Nate's skill set includes looking handsome, feigning concern for others, being offered (and accepting) multiple jobs, living in phantom properties, engaging in a non romance with a bland woman and generally being a waste of space.

Sure is pretty though...

OK let's break down Y&R's latest story.

After being ignored by several regimes over the years, the decision is made to reference Keemo.

For most viewers he would be an unknown quantity, especially when Jack has not mentioned him in specific discussions about family and fatherhood.

So good storytelling would be to mention him prior to the story beginning eg at Xmas.

Didn't happen.

Y&R then decide to establish that up until recently Jack and Keemo had a solid relationship, which contradicts everything played onscreen. Keemo never appeared or was mentioned during family crises and celebrations-highly unlikely under those circumstances.

Surely it would be more appropriate for Jack to state that he and Keemo had been estranged for years to the point they had lost contact.

Not unreasonable for an adult son to have difficulty bonding with a newfound family, especially as Keemo was quite a prickly character.

Moving on - the decision was made to kill off Keemo. OK, an adult son for Jack may not be the best fit story wise whereas a young female relative has more story potential.

So the stage is set to have Jack to attempt to get close to this new character who brings some diversity to the canvas. Lot's of potential there.

But within a week or so we get the Diane reveal.

So in addition to the long lost relative they pile on Back from the Dead.

A character who we saw die onscreen who has nothing to do with the other story. So now we have to swallow some ridiculous story about a fake death.

In bringing back Diane we know have to deal with Kyle, her son.

But Kyle had already been written into a corner by unwisely marrying him off (for the 3rd time) and giving him a kid.

Now if Kyle returns long term they have to deal with Summer and Harrison.

Will be interesting to see this play out onscreen.

Listen, I'm putting a pin in that because I'm still trying to wrap my head around the current 'climax' to the Ashland story where he just walks out on Victoria when he's confronted and that's it. That can't be all!!

At this point the show just should go for broke and have Ashland being a Prentiss family member after all and went after Newman as a means for revenge based on instructions from an undead 102-year old Vanessa Prentiss living in a snazzy Barcelona nursing home villa

Lol I jest for sure @kalbir but have been very puzzled by all TPTB decisions as of late, as if they have Finally realized how slow they have been to react. Pretty much all storylines like Ashland faking and Diane’s return came out of nowhere overnight I feel like the entire Y&R writing will be dismissed at some point soon.

I think most fans have given up on this show ever returning to Bell's stylized melodrama, but would it kill them to hire people who could at least write something resembling conflict, and one coherent and interesting story?

It's not just the fact Y&R has strayed far from its roots, but it's more so the show is so damn uninteresting/boring and has not been able to tell one damn consistent story for like the past 15 years. If they wanted to change Y&R's signature style, fine (begrudgingly), but at least write something interesting

Like others, I do wonder if a lot of what's happening now with Allie/Keemo and Diane is rather hastily added on. It's got actual, potential life to it unlike most of what Griffith does. The Ashland story could very easily fizzle out too.

Y&R today is simply cruising on its audience loyalty and a very thin budget, marking time. There doesn't seem to have been any compelling interest in shaking anything up or out of moribund torpor for a long while. The attempts to turn it into a Fronsian ABCD soap didn't really take off, but the echoes of that are all that's really left. So these recent changes (while nothing particularly spectacular so far) are surprising.

Chelsea and Rey being friends is unbelievable. Why is he even talking to her after what she did? I'm back here again. I decided I'm done with that other soap website. I got tired of the mods deleting my threads for no reason. The last 2 threads I posted were removed the same day I posted them. I'm done wasting my time there. I remember someone else posting a thread that called the mods a really bad word. LOL

    • I’m hoping to start getting to know Vernon better this month. He’s really only been a bunch of noble and good tropes so far. I don’t want him to be taken down the way Ted has been, but it seems he was a long-running Senator and no matter what party you are, lasting longer than twenty years means you’re looking out for you (and not who you’re supposed to be looking out for) most of all. I want to get to know both Vernon and Anita beyond their Dupree posturing. Clifton Davis can sleepwalk handling the kind of material Christopher Bernau and David Lewis handled and I’d like to see more than just a saint.
    • I thought Emily/Hal was a really interesting pairing. And I think KMH played that version of Emily very well! It might not have been what people wanted from Emily, and the writing got pretty gross at the end, but I thought she embodied that character effectively.
    • Don't know if this exactly fits here, but it is connected: Does this abandoned building look familiar? It is one of those explorer videos - and the outside may look VERY familiar if one watched GH in the '70s and '80s!

