year old Casey Moss with 53 year old Kassie DePaiva, I had no problem, but this…

    • Trisha Mann-Grant is so so good. I can’t believe I’ve never seen her in something before.
    • When watching the clip of Michael returning I wonder if the announcer set a record for fastest "the role of..." I've never really connected to any of LLC's characters in her soap career, but I will give her credit for always knowing how to make a reaction and scene count. She did when Gio stormed out of the room, and her reaction to Michael returning and walking off with Miley, even in the background of a scene, was great.  (and how is today the day I just realized Lisa is married to Michael Patrick Jann, of The State fame).
    • Holy [!@#$%^&*] just finished Friday’s episode. Despite my very public issues with this show, this week was everything I look for in soap opera. I fast forwarded all of the performances so I got nothing but soapy goodness. Honestly when GH wants to, they still pull off a Guza type event and this week was proof of that.    I have to also shout out Ned getting some strong involvement, given Brook Lynn kept the secret from him, very happy about that.    Maurice has to retire ASAP. Every other major player affected by this story, did such great work. He was embarrassingly bad like he barely knew where he was for some of his scenes. Giving him a job just because of his mental health has to stip when he’s actively ruining scenes. So happy Ned got a point of view most of the episode. Michael showing up with his new face and his son running up to him in front of everyone is just perfect and a great cliffhanger.
