As already announced:
Tuesday January 7, GH is preempted for President Jimmy Carter.

The update is that some locations will air a rerun.
(per zap2it.com TV listings in some markets)

General Hospital – Season 59, Episode 171
Original airdate: May 17, 2022
Michael and Drew receive an unexpected offer from Carly; Leo reminds Chase about his promise; Ned has a meeting with an unexpected someone.
Here's Dustin's full recap of the episode:

Why would they rerun that episode?  I have previously stated that I thought GH usually picked reruns that have some characters or scenes that are connected to current episodes in some way, but I don't see the connection here.

In this rerun Nikolas, Ava, Spencer, and Esme are all living in Wyndemere. Esme in the process of seducing Nikolas, which leads to the conception of Ace. Spencer and Esme are now considered dead, Nikolas is in prison, Ava is divorced and broke, and Ace is the Cassadine heir. Ace is being raised by non-Cassadines while Sidwell now resides in Wyndemere. Ace is the only male Cassadine still residing in Port Charles.

Ace should be de-Cassadine’d and killed off. I hate when soaps have legacy characters have useless extra offspring with random stragglers no one will remember five years from their exit (Christian from Y&R is another example of this)

I’m glad to see Lynn Herring get something to do but woof did @Vee and others call it with Sidwell. CVE has one bag of writing tricks and recycles em over and over without so much as a switch up.

Willow crying over Michael serving her custody papers was pathetic. Her and Drew are nauseating but I did find Michael’s analysis of her to Sonny kind of interesting. Since they clearly wouldn’t let her be a lying gold digger I want her to end up going crazy when she realizes how Drew and Nina and her horniness have pushed her towards blowing up her family.

I HATE that the Twitter intern spoiled Michael getting set on fire. That could have been a great shock moment and all of the juice was taken away for me by already knowing it was happening. Kudos to the stunt team though, it was well done. I do wonder who the culprit will end up being since it seemed like a purposely set fire. I’m most looking forward to Laura Wright playing Carly’s reaction to it all because I’ve enjoyed Jason having to talk Carly out of destroying Drew and Willow.

They seem really adverse to letting anyone in the Pikeman/WSB story be legit shady. Collette was just firing a warning shot at Valentin? Yawn.

I wonder if the show is setting up Josslyn to start working at the WSB since she’s so invested in finding Dex’s killer and Brennan is helping her. Her grief continues to fall flat for me though.

LOL at Cyrus being so obviously the one who stabbed Dex. Why is this regime so allergic to mystery? I did enjoy Portia, Isaiah and Brad handing Cyrus his ass and Portia kicking him out of the hospital.

Again, easy remedy for this: Marcus Coloma's stint as Nikolas Cassadine was not Nikolas, it was Connor Bishop (unknown to be alive). Victor Cassadine recruited him to replace Nikolas (still injured from being shot by Valentin), making Ace a Bishop and not a Cassadine, and it would also eradicate the bullshït writing/behaviour of Nikolas, re: Ava/Esme/Spencer.

Colette the French dayplayer will be the way they attempt to salvage Brennan the slightly higher-ranking dayplayer. She'll be the secret true Pikeman or something, even though Brennan and Valentin were both very clearly Pikeman last spring-summer.

I'm just waiting for them to make some other big hire so Brennan the stop-gap male can finally get broomed off the show too. What a waste of time. I will say Joss or Emma going WSB would be more interesting than most of the show.

Michael finally said what many of us fans have been saying! Willow & Drew are equal parts disgusting at this point, but Willow right now is lacking in self-awareness as well as having no clue about the Nina/Drew boinking, yet.

Mamabear in da house!!!

I thought she meant to kill him but just couldn't get the right shot.

Also something many fans are saying.

Even poor Brad got to have his day.

Mark T has said in an interview that he looked for 4 years for the right role for Charles Mesure. I think they're more invested there than some are thinking.

This May 2022 rerun sounds annoying. Michael/Drew/Carly, Ned/Valentin, and Esme/Nikolas/Ava.  I have no desire to revisit any of that.  I don't really care about Chase singing to Leo and Brook Lynn.
The Spencer/Sam scenes sound interesting but .... both characters are gone now, and they're discussing Esme, who I never want to hear about again!

-- I watched only through the opening theme and counted at least 7 actors no longer part of the cast even though this episode is not even 2 years old. I'll never understand why GH doesn't air classic episodes.

-- I have to LOL when I picture Joss as a WSB agent.

So let me get this straight...since Sidwell is the 'hot young thang' in Frank Valentini's eye...that means that we might be FINALLY getting rid of Cyrus then? Because while the writing on the wall has kinda been there since the Lulu Awakens storyline began when he argued with Lucky from Laura calling him out to the Sam reveal to now Portia banning him from the hospital. Nothing against either actor (and I think we all know how I feel about Jeff Kober outside the show), but no. Due to the link to Laura, Cyrus is more important than Sidwell. And speaking of links to Laura, I would rather Nik got out of jail and reclaimed Wyndermere if the plan is to keep the set. And as much as I love seeing Lucy and again don't mind the actor...I just shook my head because there's no reason for him to be there unless it leads to one of two stories....1) something for Brennan and/or Jason to deal with and 2) if Robert/Holly come back. Okay 3 if this turns into a story for Lucky. Still...not needed.

