Here's an optimistic take for when a show attracted 300,000 less viewers than it did two years ago and only 2 out of 1000 viewers in the 18-39 demo watched it.

In the latest TV show ratings, CBS’ two-hour presentation of the 2022 Daytime Emmy Awards averaged 2.8 million total viewers, up 10 percent in audience from last year’s ceremony yet shy of the tally for 2019’s very virtual telecast (3.1 mil). In the demo, the Daytime Emmys matched last year’s 0.2 rating.

According to Wikipedia the 2012 show on HLN got approximately the same number of viewers at 2 million, 2002 got 10.1 million on CBS, 1992 got 20 million viewers on NBC.  So, some quick math tells me that is a 85% loss of viewers over 30 years.

By contrast the Primetime Emmys have lost 60% of their audience over 30 years.  The Grammy's and Tony's are down 30%, but the annual numbers fluctuate widely.  And the Oscars are down 67% over the same time period.

It's easier said than done, depending on what your politics are and if they always linger on the back of your mind when you're watching an actor whose beliefs conflict with you own. For some, supporting an administration and a political ideology that they view as cancerous to the integrity of the nation is hard to overcome in someone, despite talent or that person playing a fictional character.

That said, I don't think politics cost Brown an Emmy - if that was the case, I don't think she would have been nominated in the first place and the Academy has awarded some with similar politics in the past. For whatever reason, GH actors submitted well in the Support categories this year, or had reels that were easier to digest for the voting panel.

Kimberlin has also never faired well with this particular award show. This was only her second nomination and her last was almost 30 years ago during her first stint on Y&R! She lost that year to Ellen Parker of GL, so competition was stiff and she likely didn't have a chance that year either.

I would agree that I'm not sure how much of  a role politics plays. Soaps are arguably  the most conservative genre now on television, maybe aside from all those miserable Yellowstone shows some people keep trying to force on the public. Ingo Rademacher kept a job for years spewing all kinds of [!@#$%^&*] on Twitter until his complete irrelevance and aging did him in. Melissa Reeves is a mess and she still comes and goes from DAYS when she chooses.

I'm a nut for In Memoriums. I have to see them. I love them. I try not to be a critic for once in my life. I don't think in my whole life I have ever seen one ended with a comic touch. They made an exception to the rule! They let Betty White make us laugh one more time. What a clever idea someone had!

    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
    • Yup.  You can hate John all you want, but like seriously he was the cornerstone of the show for years.  So he should get a long ass funeral and burial and all the things because Drake and John deserve that.

      look who’s at a party I’m at
    • Yes. We should absolutely move on from John/Drake's 40 year legacy on the show to see what Leo is going to do tomorrow.  Lol.  This can't be a serious post.

I came in with a dream and left with a purpose. From lecture halls to rehearsals, community work to creative sets, every moment shaped me. I’m so proud of the stories I’ve told here — and the ones still unfolding. Grateful to everyone who poured into me, supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. Fours up and peace out! #UCLA #ClassOf2025 #BlackBruinExcellence #YearbookVideo @jordanward
    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!
