I think they feel like they are honoring real Y&R. It used to be a great way to have all sorts of dissimilar characters mixing it up, working in different roles that highlighted different sides of characters (Dru modeling, Ashley in the lab), backstabbing, and forming alliances. But they’re no longer able to properly dramatize these stories. Jabot doesn’t even have a set.

Most of the business happens at lunch, which ok. But it’s a lot of tell and no show.

It really does feel like they’re leaning into a light, family-friendly vibe. Like the viewers are too delicate for anything heavy. I’m glad we didn’t get a Devon/Abby custody battle—that wouldn’t have done anyone any good—but this show will tease a bit of explosive potential drama, then immediately defuse it.

I'm still confused as to how they sped away so fast from SSM's "boring, nothing happens" version of the show yet have been firmly planted in this infinitely more dreadful zone for so long.

In the past, when Y&R was still run by competent people, their corporate storylines, typically revolving around Jabot and Newman Enterprises, were the most riveting, because they knew that the more specific they were, the bigger the stakes for everyone involved.

Chance is joining the ranks of Y&R male characters who are characterized by their man pain. That's how you know that TPTB are invested. He's another Billy and Adam. Same characters.

Tessa and Mariah just got engaged and plan to adopt a child.  I think (hope) the show is finally bringing Tessa/Mariah away from the dreadful Dominic storyline.

Mariah carried the child for 9 months and went through a traumatic kidnapping that resulted in a unplanned 'home' birth. she bravely tried to self care and protect 'Bowie'

Her subsequent attachment to the child was pretty much condemned by all concerned and she had to shape up quicksmart.

Meanwhile Devon makes a quickie deposit (what? maybe 20 mins depending on the porn at hand)and yet he's allowed access and custody because his feels are more important.

Devon needs to chat with Chelsea and Adam .They both have kids (Johnny and Christian) that they couldn't give a toss about.

Those two are going to grow up and be like-

My mom/dad was living in town and regularly crossed path with  my 'parents' (Billy and Nick)and had no interested in having anything to do with me, but were full on parents to their other kid (Connor).

Johnny is Victoria's son in every way that matters.  Chelsea contributed genetic material via raping Billy.  Chelsea is NOT Johnny's mother.  I feel very strongly about this!  Chelsea should NEVER have any claim on Johnny.  Never.

Christian is a different story.  His mother Sage wanted Adam to not claim fatherhood, so that she could have a relationship with Nick.  Or some such convoluted mess. They made this agreement, and the whole thing came out later, and Nick found out later, and they all continued to honor Sage's wishes after she died, and everyone agreed to keep Christian as Adam's nephew.  It's odd but I think it's okay.

But is it not something that should be explored or even mentioned?

Mariah and Devon have both been given a voice regarding their parental feelings but not a wimper from Chelsea. Is Johhny aware that he has a bio mom-who was married to his uncle? Surely Johnny and Connor would interact at family birthdays and such?

    • GET THAT HEFFA, NOSY NURSE!!!   I'm sorry to see Smitty and June coming to a middle ground. It seem like that tension would be between them for at least one more story arc. A writing change?   I'm sorry but I love the teen unit of Ty, Samantha, and Jessica (and Rocco, Danny, Charlotte over on GH which is what today is reminding me of). I'm a sucker for soap teens. lol.
    • I really hope Laura doesn’t get reelected. She doesn’t deserve it. Imagine her campaign staff, freaking out at the Metro Court as election results come in while she’s hanging out with Sonny.
    • Thanks for that. It was great to see her in an interview. She's very likable. Although it was somewhat confusing. What new soap is she talking about going on audition for in 1973. Was it The Young and the Restless? Is it just me or did they never even say the name of this soap opera? Days wasn't new in 1973 and there was no "Jack" with three daughters on The Young and the Restless. What soap are they talking about? The editing around that part was weird and choppy. I felt like there was a chunk missing or something. And I'm not sure why she was saying she got colorectal cancer from HPV and said it's because she never got the HPV vaccine but then said she's never had anal sex. I'm not a doctor but that didn't seem to make any medical sense. I don't know. Maybe I'm tired. It just seemed like some of this interview didn't make sense.
    • If it helps any, the last script cover from the Elman papers that I have is from episode #3,736 airdate November 15, 1977. Writers are the Hollands with Frank Salisbury.
    • B&B really does look incredible. The lighting and the polished sets have made a significant difference how visually appealing the show is now.
    • I found the problem with the Labine era was that the show lost some humour when the Labines came on and it could be dull. They also didn't seem to understand some of the characters. As others have said, it looks fantastic in comparison to the next regime but I just remember boredom being the primary response.
    • Something I didn't realize: Frank Ashmore, who played Monica's investigator Corrigan in 1981, was also Victor, the third guy in the cockpit, in Airplane!
    • Thanks, maybe I will skim through those episodes.  I have previously binged late 1985 through early 1987; April-June, August 1992 (I skipped Carlo Hesser murder trial), Jan-March 1995 and I began watching in 2006. I just struggle to stay consistent with routines especially binging routines haha
    • I could've sworn we went over the Bobbie thing a while ago, and saw her introduced to Rick and Lesley as "Nurse Barbara" in very late '77? Or was that early '78? I know the clip is online. Jackie always credited Marland with creating her IIRC.
    • Thanks.  Loon Lake - very on the nose. With that "dad" outfit Bo looks even more like Cassie's father...
