Y'all already know that AA characters have to be "do-gooders" on soaps, which limits/marginalizes them as characters. I feel like writers fear giving us any material besides being "the best friend" or part of the town's Greek chorus. As a Black viewer, it annoys the sh-t out of me how one dimensional our characters have to be. Heaven forbid we do unsavory acts every blue moon to get ahead. At least they have Hilary embracing it and not being a "Mary-Sue" type character like Lily. It would be nice to see other characters of color get to have some fun being bad.

I've shouted from the rooftops how I wanted Devon to become a prick once he inherited that money from Kay.

Neil has always been a do-gooder, so I don't expect any change with him, hence why I always preferred the fiery personalities of the Barbers/Winters clans (i.e. Malcolm and Dru). Even Olivia would let the flame out every now and then and showed you she was bit messy. Now all the Winters are righteous and we have no destructive or impulsive personalities in the family.

Hilary is just as one note as the rest of them. Only thing is it's just the opposite side of the coin.

Neil = Devon = Jordan all in the same story/orbit. What is the point of that?

Meh for me too. Ashley is still just as much of an Abbott as the rest of them. Also, I don't see how it is gonna spark long affects on Abby when she's grown up as an Abbott and will remain one afterwards. Plus, this ain't new for her either. She thought Brad was her father until otherwise.

If this was B&B, it would open the door for Babby and Jabby. I was hoping Dina's return would reveal John is Ashley's bio dad. They never did DNA. Plus it's not like Dina wasn't sleeping with John - see Traci born years later. And since John didn't know, he presumably slept with Dina close enough to conception that he didn't question it.

They might as well undo it. John is not alive to provide the full dramatic effect, and most fans forget that Ashley isn't an Abbott. Might as well have them run a DNA and for Ashley to learn she is John's true daughter.

I don't get why we should be invested in Ashley's concern that Abby will discover the truth about Brent Davis. I mean, why would this girl CARE that much? It makes no sense.

Abby's digging into Dina's past doesn't make any sense, either. When has Abby shown this kind of concern about family members' pasts?

Agreed. I'm not really sure what the point to all of this is. Are they going to have Abby turn on Ashley or something and make them be adversarial or something? Which I'd rather they not. I don't get it. But the whole show is aimless and pointless at the moment so I guess it fits right in.

Exactly. They tried that with Stitch and it fell flat. I could see Ravi - 'the sage and wise-one in all Abbott matters' bringing up the DNA issue eventually 'saving the family.' Ravi, who can only connect with women close to 60+,  ends up with Dina and they go back France together to watch opera and paddle board together.

Yeah, true, they've tried it before with Stitch.

LMAO on Ravi and going back to France to watch opera and paddle board together. LMAO I'm dead.

There seems to be absolutely no payoff to revealing Ashley's paternity to anyone else who doesn't already know, including Abby.

It's been about a decade now since Y&R was able to plot out a storyline where they didn't telegraph how a story will resolve itself. There is no inherent suspense or epiphanies to be revealed. Why bother?

Nobody cares about this. They are about 25 years too late with any Ashley paternity revelation story.

Exactly. The most I could see coming from it is Billy, Traci, and Abby crying over the revelation, but they'll move on from it. There isn't any long term affects from this story. Abby might question her Abbott side for a second, but she'll get over it.

But we do get flashes that Hilary is a bit more complex such as her loyalty to Jack. We saw she was a bit more complex in her helping Juliet.

Wait... Ashley's paternity is a SL?  Huh? Ridiculous!

Does Abby know her real father is a turkey baster?
