e.c.hendrickson (Elizabeth Hendrickson)

After 24 years in front of the camera, I’m thrilled to be able to tell you all that I’ve stepped behind it.

I’ve spent the past 18 months up in the booth, shadowing, observing & absorbing — not knowing if it would ever turn into something more. There were hurdles but I kept showing up, paying attention, and fell in love with the process.

On Tuesday the 5th my first episode will air. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did directing it. The privilege (and pressure :) of working with two giants of our genre, Eric Braeden and Melody Thomas Scott, on my first day was not lost on me.

I have been supported every step of the way by my Y&R family…the amazing cast and crew.

I have deep gratitude for so many people from Y&R, Sony and CBS.

Huge thanks to Josh Griffith, our Executive Producer and Head Writer, who greenlit my goals from the start. Danielle Unger, Renée Villafan, Matt Olsen, Jonathan Fishman, Vivianne Gundaker, Robbin Phyllips, Matt Kane, Jill Farren Phelps…..It took support and determination from so many.. and I got it. And to Owen Renfroe — the best teacher and mentor I could’ve asked for — thank you for your time, wisdom and belief in me.

Thrilled for Elizabeth Hendrickson -- sounds like a dream come true for her.

I am thrilled for EH. However, it is not lost on me that she thanked JFP. I wonder what she is actually doing at Y&R.

It’s not that surprising if JFP is working in the booth - the directors direct in there and rely on the staff and supporting producers in the booth to facilitate much of that work.

UPDATE:
Womans World article was edited later on July 31.  It now says:
"Since scribes Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford have taken over, another side of Leo has emerged."

And we're happy they're retired.

At a 92Y forum for soap writers (alongside Claire Labine, David Kreizman, and others), I’ll never forget Shelly Altman saying that there was no room in daytime for new writers because the old guard like her would not give up their roles easily. Toodles!

Sarah Smith directed today's (August 1) of General Hospital.

Quote

Applause for 2024-25 Scripted Director, Sarah Smith, who will be directing segments and an episode of ABC’s GENERAL HOSPITAL! An award-winning director, writer, and editor, Sarah’s latest short film, CARDIFF, was nominated for a 2023 BAFTA Camera, and her previous short, BLACK HAT, was an official selection of the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, and won the 2019 Iris prize. She co-created and directed TENDER TOUCHES, winning 1st place at the 2018 AT&T Create-a-Thon, and her film D.ASIAN screened at over 35 festivals worldwide. Sarah was awarded the AMAZON MGM STUDIOS FILM FELLOWSHIP grant. She has also worked as a Writers’ Assistant, Directors’ Assistant, and Writer on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and AS THE WORLD TURNS. Congrats, Sarah!

There is now thanks to BTG. Girl can stay gone.

It never made sense to me that JFP was back at Y&R in a non-producer role. And now a script cover for an episode airing in September shows JFP listed as...a producer.

Wonder if she will eventually have an on-screen credit or if she's trying to keep a low profile...

Here's what's interesting to me about the Y&R script cover:

Steve Kent not listed

Kevin Hamburger as SP. Looks like he was added in May 2025. He has a very interesting exec background. This makes me wonder if Phelps was brought in to help train Hamburger on daytime EP role...He's not some mid or low level or former soap producer.  He's added just when it leaks that JLP is back at the studio...Interesting.

Belder Kanelos listed twice. That's really odd.

I know people hate JFP but I wish she could've spend some time at BTG helping them with a launch. The one thing that show needs is a strong visual look and she could've helped them tremendously with that over someone like Julie Carruthers who has never been known for making soaps look good.

That's a good point, although I'm trying to remember how good the visual looks were on JFP soaps after GL