    • So, I have been in the hospital all week. I am close to being up to date on my soaps. Now I have to go to the Infusion Ctr daily to get IV antibiotics, for 6 weeks. I am frankly exhausted. A hospital is no place to be when you're sick. Hooked up to machines that go beep beep beep all day & night long. Someone wakes you up every hour on the hour for something, either to stick you with needles or to take your gosh-awful blood pressure for the umpteenth time. So, you don't get any sleep. Now I have a central line, upper right chest. After they "installed" it, I said, I am now Borg. They just stared at me. Apparently scifi is not general knowledge. What happened? I have an infection inside my big toe right foot & it burned the skin on my foot. The burned skin is already better. It was like a bad sunburn. The infection inside the toe is the issue. Oral antibiotics won't even get its attention. So, IV antibiotics plus time.

As Salem bids farewell to John Black on Monday, the "Days" family and fans say a final goodbye to Drake Hogestyn.   From his time as a young man playing baseball in the minor leagues for the New York Yankees to his almost four-decade run as John Black, Drake always did his best. And, while becoming a soap opera icon, he spent almost 40 years at "Days" telling the best stories and taking the younger cast under his wing to make sure they would do their best as well. Thank you, Drake, for the legacy you have left for everyone at "Days." The impact you made on the cast, crew and fans will never be forgotten...and that's a fact.
    • I found an interview with Joseph Breen (Will Jeffries) where he mentions that Reva was put in a coma so Zimmer could go to Hollywood to do a pilot (OMG, if ONLY it had been picked up, LOL) and that Sonni and Josh and Will became a popular with the audience while she was out of commission.  If you want to read the whole thing: https://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=47394 Breen was known for being very candid in interviews, I wish I could find more of them. I seem to recall he made a couple of snarky comments about Zimmer, implying she was not above acting like a diva. Sounded to me like he had a lot of respect for Forbes (who went on to have a very strong and varied career after GL).
    • I was so confused why Devon was prying into Nicks love life and then it clicked and I remembered they’re brother-in-laws. Shows how little I pay attention to this show anymore. I was like uh? Do these two even know each other this well?
    • The Bell soaps, B&B and Y&R: cannot watch. If I went by the last time I did I would have to give them both D- but I really don't think it counts when you're not a daily watcher.  DAYS: B+ (Now this is with the knowledge that for years I have given this show a D- because I've been a fan for too long to give it the F it deserved.) GH: A+ (With Korte driving this bus to me the show is so much better! IMO we just had the best NB in so many years I cannot count!) BTG: A solid (Things I love, a few I do not, nothing I hate, still find it in general remarkable.) As always, thanks for doing this thread. I count it. I always look for it & I always post.
    • Okay, I continue to maintain that what is so good about this particular reveal followed by umbrella storyline is that you can see & understand many different points of view where there is not one bad guy or one 100% right person.  About your stated opinion, that Lois & Gloria did the right thing, you know that this was technically an illegal adoption? For it to have been legal the father, if known, would have to have been informed & have signed off on terminating his own paternal rights. And, of course, it is clear how many people they lied to.  Personally I feel like Lois is going to take the biggest "public" blame with Lulu a close second in the blame category. I am looking forward to a tongue lashing I hope Brook Lynn gives to Gloria. I continue to be more than annoyed with Dante. First his attitude toward Gio with regards to Rocco & a drinking game & its results. Second his attitude toward Lulu. Meanwhile enjoying the show every day!
    • Lois and Gloria did the right thing I feel knowing it was Camila that raised Gio has BL feeling some jealousy No one is saying that Camila was a bad mother to Gio I believe it will be Gio saying that Camila was great to him, thanking Lois and Gloria to get BL to see truth
