I live for Nina vs Carly scenes and THAT did not disappoint. If Nina was overdue to give a 'if looks could kill' look at Carly. Now...GET...CARLY.

For the abruptness of this happening, I have to admit these last few episodes have been pretty good. But they have been doing it slowly, but surely. Though I did side-eye Joss with Michael. Why? Of course, they remember they are brother/sister. The better for the moment when she finds out Dax really works for Michael to take down Sonny. So clear.

I really enjoyed the Brook Lynn/Chase scenes (FYI...hmmmm hot yoga Chase). But AS wears black well. It was nice to see them with Wiley and hinting at working on some of their issues. I don't want Sasha and Cody around them, but I did like them bonding over losing people they were in love with. I had actually forgotten about Brando for a while. And went aha! Could they turn into a scheme team? Time will tell.

I really, really, REALLY loved the Liz/Cameron scenes. All the stuff going on with Liz right now. And Cameron losing Joss. You would think they would not be so islanded from each other. And it had crossed my mind a couple of weeks ago so it was great to see.

Oh...how I hollered at Diane walking into that questioning room like old times. And a Jason mention. Her logic was of course on point.

Ok what?

Willow had such a massive hatred of Nina that it made her look like a psychopath, but Carly almost lets her die and it’s all good????

The way Willow spoke to her, you would think Carly was a child.

Hopefully, Michael doesn’t forgive so easily. Not just because it would make sense, but it could also be good story purposes too.

It's funny you should say that.

I was thinking watching earlier back to when Michael cut them out of his life and went full Q and how brief it was. Has it been the same amount of time since Sonny got back from Nixon Falls? It does not feel like they are going to call a truce regardless of how things 'appear' right now.

And then throwing Carly into the mix. Would Michael go there?

Nah… Sonny’s been back a lot longer than the time it took for Michael to go full Q, and then make peace with him.

It could work if they play it right though. With Michael cutting both Sonny and Carly out of his life, that could allow them to rebuild their relationship and pave the way for a reunion. And Michael’s stubborn resistance could drive Willow into another man’s (TJ’s) arms

Exactly! I know AJ wasn't in his life for that long, but Michael cares more about Sonny banging Nina than he did about Sonny shooting AJ and killing him. At least post-AJ's death, Michael became Michael Quartermaine (a far improvement from Michael Corinthos) and took Avery from Sonny, and even was going to give her the name Avery Quartermaine. But this...? All because Sonny followed his pecker to greener pastures? Sure. Michael, honey, you are not a child anymore. Act like it.

I think Dante's motivation is much more interesting than Michael's and I wish he was more of the center of the story.  I appreciated that scene with Sam where he admitted that he hadn't done anything wrong, but he often looked the other way at Sonny's criminal "activities".  So, if Dante was manipulating Michael to finance a scheme to bring justice to Sonny that would be a better twist, in my opinion.

That being said, I am always hung up on what part of Sonny's business is actually against the law.  I know he is to blame for many other crimes, but in terms of business, he resists selling drugs, he doesn't use extortion which is the usual modus operandi of the syndicate.  I doubt he cheats on his taxes, since he was a shareholder in ELQ and donated to GH, so he would have had to disclose his IRS forms.  He imports coffee, but is that illegal?  It feels like @Vee's concerns about network interference in the writing has had a major influence in censoring the plot so that Sonny never seems culpable for any federal crimes.

Am I wrong in remembering he had some hand in Port Charles prostitution?  I recall Tammy being a sex worker that had been a dancer at Sonny’s club, and then it became unsafe for her to work when they told one of those get out of the mob stories for Sonny/Jason Late 90’s, very early 2000’s era, before she ran Kelly’s.

I always assumed he did gambling, sex workers, money laundering through his other holdings, maybe running guns too.  I know it has been made clear that he does not allow drugs.

I've discussed this before and AFAIC he absolutely did run prostitution. I remember the Tammy stuff too. Sonny and Jason used to run protection for hookers all across the PC area in the late '90s. This was onscreen from what I recall, but the show pretended he never dealt in sex work later.

The insistence that Sonny 'only imports coffee' has always been a convenient fiction. At his height he ran weapons, gambling, sex, etc until TPTB started pretending he was 'like a firefighter,' per Courtney's take in the early 2000s. He also still has many offshore or Puerto Rico-based casinos, etc. which I'm sure run a ton of vice including women and drugs. My personal take is that Sonny's organization still runs everything it always has - it's just distributed amongst his various subsidiary companies, associates, etc. so he can pretend he doesn't touch it or take money from it. Including probably some drugs. Were the show less micromanaged by the network or FV and more free to touch this topic, that's where I'd start: Scorpio breaking it down onscreen.

Agreed that Sonny's stripclub was sketchy and filled with fraud, but I'm asking about what the feds could convict him with in his current business.

At least modernize it and have Sonny be involved in online gaming and sports books.  Spinelli could be doing the programming, they could launder the credit cards through the hotel, it would make more sense and involve more characters.

I mean how many Gen Zers are out there playing poker with cash?

His offshore casinos, etc. have been in play at least as recently as Claudia Zacchara, when she and Sonny visited them during their marriage in 2009 (and were often seen or referred to throughout the 2000s, when Sonny would take women or family there). There has not been any noted change in how his businesses have been depicted since then. That's why most of us believe nothing has changed despite how the writing elides the topic.

