I thought the Doug III prison scenes were confusing as well.  I think the black/white filming made it unclear yesterday.  Today it made a little more sense.

The Liz/Marie feud is pretty silly.  Unless Neil reunited with Liz at some point before his death and was the father of her sons or something it seems petty to even care now.  At least Maggie called them out.

The Belle/Marlena scenes today and yesterday made continuity strange.  John was gone on their anniversary, came back, and left again?  Belle was there for the anniversary and came back to the funeral and Marlena is just now hearing she's been in Hong Kong and is having trouble with Shawn?  The explanation of the John issue aside, Belle/Marlena just saw one another a few weeks ago lol.

Overall, beautiful moments in the episode.  Julie's monologue was quite special.

I haven't seen today's episode yet, but I did see yesterday's episode. While I thought the scenes with Liz and Marie were over the top and silly, oddly I found them realistic and relatable. I've actually seen that kind of behavior between my 70- and 80-something aunts at my dad's funeral and other family funerals.

I thought her saying she owed her singing career to Doug explained that. And it was worth to have her leading the case in "Always." What I don't buy is that Liz didn't keep in touch with anyone in Salem all these years.

And though I thought the Liz-Marie sniping was stupid, it did remind me how much I liked that storyline back in the day.

Yeah, they should have had a church setting. That outdoor set was too small and didn't work for me. You bring back all those characters and then smoosh them into a cramped space where they're on top of one another.

I also wish the service came a couple days later. It all feels rushed and the pacing is off.

Peacock had a Black Friday sale of subscribing for an entire year for $19.99, so hopefully some lapsed viewers came back.

I would contend that their relationship was deeper than that.  Not only did Doug give Liz a start in her singing career, but also she took over Doug's Place when he left, renamed it Blondie's, and carried on his traditions.

But, I agree with the general sentiment about the pacing.  I wish that Marie got more time to interact with the Hortons and comment on the refurbishment of the house.  I would've liked to see more of Sarah's interactions with Marie and Liz, given their connections to Neal.  And I wish the funeral was on Friday, so we got a whole week of flashbacks of how Doug was connected to various people in Salem.

They explained that Addie had gifted Alice with the necklace but Alice thought it was too garish for Salem so she put it in the time capsule. I think that's an unlikely scenario but it explains why Alice would have had a diamond necklace.

It wouldn't make any sense to have a modern recreation instead of the original footage since they had already show part of the original scene and all the other flashbacks have been real, not modern recreations.

If they wrote to what they had, sure, you're correct. But, if they wrote what they wanted to write without regard to what clips were available to them, it would make sense to their way of thinking. @JAS0N47Is there anything known conclusively about this one flashback? Was the new actor playing Doug or his new Doug the third character? Thanks!

I am curious if the show made that distinction when SS came aboard in the 70's.  Do you know?  It's so sad misinformation gets spread around because all this time I thought he actually was the older brother due to everything I have read.  I love there are people on this board that have the wealth of knowledge and watched at the time.

Today’s episode had me thinking about a soap history question- today’s episode featured two characters named Steven- Steve Johnson and Steven Olson.  How many times has a soap featured two characters with the same first name? I can’t imagine it has happened too frequently.

    • I’m trying to think which actors VW were working with at the time, and none of them had been there for a while. Even like Mac and Ada didn’t have that big of a part in Rachel’s storyline.  And Jamie was involved with all that movie stuff.
    • Brooke did ads before ATWT too. That probably helped get her the job. After ATWT she seemed to branch more into hosting, along with ads.  I think I saw Kelley in an ad or two, but you're right she wasn't on as much.
    •   Thanks for sharing these. I wonder if Charles might have been in the running for Adam. I know Preacher was a bit of a bad boy at times on EON, but Neal seemed to be a step down, and Robert Lupone had played a similar part on AMC. Given the huge cast turnover at this point I wonder who thought they had been there long enough to go.  Laura Malone/Chris Rich would get a remote within the next year.
    • Interesting.  It seems to allude to that statement that Warren Burton made around that time about some AW actors getting special treatment.  I wonder who was resentful about not getting to go.

    • Under all of Madonna's social media today there is this wave of negative, toxic, absurd comments by Lady Gaga fans telling her how Gaga surpassed her in concert in Copacabana. I mean... Who the hell cares? Why are these fan communities so freaking toxic??? I'm sure Madonna doesn't care... But still. Have some respect for M. Leave her social media alone. Go cheer Gaga and be happy. Why come and spew hate on M??? Crazy world.
    • FYI, again, Ruth/Letitia is not in either of these 2 episodes. So that concludes the 4 episodes I had from Nov. 1983. I don't have the October episodes.
    • Eddie has begun uploading the 1990 episodes. I'm so happy about that. I was mindfully taking a break till there's plenty of episodes I can binge watch when I feel like it. Now that 1989 is complete... I can't wait to press play on February 1989 and resume where I left off.

Me when someone asks me to be proper and demure.
    • This is just a guess but I feel like the fact that they keep mentioning her dead husband is for a reason. We know Martin has a secret that likely involved someone dying. Martin's victim could be Alan which Leslie/Dana either knows about or finds out and she uses that to blackmail the family into letting her crimes slide.
