They need to write in a scene where Taylor rips off her wig a la Kimberly on Melrose Place.

I'd love to see Quinn rip it off during a fight since Rena was on Melrose. It could be like when Matt pulled Kimberly's wig off in the hospital hallway and just held it up in front of her.

For God's sake, they could have had KA Hunter emerge from a chic beauty salon saying, "I feel like a new woman!".

I'd assume they're using the wig so that people her alikeness is closer to Hunter Tylo. Hopefully they'll ditch it soon enough and just say Taylor had a haircut.

I think this is the rationale here.
It is not that Taylor cannot have a shorter hairdo; it is that they figured that to make viewers comfortable with the recast, it was better to first made her look as close as possible with the overall look we mostly associate with Taylor in order to build familiarity.
I mean we all can remember recasts who initially at least were made to look like the previous actor*ress before adapting to their own new style once they were accepted in the role.

I am sure later it won't matter as much but they wanted her to look like Taylor for the first impressions. The rationale isn't absurd; what's absurd is that they couldn't find a better wig

Didn't read much of the thread before posting, but let's not forget that Gina Tognoni dyed her hair red in order to become Phyllis but eventually stopped having to do that on "The Young and the Restless." Kristen Alderson had to dye her hair in order to separate herself from Starr when she became Kiki on "General Hospital," same for Sarah Brown (although by choice) when she became Claudia vs playing Carly years earlier. The use of a wig does change things slightly, but it's not unheard of to accommodate audience acceptance of an actor taking over a role they've been used to for years.

GT coloured her hair for Dinah as well. While I find KA’s wig oppressive (it literally looks heavy) I’d be lying if I said that it doesn’t give me the Taylor silhouette that makes such transitions easier to swallow. This is a believable recast. I don’t have to do the mental gymnastics to remind myself that this is the same character like I still sometimes do with TK.

Good!! 😂

The interesting thing is since DAYS Krista has done many things in the industry, including standup comedy, so she's approaching her return with a sense of humour rarely seen in actors. She's hashtagging #PartyCity about the wig.

And then she reposted this gem:
