Don't these people in charge understand that the quest to imitate prime time shows turned out to be daytime's undoing?  I'm all for updating, but it seems like Mal Young hates soaps and I think if you have disdain for a medium, you shouldn't be working in it.

Mishael didn’t quit so he’s lying. There is literally an interview with her agent who said that Y&R wasn’t willing to work with her so obviously everything he said is a lie!

And I’m all for diversity but to build an entire family around an unsuccessful character?! Tf? I could understand giving Ravi one sibling because he had goodwill from the audience but even then that’s it. Why does Arturo need an entire family?

Right? Who cares about Arturo? Or Rey?

And especially after this report:

https://tvsourcemagazine.com/2018/08/report-are-the-ashbys-being-phased-out-at-the-young-and-the-restless/

So, where does that leave Cane, Mattie and Charlie while Lily is in jail? We hear they might be slowly phased out.  Sources are calling it a “blatant shift from the Winters/Ashbys to the newly created Rosales family.” Speaking of the Winters, if you’re wondering what that means for Devon and Neil, we’re told that Devon’s noticeable lack of screen time in the aftermath of his own wife’s death is no coincidence. While we couldn’t gather contractual information on either Bryton James or Kristoff St. John, we were told “the Winters Wednesdays of years past will look like a feast compared to what’s coming up.”

FYI there were NO Fall Previews for any of the Winters or black characters. None. For none of them.

Y&Rs production looks like sh*t!! What is Mal smoking??

the dark lighting and zoom ins which are “outdated” are Y&Rs staple and made it look more “prime time” for almost 30 years or so...

And Paul and Cricket were NEVER obsessed with “taking down the Newman’s” that’s only In more recent times...he won’t use DD and LLB but he hires this newbie detective...

It's Jill Farren Phelps, just in male form.

I'm all for updating a soaps look. But what worked for Y&R shouldn't need to change, it used to have amazing shots and direction ... sigh. I could go on a tangent but I won't.

They need to accept the fact that these are soaps. They aren't primetime shows. Stop trying to be what you aren't. That's one of the things killing these soaps. You can re-invent the wheel without trying to copy primetime. But that falls on a talented executive. Mal's not one of those.

AMC and OLTL 2.0 with no budget was better looking and produced. Those had the looks of an updated soap while still being you know, a soap. While not flawless, THAT is how you update a soap for modern audiences. I really think they came too soon (soaps being before their time, go figure) and were more or less doomed to fail from the start.

This interview with Mal is what you call "damage control". Frank did a similar interview or two around the Genie debacle.

I've seen people get all hot and bothered by Arturo. He was received fairly well, actually. I don't care either way about him.

Why not bring back David Lago? (Unless he's smart enough to not want to come back but I doubt they bothered to ask). You don't need Jordi Vilasuso. But we know the agenda.

I mean, look how they want to act as if Dru or Victoria Rowell never existed. They know she's been right in what she's been saying all along. But no one wants to listen. It's sad people are deemed crazy when they tell the truth that people just don't want to hear.

More of the same BS. This show doesn't look like primetime at all. The show used to have a flourish, now it looks like local access with the overblown bright lighting (which is cheaper than properly lighting the sets, I wish they would just admit that).

I'm sorry but those shows looked like crap. Cheap with bare unfinished looking sets.

When they tried to give Raul a brother they ended up hiring aryan nation candidate Greg Vaughn.

    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
    • There’s absolutely nothing exciting happening storyline wise but I’m always happy to see the vets on my screen so I’ll take what I can get. It’s also just nice to see them all dressed up in the same room, it always gives classic Y&R vibes. The best part? No Phyllis.
