And I don't debate that. They do work together, but I also don't see that as something this soap has always excelled in".

Although I would agree that Y&R never excelled in humour overall, certain characters/actors did. Terry “Smilin’ Jack” Lester definitely had standout moments, Dru/VR had them with Neil/KSJ and Sharon/SC. Even Nikki and Sharon had some moments, over the years. With the way the Victor character has evolved (some might say devolved) over decades, he’s likely too far gone to reel him back. And you’re right, JG doesn’t have the skill set anyway. But, as morose as some like to speak of Douglas Marland, he was able to give a far more intense character like James Stenbeck some wit that still adhered to his intense personality. It’s part of humanizing the character. I can’t remember the last time I saw Victor as being fully human, rather than a type.

Humour and drama work together. That’s why the theatre mask has both the comedy and the drama. Even Shakespeare’s tragedy had humorous bits. You really need both.
The definition of drama is not the absence of humour, the definition of drama is conflict…which tbh, JG doesn’t know how to do proficiently either.

I concur with all of this. I just don't see the banter we're seeing between Eric Braeden & Melody Thomas Scott coming into play at this point. Truth be told, I'm semi-surprised they haven't split them, yet. I believe the short-lived open marriage storyline was TPTB's way of testing waters and the audience seemed to be a mixed bag of reception. I loved the idea, for Nikki's sake, but not for Victor.

Wow, JG has this week also pretty much blown up and upended everything he’s written the past couple years with this most recent implosion of the Abbott family. It’s actually semi-interesting…but also overkill like Sharon’s story is.

Not really sure what the end game of Victor’s revenge is though.

Someone want to do a wellness check on Griffith? 🤣 This dark drama overload is typically sign all is not well in her own personal life. 😂

And my poor Sally getting shipped into Billy’s orbit. She doesn’t deserve this!!!

What do you think of Kyle? I remember last year he rebranded himself as Smiling Kyle.

May I ask a dumb question?

What was the final resolve on Aunt Jordan?  The last time that I watched Victor was feeding her brussel sprouts in his basement jail cell.

BTW, if they are re-building the ranchhouse, was that not supposed to be the original cellar prison?

IIRC, she's in jail after being found by Cole & Michael, which upset Victor.

My response:

Spoiler

Pretty sure the remodel began post-cellar story, as the DAYS-like parlor was seen in subsequent episodes, and the introduction of the set's remodel is going to be used as a gift to Nikki, and later for the Abby & Devon wedding locale.

With the money being poured into the Ranch, it seems odd that only Victor and Nikki live there. Obviously it's going to be used a lot so are we going to see a constant stream of visitors and Victor conducting his business there?
Where is Nick living now?

I'll give JG credit for dumping the Grand Phoenix and bringing us the return of the GCAC back in 2023.  Now, this Newman Ranch set... Wow!  Just wow!  Its new, but so very reminiscent and comforting like the original that JFP wrongfully struck down in place for her bland and generic IKEA-version set.  I hope, especially with Ed Scott's return, we can get the Chancellor Mansion set revamped and some much needed office sets for all of our C-Suite characters -- maybe even the return of the Top of the Tower set as another fine dining restaurant.

Agreed about the timeline.  What I meant was - I thought Aunt Jordan was being kept in the same cell where Victor kept his first wife, Julia's lover, Michael.  But, wouldn't that room have been under the old ranchhouse, not the one Victor was living in with NIkki in the spring?

Who knows, because I don't recall it being mentioned that the Ranch introduced in 2013 was at a different site on the property, because both have been referred to as 421 Larkspur Trail, Highway B, so I think:

the 2013 house is just being "remodeled" for Nikki, and it'll now mirror what that classic set did.

I think we will see the ranch set a lot. I guess that'll be an improvement from characters moving from one restaurant to another.

Seems like we're supposed to believe Nick is still in his "new house" that we last saw...I don't remember when. I do recall it being a pretty large space, and they even had a long hallway attached to it.

I'm really happy about the ranch coming back, but that won't be enough to satisfy me. The sets problem at Y&R is enormous, and one of the show's biggest flaws. I can't stand what we're seeing right now. I hope Ed Scott's return addresses this.

Absolutely LOVE this.

Me too. The new ranch set is beautiful and a very fitting tribute to the original, and to EB and MTS who were genuinely touched.

Now, time to repair the Chancellor mansion set, which shouldn’t be too hard. It needs to be turned back to the original orientation so badly.

Beyond one-liners, Y&R, at least under Bill Bell, had a very dark sense of camp in characters like Rose, Sheila, and early Leanna and Phyllis. You don't get that on soaps now so the closest they come is all the ham with Jordan.

I actually don't mind how the set is at present; it's likely easier for them to film, too.
