I get it for free through Comcast, though I'm sure that won't last forever. I'm inclined to say I wouldn't pay for it because I find nothing else of value on Peacock. If the show moves to a less-than-daily schedule, which is probably likely, I suppose I'd buy a month every so often and binge. All bets are off if they actually uploaded '70s, '80s and '90s episodes, though -- that would definitely make me a subscriber.

That's what I do. I watch peacock on my smart tv. I need the full view. I don't pay for yearly subscription ever in case shows are taken off so I can cancel anytime I want to

It is amusing that as I get older I recall hearing the same arguments about the value of entertainment over and over again, until we all just get used to it.

When cable tv came out everyone yelled about paying money to watch commercials.  When Howard Stern went to Sirius everyone squawked about paying to listen to the radio in your car.  When movies charged a premium for big releases everyone said that they'd never pay more than ten bucks to watch a movie.

What I will lament is the loss of mass media when 30% of the daytime audience watched the same show.  Gone are the days when everyone knew Erica Kane or Luke Spencer because less than 1% of the population can watch a show and it is considered a hit.  It reduces the opportunities to discuss entertainment with people from a variety of backgrounds like the community that has been found on these boards.

With the current state of soaps I wouldn't buy a subscription service to see newer episodes

. With the added promise of the entire classic library available that might be a seller.

If soap fans want bad soaps for free they'll go to Pluto Tv.....

They're not paying for it.

The poll here is a very very very small sample but it doesn't look good.

Who knows maybe the future of soaps is once or twice a week on streaming. Less scripts, better production values, smaller casts, better writing. Maybe.

What saddens with the collapse of soaps and daytime tv in general (even primetime) is the loss of appointment viewing. Everybody tuning in at the same time daily to have a show to talk about at the water cooler. There's a certain comfort and joy in knowing you're home sick from work but Days of Our Lives is 1:00 , Judge Judy and Oprah are on at 4:00. Something to look forward to daily. As much as I love streaming I will say people still complain about the lack of things to watch because over abundance of choice leads to paralysis. There's something nice about having shows chosen for you (in a addition to choosing what you want to watch and when you want to watch it).

This thread here reminds me of when seventeen years ago when World of Soap Themes (WOST) became a pay site for a $25 annual membership to keep the site going. There was a lot of backlash but I paid it because I wanted to see the classic and other material (YouTube was in infancy) and the discussion board was amazing.

Now in 2022 I am already paying for Peacock most likely to negligence on my part about ending the free trial as an entire running soap opera is about be put behind a paywall.

This will never not be surreal.

    • I'll even go further... I'll make her re-think BeLief and create a new patent. Brooke needs stuff to do. Anything other than beg or be in her panties. We need her to be creative. But sadly Bradley has a very low opinion of these characters. To him Brooke is nothing more than sex and scandal... or a pathetic doormat. Ridge is nothing more than a chauvinist pig that needs to pit women against each other to feel like A MAN and Steffy is nothing more than her father's guard-dog. I don't even want to open my mouth about Hope. She is such a fiasco in my opinion... I will not suffer if they kill her off. Bradley pooped on her character and now it's too late to fix it. Annika is great and I would hate to see her go, but slutty Hope was not her thing. The vibe was missing.
    • I've seen Jason interact with Mitch and annoy him. That's as far as I recall. I didn't even have a slight idea that Evan had a vendetta against Rachel... That came as a surprise to me. I thought Evan was Iris's dog and that's it. Now he's definitely more interesting.
    • Thanks for these. I can't recall -- did Evan's vendetta have any position on Mitch, or was it all about Rachel? @Maxim have you seen any Frames intreracting with Mitch in any way?
    • Thank you for the tag! It's always a pleasure to see these little pearls of memories.
    • Uh-oh. Today just might’ve been the first Paula/Jeanne stinker. I have a feeling whose fault that might be though. So, Doug III is getting a job at the Pub?  It’s good to see him interact with other characters. I enjoyed his scenes with Roman, even though the talk of Frankie and Max seemed a little random. And it also could be really interesting now that Tate knows. Days really need to start pushing their rivalry again. We need some follow up from the punch. Tying it all to Holly, to Sophia’s pregnancy, to the guys that Doug III owes money to could be good.  But yeah, wayyy too much Leo again in today’s episode. Seriously, has anything changed with this nothing character? I thought it was all Ron’s fault, but maybe Greg Rikaart is (partially) responsible for Leo being so insufferable.  And yeah seriously, Rafe needs to throw all of these people out of his house. Including Gabi

But I do wonder who’s the mysterious voice that Gabi overheard with EJ on the night he was shot. Based on yesterday’s episode, I have a suspicion.
    • Add me to the group of people who think that Brandon has improved. He has. There's no doubt about it. Especially compared to the beginning. And he's improving in a way that... it makes me think that he realizes what the issues are and is addressing them. Of course, he's no master of acting at this point... but I don't cringe as much as I did. And I've seen people in Bold... I won't even have to name names, because everyone knows who they are... who are becoming even worse than what they were offering in the first place. So... I'm happy that in BTG... people are actually blossoming and improving. It surely means that the atmosphere is creative and nurturing talent.  BUT and it's a big butt... his relationship with his husband is still so lacking and ghastly. I am craving to see more action from these guys. I want to see Smitty's character. If he has any.
    • Thank you. You guys come to the rescue again. I'll take a look later.   Thank you for the info!!! Now I find myself less confused. You and @DRW50 are amazing.
    • I know Passions used this trope with Ethan and Sam to drag out the paternity, but GH seems to speed through certain stories while dragging others.
    • For any other soap, I think I’d agree, but GH, I don’t know

    • Agreed, that there was some strange choices in the episode, especially at the end, but overall, that was some great drama that opens up the potential for so much future storyline. Kat vs. Eva having the most potential, especially over Tomas. I have mixed feelings about Martin/BC though. I thought he did pretty well in scenes with Smitty/MM, but the scenes of him confronting Leslie and of him throwing the books were bad lol she acted circles around him.  It’s similar to what Harding Lemay said about George Reinholt at AW; he could be brilliant in one scene, but then mediocre in the next.
