(credit to @dragonflies for finding the tweet)

Here is why the rumor is back...
From a group of French Y&R viewers, (Y&R is called "Les Feux de l'Amour" in France), they are active on social media.

May 21, 2025, they said on their twitter and facebook pages that there is a *RUMOR* that Aristotle Dumas is a pseudonym for Cane Ashby, and thus Billy Flynn is playing Dumas who is actually Cane.

Now on May 28, they tweeted this screenshot from the IG stories of Y&R costume designer Mandi Lane.
Wardrobe hanger labeled with a character name starts with "CA".
Behind that CA wardrobe hanger, you can see one for "Abby".

My thoughts/speculations/wonderings...

Billy Flynn isn't Australian, so how could he be playing Cane?
(yes I know JoshGriffith rarely make sense).

I know nothing.  But I'm not convinced that Dumas is actually Cane.  It's theoretically possible that Cane is working with Dumas, or working against Dumas.  *Maybe* they're the same person? But it just doesn't make sense to me.  I just don't know if Cane and Dumas are two different characters who will both debut at the same time with two different actors playing recast Cane and new character Dumas? Or if they are the same person played by one actor.

It does seem plausible that Cane would be written as plotting about Chancellor and about Winters, since Cane pretended to be Jill's son and because Lily divorced his lying a.ss.

But I don't believe Victor Newman would be ranting about Dumas if Dumas is Cane. Why would Victor care about Cane?  I mean, Nikki is running Chancellor and Victor would want that protected, but wouldn't Victor view Cane as being unworthy of notice?

Billy Flynn was filming Days into part of April.
The Y&R episodes that aired recently were filmed around April 8th, based on behind-the-scenes pics.  So that would fit for Flynn to first appear on Y&R onscreen at end of May or in early June.  (whoever his Y&R character is)

The original Billy Flynn casting announcement says
"he will debut later this spring in a newly created role."
https://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/casting-shock-days-star-billy-flynn-heads-to-young-and-restless/

A newly created role.  That doesn't say recast.  Unless that's subterfuge.

(I just edited this post a bunch of times, thinking aloud, trying to make it make sense, LOL.   I'm sure I'll be proven wrong about all my speculations, but whatever)
I just don't want smarmy Cane back.

I posted this on the Mishael Morgan thread ("Y&R: Former actor returning for guest stint").

I'll add it here, too, since it relates to Billy Flynn and Aristotle Dumas:

Mishael Morgan interview with Jeevan Brar of Canadian site "thetvwatercooler.com".
Uploaded May 20, 2025.  She said she went home to Toronto for the Victoria Day Canadian holiday long weekend, but was back in L.A., implying that she was still taping Y&R.

When asked if she has taped with Billy Flynn, she said yes but gave no details.

At the end of the interview she says there is a party coming up for the Dumas reveal, they built a whole new set for it, it's going to be fun and very beautiful.

lmao, if he is Cane I called it. It's because of Beyond the Gates - all these shows are trying to quickly write "black storylines" and line up black characters and Y&R wants to put Lily right up front and centere, and all they could think about to do so was bring back Cane. A Mess.

Sadly, the only thing JG knows how to do is resurrect old storylines and old characters.

This is *not* good for the character of Lily at all.  If she defeats Cane in business, fine, if he runs away.  But if they fall in love? ewwww.

I like Billy Flynn, but I'm not going to give the horrible character Cane a pass.  Nope.

Cane is no better or worse than anyone on the canvas, curranty. I don't understand why peeps hate him so much, regardless of Goddard playing him. For me personally as long as it's not Goddard (w/ his creepy bts antics) I don't care. He's basically a brand new character to me. lol

If that is the case, it's a very self-destructive way to go about it, as I am not sure how many black viewers are going to give a damn about her being used to propel Cane storyline. I'm not sure Lily has any real importance to potential new or lapsed viewers anyway.

They've got all these BIPOC characters appearing regularly: Lily, Nate, Damian, Holden, and Audra; with somewhat less regular appearances by Devon, Amanda, and Amy.
This was already an improvement.  I thought some of this was in response to BeyondTheGates.

I don't see how bringing in Cane-as-Dumas helps Lily in any way.

