I just finished watching this. It was a nice reunion and everybody got a chance to speak. Unfortunately, no talk about what could come of the future but they did briefly mention the Prospect Park version.

They did a really good job of picking who would appear. I'd love to see them get a televised special with a few more people. Watching it reminded me of just how shocking it is that such an iconic show is no longer on the air. One of ABC's biggest mistakes was cancelling this show.

I think everyone who can should buy the special. I think this is a way for them to test out a demand for AMC. I could be wrong though.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread

I just finished watching the Locher Room interview with Grant, Michael, Robert, and Sherry (there was another actor there who was not affiliated with Guiding Light who is also in Sherry's play).
Most of it was talking about the play, obviously, because they were there to promote it. About an hour in, they started talking about GL. It didn't go on for very long, but a few nuggets:
Peter Simon hated wearing the chef's hat during the Bauer BBQ and would make a big fuss about it. I thought, "Wow, what a pill." But turns out it was just a routine he did and they said he was very funny.
Now, this is a surprise: they said when PS, Jerry, and Chris got going together they would make them all laugh. (Hmmm, KZ always makes it sounds like CB was kind of a grump on set).
They talked about who mentored them on the show. Besides PS and CB they praised Charita and Larry Gates.
MO did an impression of Jordan Clark. A little over-the-top, but funny.
RN said he used to sit in the control booth and was always so impressed by how CB understood how to play to the camera. He said he learned a lot from him because he was used to working in theater.
GA is still friends with Phil MacGregor, the actor who was the first Rick who came in before MO. They didn't seem to have been in touch much with Carl Evans (the first Alan Michael). Alan Locher caught them up with what he's been up to because he recently interviewed him. GA had such nice things to say about him. He said he was the best pairing with Beth Ehlers. (I AGREE, they tanked Alan Michael and Harley way too soon!)
They praised Nancy Curlee to the skies! In fact, RN had just see her recently.
RN was hilarious trashing the clone and time travel stories, though of course, he praised KZ and how she comitted to everything no matter what it was, even when she complained about a story.
They also said lovely things about Beverlee McKinsey, who they also credited her with teaching them a lot.
That's the major stuff. I think it's always worth it to watch a GA or RN interview, they tell a lot without dragging people (except for RN not liking some of the storylines, LOL).

As a radio soap fan, I am very intrigued by this project and am delighted that it will be launching next week. I think three 20 minute episodes a week is smart. The cast size seems manageable for that amount of story space. I do hope this leads to more projects like this.

Loving/The City Discussion Thread

I don't doubt any of this, but when I think of 1992 Ava, I think of all the Phantom of Burnell's stuff, which I don't hate (I feel like the Broadway references were ingrained into a lot of the New York soaps), but I don't think it's always the strongest story due to the outcome.
I am still furious how quickly McCarthy/Walsh or Nixon dumped the idea that the Sowolskys were the source of the Alden fortune. It was Ava's BeLieF moment and they squandered the energy in days for what seems to be the Gilbert story.
Sorry to hear he passed. I saw some of his work recently in the Italian episodes. In thoseclips, it appears some of the impotence story may have made it to air, but not much. Billy is definitely avoiding sexual encounters with his wife. It's no just that he's busy, but that he makes himself busy.
I feel like they could have done a more Cat on a Hot Tin Roof inspired story with Rita Mae and Billy. I think Rita Mae already was coming off as a Maggie the Cat type anyway and you had the football angle. I think they could have done the angle of Rita Mae / Jack / Billy triangle (as a way of drawing out the Lily / Jack story and giving Lily / Curtis more space to play) by making Jack and Billy's relationship complicated. An adopted Jack who had a loving father in Roger, but who seems to emotionally crippled at times, being drawn to his football coach in a mentor way while Billy is drawn to the memories of his own youth and possibly a friend who he lost like Brick Pollitt's pal Skipper.
Janie was tossed away too quickly. Things just really unravel a bit the farther into 1994 the show gets. I also think Janie was a bit of a version of what Agnes Nixon was rumored to have planned for Ava in the mid 1980s. Supposedly, Nixon wanted to reveal that Ava was biracial, which is why I assume, in part, Nixon was seeking Ellen Holly to appear as Carla. I imagine that the plan was to have Carla take part in Ava accepting her racial identity as a way of revisiting Carla's own story.
I think Buck's connections to the canvas with Curtis as his business partner and Trucker as his brother were also helping to ground him. I do think the connection to Janie would have been a powerful story to tell given Buck's history. His own father had abandoned him and he had such a strong parental involvement with Stacey's kids. Having him have to come to terms with his past and the child he abandoned would have fit nicely into that character arc.