Saying all of that though...there were quite a few things to like about this episode. I felt like it was building blocks to something bigger to come overall. I also felt there were little things that held my interest.

And yes...I hollered at Carly busting into Jason's job. It was just such a CARLY thing to do. I just wished it was a different set. It was just typical Carly/Jason right down to the dialogue. It also made me think how un-Carly Carly has been as of late. Just a little thing that brought a little smile to my face.

Same with that brief flash of shirtless Drew. Though I don't know what Willow was thinking. But tbf, I found the beginning of the episode was an abrupt start. Almost like I had missed an episode...which did not help. Meanwhile, those Sonny/Michael scenes did nothing for me. It just felt like the potential in this triangle (really love quintet) had really been sucked all the way out of it. And that ILY felt cold. It also fell flat.

I knew that lame henchwoman was not long for this world. But I've said she's a foil for Carly/Brennan. Clearly. Moreso if the plan was NOT to shoot Valentin in the first place. But I did gasp when Brennan got ahold of that footage of who killed Dex. Uh oh now.

Laura reduced to recapping? Well, better than what they did on the 1-3 episode of B&B. And I did like that keeps us abreast of the Lulu storyline. Same with Lucas confronting Portia about Liz.

Awww at Brad standing up for Brit and him and Lucas having a moment.

That ending...well...it kinda would have been nice if that had been combined in scenes with Brennan with the footage to make a really good cliffhanger. Drew/Willow's ILY ain't it as a cliffhanger. Dex's killer...which will lead to Sam's killer + Micheal and the explosion (and the aftermate) are far better cliffhangers together.

    • I don't expect Lois to be the same person she was 25 years ago, but she's definitely lost a lot of what made Lois unique.  It's clear the show doesn't know how to write for her, and the sole purpose of Lois is to hide this Gio secret.  It's a shame she doesn't interact with more of the canvas.  It's a waste of Rena's talents. I like Brook Kerr most of the time.  She can be hit or miss.  I totally get what you are saying about her line readings too.  I honestly think the character really suffers being stuck in the Curtis pairing.  She's much better than Tanisha Harper's Jordan lol.
    • Friday and yesterday's episode is what daytime television should be. The other shows airing could take a page from yesterday's show.  I loved the rage, hurt and anger Nicole unleashed on Ted.  Daphnee should be up for an Emmy nom for these scenes.  It broke my heart to see how Dana had locked Eva out.  I do feel sorry for Eva.    I am still bumfuzzled as to why Leslie/Dana went to the DuPree's and asked them to accept Kat UNLESS Eva is really Kat's twin (and really Nicole and Ted's daughter that maybe they though they lost or an embryo Dana/Leslie stole??) I loved how Anita and Vernon both shot her down.    Ohhh and let me just say Friday and yesterday was the MOST fire I have seen Martin have since the show started.  Maybe Brandon Clayborn is coming into his own with the role finally.
    • You've been seeing him all along. You just didn't know it was him, I guess.

    • Where to for Dana? She's pissed off the Duprees (most of the cast), alienated her daughter and will she be welcomed by the Have Nots at the diner? Maybe she can befriend Ashley and Derek and liven up their story.
    • Melissa Ordway announced she was moved to recurring back in November but is still credited with the contract cast members.
    • I think of Evan as a smarmy bast*rd. Maybe you'll like that description. You certainly have him pegged correctly since he is just a soldier following "Admiral" Iris's marching orders.
    • So far the only interest I've seen from Evan to Amanda has been listening to Iris's orders to go and seduce her.  So far he hasn't been successful... but who knows. Amanda is unbearable at times. Entitled, spoiled... idiotic. Iris... so blatantly manipulating her and Amanda takes the bait. But I guess... when she gets in trouble... she'll have a chance to learn. That's what makes these shows so interesting.    Oh, no, don't worry. You haven't ruined a thing. Evan has not been on my radar that much... he was not one of the characters I was caring particularly... so nothing much has been changed for me. I don't think he has the stuff to ruin Rachel's life. He's just a pretty guy that can follow orders. Iris on the other hand... is dangerous.

P.S Maybe Evan will surprise me. Who knows.
    • The show has gone back to 10/10 entertainment! I'm glad that I was right in feeling that what were experiencing were growing pains. I'm sure they are not over yet, but I'll know that we always comeback to quality drama. I think it's going to be a hell of ride (in a good way) from this moment on. BTG has that magic that not a lot of shows have. I'll update more... when I'm done catching up.
    • So very glad to hear this. Yesterday I suddenly thought; OMG, what about spoilers, have I just  ruined things for Maxim in getting carried away with interest in Evan, who was so well-written & well-acted. BTW, your fan review of this episode was a sight for eyes that had not seen one of these for a little bit too long, LOL!!!  Mitch is also fascinating to me but in his case it's because he was all in with Janice & her nefarious plan & then he did this turnabout we've mentioned & he basically got off scot-free.
