funny, i feel exactly the opposite. i’ve always hated the bitch slaps and cat fights, which for the record, began on ‘dynasty’ in the early 80s and soon infiltrated daytime.

while i’ve been observing and writing about soaps for decades, so have a professional interest, and i will always watch anything with tamara tunie, but if all i knew about ‘beyond the gates’ was from the on-air promos — the slaps, punches, violent outbursts, and scantly-clad couples — i likely wouldn’t be watching.

of course, i will — with great interest.

krystinabaileybrawer (Krystina Bailey Brawer)

I’ve been sitting on some exciting news! I will be playing one of the nurses on an upcoming episode of “Beyond the Gates” the NEW soap opera coming to CBS next month! What’s incredibly special about “Beyond the Gates” is that its the first daytime television soap opera to feature a predominately African-American cast since “Generations” which premiered in 1989 and its the first new daytime soap to debut on a major American broadcast network since “Passions” in 1999! I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be apart of this amazing series! Mark your calendars, @beyondthegates premieres next month (Black History Month) on February 24th 2pm EST/1pm PST on @cbstv and streaming on @paramountplus. You can catch me on episode 9 this season on March 6th! You don’t want to miss it!

I’d like to give a special shout to casting director @therealkimcoleman for casting me in this amazing project! A special shout out to my acting coach @ransforddohertyactorpage for teaching me his “Diving Board Questions” acting technique! My acting has changed forever thanks to you Coach! Go check out his page and schedule your session today! Lastly, thank to my representation @brandoncohen for continuing to submit and believe in me: teamwork makes the dream work!

And if you haven’t already go pick up a copy of my book @actorswhatyouneedtoknow everything that I’ve learned to have the success I currently have is in that book! An online course for the book and consultations with me will be on my website this spring/summer! Be on the look out!

I used to hate the bitch slaps & catfights but somehow that changed. I know it began last year with the MVJ-written catfight on GENERATIONS. Not that it happened last year but when I saw it & for some unknown reason appreciated it for its best-ness. Now just today I find I'm interested in a catfight on GL between Laura Wright & Gina Tognoni. Anita & Dani are the BTG characters I'm most interested in, so far. But, I don't think it's because Dani delivers a slap well in a promo.

people posting here have been following ‘beyond the gates’ for months, and know a lot about  — maybe too much:) — about the show.

but we’re hardly representative of the larger pool of prospective viewers, many, if not most, of whom will have heard about the show from the promos.

Aleah Hordges is at WKRC in Cincinnati  (not WKRP lol)   She drove down to Atlanta to do the story on her brother Jibre.  In addition to this main report on the station's website, she has a bunch of mini-videos and a lot of photos of her trip, in several facebook posts.  Check them out here:

    • Thanks @kalbir what a time to have enjoyed the peak of the primetime soaps. Haha you’re good. The only complaint I have with Lorraine’s death as I mentioned recently in the FC thread was it was overkill, and all we got Apollonia. If a pregnant woman had to be killed off, I would’ve chosen just killing off Robin instead in some freak accident or in the explosion at Richard’s to save us from us that disaster lol.    Did Hotel have a cliffhanger that year? I imagine if Hotel had been soapier we would’ve had cliffhangers like the hotel catching on fire or bombed by an ex-lover of Christine. Peter pisses everyone off and is shot in his office. Or a major Golden age star like a Olivia de Havilland shows and tells how she originally owned the Hotel and how Victoria Cabot & Laura Trent stole it from her but now she owns it etc.
    • The whole AMC 2.0 pulled it together in mere weeks to get a show up and running, with scripts and a cast.

Ginger Smith seemed really passionate about being in the executive producer position, and I think she really did a fantastic job in six weeks. It was just well done.
    • I totally didn’t pick up on that. Just perfect! I don’t get the Maurice Johnson hate around here at all. He didn’t take me out of the scenes at all. I understood everything he was portraying. It was great. I do wonder if there will be a personality shift with the new actor, whom I’m still not excited about. Exactly. Right? I’m in the exact same boat as you. Agree with most of this except I never found anything off with Ted, didn’t suspect a thing. I just watched yesterday’s episode and it was one of the best soap episodes I’ve seen in a very long time. I was enthralled the entire time. Just fantastic.
    • Yep! Very curious to see where this goes.
    • I was confused too, but I think it was always a "tribute thread" (this one and OLTL's were created when their cancellations were announced). They just changed the show abbreviations to their titles spelled out, I guess to make the board just a little bit more uniform. I was lost, too lol
    • Well... I am. I think she's losing her initial menacing presence. Slowly but surely. I need the crazy dialed back. But as I said... this is very miniscule negative reaction. I am loving the show right now. We'll see how they'll continue after the fireworks.
    • Oh, I am so looking forward to the reveal about Laura's accident, and Nicole and Leslie having a real one on one.
    • I'm not seeing that right now. I'm stepping out on faith and believeing MVJ will not turn "Silk" into a ridiculous caricature.
    • One little... very little... tiny... minuscule negative comment. I was debating if I should care to say it... In some ways... Silk has been acting clownish... I think they need to dial it back, because if this continues with the current pace... she'll be worse than Sheila in terms of getting totally predictable and not menacing anymore. TMG is one hell of an actress... I just want to see a more normal and less clownish Silkpress in the coming weeks*months. We need to dial down the wigs too. It's becoming a funny caricature and we don't want that. Maybe we do, I'm not sure. I just like her more menacing and sinister than... "Hahhahahah what is she wearing today". That's a personal preference.   So far... I am okay with it... but I have fears this may turn into a really tired joke in the future. I want TMG as long as possible on my screen!
