Maybe I am confusing Stefan and Chad, but I thought it was during his mustache period.

Who TF knows... so many should be dropped altogether (looking at you Josh Taylor), and when everyone was dropped altogether in November 2019, I am baffled several were re-signed to their contracts.

This was a good decision to make. 

I guess it’s for the best, even though I, personally, would’ve dumped Kristen before Stefan.

He’s too similar to EJ. And the two of them could only jockey for position so many times before it gets tiresome. I just wish his exit was a little better. 

Meanwhile, I wouldn’t mind BB going back to GH either, and if they had to thin the herd a little more to pay his salary, I’d be all for it lol

And don't forget, he's still got that rocking band with Eric Martsolf.  I'm certain they've got some dates lined up at Yuck Yuck's Pittsburgh and The Osmund Cousin Saloon in Branson Missouri. 

I did remember a post about that. I see I posted that in the 10/24/23 episode credits, his name was moved to recurring. But then it was immediately moved back to his same contract position in the credits. So, I just never changed anything in his stats.

Stefan and EJ are just too similar. For them to exist at the same time, one of them needed to go full crazy villain and be the new Stefano. At least Kristen and Chad have their own, lanes. Nothing made Stefan different enough from EJ to justify his continued presence on the show. 

I enjoyed Stefan personally.

I quite liked Brandon as Jake the mechanic, especially his relationship with Gwen. His Stefan, not so much. (Ditto with post-Jake Gwen.) But I hope he gets something else quickly.  

In hindsight, the timing is unfortunate.

A few months ago, I would have said that the redundant Dimera was Chad.  Of course, now he is in the middle of the F-Abby story.  But, given the long term potential of Gabi as a leading lady, it would be logical to keep Stefan around (because we know F-Abby/Cat is leaving in a year).  Especially because I think Chad and Stefan are more similar as the “sane” Dimera in contrast to Kristen and EJ.

On the other hand, Chad has two half-Hortons who could go on to become good adult characters in the future, and Stefan never had a kid.

I agree. I thought Jake was a wonderful character and it's rare that I prefer the replacement to the original character when they do these swaps. Stefan was ruined by bad story choices and I could never get invested once he came back as that character.
