think the China Beach DVDs are out of print and hard-to-find/very expensive now, but trying to hunt down an affordable set is well worth the effort. Dana Delaney cannot be praised enough for her work on this series.

just took a look on amazon, where the entire series can be had for less than $100 — not as awful as i would have expected.

in addition to dana delany, who was on ‘world turns in the early ‘80s, i  remembered another soap connection:

in a memorable episodes from the last season, ‘small step,’ finn carter (sierra from ‘world turns) plays a nurse who helps boonie heal after he’s lost his leg.

I love St E and am rewatching it on Hulu for the first time in years. It looks pretty good but it’s probably not HD.

I would love to see Family on one of the streamers. It is on Decades, I believe, but I don’t get that any more. I did get to see some episodes when Decades still had a local affiliate. On my wish for a DVD release: the scenes with “second Nancy” Jane Actman, who shot a handful of episodes of season 2 before being replaced with Meredith Baxter Birney, who reshot all of Actman’s scenes before the season premiere.

In Canada, neither Hulu nor Decades are available to us, unfortunately.

If you are in Canada you can watch Family on the CTV app.  I haven’t started it yet because I know it will consume my life!

I am a complete and abject failure at internet technology. I could not get this app to work for me when I desperately tried to install and use it months ago. I'll give it another shot. It couldn't hurt. Thanks for the reminder. If St. Elsewhere were also available in Canada on the CTV app, I would move heaven and earth to make it function for me. But...Family alone is enough incentive.

I am too young to have seen the Slut of Springfield fountain moment on-screen when it aired.
But when I did end up seeing it, years and years later, after hearing of it so many times for so many reasons (Iconic! The acting! etc.) over so many years, I was thoroughly underwhelmed.
I get Reva and Kim Zimmer's popularity because her charisma shines. But I don't get why *that* scene stuck to people.

I did not "get" the appeal, either, and I was still watching TGL "live" in those days. Then again, I never really wanted Reva on the show in the first place, considering how much airtime she hogged. Her histrionics just made me grimace.

Actually, that's not a bad price for all the seasons combined. I'd pay that.

And Jeff Kober, Dodger on CB, is now on GH, to add another soap connection.

You're a fellow Canuck! Welcome! You understand my pain! 😆 I'll have a look and see what BFlix has, though I don't much enjoy streaming outside the "legal" platforms.

Reva has only really appealed to me during the Annie story, and even then, she's just a bit much, I agree.

I must say, however, that the best, most gratifying and rewarding DVD release of a TV series which featured an enormous amount of popular music was China Beach. Time-Life took years, and obviously went through a ton of work, to get everything just right. Only 30 seconds of the original TV series had to be cut out, because a character quoted lyrics from a song that the producers could not obtain the rights to use. But no fan will complain after discovering that the complete collection on disc contains more than 300 (!!!) popular songs from the past.

Soap fans who have never seen China Beach should definitely try to check it out. It's more riveting, emotional and addictive than anything on daytime TV right now. (Is that...an unpopular opinion?)

The only thing I really remember about China Beach is that "Reflections" by The Supremes was its theme song.

I remember the final.season jumped around and I was so confused as a kid.  My mom explained it was showing how all the characters coped with civilian life after the trauma of being in Vietnam

For some reason, things that are on Hulu in the USA are often included with Disney Plus in Canada. That's how I watch Only Murders in the Building.

I enjoyed the season of Dallas that was later deemed to have been a dream. Barbara Carrera, John Beck, Marc Singer. I was convinced that Marc Singer was going to become a big star. Well, I've been wrong about other things, too.

I was glad to have Bobby back, but the dream season was a lot of fun.

1984/1985 season was the peak of the big four primetime soaps. It wasn't a good idea for CBS/ABC to launch any primetime soaps after that season.

1985/1986 was when the big four starting going down and they really should have been done by 1987/1988.

Be careful! I had never heard of that site until now, seeing you refer to it. I just tried to go to and open it, but my virus software blocked the site completely.

And thank heavens, that remained its theme song in the DVD release!

Ahh, Disney Plus, yet another service I do not have. (I don't subscruibe to cable.)

Well, Singer did become a somewhat recognizable name thanks to The Beastmaster and V. He became very popular in MY house for looking so sexy in a loincloth and tight jeans, LOL!

Speaking of Knots Landing, I was a Val and Ben fan...and thought Val and Gary were too toxic with one another.

On Dallas, I preferred Bobby and Pam broken up.  He and Jenna were good together and I was hoping Pam would have finally gone toe to toe with Jr.

On Dynasty, both Krystle and Alexis were too good for Blake.

I really  cannot stomach the Val/Gary pairing. I  don't think it's a coincidence that the strongest years of the show are when they are not together. Gary/Abby and Val/Ben are their ultimate pairings  as they got to be more rounded people, instead of still pretending they were 20 years old.

Again, this show is still on the air - but on GH, I thought Tamara Braun and Natalia Livingston were better as Carly and Emily than Sarah Brown and Amber Tamblyn. OK, you can throw tomatoes at me now. 😉

Agreed!!! She Carry her Carly with some black girl swag lbvs.

Dana Delaney showed great promise on Love of Life shortly before it was cancelled. Too bad the show didn't last a couple years more.

Dana also had a walk-on on Ryan’s Hope in the late 70s. Definitely a “blink and you missed her” situation. Too bad - she might have been a good Mary recast. Certainly better than the ones we got.

The Dream Season was great

If Knots Landing and Dynasty had a baby it would Dallas Dream Season

The ironic thing about that season it really had a dreamy surreal tone even though it was supposed to play as a straight up continuation of the previous season

Hopping on the China Beach love.

Fantastic groundbreaking show

Too bad network tv doesn't take risks with drama series anymore
