I vehemently disagree with that. Deidre Hall gets attention in Soapland every time she speaks. What she says matters, and people trust her. I'm not suggesting she call Alarr a POS, but that she at least acknowledge the report, the charges, and the people who have been hurt for YEARS. None of this changes if everyone stays quiet.

I realize it's not their job, Caroline. I'm not suggesting an actor just hired go public with a scorching statement against Alarr. I'm talking about big names like Hall and Drake Hogestyn and Maggie Rogers, among others.

Pretty dicey? Everything is a gamble, and this seems like the time and place to take one. Besides, it's highly doubtful Alarr could get away with retribution after all that's come out about him.

Trust me, unless cast and crew also ban together to fight this, it's going nowhere.

Also, let's not forget that four longtime cast members were quoted in the Deadline story, so they've done their part to make this story public.  I mean, someone leaked it from inside the production.

I think you risk veering into the territory of victim shaming when you emphasize that actors are responsible for voicing their displeasure in a public forum, which I am certain is not your motivation, but it should be a consideration.

Not true. The show does not currently employ Peter and contract terms do not bind him. Current cast members are, however, bound by their contracts and could have been instructed to keep quiet or else face retaliation or termination.

A few others have pointed out my major issues of concern @ranger1rg.  Contracts, gag orders, etc.  @j swiftpointed out this could veer into victim shaming if Deidre or whoever doesn't come forward publicly.  We have no idea what they did privately nor do we know how Alarr personally victimized them.  If someone would like to come forward with a statement that is their choice.  It's also someone's choice not to as the cast and crew were the victims.   People like Lisa Rinna and Peter Reckell can make statements without any fear of repercussions.

@ranger1rg I know you are trying to advocate for the victims and think someone like Deidre would make a difference, but I think this is a much more complicated and nuanced situation then just a cast and crew banding together to solve it.

Anyway, I have mostly stayed out of this discussion except for that one post you quoted that was mostly about today's episode actually.  I don't pretend to have the answers about this and I am just sad for everyone at Days that had to put up with that for years.

Not much happened today but I didn’t think today was a bad episode

I did like the Carver family scenes. It’s been done a lot before with other families on Days but I also enjoy that family dynamic. We’ll miss you, Lani. Hope to see you soon!

As for Gwen, I really hope she isn’t this dumb but I’m afraid that she’s going to be. It would be really nice if it turns out that she already knows about Dimitri/Leo and gets back at them somehow.

And Leo is trash. Dimitri/PP is very hot and very good at seduction but Leo is still trash. Just like with another piece of trash over at GH, the selfish actions will always speak louder than the words.

"I suppose it would be a shame to let all this gratuitous nudity go to waste."  Just a great line.

Kayla's speech to Theo about being a good person, great dialogue.

Then, Lani's speech of farewell to Abe, excellent dialogue.

Thank you, Kirk for good words today.

Gwen/Leo, Gwen/Dmitri & Dimitri/Leo & all 3, hokey but also totally soapy. They say as fans we will accept things that don't make sense if they are "soapy" enough. I think this fits that bill.

With Abe they're symbolically building his family. Should be an excellent dramatic ride.

When the end credits rolled I flinched when *his* name came up.

    • IMDb is definitely incorrect, because the final week of episodes in 1974 is uploaded to Youtube in audio form, and Mark and Laurie are there until the very end. The last episode shows Mark going back to the priesthood. I looked at the newspaper and the earliest reference to their house being haunted by Georgina is in December of 1973. This is dated Dec 14, but this same synopsis ran in the papers until the end of December in other publications. So it must have been within those last three months or so.

    • Opal having siblings could add to the story. However, it raises questions about Tad's adoption. Why were the Martins allowed to adopt him if Tad had aunts or uncles who could have cared for him?  Logic limited the number of possible Gardner's (and whatever Opal's maiden name was).  Even though Linda Thorson would have been a hysterical choice given her British accent.   All of which is still not an excuse for Tad's evil doppelgänger Ted.
    • And if I remember correctly, at one point, they were considering having Linda Thorson play Opal's sister.
    • Interesting. Makes me wonder how the day to day looked for Secret Storm at this point in the run. This seems very to deal with the psychological aspect, I guess the "inner storm", and the music is almost sinister. If this is from 1974 there's not much room for dates it could've been from as it ended on February 8th.  It's hard to tell from an edit featuring just one storyline, but if this was the day to day it might've been heavy for the casual viewers.   ETA: Stephanie Braxton is credited to have appeared as Laurie from 1970-1973. David Gale is credited only in 1973 and Alexander Scourby from 1972-1973. I know IMDB isn't always right, but I'd say this is likely 1973 - I'm guessing all these characters exited before 1974 and this might be a part of their final storyline.
    • Well, they were both involved with Ray Gardner.  Then, the actress left in 1980, only to return as a somewhat broader interpretation of the character after Dottie was SORASed.  By that time, Opal had left in 1983.  So, while they serve the same story function,(verbally abusive/neglectful mothers who make you feel sorry for their daughters), one could argue that Edna was the carbon copy.
    • Okay, now it's my turn to ask about the Thorntons, namely Edna. Did she and Opal have any scenes together? I ask because I was familiar with Opal first, so when I found out about Edna, my biased mind saw her as the first try for that type of character.
    • There is no dispute that Jill Farren Phelps had a successful career in daytime based on longevity, but that does not preclude discussion and dislike of her decisions at various shows. Sure there may have been some misogyny involved BITD(we don't know as I don't recall JFP ever mentioning that) but the head of CBS Daytime at that point was a woman and there were other women involved BTS. I think that so long as an EP could deliver, or at least talk a good game they would be respected.
    • It surprises/disappoints me too that GL's ratings during '89-'93 don't reflect the quality of the show. But when I call it great soap, I'm not defining that by ratings either.  I'm probably in the minority, but I think Reilly takes something intangible with him when he goes. There's a sense of humor that just disappears in '93.
    • Ok, I know nothing about Another World except their catchy intro song from long ago, but this makes me want to catch!  That crazy mother keeping her son's girlfriend or wife hostage, wow!
