Another show I loved that has gone down the tubes. The days of Charles Kuralt and Osgood gone. I think the last show I enjoyed was the one with Olivia Newton-John in 2019 discussing her career and cancer recurring for the third time.  Loved seeing her looking and seeming to feel good even if it was Gayle King interviewing her. She actually still fit into the leather pants she wore in Grease.

I read the Shelly Ross op-ed piece in the NY Times this morning and I have some thoughts.  For those who have not seen the reporting on Ms. Ross's essay, most of the social media coverage has been about an incident in 2005, 16 years ago, when Chris Cuomo grabbed Ms. Ross's ass at her goodbye party when they both worked at ABC.

However, I think the headline (which was written by an editor as clickbate) and the coverage diverts attention form Ms. Ross's actual opinion.  She clearly states that she swatted his hand away and he wrote her an apology followed by a phone call stating his regrets the next day.  She also notes that she doesn't want him cancelled or fired.

Her objection is that Cuomo was allowed to continue reporting for CNN while consulting with his brother on sexual harassment charges.  I guess we are to infer that Chris not only shouldn't have consulted with Mario due to his job at CNN, but also because he had a history of harassment with Ms. Ross.

Yet, I have two issues with this piece.  First, why now?  There have multiple reports on how inappropriate it was for Chris to consult with Mario, and CNN publicly condemned the behavior.  Second, does an ass grab followed by a poorly written apology make the first offense any worse?  I would argue that it doesn't.  Whether or not Chris Cuomo grabs asses in the workplace, he shouldn't have been allowed to report on his brothers allegations while employed at CNN.  It may seem natural to advise one's brother when they are in a crisis, but the fact that it was so well known, should have required consequences for Chris at CNN.

As for Ms. Ross, I am grateful that the digital edition linked to stories about her poor management style which got her fired at ABC and CBS.  Because, for me the only thing that this op-ed piece really validated is that people in privileged positions, like Ross and Cuomo, are allowed to continue to be bad managers as they move from one company to the next, based on who they know rather than any demonstration of their skills.  But, as we've all experienced. that is true in media, business, or the local coffee shop.

    • I mean, he is but he's also still an ásshole.
    • The most beautiful thing about getting into a new soap opera is getting to know the characters yourself and figuring everything out slowly. And EON is one of the easiest when it comes to that. Pretty soon you are so well oriented in who is who and what are their motivations. I only struggled with the episodes before Mansion of the damned started.  Then after that it's pretty smooth sailing.
    • I don't hate Hayley but she would absolutely cry about falling for Jacob.
    • @BroderickThank you for the reply. Such acting that they Sharon Gabet and the actor playing Draper still played their relationship after it's over. I picked up on it even though I had no idea about their history. That's such good acting/continuity.  Raven has just moved to London and a custody battle is now brewing for Jamey.
    • Ha-ha-ha, I thought it was Marland who turned Mike into a jerk, but apparently not. I get that they probably felt the Mike/Leslie story had run its course, but they should have at least let them have a kid. Especially since they were soon ensnaring him in a storyline with a woman who couldn't have children (Elizabeth). Of course, no one could have predicted there would be a dearth of Bauers a few years later. I remember this! I remember Holly sitting by the phone, desperate for Ed to call so they could stop the divorce. I forgot it was Rita who never gave him the message. What a bitch.

But, yeah, this is the Rita I remember at the beginning: very determined to bag Ed. I contend that Holly never, ever got over it, never stopped regretting that the divorce went through. I wish at some point over the years they had let Holly and Ed reunite for more than a brief affair. It feels like a thread that was left hanging. There she is! I was beginning to think I had dreamed up the Rita/Tim/Evie triangle.
    • In the interview posted on knotslanding.net, William Devane described the Greg/Paige storyline as "juvenile".  From that interview I also got the impression that William Devane was on his way out near the end so he wouldn't have returned if there was a season 15.
    • Just started this show. I’m on episode 3. I’m starting to make the connections and understand the family tree better. Still will take time to fully understand everything but it’s exciting. So glad we have a new soap opera in 2025! Excited to join the discussion once I’m caught up.
    • Haley and Jacob had more chemistry in their small interaction than I ever saw between Naomi and Jacob. Same with Haley and Derek actually - that was one of the few times I can recall Derek ever having any life in him.
    • -- Anita going through Ted and Nicole's wedding album. Really??? -- Dani defending Ted in her conversation with Nicole. Really??? -- Bill wants a child with Hayley. Really??? -- Many people are saying "Dana can't be Eva's mother" because of the way Dana treats her. Maybe she's not her mother, but that biological connection has nothing to do with it. Dana has functioned as Eva's mother all of her life. There's no reason to believe giving birth to her makes the difference. -- Hayley is hilarious for being so clueless and tone deaf when she comments on others' mistakes and flaws. God, she's dumb. -- Alex Alegria continues to suck as Tomas. Soooooo wooden. -- Ambyr Michelle stole the episode.