Cane is simply not a strong enough character to recast. If it was DG, at least you'd be able to reintroduce the character with years of clips. Unlike, say, when Phyllis was recast, you had a strong, memorable character with ties up and down the canvas.

I hope BF is someone else - though the character would need strong GC ties. I only three meaningful routes: a sibling/child - tied to Diane, Lauren/Michael or Devon (via Tucker).

If Tucker had an unmentioned son, it would make sense that he'd want to protect Winters and try to get Chancellor back. And also explain the secrecy.

The Fosters/Prentiss families have long been forgotten so that would not only create an island, but also not be relevant to most of the existing audience.

    • There are details through the thread, but yes, as mentioned, she hated Ellen Wheeler, and lambasted her for crying a lot, for her decisions with firing and Peapack, etc. Back in the day she also hated Pam Long, who created Reva and gave Reva all of her best material. The producers or writers she liked most seemed to be those who saw Reva in the most generic of molds, although she likely doesn't see it that way. She was OK on OLTL; I think @Vee could probably give a better summary. She was earthy and added her usual hard work to some trash material. There was nothing special going on, as yet again with patron saint Carlivati it was all plot, no character, and he cared more about writing for a cutesy child character.  You're right about what they could have done with Reva. Reva, Erica, and any women who are in story long enough face this problem. The biggest difference is Reva was allowed to age (even with the post-menopausal baby), which Erica was not.
    • Cali was the only Paulina for me on AW.  Was Judi Evans such a “name” that Cali was fired for her?  Judi basically played an entirely different character.  She could’ve been Nancy!
    • They were great together. Barbara was way too high maintenance for any man. You know Henry divorced her a$$ after about a year.  And, here’s an example of what I was talking about…
    • I watch every day as well, and I am enjoying the show. There's always room for improvement. TBH, things are much different from what I expected reading the character breakdowns. That could be a good thing! I'm willing to let them find their groove and figure out what kind of show it wants to be. The core and underlying theme. -I echo what a few others have said: The show is lacking in real romance and cross-starred lovers. But that tracks from (MVJ) experience cause the bell soaps are not good with romance IMO. -I have a feeling it's being built before our eyes, but we're missing that rival family. -I would prefer more variety of storylines. Good ones that could weave together the whole town.   -I struggle connecting to the male characters. So I hope they get a clear handle on them soon. Most of them feel underwritten and one-note. -Find a better purpose for Naomi. I fear she will be the first Dupree dumped. I completely agree. June's story does nothing for me. And what if she turns out to be Tyrell and Samantha's mom? They are very close to leaving high school. why should I care? If she turns out to be related to Hayley also, what's the long-term story, and why should I care? I believe Hayley can work on her own as a vixen. Does she need a sounding board? Sure, but you can accomplish that with an outsider's friend group. I didn't think I would be saying this, but I would entertain Kat having a forbidden affair with Jacob. Both Naomi and Jacob need something to do other than case-of-the-month storylines.
    • That would really just be a redux of the Leslie/Eva story. I really hope they don't go there. My guess for the storyline with Anita that we have "never seen before on daytime" is that it may be a "me, too" story. Anita did unspeakable things to get ahead because of some disgusting producer, and the other person she left behind was a boyfriend who cared about her very much.
    • Reva and Zimmer needed strong adversaries/scene partners. It would dampen the negatives associated with the character and Zimmer's self-admitted excesses. I think that's why she was a bust on SB. I don't know how she did on her return to OLTL because I was not watching at that point. The problem for me with Reva is the same situation with Erica Kane. It ended up being variations of the same storyline year after year. I think if the show had truly broken up Reva and Josh and put them in other viable relationships it would have freed up the characters to have better storylines and character growth. Instead, it's as if the characters were stuck for decades.
    • I am still behind and know what upcoming week you are talking about.

And I know I'm not ready and have not been since the official news. That was my first couple on that show. You won't be alone.    When you put it like that...same. Like I say in the thread when I'm more interested in what people are wearing than the stories...red flag. No momentum. Just stalling.      lol.
    • Y&R: 10% good, 90% garbage time BtG: 90% good, 10% garbage time
    • Valid question. Decades ago I didn't understand how this works, but then I learned.  But I never saw her as a romantic lead anyhow. I still dislike rapist Chelsea on Y&R.  And that show pairing her with her victim was just awful.