    • Trust is very easily lost and very hard to re-build.
    • Oh, I know it was. I was just talking about how it's not giving me parallels to Caroline dying. It's really as far from it as possible.  But about the foreshadowing - Hahahhahah. Yes. And you missed one - Liam googling - "what is cancer"...
    • GH 2-17-21 Denise Alexander's last appearance https://www.instagram.com/p/DJdjXgwJ1Ez/
    • @Maxim This Liam dying out of the blue was crafted in a hurry for three reasons: 1. To facilitate JMW's leave 2. To prop Steffy - 'Oh, Steffy has so much grace and moral superiority that she ignored everything that swine HoLo did to tell her for the sake of their daughters. Queen Stephanie would be so proud of her!' 3. Distracting Steffy enough to give Lunacy an easy way to slither into Finn's life. Once Luna discovers that Lame is dying, she'll play that card: 'Dad, life is too short and precious!' If this was an intentional story, we would've had the typical B&B foreshadowing - Liam faceplanting into a bowl of pasta, Lame missing meetings, being forgetful. Instead, Lame does an impulsive quick quit and $B doesn't even care enough to make a single attempt to get him back? Please.
    • https://www.tvinsider.com/1180503/denise-alexander-dead-general-hospital-lesley-webber/ Alexander made her soap opera debut as Lois Adams on The Clear Horizon in 1960, but her big break came in 1966 when she was cast as Susan Hunter Martin on Days of Our Lives while still attending college at UCLA. As Susan, Alexander played a host of dramatic tales, including murdering her husband David Martin (played by Clive Clerk) in May 1967 after the death of their son. “She started out as the bad girl and was thrown out of boarding school for smoking and drinking,” recalled Alexander to We Love Soaps TV. “The character caught on and sparked something with the audience, and that is how Susan became an important part of the show. I was there for almost seven years…. I had such a wonderful time on Days. It was like going to camp every day for me. I loved the people, loved the show, and loved what I got to do. They loved the character and liked me as an actor and gave me lots of neat stuff to do. I didn’t even ask for a vacation for five years because if I worked 365 days a year, I thought I was great. It was a very good time in my life.” In 1973, Alexander was in contract negotiations with Days when ABC offered significant perks to the actress to join General Hospital to play Dr. Lesley Williams. Though Alexander loved her time in Salem, she decided to leave. “It was [Days’ Executive Producer] Betty Corday who sent me to General Hospital,” Alexander told welovesoaps.net. “She said, ‘You must do this.’ So when I went to General Hospital..."

    • Now that GL and LOL synopses are being added I'd welcome requests for specific soaps from 1976.
    • By 78 NBC daytime was struggling. They knew what the issues were but failed to make the changes needed to get those young gals watching.  Jan 78 Plans for NBC's daytime programs - which are in third place -are apparently less well defined at the moment. Michael Brockman, a former daytime programer at ABC, took the position of vice president in charge of daytime for NBC just a few weeks ago. He and his chief assistant, Mary Alice Dwyer (an associate of Mr. Brockman at ABC), are in the process of analyzing the network's schedule to determine where to begin making changes. One thing Mr. Brockman knows, he said, is that NBC needs more women18 -49 (NBC is currently last in that category in daytime). "Whatever you design," he said, "has to fundamentally appeal to that demographic." He indicated, however, that he is less concerned with the network's afternoon serial block than he is with its morning game show and rerun mix, and, like his counterparts at the other networks, Mr. Brockman discounts the notion that recent drops in daytime viewership may be attributable to the one -hour serial form. The first changes were indeed in the morning. In April 78 Card Sharks replaced Sanford and Son reruns at 10am and High Rollers was introduced at 11am knocking Wheel of Fortune back to 11.30 replacing Knockout. Sanford and Son moved to noon replacing To Say the Least. On paper that looked like a stronger schedule. The next move in July was the disastrous America Alive at noon, replacing Sanford and The Gong Show, which set them back even further. Finally in October 78, Jeopardy was brought back at 10.30 and Hollywood Squares moved to 1pm replacing another flop For Richer for Poorer. The only major change for the soaps apart from cancelling FRFP, was Linda Grover as headwriter for The Doctors as of April 78.
    • Yeah, Ben and Evie don't start interacting in a 'we're going to pair them together as a couple' way until Feb/March 1977 when she recommends Ben paint a portrait for Jackie.  And Evie's working for Jackie so she and Ben interact and start to become friends.  That happens after Tim breaks up with  her and she's forgiven her sister.. and he and Hope break up after he covers for his younger brother for a crime that he had committed.  Jackie does come onto the canvas in December 1976 and the first months are her trying to snag Mike while she and Justin seem to play a cat and mouse game with one another as he's trying to restart things with Sara again. I often wonder if the Phillip story only came about because the show was going to be expanded to an hour.. and the Dobson's deciding that some of the new characters they were introducing could be tied to Justin/Jackie's back story.
    • Seems like the Dobsons were aiming for a Joe/Sara/Justin triangle or, having decided that Joe would be killed off, Justin would be waiting in the wings. But that never came to pass and I don't think there was much reference to Justin/Sara as time went on.That was something that could have been used later on but Doug Marland may not have known or cared. Also, when the show went to an hour they could add a lot of characters and not rely on the stalwarts, hence Jackie/Alan/Elizabeth. And after Leslie died, Mike went into Dad mode with Hope. Hope/Ben never took off and Hope was replaced and then dropped and Ben moved on to Eve, whose romance with Tim fizzled and Jordan Clarke left (by choice?)
